The story of Immortal Rain is one which captured me from the first page. The serene yet tense atmosphere in the first few pages drew me in instantly. From then on it's full of action, suspense, humour, beauty, romance, symbolism, joy and dispair, regret and hope... All sorts. The characters are simply superb.The first book allows the reader to get to grips with the personalities of the main two and as the story progresses through the first 4 books, we learn more about Machika and Rain; their backgrounds, their painful memories and hopeful spirits. It makes the two truly enchanting, The art is, for themost part, simply beautiful, and the text makes it memorable. While art is, in truth, highly scarce online, even in black and white it's easy to appreciate the beauty of each message portrated by the work. But let me take the word "art" and apply it to more than just the drawings. The whole feel of the first 4 books is artistic, symbolic and thought provoking.

So why did the story and enjoyment scores suffer? Well, after volume 4, the pace of the plot slows down a little bit. It feels more forced, flows less and has less tension. The relationship between the main characters - Miaka and Rain - appears to have reached its limit, and the two no longer develop as much as they did before. The focus seems to be more on the minor characters, those who I didn't care for as much. While some old characters, those whom I was fond of, were brought back, their presence became almost tedious. Because of this, the plot dragged on a little.

Still, overall, it's a wonderful story. Well worth a read!

''Eww. A six hundred year old wanting to date a fifteen year old? This is gonna get old.'' Ladies and gentleladies and as well as that, possible men. I am an idiot. The above I consider not a spoiler simply because in the first few chapters, this is, by all accounts the main drive of the story. The bond between two people, two rather amazing characters. The lovable, big idiot with a timespan of infinite and a hair length that would make Fabio grumble and the girl with a fiery heart that wants to Kill Him, Kiss Him. Not that manga. It should be -so- cliche bynow. Romance stories of odd couples are hardly unheard of, so I wanted to dislike this manga. I wanted to. Instead, this became, by all accounts, one of my favorite manga's. Ever. I adore it. Immortal Rain, until I came here, was like the last cookie, you hold it to you and treasure the fact it's yours and just yours. The taste only you get to treasure.

I read the whole story. I laughed at bits and I'm not joking, some parts did make me cry. The raw emotion I felt was wonderful, absolutely dang wonderful. It was a read that engaged me throughout and the only places I felt it fell were certain bits with art that felt over-used and also, the story in places does seem to be the same as it usually is. But after a while, the sheer bonds and development between each character, the grinning, insane and alone Sharem, the cocky, swaggering, brave Eury, the stressed out, lost and angered Ishmael, so many characters, so many things to look at.

In short, why read Immortal Rain? It's a rather, simply put, elegant look at the human condition, why we strive to feel things when everything around us makes us want to scream 'screw it' and not care anymore. The small events that make existence wonderful again. I may exaggerate, but it is a favorite to me. I implore you to read it and even if you don't agree with me? We'll talk about it. We'll be able to talk about it and much like the story itself, we'll have one more reason to give a damn about living a little and talking 'bout it.

Well, i don't know what words i should use to describe all the feelings i have while i've been reading this manga. It's outstanding for me! i even held my breath sometimes. - The Story- The story is wonderful and touching. At the beginning it was quite average, but by the end of the first chapter, i've realised i'm totally captivated by it. - The Art- Well, tastes different of course, but i loved it. You know, sometimes the picture is pretty and clean, but you cant see and feel all emotions of characters. This manga's art is perfect in that way. -The Characters- Theyare just amazing, not only the main, but the supportings too. I've fall for Eury. i think he's great. And of course Rain and Machika...their relationship so sweet, gentle and soft. I wish with all my heart them to find their happiness.

- Enjoyment- well, as you can see. I'm exciting by this manga. It's full of adventure, good humor, sweetest romance, even though it has also a lot of drama. But anyway it's a great story.

- Overall- don't need any words i guess, just 10/10!

So if you like a mix of adventure, strong characters, deepest and sweet romance then it's definitely for you!

