Criminally low rated on MAL, this is one of the smoothest Shoujo Ai around and is a fun ride from start to finish. The characters are likeable and interesting, the plot is involving and drives forward throughout the character's 3 years of highschool and covers how they develop as teens entering adulthood and the struggles that come with losing friends as they grow apart. There's no love triangle drama to speak of, just a pure romance between girls confused about what they want to do in life and who they want to be. One of the greatest Shoujo Ai romances around, extremely recommended.

Ano Ko ni Kiss to Shirayuri wo starts like a shoujo ai high school version of Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san in some regards, with the essentially superhuman genius Kurosawa constantly teasing the decidedly Tsundere Shiramine. (Hermione Granger and Shiramine would probably be best pals.) But then the next volume is about a different couple. And the volume after that is about yet another couple. There's certainly hugs, and kisses, and hand holding all around, but I haven't really felt a deeper connection with any one of the characters. I feel like since about chapter 30, and the start of Kurosawa's "search for something she actuallywants to do with her life" arc, it's gotten a little more serious in tone.

So yeah, this is definitely something to pick up if you want some light, cute shoujo ai reading, but neither does it reach the same lightness as, for example, the Kase-san series, or the same level characterization and focus as Yagakimi. The main couple is developed pretty slowly, which is okay with me, but some of the other couple arcs seemed a tad rushed.

The art feels nice, though sometimes a little too flowery, and enjoyment was high throughout. So overall, a good manga, but not exceptional.

One of the best shoujo-ai mangas present out there!! This is a manga about Kurosawa Yurine (an overly talented young girl whose performance is at best no matter what she does) & Shiramine Ayaka (honest hard working girl who got frustrated when Kurosawa stole her 1ST SPOT!!) the story between them is just SO beautiful that I can't help but to think about this manga! to get it off my mind I want to share a good review so that u guys know what you're about to experience First thing - this manga does not focus entirely on our MCs! this at first gave me irritation toan extent where I wanted to drop! but then I realized what I was doing was A RUSH READING. so I want you guys to take this manga at a slow pace may be taking breaks and understanding the characters :D

Second thing- there are SOO MANY CHARACTERS!!!!! SO MANY SHOUJO-AI COUPLES!! The sugar level is soooo damn high!!!! it is confusing at first but trust me after a while you'll understand how beautifully pieced this puzzle is!!

JUST IMPECCABLE!! - when I ended this manga I realized THIS IS IMPECCABLE!! The last chapters (45-50) were such a beautiful road to heaven (I don't double mean this) and the thing I loved the most was their thought process - literally pieced and so damn realistic!

The perspective of understanding ANY relationship is unique in each one of us! this manga is not about how diff girls found that relationship but about how they understood it themselves... it is so dazzling to get to know each of their stories! which also expands the imagination of the reader- that this world is so damn big and we all are so UNIQUE... finding answers which are within ourselves is always a divine process...

Now back to our Main Characters-

Kurosawa Yurine- she was the girl who scared me at first (laughs) - the character was so superficial /fanatical that as the story progressed I was impressed by the character design and flow of her thought process!! in simple words - she is the bold character and a very interesting girl till the end...

Shiramine Ayaka- and this is the character that we can personally relate (laughs). I mean she is that one girl everyone looks up to, but her character is not that superficial! she shouts at Yurine! she wants to defeat her so badly! she hates her! well here is the question - Is that really hatred? (answer to this question took 3 years T-T)

So yeah the rating goes without a doubt 10/10 masterpiece. all the side characters did a great job supporting the story!

Artwork- 9/10

Story- 9/10

Enjoyment- 10/10

such a lovely manga <3 hope u like it ^_^

It is impressive that a manga with such an interesting artstyle and such a high score on this site can end up feeling incredibly boring, inconsequential, superficial, and melodramatic. This manga encompasses many of the worst tropes that we usually see in romance Shoujo manga. So, to summarize, this story goes around the life of several students at this upper-class academy and their romantic lives among them. It maintains a consistent light-hearted tone throughout each arc, usually consisting of a repeating formula: two characters meet each other, one falls in love while the other is hesitant, there is some petty conflict involved, they resolve the conflict, and then they kiss and are happy forever. It is pretty much the formula for generic happy romance stories; the kind someone would write when they don't have anything relevant to say.

