I started by reading the manga and it seemed pretty good, the thing is sometimes the Ml can be quite annoying, but then I learnt that in the novel you can understand everything much better. With that in mind, after reading the novel, the manga is lacking in many ways, there are parts that were much better in the novel and aren't portrayed as deeply in the manga. People who hate Killian because of his attitude of blaming everything on Edith, you can definitely see a character development in the novel, while in the manga they don't show much of Kilians' pov. That does notmean the manga is bad, compared to the novel it could be way better (I also love the art style).

I recommend reading the novel if you want to fully understand the characters and the complexity they have, but as a way of spending your time, reading the manga is not a bad idea.

‘Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story’ was recommended to me as a rather atypical ‘ reincarnated as a villain story’ - OMG A MANHWA TITLE THAT MIGHT MAKE SENSE?! Manhwa (Korean manga), manga or anime have the stupid habit of giving themselves names that are far too long and often inappropriate despite or because of this. That's not the case here, which is the first HUGE plus point. Apart from that, we accompany Edith Rigelhof here, whose soul has of course been resurrected from another world. Remaining tropes are also fulfilled - for example, she knows the book and so wants to make everything better or everyone hatesher as the villain of the story. But the hope of being able to make everything better is quickly dashed: a mysterious force pushes the other characters and also Edith into the course of the story! But apparently this force is not omnipotent - so will Edith manage to defeat it?

So what exactly is unusual about this story? Roughly speaking, EVERYTHING. What starts out as just copying all the tropes of the genre soon gets more and more twists, big and small, which quickly makes the story feel unique. E.g.: The mysterious force that pushes the story into its course is nothing unusual in such works. But Edith soon realises that there is a person with an ego behind the force. But who? A ‘fight against fate’ quickly turns into a ‘fight against an unknown enemy’. Edith is also simply another special feature. Normally in such works we get planning protagonists who use their knowledge to mould the world to their will. Edith tries to do this at first, but it soon becomes clear that she is a very emotional character. As a result, the story develops not because she planned it that way, but because she was simply a nice, emotional person. Instead of ‘I know the story, I can fix it’ out of thin air, we get so many emotional moments here where it just makes sense for characters to help Edith.

The only criticism, which for me is very serious, is the system behind the power mentioned above, which is not dealt with in detail. For example, the protagonist has to fulfil three conditions in order to break the influence of the person mentioned, but she has no idea of the conditions except that they exist, which means she only has the choice of stumbling into them by accident. Obviously this ‘I'm the protagonist, I accidentally fulfil everything important’ comes across as annoying, although admittedly there's a bit more to it than that, which I won't spoil. This unawareness runs through the entire manhwa. Every time this power plays a role, the protagonist has no idea and the reader has far too little to fully understand the scenarios. This is always annoying, also because the power plays an increasingly important role in the later chapters and seems more and more unnecessary or even like breaks with the actual plot.

All in all, my praise may seem rather meaningless to people who are not so familiar with the genre or type of story. It's great that a ‘fight against fate’ quickly turns into something else, but how is that special? Well, because ‘Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story’ just starts out so typical and consistently very self-consciously and seemingly intentionally adapts and then slightly breaks with typical tropes of such stories, you get something familiar that still feels new and refreshing. Compare it to a pizza: you'll have eaten pepperoni pizza far too many times to find it extremely tasty, but then you enter this one restaurant that makes it slightly different and suddenly you have a new taste experience. Apart from that, the manhwa as a whole, especially the characters, is simply well written.

Not all villains are evil. Edith, the female lead, is reincarnated into a novel where she is forced to marry her family’s enemy. Despite being kind and quiet, people still see her as a villain. Watching her suffer, grow stronger, and slowly change her fate is heartbreaking. What makes this story special is its focus on female characters. Their strength, growth, friendship, and healing matter more than romance. It shows how people can find peace and justice after being hurt. Every character plays an important role. It is a slow burn. The male lead is frustrating at first, but he has reasons for his behavior and real characterdevelopment. He is not trash. You will understand him better if you keep reading. The story rewards patience.

The art is beautiful, and the outfits are well-fitting.

Can feel painful at the beginning because Edith suffers a lot, but that makes the later parts even more satisfying. When characters finally face consequences.

The ending is very satisfying and gives the characters the closure they deserve.

And yes! I especially loved how things turned out for Edith and Rhyse (my babies!) 💕

I've read quite a bit of manga like this one, however, this is one of the more memorable ones I've read. It tends to throw in a twist when you think Edith is finally able to calm down from whatever she had to go through (usually drama with her in-laws or husband). Edith tends to be the outcast because of her family and past actions even though she wasn't actually the soul behind it. She's not able to tell anyone about the situation she's in due to a system which she has to go through three missions to kind of overwrite it in a way.She treats the former FL with a kind of big sister attitude yet no one sees that they see FL being bullied (p's me off)

Though I will warn you the former FL doesn't really do anything but give some ugly faces, and ask Killian questions (he twisted stuff). but I warn you that you'll grow to hate her but she might do something later so you can justify but who knows she might not.

