Reviews for Rutta to Kodama
Back to MangaI totally fell in love with this manga! It's extremely sweet and cute! Story: The main story (Rutta & Kodama's story) is not exactly filled with a lot of drama but is still very interesting. And the fact that there aren't many conflicts to do with jealousy and such just shows how much they trust each other. It's just so sweet and cute.. And it's not like your typical yaoi's that all are sex-crazy with the resistant uke and the forceful seme. It's sweet and it's very clear that they love each other so much (sorry for sounding cheesy ^^)... Art: The art is beautiful. I was veryimpressed, all the characters are very good looking and the body proportions are good.
Character:
Some of the characters were a little boring. Although I like Kodama is very cute and funny, he is plain and it's a little unrealistic that a guy like Rutta would fall in love with him like that. But most of the characters were designed well, even some of the side characters (Hiromi has such a nice personality!)
Enjoyment:
I enjoyed this manga sooo much! It was just so cute (how many times have I said that word?!) and I have re-read the chapters I've read lots of times.
I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of shoujo manga/anime. And I think it's a good manga to read if you're only beginning to like yaoi. There are still sex-scenes and such but it's very romantic and not as intense as other yaoi manga's.
This is simply one of the best stories I've ever read in this genre. The story is so sweet, the characters are so straightforward that it's refreshing. Most of the manga I've read so far bank on conflicts, misunderstandings, characters who won't accept their feelings (initially), and then the couple overcoming all the hurdles to get their happy ending. Though those kinds of stories are also fun to read and make one's heart beat fast, it's great to find a gem like Rutta to Kodama that does not need those in order to make the story sweet, heartwarming, and really interesting. The characters really growon you. I wish there are more like this from Fujitani-Sensei!
While I was reading this manga I got embarrassed a lot, the characters mood effect me haha. I love this manga so much, the only thing is that I feel sorta empty at the ending, I don't know how to describe it, and I was a bit confuse too, like what job did Kodama get and so. Other than that I LOVE IT! it really touches me.
This is more like a ''Why you should read this manga'' than a review. The story of this manga is just so realistic, I love it. Most love stories focus on the getting to getter/starting dating part, but not this one and this is what I like the most about it. It just tells a story about two boys dating and how their couple and feeling grow as time passes. It may seem too simple and maybe boring, but it's not. It just feels real, I could really see myself in the characters and some parts. And even if the story is simple, don't expect tosee undevelopded characters, because they are really well created and have a nice personnality.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story and I think anybody who had a long relationship before will like it too.
The only things I did not like in the story is that it is too short, I would have liked to see more (in college for example) and also learn a bit more about the supporting characters. The othe thing I disliked was the fact that I felt like sometimes (maybe 2-3 times overall) sex scenes were thrown in just to be there. They were sexy and all, but I felt like they weren't necessary and I don't like when writers do that.
Finally, this is a must read for any yaoi/shonen-ai fan or people who like great love stories!
Story: Wow. Just wow. Fantastic. I love the irony in the plotline and how the characters interact with each other. I always thought that the jealousy twists were the best, but I found the confession from Rutta to Kodama cute and adorable too~ As an avid fujoshi, I seriously have to applaud this manga as one of my favorites of all time. The story was woven very intricately and it flowed very smoothly. It was unique and was something most girls and boys can relate to. Art: Outstanding. Nothing else to say. Very detailed and neat. Smooth, crisp lines give enjoyment and special effect to the plotline. Asa person who loves graphics, I have to say - I looked up more stories from this author just so I can see more of her art. It's just fantastic. I fell in love with both of the main characters.
Character:
Very good. There was pretty nice character development going on. Kodama was humorous and had a good touch to him. I didn't find him annoying at all - ever. Rutta's character development was also amazing. The story of how he changed from a delinquent to a nicer character? I was touched and I connected to him so much because I have other friends like him. I love those characters to death.
