Reviews for Kase-san and...
Back to Manga☆ This is a spoiler-free review ☆ A super pleasant read! Asagao to Kase-san is an excellent blend of conflict on romance, school, and expectations. Story [7] The story consists of Yamada, a shy, hesitant girl, confused with her emotions towards Kase, a "boyish" girl and star of the track team. It's more or less your standard love story, with misunderstandings and both characters just trying to see where they are in the relationship. Art [8] The art is nothing spectacular, but also does not disappoint. It does justice to each character, and you can really get a feel for what the manga is about from the soft linesand delicate features.
Character [7]
The characters themselves are somewhat standard, whether you're looking at it from a heterosexual or homosexual romance viewpoint.
You have the more dominant, experienced partner (Kase), and the innocent, "younger" partner (Yamada). While nothing gets too explicitly sexual, there are scenes where you can really see this dynamic come into play. Despite the yuri stereotypes, the mangaka does do a great job of having both girls still come into conflict with their relationship, and develop over time, leaving a bit of their overbearing personality traits behind to become better for one another.
Enjoyment [9], Overall [8]
Asagao to Kase-san is simply a cute, endearing read. I can not wait to see how everything goes once the entire series ends. There are sequel mangas after this, so if you're interested in pursuing the series, I do recommend those as well!
WARNINGS: Asagao to Kase-san does have mildly sexually suggestive scenes.
Just to put a short word in ~ IDK exactly whats going on, but it doesn't stop at 5 chapters and it has more than one volume. Its kinda sad tho because the story is still going on and while they did make good progress when you get to the latest chapter you just want to read more but there is already little enough as is. The story is decently paced and cute with the short read that it currently is but be warned it has no real "end". If readers are interested in yuri/shoujo ai and have never read Poor Poor Lips then I recommendyou read that one :P
Very cute story about two very different girls developing a relationshio As of 5/21/17 a new manga called yamada to kase san has started as a sequel with them both in college Yamada may be shy and rather clumsy, but the flower gardens at her school have always brought her happiness. Suddenly, a different sort of beauty catches her eye—the vivacious track star, Kase-san. Although the two girls don't seem to have much in common, they soon start a romance where each must learn an important lesson in tending their budding relationship. Can the two girls, so different from each other, learn how to maketheir first love blossom?
I'm pretty confused, I just got done reading this pretty great Shoujo Ai and it's definitely more than five chapters, there was 11. I thoroughly enjoyed this manga, it was light hearted and very romantic, definitely worth the read if you like Yuri/Shoujo Ai/Slice of Life. For me, I give it a solid 8/10 I wish there was a bit more chapters, I would have loved to know what happened during their trip to Okinawa, after the beach portion, kind of wish that whole part was a bit longer, but one can only wish, right? Other than that, a very good read, definitely check it out ifyou're into the whole Yuri/Shoujo Ai stuff ;-; This is, by far, my most preferred genre, so people may think otherwise and that doesn't bother me.
Again, pretty confused as to why MAL has it listed as five chapters, hopefully it gets edited soon.
Tasty yuri self-indulgence manga. I would eat this manga every breakfast if it was bread. However, this manga contains quite a lot of unnecessary drama that would've been easily avoided if the characters simply communicated to one another. The main characters are high school aged girls so it isn't a surprise that they experience troubles such as the consequences of keeping their worries to themselves. I think the story does get better once the girls age but it does feel a little sad when they get out of high school... Aside from the drama, the story in itself is wholesome and fluffy and I lovethe relationship between Kase and Yamada.
Each chapter of the manga makes you wish for more and I'm grateful I managed to encounter this manga at an age where I felt uncertain feelings towards masc girls.
Thank you author!!