Because of the fact that the author sticks to the same trope, most character interactions feel hollow; just streams of moeness aimed at the sensibilities of lonely otakus who don't get tired of drawn girls blushing for 50 chapters. The love chemistry is not fleshed out beyond a character blushing or having a excrutiatingly long backstory with her partner (say, being a childhood friend or an aunt); as a result, the personalities feel empty. But the even worse part might be the conflicts, which due to their pettiness can hardly come off as anything but ridiculous. A girl is mad because her crush didn't remember her from 10 YEARS AGO. Another one is mad because her crush (which is also her aunt, yikes) quit playing piano due to work WHEN DUH, THAT'S SOMETHING ADULTS DO.

Not a single one of the conflicts touches the personal; the gritty, the essential in a relationship. They are all like cheap fables; like children stories you tell to 11 year old kids who want to hear the "and they were happy ever after" part repeated over and over again ad nauseam. That, combined with the pretentious storytelling that tries to convey the complex romantic implications of, uh, realizing being good at everything doesn't give you a right to be an asshole —nothing is more annoying than a Mary Sue that is also self-centered like Kurosawa— with the most sappy and cheesy prose, makes this story a collection of boredom and mediocrity.

This was quite an incredible ride. Ano ko ni Kiss to Shirayuri wo is a shoujo ai / yuri manga that explores the relationships and feelings of the girls at the all-girls Seiran Academy. It mostly centers around two protagonists, Shiramine Ayaka and Kurosawa Yurine - the latter who is a transfer student that shakes Ayaka's self-esteem after stealing her number one spot in the academic rankings as soon as they entered high school. It's your typical cute and fluffy rival to lovers to trope except it's (finally) yuri. Eventually, the manga also started to explore the relationships of the people around our two protagonists, albeit it was a bit messy at the start. At some point, one chapter after another became about completely different couples and we only get glimpses of Shiramine or Kurosawa. However, Canno was eventually able to find the right footing in exploring the stories of these couples in parallel to the growth of both protagonists.

I found myself growing fond of these characters and I appreciate how the author took the time to explore them - differentiating the relationships of each one from the other, which is a nice touch instead of getting that simple "...and they fall in love!' plot point. In Shirayuri, Canno nods to the fact that the dynamics in each relationship aren't always as simple as just falling in love - even bringing across the point that sometimes some of us love more than one person. I think it's nice that they went deeper with this, it's certainly refereshing that the feelings of these characters were taken seriously instead of just being there because it's "cute" or framed as a "phase" which yuri mangas have been guilty of doing.

While I wouldn't say that Canno was able to properly interlaced these stories cohesively, I think they were able to create quite a strong ensemble that I just grew to love and it's great that the main story closed nicely while also giving a send off to the other couples.

9/10 - it has flaws in terms of cohesiveness but it's definitely worth reading and great addition to anyone's shoujo ai / yuri collection (which is increasingly becoming more interesting these days!).

If there is one spot where Ano Ko ni Kiss to Shirayuri wo truly shines, it's with the characters. There are very few high school romances where the characters are as developed as this, especially in the shoujo ai/yuri genre. Of course there are common tropes, and characters types, but it isn't so upfront, and it is refreshing. The story revolves around the two main characters (Shiramine Ayaka and Kurosawa Yurine), where Shiramine was always number 1 at her previous school, until Kurosawa shows up and beats her (and other classmates) in every discipline, without trying. Kurosawa sounds like a pretty standard iamverysmart character, but it'snot so surface level as others in the high school romance space usually go. The story does not only involve our two protagonists, in fact, there's probably only 15 chapters where they are the main focus, the other 35 (in the main story) and 9 (in the side stories) chapters are where Ano Ko ni Kiss to Shirayuri wo truly stands out.

All of the side characters are fleshed out, with unique personalities, traits, problems, and relationships, and none of them seem forced. The story progresses through 2 years at Seiran Academy, with all of the characters interacting with each other and progressing the story for all characters. All different kinds of love and friendships are portrayed in this story, and it never gets dull, boring, or drawn out. Each couple/group gets a handful of chapters from introduction to resolution, and although I would have liked to see some more development and involvement in some, I was happy that it didn't fall into then the usual route of 100 chapters with no development.

The art is also fantastic, it's exactly what I wanted for this kind of story, and I don't know if I've ever seen so many characters blushing and kissing in as few chapters.

If you like shoujo ai and yuri, this is an absolute masterpiece. If you like high school romance (regardless of demographic), and enjoy resolution, problem solving, communication, blushing, cute girls and kissing, give it a shot.