Enjoyment:
10000/10. The end. I started reading, and I couldn't stop. At all. Simply fantastic.
Overall:
9. I would put 10 if the story would just be longer. That's my only complaint. I definitely recommend this to any yaoi lovers or even just people who want to try this fandom. It would be the perfect manga to start out with - or maybe Junjou Romantica or Sekaiichi Hatsukoi but let's not get into that. I applaud this author. Simply worth as a yaoi classic in my opinion.

This manga so cute~ but the story doesn'et have a plot... the only thing that make the manga to be cute, is the relationships between the characters. this manga cute to pass the time, nothing more. Oh, and the art is great! I really like the characters design :)
I would recommend Rutta To Kodama to anyone seeking out a simple, heart-warming read under the category of yaoi manga. The story completely centers around the relationship between the two male protagonists, and any other aspects of the story are left relatively unexplored if not in relation to the main subject; while this could possibly be a make-or-break with many stories, Rutta To Kodama finds a way to keep the reader enthralled in the manga without focusing on any true external conflict. Actual feelings of being in a relationship are explored exceedingly well, making it easy for the reader to resonate with the emotions beingportrayed by the characters. Personally, art style is extremely important to me, and Rutta To Kodama was beautifully illustrated. A unique trait of this particular manga is that unlike most plot-lines, which explore the circumstances that lead up to the forming of a relationship, an existing relationship is pre-established during the exposition, leaving the story to focus on the growing of the bond between the protagonists. It was a different but very pleasant change in pace. Although the story seems to progress too quickly for the first few chapters, the plot settles in after that, and readers are left to enjoy a sweet, steady tale over the span of a few years.
All in all, Rutta To Kodama was a great read, and I actually enjoyed it so much that I finished it in a matter of hours. It is a decent enough length (21 Chapters) to leave the reader feeling fulfilled but still wishing there was more. If you are searching around for a more realistic, amply plotted, sexual (but not raunchily so) yaoi manga, I would HIGHLY recommend this; as far as that genre goes, this is my favorite story that I have read to date.
Side-note: Although I would give this story a 9/10 or so in regards to the yaoi genre specifically, I rated this manga while considering the overall spectrum of things I have read to make the review of Rutta To Kodama's quality as accurate as I could.
Definitely one of the best yaoi slice of life stories I've read. What started out as two boys living the school life with fun and excitement with a lot of love fast forward to them thinking about their future and what they want to do as adults. It did a pretty good job at making this story realistic and relatable especially when Kodama fell in love and felt jealousy for the first time but managed to think rationally of his feelings, and Takao becoming a better man and proving himself worthy for Kodama was a really nice touch. I didn't expect to be hit rightin the feels for this one, I just thought it's another cutesy bl but it was really something deeper and more meaningful. I'm so happy that they were able to touch on some aspects of reality that shows life goes through hardships and making decisions is hard but you just gotta do what you are passionate about. I really liked this story, surely on of my favorites of all time. I could only hope there would be more of this adorable, sweet, and lovely couple. <3
Completely agree with MissLockhart. Although there is not much conflict in this manga, it is well worth the read. Rutta x Kodama (main couple) The characters are cute and interesting. Really enjoyed the bad boy to sweetheart trend. I also found the friendship between Kodama and Hikomi.(uke and a female friend who is very supportive) to be refreshing. It isn't often that you find a female that isn't trying to get in the way of the relationship. Usually you find them interfering because of a crush she has on one of the males in a BL relationship. Wish more yoai had such awesomefemale supporting characters!
Torao x Tatsume (one shot)
Both skilled in fighting, and best friends. Seriously love delinquent types! Sometimes being dense can be cute, and with this couple it really is! How can you not know your childhoods friends sexual preference when you help them "relieve themselves" lolz.
The art in the manga is seriously adorable! Fluidly drawn and not sparkly or overly manly either. Perfect for males who are just under the age of adulthood.
