Reviews for Only the Ring Finger Knows
Back to MangaOne of my favorite genres is shounen-ai, that's something I can’t deny. For me, and probably for a lot of others, this is the perfect manga. If you haven’t read a shounen-ai or yaoi manga but you want to read some, this is a good manga to start with. No sex scenes or what-so-ever, just a bit of cute shounen-ai. It suits the ’beginners’-taste very well so you can get used to the genre (not that I’m a beginner anymore ^__^). If you like shounen-ai, this is a must-read! Story: Right after I had read the synopsis I wanted to go and start reading it. NowI think back, I think I actually did do that. The story is interesting and you want to know what happens after they find out their rings pair up. Also, you want to know why Yuichi is so harsh when dealing with Wataru. And then, when you’ve started reading it, it all becomes clear in just a few chapters. The story isn’t too long, so you won’t get bored. It’s a very nice and heart-touching story.
Art: Before I started reading Only the Ring Finger Knows I had not read that many manga, so this style was pretty new to me, and it got to me. In a good way. I really like Odagiri Hotaru’s style of drawing. You won’t see too many chibi’s, but it isn’t too detailed either. But, it’s detailed enough to get hooked by it. Especially the eyes and hair of the main characters. I hope she will do some more manga, other mangaka have to watch out for her!
Character: Actually, the only characters you’ll care about are the main characters. The story focuses itself on the relationship between Yuichi and Wataru, no need for side-characters you’ll think. Hmm… you’re almost right. But there are some persons (I’m talking about two or so) who have an ini-mini-small role in the story which is necessary. Due to those two their relationship becomes stronger I think. Ah, well, you have to read that for yourself. ;D
Enjoyment: When I first started reading this manga I was very curious to how it would end. And when I finished it, I wasn’t the slightest bit annoyed. I even wanted to go and buy it, the only thing was I couldn’t. But I was determined to read it again sometime! And then, at the last Con I attended I found it in the manga section! Oh, how happy I was! Directly after I went to bed that day I started to read it for the second time, and I continued reading till 3 o’clock that night. So, I guess this manga pretty got to me! ^__^
Overall: I love this manga, and nothing can change that. I really recommend it to any single soul who likes/loves shounen-ai, and I hope people will like it as much as I do. I’ll be sure to read it for a third time someday! I was delighted by it, yes, delighted. :P
So, that was my second review. I hope it’s good enough to give people an idea of how good this manga is. If you think I messed up, please contact me with your critic. Of course critic is allowed; I can fail but I also gain something with failure!
Story: 10 This was a unique story about a high school boy-Wataru who loses a ring then he finds it on his desk a week later. In this manga, rings symbolize a relationship if on your ring finger and if it's not then it means you're single. Wataru finds out that he has the same ring as the school heartthrob-Kazuki and so, rumors start getting spread. Art: 10 Something I look at in a manga is it's art and I can say that Only The Ring Finger Knows has beautiful and enjoyable art. Character: 10 I liked both Wataru and Kazuki's character though in the end Kazuki's character's actions wereexplained more and I was surprised at how sweet Kazuki could be, not to mention cute :3
Enjoyment: 10
I really, really, enjoyed Only The Ring Finger Knows, this manga is a definite great read for all those shounen ai/yaoi fans out there.
Overall: 10
As you can tell I really loved this story and overall I think anyone would even if you aren't a fan of shounen ai/yaoi you should give it a try cuz it's a light read =) with some cute fluff too^^
Reading this manga turned out to be quite a pleasant surprise. I went into it not expecting much, but for a work of this kind, i.e. a short four-chapter long shounen ai manga, it is quite well thought out. The story's flow is good and is only about 30% fluffy. Even though it is such a short series, the characters and the plot seem to be fairly sound. I truly think that a lot of people can empathise with what's going on... and, I think that's what makes this manga such a fantastic yet simple piece. I would recommend Sono Yubi dake ga Shitteiru to anyone whois after a quick read.