(LAZAROTH REVIEW - NO SPOILERS - RAPID REVIEW) The "Kase-San" series is a great Yuri manga about two girls who's love blooms like the flowers Yamada-San plants, leaving your heart racing as fast as Kase-San runs on the track. At first, I thought this manga would be a "bus stop manga" (see my other reviews), but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it wasn't. No, this is a serious manga with a flowing narrative filled to the brim with wonderful and wholesome romance. Great Yuri manga are a rare find, but I really enjoyed my time with the first manga of this couple, and I'm lookingforward to reading the sequel series. Chapters are usually long, around 25-35 pages, but some even go up to 70! But the length balances out since this manga only has around 25 chapters. Still, this manga has superb pacing, not a moment feels wasted. The very small cast of characters are very likeable, and offer an novel experience as the main character, Yamada, is in the Greenery club, so her love of flora is palpable and quite unique to see. I found it interesting that most of the male characters are faceless, as this is an manga entirely focused on females.
The art is also great along with the character designs, and I really digged the style of the artist. An great read overall.
I recommend this manga, particularly for Yuri lovers! There's a direct sequel manga, be sure to check it out!

I didn't originally plan on making a review, cause I rarely do, but reading through the other ones made me want to. This story is sorta short, being only 25 chapters, the pacing makes up for it though. (There aren't any explicit spoilers, by the way) Kase-san is one of the two best romance genre stories I have ever read. I'll skip the part where I summarize what the basic story is about, and instead go to the reason I wrote a review. Kase-san is a rare encounter for me when it comes to romance manga, for one very special reason. This story, their interactions with eachother, all of it feelsreasonable, I could be fooled if someone told me it was a true story.
The romance and love feels like it tries to actually make a middle ground between cuteness and realism, to me.
Even with the chapter count of it, it still takes itself slow, it doesn't rush anything other than the very short time skips rarely.
Yes it's very cute, the sweet gardening comittee president noticing and slowly falling in love with the popular track team star from afar.
Even the best friend character, Mikawachi, is always nice to see when she appears, she's not obnoxious or anything bad, but actually feels like the best friend of Yamada. They've both been friends since the start of the school, and they get along well.
I'll stop rambling and get to the actual point though..
The whole story takes place across one and a half year, a very happy school year where they both noticed eachother, met up and became inseperable. (Until you get to the sequel manga)
There is more than just the happy moments though, which is what surprised me when I read reviews for it.
This manga is very emotional, or I am very emotional, cause a LOT of the story content was somber or just pretty sad, pretty much tear shedding.
It is not only happy, but also full of the anxiety you could feel, which I appreciate.
I think it accurately portrays realistic problems that some people can face in a relationship.
I'm not talking about the dumb anime trope where they make weird misunderstandings constantly, but I'm talking about things like not being open enough to eachother. Bottling up bad feelings, and not communicating so you can both help eachother in making the relationship better. That is among the many problems I'm talking about. Of course, there is one certain problem that the manga puts the most focus on, and it is also the climax of the story, but I won't even explicitly say what it is, cause it is such an obvious thing if you think about it for a minute (It could also be a spoiler, actually).
Essentially, before I write too much, I want to say that this manga is great if you're like me.
I like romance stories that take place in a real world setting, during modern times, and the whole thing is actually leaning toward realism instead of just entertainment or badly written relationships.
So, that is why I made this review, so I can highly recommend this to anyone that also likes more realistic feeling romance manga.
It's nothing bad, just disappointed that all the chapters weren't translated or can't be found. The plot is basic, a athletic girl with a nice body falls in love with a girl who likes to garden. Yeah, it's a basic love plot, but it paces up good in the long run and I recommend everyone to read this atleast once. Story (7.8): Short, sweet and simple. No fooling around, and that's what I like about in a good Yuri, but it could've been a 9 if I got or anyone in fact got to see how it ended. Characters (8.0): The characters are simple andsweet, and there seems to be a main focus on the two anyways. No love triangles in the way and no bad things are happening that'll probably hinder the plot. Everything is find and dandy, again something I like to have in a romance manga, and especially in a Yuri, which is something rare.
Art (8.5): The art isn't the best, but it's really unique and gives out a flesh and cute look for the two main girls in the story.
Enjoyment (8.2): Probably like everyone else, I was hoping to read more of this wonderful Yuri, but I got so lost when it came to the end. Like I wanted to see their future together, but no... you have to get a hand of the last few chapters yourself just to find the ending of this really good Yuri.
