Reviews for Lock-on the Teacher!
Back to MangaSome manga are exactly what they seem to be from the very start. This is one of those manga. Sensei Lock On! Starts out a fun 4-Koma manga about a 33-year old fourth grade teacher who has a very chaste boyfriend-girlfriend relationship with her 20-year old former student. It tells the same half dozen jokes over and over again. The first time, the jokes are fun and cute. The fifth time, the jokes are starting to wear a little thin. By Chapter 30... well, the jokes have worn out their welcome. Now, that wouldn't matter much if their was character development or significant relationship building.Rest assured: there is not.
I don't want to bash this manga too much. The art is great. The characters are a lot of fun, and I was rooting for them as a couple. And the jokes do start out funny, the first few times they are told.
I just wish the manga had either progressed a bit, or expanded it's comedic repertoire.
A generous, completely inoffensive 7/10.
To begin with, I didn't expect much from this format. It isn't supposed to be deep and serious. But despite that, there should be at least some quality standards. At first, I wanna talk about the "story". Everything is solely made for one purpose: to force the drama, and seeing all the common sense being sacrificed for that is kinda unpleasant. All the characters are "accidentally" meeting each other like they're all living in one small room. Things like that are common for such format, but this manga takes it to the whole new level. Some parts of the "story" are too rushed (any of theparents meetings), some are going too slow (the whole thing about "keeping it a secret"). As a result, the whole story feels awkward and makes me feel like quit reading it.
Characters are very mediocre, can't really say much about that. What I want to say that even they were dragged into the drama forcing machine. Or should I say, that some of them were created exactly for that? I mean, it's fine, everyone does that, but what about not making it so screamingly obvious?
About the "comedy" part... It's so unfunny that I want to cry instead. Making fun of some naive male co-worker because he doesn't have a single chance is cruel. I know, there's a hidden lesson here, but making fun of it is inhuman.
In conclusion, we have forced drama, forced characters, and forced comedy. It's still cute what makes it less painful to read, but that's it.
I didn't write reviews for quite a while now, that being said whenever i encounter gold or garbage i start typing. Story 5/10 I did not expect much from 4-koma but it was cliched, boring, comedy without comedy ohh the irony....Story progression well..it's 4-koma that basically reintroduces it self every chapter and progression is well at first chapter (basically start) and at the end chapters all in between is made for filling this poor cake. Story is well mehh...If you turn off your brain it is mediocre at best if you turn on your brain ohh boy you might ask yourself who was this genius to greenlitit.
This story basically artificially creates problems and this bothers me since it is like nails on the chalkboard (meaning i turn on my brain) you may start to doubt that this author double-checked what he wrote.
Though it was boring it had those wholesome moments so 5 is adequate since there was something and failure was that bad(2nd season review will be much harsher this one is still ok in my book but 2nd season.....)
Art 6/10
Quite enjoyable but at times characters were all the same, i had difficulties to distinguish children from adults (that's bad in my book), there were a few moments where only distinguishable feature was hair color other than that i had to look up a few times to understand who was talking talking and etc.
Panel placement is well 4-koma and it's the standard, speech bubbles were easy to read.
Characters 4/10
4 is only because it's 4-koma be it a normal banga i would bash this even more.
Character lead Male and Female are moronic. Male is a puppy who worships a deity (Female lead), as for female lead is well she was probably in coma for 19 years first from 10 to 20 then from 23 to 32. There are dense people in real life yesh but well if somebody directly shows interest and you don't know it well you probably have mental problems or playing a "game" <-- being a fox. Referring to mixer. If you go to a mixer what would you think about other party always asking you questions about relationships, leading questions to approve age gap etc.? A.He(She) is in to you 'cause it's a Mixer B. Well maybe he(she) kinda took interest in me, because it's a mixer C. Well we are just chatting <-- C. Is the answer.By the way if you read to this chapter please ask yourself what normal woman would do this (considering what she is doing and in whose vicinity) and male lead is a spineless creature in this situation a smell of netorare here doncha think?
Next we have supports well they are bland and fillers and some are roadblocks.
Roadblock being male leads sister who i is a toxic person to say the least who tries to ruin brothers life to a degree basically being a brat considering she is not a teeneger.
Enjoyment 3/10
Annoying time waster with some good moments but in general 7/10 of the time bored and annoyed, constantly asking myself since chapter 15 why am I being such an M (S/M).
Overall 4/10
Seen worser and as 4-koma it's ok to waste your time but try not to binge read it else it's really annoying. Story bland and too artificial, art well fair, ok, normal, characters=gold fish intelligence as for enjoyment well if I was younger maybe i would rate it better or if I was new to manga/anime since i I'm not well i wasted my time, that's why I'm writing this to safe your time.
!Remember! read 1-2 chapters a week and if you are 10-18y old and new to mangas maybe it will be more enjoyable but for me it was boring cliche filled rubbish.