VERY UNDERRATED!! I remember stumbling on this series at my local library, it was a random volume 2--which I find odd even picking up since I hated reading out of order. I was completely drawn to it from that point on and couldn't wait until my holds would come, now this was before I had REAL internet...the dial-up stuff was running at my house; and I didn't even know scanlations was a thing--I was very young. I love the authors art work and diverse characters. I remember being in middle school and hiding it under my desk because I couldn't wait to read it. There's somuch nostalgia that I have for this series.

There's such good build up, climax, resolution, and conclusion. If you like complete and fulfilled closures, this would be it. There will be protagonists and antagonists, but by the end of it all, one feels very relatable and great sympathy for all the characters.

I don't know how else to convince anyone to read this series but it is one of my all time favorites! I don't understand how it's not an anime...a big loss really.

This is one of my favourite works of fiction, in any media, ever. And unfortunately, it seems tragically under-read. The art is beautiful, crisp and clear. You can almost feel every little frown, smile or look of sadness. The plot is addictive - it combines the drama, action, and loss with just the right amount of humour and romance to lighten the mood, in the appropriate places. The only reason I failed to give it top marks is beacuse it has certain moments where the pace could have been a little quicker, or it seemed a bit repetitive - but these were brief, and didn'tmajorly detract from the plot at all.

However, Immortal Rain's strongest point, by far, are it's characters. These characters, with their twisted, sad or lonely lives are what draw you into the series and hook you there. The main chacters, and key side characters, all have their pasts explored and developed. The characters never seem half hearted, or shallow. I remember first reading this series, 4 years ago, when I was 14, realising, for the first time in my life, I was jealous of a fictional character - Machika. You can't help but fall in love with Rain, and even a little with Eury, as the series gets on. The characters make you laugh, make you cry, make you anry - sometimes all three. You truly feel like you've read a much, much longer series than you actually have, because you simply know the characters so well.

I will finish this rambling, unpolished fangirl rant-ish review by simply saying this is a sometimes heartwarming, sometimes tragic story of love, loss, and the value of life. I am eagerly awaiting the conclusion in May, as I'm sure many are, and many who've waited much longer than I have too. There's no more I can say other than: read it. You'll never forget it.

The immortality of one's soul... is it an amazing gift or a foul curse? After reading 62 chapters, I remain with the first few lines from volume 2, chapter 8: I have no name, I have no form, I have no home. I will take your hand with these ethereal fingers. I will call you with this soundless voice.// If I could only embrace your flame in this empty heart. I liked the story before reading those lines, but it was exactly them that made me love the story, the characters, and even... Yuca. Pain is a double-edged sword: in Yuca it brings hatred and an almost sociopathic streak,while in Rain it brings a better understanding of the human soul. Both are in pain, and they struggle to end this scorching feeling. And, almost ironically, it is exactly Machika who, in spite of her young age, brings a sense of peace and love to their existence.

The visuals - are so contradictory to the grave plot of the story. It actually hightens the feelings we - the readers - have while reading. Such lovely colors and design that make us or - better said - made me cherish Rain and Machika's beautiful relationship even more.

The charaters are well-drawn and almost realistic. They deal with loss - of loved ones, of their humanity, of their freedom. They love and hate, fight and forgive. And even Yuca, who claims that he is sick of this world, shows signs of being able of feeling.

If there is one thing I dislike about this manga, it is only its 66 chapters span.

The summary caught my attention when I was looking to read something different. Even though I personally love a ton of romance in what I read, the small amount and the development of the relationship between Machika and Rain was very well done. I wish this would really be turned into an anime, as I adore this so much and seeing it animated would make my heart explode with happiness. I highly suggest this manga and I cannot wait for it's completion (thought part of me wants it to go on forever.. with faster updates as well X3)

when i first read the summery i just had to download the manga, and after i strated reading it i got hooked and read it non stop, the story was interesting and thats one of the things that got me hooked to it. the character development is great as both characters change emotionaly throughout the manga and you can see thier relationship changes.