Like an all-you-can eat buffet of yuri, Ano Ko ni Kiss to Shirayuri wo's greatest strength is also its weakness, as its huge cast of charming characters and wide variety of relationships don't provide enough space for more than one of its storylines to stretch its legs. Canno's art is always cute and her moment-to-moment writing is effective. Initially the characters can be difficult to keep track of as the narrative jumps from pairing to pairing - you'll have to pay close attention to each girl's specific combination of hairstyle and hair accessory to keep them straight (so to speak). But the storylines are so denselywoven together that once you get the hang of the cast you'll be able to find delightful little details and connections littered throughout the manga.

The main pairing, between two academic rivals at the top of their class, is one of the better ones, probably because it's actually given the time and pages it needs to chart each girl's emotional development. It showcases Canno's main strength in writing, which is giving her characters very distinct personalities with clear strengths and flaws. There are no bland self-insert characters in AnoKiss, and each character's feelings are taken seriously. Most of the relationships in the manga are shown to be growing and evolving as the series progresses and the characters near adulthood.

My personal favourite stories include the vicious love triangle that turns into a happy polyamorous trio, and the girl who has to figure out why her new underclassman seems to secretly despise her. I was less interested in the track team duo, and didn't particularly care for the incest-y one. There's also a story featuring two rivals for the school council elections that feels a little bit like a repeat of the main pairing.

Overall I'd recommend this for fans of the genre. In particular, if you're just getting into yuri manga I'd recommend it as a way to find out what dynamics you're most interested in, since it covers a lot of different archetypes.

Ano Ko ni Kiss to Shirayuri wo is a story that revolves around the couple Shiramine and kurosawa and a shit load of other couples. The fact about this manga is that each volume or say each story arc focuses on a different couple but at the same time relate them somehow or the other to the main couple in someways. There are story arc that only focuses on the other couples too without the main couples not showing up at all throughout the arc. This manga has every story from a bittersweet to ultra sweet romance and even love triangles for a person to read. Story: 7/10The story in general is good. But you can make a individual assessment of each arc as i said before each arc focuses on a new couple or it may focus on a couple already shipped and add to their incomplete story. All in all if you like shoujo ai you may like the stories surrounding the manga arcs.

Art 9/10

The art is something i loved a lot and at times stands out beautifully to depict some scenes. They help in giving some scenes that extra punch and kudos to the person who made the art as its detailed but at the same time not overwhelming.

Character 8/10

There are some characters that are really well fleshed out in this.Especially the main couple and another one (moe n mizuki <3 ). You do get to know the characters well and they are well written and portrayed.

Overall 7/10

The manga does have some flaws here and there but at the same time a good read as well. The coupes are only girls and a i havent even seen a guy actually even show up in this one...XD

If you like bittersweet manga with the added tag of shoujo ai then you would surely like this.

This manga was... quite the ride, to say the least. Ano Ko ni Kiss to Shirayuri wo is a story about discovering self identities, straying away from escapism, and maturing. However, that description doesn't fit all of the couples within this series. This series has around 6+ other perspectives that get just as much attention as the lead's over the course of 50 chapters. Each and every couple has their own circumstances, and their own battles to deal with. Trying to portray the lives of all these couples whilst having main leads as well is no easy feat, which is why I respect the mangaka whoattempted this.

The series generally isn't bad however, execution is an issue. Once again, trying to approach the Yuri scene with a work like this proves to be INCREDIBLY difficult. It's something that would require the perfect amount of screen time for each couple, the perfect amount of development for each couple, etc.

And for what it's worth, I think that the mangaka did a decent enough job to keep the reader engaged for the first 20+ chapters. After that, it does get quite tedious trying to remember all these characters and how they're different from the last.

As a result of having way more developed side characters than usual, the world genuinely feels lively and I love that. You'll often see characters we were just observing a chapter or two ago engaging in the background, or in hallways, and it makes the school and the world feel much more expansive even when we're following completely different characters.

Due to the sheer amount of side characters, this series also caters to a much wider demographic than usual: 6+ couples, all with different circumstances, personalities, ideologies, there's surely something in here that the average Yuri fan will enjoy to some extent.

Although the couples certainly are the highlight of this manga, without a doubt it can be tedious switching between couples back and forth. Imagine you're watching an anime, and halfway through you're hit with a filler arc right before things got good. That's how it feels shifting between all these different perspectives, and for me, that took some of the enjoyment out. Having to read another 5 or so chapters just to get back to the couple you enjoy, just to see them for 2 chapters, then repeat, it's not the greatest experience.

The perspectives are a double - edged sword, and a type of Yuri series like this will have to be polished perfectly if it wants to ground it's place as a readable series.

7/10, it's good and it's a new take on the Yuri scene. What more could you ask for?

