Reviews for New Game!
Back to MangaWho doesn't love manga? who doesn't love video games? But what about a manga about video games? New game is a short manga that tells the daily life of a high school graduate student in the video game industry. In charge of character modeling, Aoba Suzukaze joins her first ever job into an all women company that makes video games. Even though it's a slice of life manga and lacks a main plot, it contains lots of information regarding the different aspects of a video game creation, from the different job positions, to the many countless responsibilities they are in charge of, it covers the entire processcreation including game distribution via conventions.
The character designs is what is so good about this manga, with very cute girls, mannerisms, and facial expressions. Each character whilst cute, has it's wide selection of many different personalities that usually reside in this kind of moe mangas. Each complement each other to create a warm and cozy environment every reader would love to be in.
It is very engaging to learn about the video game industry whilst following Suzukaze in her new and crazy endeavour through adulthood. Many people can relate to the hardships in her everyday life whilst learning something new, and the occurrences with her new co-workers and friends will make this manga very entertaining for those looking for something "New".
Do you like videogames? These girls sure as hell do! Welcome to New Game, a 4-koma where you will follow the lovable Aoba Suzukaze in her adventures in the videogame industry. New Game does a great job in providing scenes typical of the cute girls genre while keeping a plot with development and some more serious moments, always keeping a lighthearted tone. It never gets stale because things are always in motion, and you can see the characters working hard to achieve their objectives while having fun moments and getting closer to the others. This manga features a very likeable cast of characters with their ways tobe and particular objectives, the dynamics between them are well done and it makes getting attached to them very easy.
The art style of this manga is fantastic in my opinion, the characters are very visually appealing and the reactions are well done as well.
Overall New Game is a fun series that knows what it wants to do and executes it nicely, I really recommend this manga if you enjoy cute girls series or you like videogames, something that will make you relate to the characters and what they do.
An adorable story following a cast of women and their passion for video games and respecting and working together in the workplace This manga has the usual little bit of fanservice (which is more than fine because for once the cast are all adults for once) and cute scenes between the cast, but it is more than what it looks like at first glance. New Game touches on the difficulties and significance of compliance, sacrifices, independence, teamwork, competitiveness, strong will, inspiration, and encouragement in a creative workplace. I really like how it supports being competitive in a creative industry in a positive manner by encouraging each otherinstead of knocking one another down. To put it simply, it's a representation of what the creative industry should be like and the power that the good old, indomitable human spirit truly has towards your passions.
Overall, a lovely, relaxing read created by a passionate creator, that I can recommend to all who are interested. Obviously, it is an iyashikei, so don't expect anything unexpected, but if you think you'll enjoy it based on the cover, you most definitely will.
I'm going to be honest, I've dropped this before. I only finished it after needing a palate cleanser from the last, way more dramatic manga I read. Story: 6/10 There's kind of a story? It more about Aoba's career progress really. There are some mini-arcs though. Not anything bad, but nothing particularly good either, just what's needed to have progression in Aoba's character. It's not really a problem of course, you aren't reading this for the riveting plot, are you? The author always makes sure to keep things in motion to prevent it becoming to static. For example, new characters are introduced every so often and thecircumstances surrounding the game development change as well. All this makes sure it keeps the manga fresh instead of staying in status quo hell.
Art: 6/10
Pretty good, 4koma but there's good characters design (you'd hope so in a manga like this) and everyone looks distinctive.
Characters: 7/10
Pretty endearing characters. There are many of them but they're introduced over a while so it's not confusing. They all have distinct personalities. Their interactions are the core of this and they're quite cute. The character dynamics are great and everyone gets a chance to shine or hang out in different combinations. They all have goals that they work towards so they never become boring and it make them feel more real.
Overall: 6/10
Personally I didn't find this manga very funny but I think the relaxing atmosphere of the characters just hanging out (and working) is great. I'm giving this a very conditional recommendation here. I said before that I dropped it, maybe if you can enjoy pure CGDCT with a dash of drama or read a little of this at a time just to relax then this might be for you.
Good
• All the characters actually have goals, something where being in a corporate setting helps this manga
Bad
• A fair bit of fan-service. It's frontloaded mostly so it peters out by the end but there's still some
• A lot of yuri-bait
• There's a sort of romance between two characters that never goes anywhere, the one relationship that is actually mentioned to be romantic (one-sidedly anyway)
A phenomenal story about working towards your dreams, overcoming obstacles, achieving your dreams, then helping others do the same thing. The character development in this is excellent; starting from such a small beginning, to ending; much larger, and greater of an impact. This is what people imagine working towards your dreams would be like. The story itself is able to teach you lessons, while filling you with some funny, & wholesome moments... it's the ideal job experience that anyone would want. It's very unique in many regards, this manga will introduce things that wouldn't be expected from it's description. Worth the read, would recommend it to anyone.