Overall (8.2): I would love to recommend this Yuri to everyone honestly, but the ending isn't there nor does anyone care to translate it. I've tried to read the raw version of this because there's more raw chapters than there is translated sadly..., and it does look good, but it's no use trying to read something you can't read. So I recommend people to read something like "Girlfriends", "Poor Poor Lips", or "Hanjuku Joshi" (If you want to read something spicy). They're good reads, and hope everyone that's reading this enjoys it like I did, but get ready to be disappointed because you won't see the ending.
Kase-san is awesome! If I had to describe it in one word : wholesome. It's a simple and cute story. There isn't drama or weird things in it, it is just a normal and sane love story between two girls. And that's actually a good point, I'm so sick of weird yuri with drama, and abusive relationships... Even if it simple, it is well written and drawn. The characters are well developped and the artstyle is pretty and expressive. I liked that there relationship feels more "natural" than in most shoujo-ai, they get together quickly and the characters aren't ashamed of their relationship. There are some hot scenes but it'snot oversexualised or too explicit.
In conclusion, Kase-san & is a masterpiece, and the best yuri I've read so far.
Do you ever get that feeling of liking someone and you don't know why? Like you wish you could unlike them cause it feels impossible and it would take a miracle for them to even notice or feel the same way about you? I mean, you probably did but for Yamada, it's more difficult...because she likes a girl. I like how realistic her feelings are for a highschooler. This manga was made to be relatable to highschoolers or girls who have girl-crushes but refuse to acknowledge it because they're shy or they feel hopeless. major spoiler ahead. When they started dating, I noticed some REALinsecurities about their relationship, especially on Yamada's part. Who doesn't get insecure over their gf's ex? Who doesn't feel left out because you're different? Who doesn't feel clumsy and slow?
It tackled a real insecurity issue with pasts that gets resolved later. I think that was the highlight of the manga.
Sure, the character substance feels a little bit low but I think that's because the author wants to deliver a real-life couple that isn't too extravagant. Literally just like a real-life couple. Real life couples don't break bones for each other. They make it in the world together.
Anyway, the review isn't that long cause I just wanted to be fair to this manga. It deserves the love it gets and I understand the people who don't like it because of the lack of character substance. Honestly, thats what I usually look for in manga, substance but for this one? I guess it's fine. I'll let the lesbians slide this time !
Day 8/30 of the Yurithon: This was another tiring day for me. Work, university and a whole bunch of other shit; "Kase-san" was the light at the end of the tunnel for me. This manga easily takes the cake for the best art direction I've seen so far in all of the yuri I've read. The style is just so clean and expresses every characters' emotions well. And don't get me started on the kissing; they had me getting more cream than the Wu-Tang Clan. Just like with "SQ: Begin W/Your Name!", this manga's lack of complexity really helped streamline the story and it never beataround the bush, almost to a fault. Sometimes, chunks of time are just skipped. I know that I said before that I liked my yuri like Usain Bolt, but Usain Bolt wasn't able to teleport. Regardless, I'd rather have a yuri be too fast, than a yuri be too slow, and "Kase-san's" pace just hit the spot for me. Admittedly, the characters aren't necessarily original; the shy-and-quiet-person-goes-out-with-popular-and-outgoing-person plot isn't exactly winning any Oscars anytime soon, but that's okay. Kase and Yamada were a great couple, and their characters were also competently written and just plain, dumb fun to enjoy reading. I think I'm gonna' read the sequel series after I'm done with the Yurithon. Some people like chocolate ice cream, some people like mint ice cream, and some people like rum-and-raisin ice cream (if you do, seek help). But sometimes, you just need some vanilla. I definitely needed some vanilla.
This review also includes the next part (Kase-san Series), although I'll talk about it separately (I'm lazy). From the perspective of a pretty normal guy who likes visual media and is not a pedophile or pervert (1 in a million for manga readers): Easily the second best yuri manga I've read, although I haven't read a lot yet, the writing is very enjoyable, and the characters have enough depth for you to care about them. Although a 10 might be excessive, I haven't read enough really good manga to truly contextualize a 10. I'd probably recommend this manga to someone interested in the genre after they've beenbaptized in a few wholesome romances/yuris, since it does have a little bit of nudity and sexual content that could scare off someone who hasn't experienced a lot of it. Alright, enough about rating and recommendation, lets get into the what.