This is something that I personally would adore seeing more in the Yuri scene. With some optimization and fixes to this and that, this type of Yuri series could really go far and show us something that'll blow us away. After reading this, I have high respects to the mangaka who crafted this. Since we rarely get series of this stature, there's not much material or reference to work with to improve the series. A lot of this was most likely innovative, and the fact that it holds well despite being one of the first to make a series like this is incredible.

Some of you will love this style and some of you won't. I think you'll all mutually appreciate the creativity of this series, though.

Ano Ko ni Kiss to Shirayuri wo is one of those shoujo-ai manga you don't really keep up with the updates nor get really into it. Its genre mostly is based upon comedy so this manga is very light-hearted. For those trying to look for an intense yuri/shoujo-ai manga checking out yagakimi or citrus would be a better choice. Story : This manga doesn't solely focus on the main couple but explores different characters love life set in the same universe thus the main story shifts around a lot never focusing on any particular characters but in the end still coming back to themains. The recent chapters starts approaching and exploring more parts of the main characters and if i may say so bringing in the serious-ness of the manga. There's no certain attachment for readers towards the characters. Yet, the main story can be quite captivating as we follow Kurosawa's journey of 'self-discovery' with the help of the love interest Shiramine Ayaka. The story line also moves at a questionably slow rate. I rate this 7/10

Art : As far as art goes i would say this is quite good. The art style is unique and the expressions of the characters are fun to read. There is nothing much to say about the art as i find it very enjoyable and comfortable. I rate this 8/10

Character : In terms of characters we have a wide variety to choose from. There are multiple couples in this manga whose story you will eventually come across but unlike the main characters they do not have much character development. As per say, the recent chapters focuses more on the main characters and we see changes in their personality. The character development of this story mainly focuses on developing the main and i see no reference whereby the side characters will receive any in the future. I rate 7/10

Enjoyment : I always have a thing for light-hearted manga's so i really enjoyed this. If you're looking for a quick and simple fun-to-read manga this is one of the best out there. There is no specific in depth plot line that feels intense. There's plenty of comedy with a slight hinge of heart-wrenching but mostly filled with enjoyable interactions and blushing between both main and side characters.

Overall : I enjoyed it a lot. However this isn't a must-read shoujo-ai manga for fans out there. The plot is arranged on purpose to enhance the messy-ness of the manga as they move from characters to characters but never stray from the main characters. Its something to pick up only when you're absolutely bored but in its defense i absolutely love this manga.

This manga is not overrated nor is it underrated, its not on the highest must-read shoujo-ai list for a reason. It's right where its suppose to be. If you like it you like it, its not like one of those manga's where the further you progress the more entrance you will be by it. Its not one of those immersive manga's but nevertheless its a good manga that's worth a shot ;)

My main enjoyment for this series is the main couples. The other couples can be good or meh. I hope the last volume is full of Shiramine and Kurosawa. After re-reading it more carefully, I really enjoyed the story between the main couple. And now I'll try to type more to actual be able to post this because this site needs that. I first went to this manga so I could look for Yuri fanservice. So I pretty much just skipped dialogue mostly. And then I stopped reading about a few chapters in. And 2nd time reading I read it, although somewhat carelessly. I enjoyed it, althoughI skipped some couples if I find it boring. 3rd time reading, I read the couples I liked and the main couple more carefully and it was amazing.

Great manga. Though, it does not start off strong. I even thought "this mangaka can't draw faces" at first. However, everything only steadily improves as it progresses. The art is absolutely stunning towards the end, and the story concluded fairly well. There's sweetness enough for lifetime in this manga. If I did have to note one thing, there is almost too many characters in this manga. I even lost track of who was who at one point. This could've potentially been a disaster but I think the author just barely managed to avoid that. Looking for a simple, fun manga that will make you feel goodwith no hurry to reach its conclusion? Give this a try.

Well thanks a lot Secret Santa from Animeplanet for giving me this final manga to end the gift giving and lemme tell ya, it is pretty much a super adorable GL manga. I really liked our main couple like I thought Yurine and Ayaka were pretty hilarious with how they kept bickering and bantering with each other. Now I will say for this GL, there are plenty of characters that you just couldn't keep up with every single character because the author just went full ham in adding more characters without context tbh. I do wish they concentrated on just three couples and leave itat that but from reading this manga, I felt like they added like 10 couples to say the least lol!

Now it's not the best GL out there but if you like to get your heart strings pulled by cute gay content, this is definitely one for y'all to check out!