Overall it's a good story and I do recommend it right now but that could change in the future seeing as it is an ongoing story and I have only read what is out right now as i'm writing this. :)

Update: its great and super hard to put down, tho I will say it seemed a bit rushed at the end but the bonus scenes cleared some of that feeling up in my opinion

"Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story" is an entirely typical reincarnation story, BUT--my congratulations--I give it 7/10 for 3 reasons: 1. Pretty art. I'm not alone on prioritizing artwork, so let's just get it out there. 2. Female lead has a nice disposition. She's quiet, but not so insufferably insecure as most of her contemporary FLs. Rather than convincing us that she's (sparkle sparkle) not like other girls (sparkle) and would "really just rather read(until they start changing her character's backstory like she wasn't originally a villainess). Her self-possessed demeanor is also appreciated for...

3. Fan service. FL is known to be pretty, ML is also attractive. Despite his initial aversion to her (inherited) bad rep, we are actually treated to a rapid development in their relationship. They're already married at the outset, and rather than waste 50-100 chapters convincing us it's a "fake marriage turned into real love; omg do you think they'll kiss??" the author seals the Deal (see me raise my eyebrows) within 20 chapters and we get some degree of normalcy between husband & wife thereafter. In this sense, it is NOT your typical reincarnation story (contradicting my opening line, I know).

If you can't stand the frequent misunderstandings levied against the FL, then you're in the wrong genre. Glad to see from another review on here that the character development of the husband is more pronounced in the source material. He is a real brat for the most part.

STORY 8/10 Wow. I was not prepared for how it would turn out and while that isn't the making of a great story - technically it wasn't a masterpiece but it had me at the edge of my seat. Sometimes to enjoy something you need to shut up that little part of your brain that says 'this is overdone! this is cliche! I've seen this before SO many times' Because it really isn't about the story being revolutionary and much more about the journey and the execution. I had a good time. So it gets an 8/10 ART 10/10 Everyone in this manhwa is beautiful. I'm fairly newto reviewing these things but I'm just blown away by how pretty the art is. The backgrounds, the clothes! the hair!!

CHARACTERS 7/10

Surprisingly the characters are the weakest part of this manhwa. They aren't particularly memorable. They follow their path and they were predictable.

But that's by design. Our FL is stuck in a hack novel written by a deeply unhappy woman who wants the entire world to benefit one person. By the end of the story, the characters are waking up and still figuring out how their lives will proceed now that they have the freedom.

I. LIVE. For. This. Shit.

FINAL SCORE - 8.3

I am so happy to finally see another side of the very overused idea of reincarnation in manhwas. "Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story" is, indeed, not your typical reincarnation story. Finally, we have a strong female lead who is capable of thinking for herself and doesn’t always need to be saved by the male lead (or in this case, the second male lead, lol). At first, I thought, “Oh, yet another isekai story,” but after a few chapters, it actually impressed me and made me binge-read it. One of the things I love the most about this manhwa is its focus on the second leads rather thanthe main ones. I also like the idea of the author controlling the story and Edith not being able to fully use her previous knowledge of it to navigate what happens next. In most typical reincarnation/villainess stories, you always see the female lead using what she knows about the plot to predict or change events, so seeing another side of this concept is very refreshing.

The idea of making a story about the “second” male and female leads is also very interesting and adds a nice nuance to an overly used reincarnation plot. Killeon was a very good second male lead. What I loved about him is that he was not the best or the greatest from the beginning. You can see him working his way up alongside (and at the same time separately from) Edith, which makes the characters feel more realistic and gives them proper character development. I especially loved seeing this in contrast with his brother, who was the greatest from the start, just like a typical male lead.

One thing I really wished for was for Edith to get along with the female lead, because in stories like this, you almost never see two girls getting along from the beginning and forming a deep bond. It genuinely made me sad to see that Reeze was the actual villain of the story, because I hoped she and Edith would become friends and go through things together.

I didn’t get what I wished for, but instead, I got something even better. I won’t spoil it in this review, but Reeze received a much better ending and storyline than I could have hoped for. And her relationship with Edith turned out to be something unexpected and truly satisfying.

I also loved that at the end we got to see a little bit of other characters stories and what happened with them. Trully, great work from the author.

"Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story" has to be the funniest title you could've given this story. truly. the title compels the question, what does the author think is a typical reincarnation story? well, i think a typical reincarnation story is one where your have your puppy-like protagonist reincarnate from another world, have some adventures, persevere against a villain that's probably hidden in the shadows, all the while the protagonist effect in others lives is mostly positive, overall the protagonist should be something akin to a mary sue, a good person through and through, and in the end, the protagonist will end up in a loving healthyrelationship with a suitable lead.

well shit, seems i've just described this story. there's absolutely nothing new here, the antagonist is an irredeemable asshole who just finds pleasure in the act of being a cunt and having the biggest ego you'll ever see. the protagonist is this perfect little flower, always so right and kind and gentle, with the power to change people's heart with how good she is. and the male lead is this gentle, tall, muscular also almost perfect man. and after dealing with the antagonist they go on to have their little perfect happy ending. god i have absolutely no idea how the author had the balls to name this series, this is so typical i've really got no words, absolute 5/10, docked to 4 because it goes so profoundly against it's own premise. this is a more women-centric isekai so it's not quite the same kind of thing that you would find in a male-centric isekai like the greatest estate developer but it's still the very same structure.

the funniest thing about it all is that this constantly mocks the in-story author for his shitty story-telling all the while creating the same kind of plot, it's absolutely fucking hilarious to the point i'm convinced this has to be satire in some way.