Generally, the art is pretty good. It's not like, insane, but it has a very cute art style that improves as the manga goes on.
Spoilers past this point.
The plot is pretty simple, as we have two characters who would only rarely meet, and develop a crush on one another after one or two encounters (Yui develops the crush after one inciting incident, Tomoka ofc develops it over time from watching and admiring her work as the school's gardener). It then becomes Yui slowly growing closer and more confident. That's the gist of the beginning, and although it's not revolutionary, it doesn't drag, so its a very enjoyable and fast process. That's probably what I like most about the manga, is how it doesn't add fluff to the development of the relationship, like, we get to them being romantic pretty fast (which is my favorite part of romance).
After that, we get to see their relationship, and how they work through their emotions, trauma?, and shit. It's, again, not fluffed up, and is written very well, but nothing staggering for the reader.
College (Kase-san Series) is my favorite part, because it presents the first real challenges they face in their relationship, and also we get to see a little bit of how it affects other people (since they keep it a secret to avoid adversity, which isn't really touched on, and just accepted). Yui at her gardening college is the best way we've seen her character, as her having a passion in her work adds a ton to the enjoyability. Tomoka is arguably a little worse here though school activity wise (beach stuff and the roommate stuff is goated, I just feel like running became such an unimportant part of her character in favor of Yui, who is ultimately is the *main* main character of the story).
Now the best part of part of college is their actual relationship, because its no longer really as awkward or focused on development, and we get to see them long for each other and figure out how to live together. The overworking part was great as well, presenting a reasonable problem in their relationship (albeit, the desire for the rings and bed driving it kinda subtracted from the realism).
Anyways, fuck the tips for writers section, I'm writing this review based on how *I* enjoyed the story, and *I*'ll talk about whatever the hell *I* want. I'm also too lazy to proof read, I just wanted to give this another 'recommended', since it really is one of the best Yuris rn. Read I Love Amy tho, it's fucking glorious.
first of all, no my categories make no sense and don't question it. second of all. for some reason some blockhead thought itd be funny to include both the first and the second "season" of this manga in the same entry on MAL. so there are 5 volumes that round up the first and the second is at the time of writing still releasing, i only write this because there seems to be some confusion about that tl:dr review: you like actual progressing romance and yuri? absolutely read it. its in my opinion the most wholesome yuri romance that was ever put to paper (in manga formbecause i'm a degenerate and books are too wordy for me :^)
you dont like romance? why are you even here
Story 8: its a romance that goes somewhere there is not much story to be had but that what i would call a story in here is pretty satisfying, with which i mean that life goes on for the characters and they have to deal with that. that is about the most plot development ive ever seen in a romance so its a good for me. also im biased
Art 7: at first, i hated the art. in the first 2 or so volumes the art can look straight up bad at times especially the chibi art was really offputting to me. but thankfully the art improves considerably over the runtime and in the sequel i would even rank it as an 8 overall. but because its so spotty i wont go into details and just say, i am more than happy that i stayed even though i reallly disliked the art initially
Characters 8: ok, hear me out. ik that all of the 2 people who read my boku girl review are gonna say "ye i see that 8 for characters is really rare for you" and granted, aside from yui the characters can feel rather one note. but i like yui alot and this is my review so sshh.
they are consistent tho and if a character can make me care for someone such as kase who goes against anything i find attractive, im hard pressed to be salty about character writing this solid
Enjoyment 10: told ya im biased.
you read the tl:dr if not let me say it again. i cant point to a single shouji ai romance that left me more cozy and feel good as this one. might be that i was at pretty bad spot when i read it but screw it the manga gets points for it anyway. i just like cute girls being happy and this one is quite good at that soooo uugh yea 10/10 best manga ever
Conclusion : im not gonna repeat myself a third time, read it.
