Reviews for Saru Lock
Back to Mangawhy someone hasn't written a review for this manga is beyond me.cause this is one great manga , that really really rocks. First off, i have to warn you that this is marked as a Action, Comedy, Drama, Ecchi, Mystery, Seinen and it holds back no punches.you have been warned . There is quite a bit of T&A, adult situations and violence as well. Not the worst out there mind you , but might not suit everyones tastes. That said , the story is rock solid , thecomedy is hilarious and action is honestly second to none. The characters are unique and well developed and the heroes and villains each play their part to perfection.
Saru and Ritsuko are one of the most unique and interesting parings ,your ever going to see and the proof that love is indeed strange some times.
Saru lock From what i've read so far is a pretty cool little series. For me it encaptulates the feeling of early 2000s Urban Japan coolness, basically like the stuff from tokyo drift. TLDR: this manga contains a lot of pervy scenes, sexual assults, drug use, and everything in between. You'll know the vibe from chapter one, decide if it's for you or not. For a series to work in my mind it has to build from the ground up mainly by strong characters. the second layer is a strong world, plot, themes, etc2. I'm happy to say that it definitely penetrate the first layer and gointo the second layer. The characters are cool, what i consider to be the 4 main Saru, Ritsuko, Yamamoto, and Saito are written to be simple but with a clear distinction and very fun different personality in each of them. They are not that deep but they don't need to be for the purposes of the story.
Saru lock follows the adventure of highschool student Sarumaru Yataro a lock smith through his journey from a humble locksmith employee to a player in the tokyo criminal underworld. This series definitely has it's main focus on comedy. For me it's hillarious as hell, probably on of the funniest manga i've ever read. But also at the same time it uses a lot of pervy humor to get laughs, this series is super ecchi ya'll like super super ecchi. What's fun about this manga is seeing the antics that Saru always got himself into. His Dumbness and at the same time his skill fullness and his fearless sacrificing attitude is a joy to watch unfold as the series goes on.
One other strong points that i can give to this manga is it's artstyle and character design. I don't know if it's biased or not but the period that depicted is my favorite period in japanese history. The fashion are immaculate, the music scene (hip hop, j rock) are fire, the rebellious attitude was a fun time to be hold. This manga wears it's influence on it's sleeve, it created a lot of great fashion from the characters, great scene of the night life and gang life at the time, also the attitude and the way this people speak feels effortlessly cool but crude( the best i can elaborate is like watching a tarantino movie although it's not one on one ). Also ritsuko best girl
For the negative i think it's action sequence a lot of the time could need some work. There is a chase scene in the latest chapter that i read which is very exciting for the most part but it's ruined because of the sequencing and panelling imo. I think it could also benefit from toning down a little bit some of the rapey rapey scenes / attitude that happens especially among the good guys a little bit. other than that i think it's a solid good time manga. It has a pretty solid story, colorfull cast of characters, dope art and world, and golden comedy.
7/10
