Reviews for Why not be my dog
Back to MangaA silly mix of supernatural battles and ecchi romantic comedy. Young woman works for a "cleaning" office that specializes in taking care of evil spirits. She has a huge crush on her handsome but happy-go-lucky boss. But as part of her job, she must let him kiss her, at which point she becomes temporarily possessed by a powerful dog spirit. The story is fun and lighthearted. The action and romance are interwoven well, it's well paced, and the ending is pretty satisfying. The art is quite good and consistent throughout. The characters are really good, although I wish that there hadbeen more time spent on developing them. The side characters all seem interesting, but we don't really get to know any of them very well. One of the others has a crush on the heroine, which serves as a useful plot device, but his like for her sort of comes and goes with little explanation. We get glimpses of the backstories of the mains, but I would have liked to see them rounded out a bit more.
Still, it's a fun manga that mixes action, romance, and silliness together in a nice little package.
This was a very enjoyable read, and was pretty satisfied when I finished reading all the chapters. The biggest highlights of the manga would have to be the art and the action. I love how expressive the characters are and how detailed the spirits/ supernatural beings are. The action was tons of fun, especially when seeing how each character fights. The story(?) isn't anything spectacular, but enough to make me want to keep reading. I put a question mark since each chapter would have different situations, some would be enjoyable or not. Such as a short love triangle chapter that seemed pretty unnecessary to me andfelt like a waste of a chapter since it didn't seem like anything has changed. Even the resolve of the love triangle was kinda confusing since the characters (female protagonist and her co-worker) don't really talk it out yet it was solved pretty fast.
The one problem I had, it's the reason why I gave it a 7, and it's the characters themselves. There's so many of them yet we get to know like 4 of them. Tho even their developement was pretty meh. I found them to be tons of fun, but it's such a shame how most, at least the main cast, don't at least get their own chapter so we can get to know them better. By the time I was done, I would remember only a few. Another thing that bothered me is how quick the romance is. Not just the main couple but the other couples or possible couples. Some don't even have good or proper chemistry to make me really care about whether or not they'll be together.
Overall, this was still enjoyable. If you want a quick read that's filled with action, supernatural elements, and silly moments, then I recommend this.
This is a manga that doesn't have much of an overarching plot, but rather is concerned with the development of the relationship between Kazura and Inukai which occurs in a very interesting and amusing way due to the back drop of occurring as they fight various spirits. I really enjoyed the relationship between the two because it had a pretty unique chemistry to it due to their very fitting personalities and was pretty front and center with what felt like steady development throughout. The backdrop to that, by which I mean the spirit hunting, was decent. The fights were hit and miss. Rather than involving power levels, training, and such, the battles usually involved learningabout the spirits and fighting using some sort of trick. Some of these were pretty cool, but some felt a bit weak, in that they were a bit too quick. In terms of side characters, there wasn't much development at all, which is fine in terms of focusing on the main couple, however this was also the case in combat, where for the most part battles were also largely resolved simply in the end with Kazura and Inukai using Bentengou, which felt like it got a bit repetitive. But in the end, I really didn't mind those flaws much at all because it did such a good job with the main couple. The finale was quite excellent, with a really strong climax that hits some very strong emotional beats while finally pushing the main couple past a wall they previously weren't able to cross, followed by an epilogue that shows the progress that occurs after the climax very well, while also being tremendously true to the series. The comedy throughout was also good, especially in that a lot of it fit in with the main relationship. In terms of art there were some really good shots, but overall the art was just decent.
tl;dr: A manga with an amusing relationship as its core and an interesting premise as the backdrop.
I love this manga because it has everything I like. The action and the chemistry between the two main characters are overall wonderful. 24 chapters may seem a lot to take in but it is worth it. Each chapter is a fun adventure and you see how each of the characters interact with each other. I've read this manga multiple times and I'll notice things that I didn't before. Even though this manga is short, I believe that it would be a great anime. The story had a nice flow to it and it didn't seem rushed which I really liked. If you like romance/action/comedythis is a great read.