I wish I could've enjoyed this manga. But, the truth is that it just simply is not that good. There is so much potential in this manga, but I guess Ozaki's writing skills just weren't good enough at this point in her career, as the execution is just short of terrible. I loved the premise of this manga, where there is a mysterious immortal man who eventually has to take care of a teenage girl. I thought that their dynamic would develop into some kind of wholesome father daughter relationship. As the series went on and more characters were introduced, I also thought that this woulddevelop into a more philosophical series where there doesn't seem to be a good answer to the challenges presented. I thought that the important characters would go through their own character arcs and have a nice resolution. The series never really did into any of these things.

I think my favorite part of the manga was during the beginning third of the manga, when the story was still being developed. I think the villains were introduced very well, especially with the character of Yuca. I loved Yuca's introduction, and I loved the explanation of the Methuselah's past that came along with that backstory. But, after this, the manga just kind of devolves. I can tell that Ozaki had a good outline of what to do with the story, but nothing is actually followed through well. I know I said just a few sentences ago that my favorite part of the manga was during the beginning, but in truth that may be the only actually decent part of this story.

As the series goes on, many of the main characters start to feel crazy and inauthentic. The main character, Machika, starts to become unbearably annoying, and originally interesting characters such as Sharem become simplified and one dimensional. Yuca, who I thought was the most interesting character, did a 180 and started to act in a way that felt out of character.

The worst part of this manga for me was the romance. It's just so bad. I was immensely uncomfortable anytime anything romantic was shown. Machika is too young a character, and I felt that she didn't really have any chemistry with Rain. At some point it starts to feel like all the romances (background ones included) only happen because the author felt some need to include needless romance in the story.

I hate to say it, but it just feels like there is no reason for anyone to read this manga. If you want something with that same old school 90's sci-fi feel, go read Trigun. If you want a very, very good story about an immortal man who has to protect a teenage girl, go read Blade of the Immortal. If you want a good romance story that is better than this, go read anything else because the bar isn't very high. If you want to read something else by Kaori Ozaki that is actually very good, try either The God's Lie or The Golden Sheep. These series, while short, were good enough for me to try out this series just because they shared the same author.

I rated this manga a 4/10, but truth be told I think this score might still be too high. I decided to give it a few extra point(s) because the art is good and also because I'm biased due to how much I like Kaori Ozaki's other works.

Story: This is a very well-rounded manga. It has action, romance, suspense, tragedy- it has a little bit of everything. Once you begin, it's extremely hard to put it down. The story flows so well from one chapter to the next and you never know what is going to happen- not a moment of it is cliché. Art: I absolutely love the art in this story... There is a noticeable difference around chapter 20 where the art improves greatly from chapter 1. The art almost seems like portraits of real people- it just draws you in because it's so alluring. Characters:The main characters are well-detailed in back-story and personality. There are sooo many others in this story, yet you get a feel for every single one of them.

This is one of my favorites... An absolute must read!

This manga is absolutely amazing. The story is great. It blends adventure, romance, comedy, drama. Despite being a fantastical manga, it still has an incredible message. It's very hard to describe the feeling I had after reading it. All I can say is that it made me love being a human being despite all the hardships I just read. The art, like in many manga, gets better as the story progresses. By the end, it's very clear and conveys so many emotions. It's the characters that make this manga. Their development is remarkable. Rain's backstory is the most touching, yet strangely simple thing I have everyread. They never give up on one another. Rain is just filled with so much love that you cannot help but love him back.

Read Immortal Rain! You won't regret it!

So I started reading this thinking i was gonna rate it a 7 and that the story would be interesting but nothing special. I WAS SO WRONG! This is the PERFECT blend of romance and action. The plot never got boring and I couldn't stop reading. The characters are great. The plot is pretty serious but the author also includes funny things that aren't cheesy. The plot keeps changing so you are never bored but you are still able to follow the story really easily. This is is like 'Tokyo Crazy Paradise' meets 'Fullmetal Alchemist' meets 'Superior'. Well you might think that maybe my comparison isa little off but regardless I'm pretty sure you will love it.

