Reviews for Ne Ne Ne
Back to MangaWhat do you get when you take a plot about an arranged marriage between a 16 year-old girl and a 37 year-old man in Feudal Japan, and throw in some supernatural elements, as well as strict rules of engagement? You get 'Ne Ne Ne', a story that somehow manages to make these elements come together in an endearing, natural way. Nothing about the age difference seems forced despite the concept sounding problematic; it's handled in a light-hearted, innocent way, as both mains are very pure. It's a short pilot, but 'Ne Ne Ne' is worth the read as it's in the process of being adaptedinto a full series. Give it a chance if you're a fan of historical fiction and/or age differences.

Ne Ne Ne is a simple, short romantic comedy that does pretty much everything right. It has a simple theme of romance between a mature man and a young girl who wants him to see her as an adult, with both of them being inexperienced and shy when it comes to love. The interactions between characters are funny, the art is cute and shows all the emotion I expect, and nothing about the age gap, feudal setting, or supernatural elements feels jarring. You might see that it's only a single volume and think it was instantly axed and had a rushed ending, but the ending builds on the relationship that forms over the course of the series and is very satisfying for a series as short as this.
Ne Ne Ne can of course be found online, and is also available physically and digitally in English if that's your thing. It shouldn't take much more than half an hour to read, and I highly recommend it.

First off, let me say that I'm so disappointed. 16 yr old with a 37 yr old? This girl is a whole minor. just plain weird and disgusting and it makes me sick. Not even a "good" story can make up for that. I can't understand how anyone would like this crap imo, and the fact that this manga especially highlights the fact that they have this specific age gap. the age gap is practically the same as Donald Trump and Melania Trump's relationship, just pointing that out here, except it's just less by 3 years. Crazy, right?. Ah, its such a shame, when thissame author wrote Uchi no Maou Kamimasen yo, too.
Nenene Manga Review By: Outosan Dated: January 06, 2020 Plot: One of the most interesting cases of a love story for me is about age gap. Well, that is the guy should be older than the girl. It's really cute to see how the guy handles things, the way they try so hard to stop themselves to do stupid things and such. This manga is about a young girl getting fixed marriage on a guy older than her. Having read it, it's such a short manga with a very common but pure relationship. The only thing that differs is the guys face which was left unknown till the endof the story. Though the times where they get embarrassed and shy with each other is really cute to read, it is really such a waste that it ends just like that.
Characters:
Oh gawd. I swear. Maybe he looks like Takane of the manga "Takane to Hana". His posture is great. He has the height, the hair and the shape of his face did tell the reader that he's really handsome. I love his reactions everytime his wife did things that will make his heart tremble. It's funny how he thinks if it is okay to do something or not. It's really amusing to see older guys that are too confused to do what needs to.
Art:
The art reminds me of Horimiya and Takane to Hana. It was drawn really great. The expressions are on point; most of the details are neat, and it was easy to read. On the side note, I really love that mochi face of the girl.
Enjoyment:
I did enjoy reading this manga and wait on scenes that will make the guy have a hard time. It's just too unbearable, it really is. But what I wait the most is the discovery of the guys face which was not been spilled until the end. Just suck. Bigtime.
Ending:
I can't accept that this is the end. Even if its not that kind of story with a really mysterious or amazing vibe, it is the type of like "everyday life." It's satisfying and cool. It feels like it'll be so much fun to read how they end up falling hard with each other even if seems like a long way to go.
I read it because I am a big fan of the author's other series called "Horimiya". This was incredibly disappointing in many ways so let's talk about it. art - 8: Probably the only thing I enjoyed a lot in this manga. I really enjoy this style because of its sweet feeling. The character design was good. Obviously, it was not exceptional due to the fact that the series was extremely short. characters - 3: What happened here? Horimiya had some of the best-written characters and now we get a 16-year old husband obsessed, no special personality trait, childish wife? And then we add a slightly pedophilichusband with supernatural abilities? Maybe the character arcs would have been better if the series went on further. It definitely seemed as if it was planned to go on because of many factors like the mask and the unfinished storyline.
(SPOILERS)
story - 3: Now what was this? The plot is basically about a 16-year old child that gets married to a 37-year-old man, because of family connections. I am aware that this is historical and this definitely happened in the past, however, these kinds of relationships should not be romanticized. While you could say: "But it is not sexual" It is clear that the only reason that Shin has not made a move on Koyuki is because her father asked him not to until she's 20. I would have ranked the story higher if it was his personal choice, but that this is the only thing holding him back (and not even fully) makes me extremely uncomfortable. I would consider Koyuki to be worse, but she is a literal child. She lives in an age where marriage and being a good wife is essential and so her character is therefore justified. It is sad to see her only mission being a good wife, but obviously, it is a personal choice. She is young, so many things she says should not be paid that much attention to. Shin however always sees her in a different light. He cares for her and often mentions that she is cute. Which is weird. I am generally tired of Mangas/Animes creating (often female) characters that act child-like and look child-like and then putting them into relationships with huge age gaps or saying that they are older than they look. This manga luckily did not sexualize such a relationship but still romanticized it. Psychologically looking at that kind of relationship cannot be healthy.
All in all, I was incredibly disappointed. I kept reading because I hoped for some kind of explanation or justification of their relationship. Maybe he's younger than he says, maybe they are not going to end up together. But nothing of that kind happened.
tl;dr: A short and sweet manga about an innocent couple that ends too early but is solid for what it is. This manga is pretty good for as far as it gets, but it gets cut off what feels way too early. It basically feels like an introduction to the two characters, just a look at their personalities and how they mesh into the relationship they share. Now this was certainly really sweet and enjoyable for the extent of it, but as that's all there is without any progress or development this is a tad disappointing. There isn't really any sort of plot either, even though it didset up various things that could easily have potential for pretty solid plot lines, such as his job involving super natural elements, his teacher, the relationship between the two families, etc. so it feels like a waste of potential. Still, even though it didn't get very far, I enjoyed what I read and thought it was worth reading, mainly because it was cute. The comedy being primarily centered around misunderstandings between the two and Koyuki being adorable in response to that, played a pretty big roll in that and worked really well. The art being pretty solid certainly helped as well, especially in regard to how Koyuki's facial expressions were amazing.
This is a really great manga. It’s one of the first mangas I read, and I really love the story and the art. It’s about an arranged marriage between a young girl and a man who is a lot older than her. This is one of my favourite age-gap romance manga. The guy is super respectful about the age gap and the girl makes it interesting for not really caring about it too much. There’s a lot of cute moments that make my heart skip a beat! The only downside is that it’s so short. I wish it continued so I could read more! But I dore-read it now and then.
“NeNeNe” is just a short cute story that doesn’t require you to think too much. All you have to do is sit back, relax and watch Koyuki in her married life with Shin as she tries to be a “good wife”. The story is pretty short but I think it’s the perfect length for it. To start, I was look forward to seeing what Shin looked like under the mask but as the story went on their daily life started interesting me more. Koyuki’s tenacity in her goal to be a good wife to Shin despite such a huge age gap between them was verymature of her.
She isn’t what most people would consider a “strong female lead” these days but I do. Being able to actually agree to marry a guy while at 16 and never having seen his face before? That’s some strength right there. Especially considering the guy is 37…yup. Pretty huge age gap right there.
A short comedy and slightly romance, manga about a marriage life between a young girl and an almost forty old man, with a special feature (a mask). They are both trying to find ways to live with each other and to pass the awkwardness between them. I liked reading it, it can be read in a few hours to pass the time. I liked how Koyuki was trying to find ways to take Shin's mask off, but also, in same time, not to push it, hoping, maybe, he would take it off. Shin had, also, moments of embarrassment in front of Yuki. Story - 8 Characters- 8

