Reviews for Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo
Back to MangaBy far the most funny manga I have ever read. The series is constantly coming out with joke after joke, making you crack up all the time. Sawai is a genius. To get one thing out of the way, if you take Bobobo seriously you're doing it completely wrong. It's a comedy manga. The fact that Bobobo fights with nosehair, that Don Patch is an orange... something, etc should be taken with a "haha oh wow" attitude and if you don't you're incredibly stupid and ruining the enjoyment the manga. The story goes well with the humoristic theme of the series and the characters are allfleshed out in their own hilarious way. I laughed all the time as I read it. Fans of YGO and DBZ should also be able to appreciate the various parodies on these and other mangas.
As far as the art goes, it goes very well with the silliness in the manga. Compared to other manga it's kinda mediocre, but when combined with the extreme humour of this series it fits amazingly well.
If you want something incredibly funny and not too serious Bobobo would definietly fit that request. Absolutely recommended.
Story 8/10 Extremely nonsensical, but still manages to be very funny. Likes to parody other shonen manga. Art 3/10 Art overall is not good. Shading is clearly done in a way to imitate early parts of Jojo or Fist of the North Star. Unfortunately, the hatching often makes no sense when you consider the lighting of the environment. Character designs are unique and memorable. How can you forget a man with a poop shaped head, a walking jelly blob, and a 'sexy' bipedal torpedo? I rest my case. Character 10/10 There's a clear cut line between the sane and insane characters, and that's what makes this manga funny.Enjoyment 10/10
This is the type of manga that is hilarious when you are in primary school. Then you grow out of it during your teenage years. Now you're in your late twenties, and to your delight, you find Bobobo hilarious again.
Overall 8/10
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo was one of my favorite anime, and still is. The non-sensical Hajike that the trio of Bobobo, Don Patch, and Tennosuke, alongside Heppokomaru and Beauty's tsukommi is something that's probably never going to be replicated again. A lot of the manga is quite cluttered, with honestly, yes, rough drawing that isn't exactly pretty to look at. However, it maintains the craziness that it needs to, and despite the cluttered backgrounds and panels, they're full of action and excitement. There's so much going on that it's actually hard to keep track of what's going on. So many parodies, references, and jokes flew over my headbecause there was just too much of them. The slapstick, nonsensical nature of the gag humor in the show never quite gets stale. It's true that the very last arc of the manga was a bit disappointing compared to the other arcs, and the comedy certainly dropped to a certain degree, but even so, a pleasant experience.
There's an immense cast of characters, some of them, you'd think be annoying or over the top. I actually don't think so. Every character has a purpose, and they all play different roles in the ever-changing comedy and scenarios that the team is in. I do think that for the slapstick nature of the show, Bobobo basically is never at the butt end of the joke, which does hurt a bit in terms of character dynamics. Don Patch is a lot better, but Tennosuke is essentually a punching bag.
There's flaws, but a lot of good things also.