Essentially, this is a love story mixed up with adventure and some fights. It's a little bit different from what I've already read from Kaori Ozaki. Meteor Methuselah looks like an attempt on shounen territory but without abandon the theme of love that generally accompanies the author throughout her other works. The protagonist, Rain, deals with the fact he's unable to die. He's 620 years old. The behavior from him is not we would expect, though. Rain is very relaxed about it. He chooses to embrace his situation even though he has experienced the loss of people he loved in the past. When Rain encounters Machika- in the beginning as an enemy - they start their path towards a love story.

Machika is the active type of character which balances well with Rain laziness. She's strong, decided. The lovable aspect of her is that we can see her development, much more than the other characters. She's 14, so a teenager. It's possible to see her childish thoughts towards Rain. Kaori Ozaki didn't treat her as an adult as much shounen does when we have a character that should be 14 or 15. Still, they have these fully developed bodies and mind turning them into an ageless character, consequently stealing a little bit of their identity.

Machika is a teenager, and we can tell that either in her behavior as in her body. She's so small compared to Rain that it's weird to imagine them as a couple. It looks wrong. I think the author nailed in that regard. Different from other works of her, the main couple is not evenly matched in their age. She's 14 years old with an adult "boyfriend." (In the end, I rationalized that in the past, in many cultures, this was the age when women were considered adults, so in the context of the manga should be acceptable. However, in the modern world, this is too much, so, for me, it was impossible not to find that weird to the end). Things got complicated as she starts to mature – only in her mindset aspect since the whole story happens in more or less one year. As the story goes on, she turns more into a partner for Rain, rather than some child he's taking care of. On the other side, we see Rain been more human, less the immortal and wise being, beyond our comprehension. So, it's a great dynamic between them, where the more Machika grows, the more of Rain's weakness we see.

The entrance of the third main character turns things more interesting. Yuca starts as an enemy, the antagonist of the story. The natural threat that needs to be defeated or solved by the main characters, but as some events happen, his role in the story changes significantly, and so he ends up being the third part in the Rain-Machika dynamic. Sorry for being vague about him, but since Yuca appears only mid-way through the series, it's difficult to talk about him without giving major spoilers. Only knows that Yuca's presence helps Meteor Methuselah goes past the average shounen story. We don't have a clear antagonist, some force to be destroyed for the sake of humanity. It's a story where characters' interaction is way more important than the big events that happen, which is a characteristic of the genre.

Hello there! Allow me to present you a story full of suspense, endangered humanity destroyed by it's own hands, barren lands and chuunibyou drivel. Allow me to present you... "The story that was totally not inspired by trigun and you should totally read it because it's worthwhile". Honestly, there's so little that's different about the story that if I told you the differences that'd be spoilers because you know what'll happen next. Characters are... good (and familiar), the world is very consistent in it's postapocalyptic feel (hey, I heard it somewhere else...), and even the narration will make you check twice if you're actually reading a newmanga. It's good, but because it's inspired by something exceptional, and about only original input I managed to find was the teenage rambling like"Finding me in the darkness, the heavins cry and you sit on the balcony".

All in all, the story was interesting and fun to read, but so unoriginal that personally I'll never read it again. It's a good and enjoyable time killer, but not much else. You won't be enriched, suprised or anything after reading it. So, yeah, if you already read all the better manga and still have too much free time, give this one a go.

To be honest, this was the first manga I ever read. Way back in high school too. The story was, at first slightly confusing but after all the pieces fell in place - it's a story to love. From the first funny moment in the story to the heart-stopping cliffhanger we got in America. I loved it. It took some time but eventually, the ending came and when it did...It was worth the wait. The art was astounding, the characters, the scenery and the details were all perfect. I feel obligated to say that the last chapters were, in my opinion, rushed. The ending for some of thecharacters is fairly open to interpretation. Though for the two primary characters, it's fairly straight forward and easy to see what their future held.