This is a super short, easy read about a new marriage between a couple with a significant age gap (20ish years). Honestly not my most favorite trope (I think small gaps are fine but a 16 and 37yr old just too icky IMO). I feel the story would've been cuter and more wholesome if they were closer in age. Listen, I get it. Historically it wasn't really too out of the norm, and I do understand the story is centered around this age gap...so if you don't like it you won't like the story...but still :p The characters are considerably different from one another because oftheir ages, and it's what drives the story forward. Female MC is very "babyish" which isn't surprising due to the time period - but made for a slightly uncomfy read (she talks in a baby voice in one of the panels) and she is constantly jealous, pouting, or whining about something.
Male MC makes a promise to her father not to make a move until she turns 20 but does not communicate this. This leads to frustration - the female lead is always wondering and stressing over the fact he won't reciprocate or initiate stuff. Though judging by their interactions in just a few days of marriage, I doubt he would stick to that promise. I also doubt she would be fine waiting 4 years.
All that said it wasn't a bad story. I think the length was fine for what it was and I liked the mystery surrounding the male MC. The art was good (same art as Horimiya). There isn't much that happens - just random things thrown in to create minimal conflict and rile up female lead. I think the story would've been so much better if she was older and they could've really ran with a similar premise. The characters have good chemistry and the reasoning behind the male lead wearing a mask all the time, youkai etc. I can't really complain though because the age gap is the driving point of focus in this story.
I give it a mixed review because I know people will enjoy this short story, and others may be completely turned off by the premise.
