Toshiue no Hito is a Mature, Ecchi, Romance, Slice of Life dealing with the dilemmas involved, with a couple’s heated love life. It proves to be a very enjoyable hentai-ish romance that later loses its flair resulting in a lacklustre finish. The story follows a college student (Tsutomu Itou) who has been having the same vivid “wet dream” about a girl he doesn’t know. Then out of the blue a similar-looking girl appears before him (Ageha Osanai), who looks sort of like a teenager, when in fact she’s actually older than him. From that point on they soon embark on their sensual romance, which is onlyimpeded by Tsutomu’s indecisiveness. The story for this manga is certainly fast-paced, as most of what I’ve just explained is covered in the 1st chapter, with the story developing steadily from then on. Each chapter focuses on a different issue for our main characters and friends, so the story is easy grasp but enjoying it is another question, as it all depends on ones taste.

The two main characters are a very interesting match. Tsutomu is an honest and in the beginning, a very reserved guy that is to some extent easy to understand but at some points he can be rather pathetic (impotent). Whereas Ageha is a forward and mysterious woman, which any lolicon would love. There’s a bunch of supporting characters who appear throughout the story but that’s pretty much all they are. Just seem to be there to support the main ones.

In the beginning the artwork is pretty unremarkable in the way that there’s not much to allow this manga to initially stand out. The character designs are decent and so are the packed backgrounds; however it lacks some fine detail. It’s only when it comes to the character close ups or the smutty, sensual panels that the artwork moves up a level. Not to mention that after the first volume the artwork undergoes some improvements.

Overall for a mangaka who is used to publishing H-manga, this Mature, Romance, Slice of Life proved to be quite enjoyable; for a person who likes the odd perverted romance, which has a story. The rushed story was good in the way that helped it progress nicely in the first 2 volumes however certain issues, like the love triangle, were solved too quickly and too smoothly. This manga could certainly do better with a bit more drama, other than the minor insecurities that every couple goes through, but I guess this laid-back story is also appealing in some way. Just a shame that after the few main issues are resolved, the story goes from laid-back to plain dull and repetitive. Guess that means this mangaka still needs to wok on his creative writing skills.

*Be warned though, there's A LOT of sexual content.*

There is really nothing special about "Toshiue no Hito" and I have to admit to forcing myself to finish the manga (I read it all in one sitting over a couple of hours). Part of the problem is that the main character is a rather unlikable fellow, the type of popular manga "hero" who is weak willed, indecisive, obtuse and really so pathetic that it's hard to imagine he is qualified to be in human company, let alone a relationship. Sometimes this can be done well if those characters grow, but in fact quite the opposite happens and at the end of the manga heactually gets worse, to the point where at the end of the manga I really wanted him to just roll into a ball and die.

I'll put it bluntly - this is not some of Ryuuta Amazume best writing and if you're looking for something with the deeper psychological profiles like "Nana to Kaoru: Black Label" you're going to be sorely disappointed. In fact, I think that the plot here seems somewhat stolen from the much better (and longer) "Maison Ikkoku" by Rumiko Takahashi but with a terrible main protagonist, an unbelievable main heroine and a supporting cast of utterly forgettable characters. This is romance and melodrama done "by the numbers" with very little of the creativity that can be seen in Amazume's other works.

That being said, even though the story and characters are fairly mediocre, the artwork is excellent and the layout and pacing is good, making this a very easy to read manga that goes at a fast clip. I probably would have scored the overall in this lower if it wasn't for the fact that it does have a decent denouement and the story closes up on a rather conclusive note (always a treat for a manga to NOT have an ambiguous ending)

On the whole I probably wouldn't recommend reading this unless you're a fan of Amazume's.

For people who s interessed to read the manga! First of all the great thing about this anime is the story, in my opionion is a great love story, if you are fan of love's stories i raccomend the anime. There also sex scenes so you better be prepared for it, altought there's not full of this scenes so you can actually enjoy the story. The main protagonist is impotent because he has nightmares about being "raped"(you will discover more reading the manga), until the girl he dream about appear. The charatcter developpement of the mains protagonists is great, from a "kid" he started to learn how reallyour society work(at the end at least), and what are responsabilities.

The charatcer are good and so the art.

You will enjoy the manga, but in the middle of chapter it starts getting boring for a bit, I suggest to not give up reading because few chapter after it starts to get interessting and very nice.

This is my first review and I think I'm going to do some other's in manga or anime less known just to make people like me understand a bit if it will suit the personal taste of every one.

I'm also not english so I hope you could understand my tought s about the manga.

Enjoy the manga ;)

Characters 7 ☆ For a relatively short manga there is quite a bit of depth to the 2 main and supporting characters . Tsutomu , the male lead's personality is fairly cliché except for his 'unique' condition (impotency) . He's a college literature student in search of himself . Ageha , the female lead is "An Older Woman" , a widow and a bubbly flat-chested brunette petite . She rather quickly slays his mental hangup his previous GF couldn't - his ex is one of the crew - LOL Story 8 ☆ The Story revolves around their blossoming and occasionally rocky relationship . The other support characters help and/orhinder this new love generally adding to the hilarity . One scene found fellow club member asking for details of their 'regular' sex life only to be jealousy embarrassed by the pornstar level of their activities . The irony is that of the dozen or more of her friends our couple is the only ones getting any ... regular ? *smirx*

Art 12 ☆

Overall exceptional character drawing , but what makes this such a stunner is Ageha's facial expressions during their frequent sex scenes . I have seen none better . This is NOT smut . No nudity below the waist is depicted except for butts .

Overall Enjoyment 9 ☆

I found this hard to put down . A good story , great characters and wonderful art . It had moments of hilarity and sadness . Honestly I nearly stopped reading about 3/4 of the way thru I got so mad . But that's the mark of greatness , to be so moved . "you can only Love what you Hate"

I will be looking into more Amazume, Ryuta work

Scores 9.0 ☆

Gets better with every reread. It is more of a documentary illustrating adult love and its derivation of struggles attached to it than strictly a manga. It has little to no redundant variables to stretch out the plot or add drama.A typical Ryouta's work which has its nuances in the dialogues and its delivery without blatant exposition. The main characters are Ageha and Tsutomu, college students of same year. Both of them are cut out of similiar mold. They are a dynamic duo who has their ups and downs rather than follow a linear path, which in turn made it relatable and realistic. The manga is dividedinto two portions ; first where it deals with Ageha's insecurity and second with Itou.

Both had a precondition which made them fear falling in love .Ageha fearfull of her age gap,the years she lost and the conduct she is expected to have in front of the younglings, runs away once she falls in love dreading their future together. He chases after her . Trials and tribulations ensues and they vow their love for each other.

Tsutomu due to his condition(impotency) overcompensates more often than not.He wants to be the man who would stand toe to toe with his older girlfriend. He is confident about his academics but fails to get a job owing due to him losing a year .To make matters worse Ageha gets pregnant and now it's time for him to feel cornered.Suffocated he runs away and reconciles later on ending with both of them marrying and shouldering responsibilities .The circle of friends around them were very impressive supporting the duo. They weren't just there as catalysts.A few of them had their own interesting stories to tell.

All in all a fabulous read and recommended for someone looking for serious romance with interesting set of characters without a contrived plot
