Reviews for Viral Hit
Back to MangaInitially I thought I could drop this work right away but it became more interesting as I read it. Comedy didn't work for me in the first few chapters, but after a while I was finding many of the happenings funny. Being a youtuber is a reality that is a little easier to connect cause most young people today know or follow the platform. It's interesting how the protagonist learns, grows and understands better about self-defense each chapter. Looking forward to see where and how far the story goes. Recommend If you are a fan of comedy and martial arts manga/manwha.
Viral Hit/How to Fight has a really good start. The story is about Hobin Yoo who is a weak kid that that gets regularly bullied at school but more importantly is poor and him and his mom are financially struggling. When he suddenly makes it big on youtube by mistakenly livestreaming him and his friend having a pathetic fist fight, he realizes he can make money off Youtube by streaming him fighting bullies and in the process learns how to fight. The fights are great, the writer used two professional fighters as advisors on the choreography and the art is amazing, one of my favoritevisual styles in all of manhwa. Hobin is a fun underdog character who is constantly punching up in his matchups and it's enjoyable to read as the author goes into great detail of the strategies Hobin has to rely on to win against a much stronger opponent. After the beginning, there is a group of villains that get introduced and all of them are emotionally compelling villains with interest backstories.
Viral Hit is a manhwa that runs on a season system similar to Tv shows in the west and it has in total two seasons. This is where it starts getting hard to truly recommend Viral Hit. Season 1 is written by the main author Park Tae Jun and the art is done by Kim Junghyun and Park Tae Jun has two professional fighters as advisors. Season 1 has an almost conclusive story at the end, the main conflict feels like it basically resolved. But then it continues the main villain gets away and is the main villian againt for a whole another season, season 2 has the main author Park Tae Jun drop out and the story is now done by the artist Kim Junghyun and the two professional fighters also drop out of being advisors. What you have left is a story being done by someone who is obviously much less skilled at writing and fights maybe could be considered interesting in any other story but in look bland and lacking substance in direct contrast to the fights in Season 1. If Season 1 was a 9/10 then Season 2 is a 6/10
Overall the only real way to really enjoy Viral hit would be to pretend like Season 2 doesn't exist. Just pretend Viral hit ends abruptly at chapter 135 then teleport to the epilogue chapter at chapter 217-218.
*This is my first ever review and i’m not a native speaker so please overlook my mistakes. Story – 9/10 From the author of Lookism here comes “Viral Hit”, a realistic action story about highschoolers doing newtube. It starts with our main character Hobin Yoo who is constantly bullied at school discovering a channel about fighting with no views. He starts working out at home and fights bullies on livestreams, getting stronger by every fight. It doesn’t just focus on action, it has nice comical relief/slice of life chapters making the webtoon enjoyable. The mc doesn’t get abrupt power-ups, every technique he learns is explained in detailand you really see how he grows throughout the story. The story also shows different sides of Korean society and the plot gets more complicated later on.
Art – 10/10
Viral Hit’s art is the most beautiful art i’ve ever seen. I’ve read tons of webtoons but Kim Junghyun’s art is on another level. It has a semi-realistic art style and the color palette is lively, the shading is done well. Action scenes are drawn clearly and truly makes you excited. It's insane how he draws 80+ panels on a weekly basis.
Characters – 8/10
Viral Hit has a good cast, each character gets their time to shine and their developments are interesting. Every character is unique and they have their own flaws, they feel like real people. Even though this is my favorite webtoon some characters get really annoying (mainly because of repeated inner jokes) and the female cast seem outshined by the male cast, i hope they get more interesting roles in the future.
Enjoyment – 10/10
It’s truly entertaining, i never got bored while reading it. I think the earlier chapters might be hard for some of you to get through but trust me it gets 10 times better and it’s worth the read.
Overall – 10/10
There are fan translations online but it’s available on official webtoon app too so don’t forget to support the authors by reading there. (Personally i recommend reading ~ 35 chapters on webtoon app and switching to the fan translations, localization kinda kills the spirit.)
If you read this Manhwa because you find the title was "How To Fight" instead of "Viral Hit", there are probably things that you would expect: - You expect this to be about how the MC realistically fights and defeat most martial artists or combat athletes and their specific styles despite being basically a regular guy, and happens to record it on a popular internet platform for nothing but money. - You expect this to be about the MC's life in Newtube, which is heavily inspired by the real life popular internet platform, YouTube, as a Newtuber with How To Fight as his contents. Then be prepared thatyou will literally have neither of them, especially the former.
A little spoiler without actually spoiling: up until the MC fought a crime group leader who happens to be a wrestler (most likely Greco-Roman, but could also be a pro, scripted entertainment, wrestler) while broadcasting it live with the title: How to Fight a Wrestler, the MC is no longer a regular guy, but a guy that could believably fight. Funnily enough, months before this fight, he fought an MMA fighter (for a silly reason, but still a fight, with any ways to win permissible for both sides) and somehow won while still being a regular guy. Of course, it was broadcasted live, and the title of the MC's video? Iirc, it was How To Win Any Fight. Why not use the same tricks against the crime group leader when the MC is no longer a regular guy?
You will also not have what you expect about Newtube, either. After fighting the crime group leader, it is barely about Newtube. The plot shifted into tracking the crime group leader, and even the MC got sidelined at one point by an eye candy character for female that happens to know how to handle himself well in a fight.
On the other hand, if you know this Manhwa by the name of "Viral Hit", you would likely not have those expectations.
The art is simply mesmerizing, and the humors and the character interactions would likely make you entertained. If you enjoy reading the likes of Lookism, Loser Life, or Manager Kim, you would probably (and likely) enjoy it even more, especially if you fancy an eye candy character for female that I personally find cringe since day one no matter the flashback.
Otherwise, just drop it, either after reading some of it, or not reading it entirely from chapter 1.
If you decide to read the manwa you will not only see a super cool and trilling very cool and full of awsome moments and pute 10/10 actions but you will also see the developmente of one of the best if not the best group of charcters that i ever seen , from Hobin to every member of the crew they are just so unique and cool and they really grow in your heart like every chacter is just perfect , the villains are just amazing as weel it is just a pure masterpice there are some moments in the beggining that ae abit cringy biut they are short and dont stop reading because you fell like hobin was being cringe at those moments because you will regret it , teh story is just 10/10 amazing charcters from main characters to villains and even some side charcters are cool and this just melted my heart , im actualy sad that it is over but i serously recomend it it is just amazing.
At first when I saw the cover in webtoon, I thought it might be a great read and guess what? I was right! I LOVED the main character and how the story progressed. The main character at first is some wimpy kid who kids bullied for fun, but after reading on and on I gradually realised that the wimpy kid becomes greater and greater and becomes a stronger and a better person. I loved his development in this story. Now if we're talking about the side characters, well to be one thing for sure... They are spectacular! Everything in this series is well written and well drawn asexpected from the creator of "LOOKISM"
Well that's my review I hope you liked it!
p.s please read it.
p.s.s read it
fantastic. great growth narrative. extremely fun and distinct cast of characters. it really is in all the side characters where this story shines- it's a classic beat them in a fight and now they're you're friend. all the female characters are sex objects, especially bomi, but i am willing to overlook it because they're fun outside of being a sex object. hobin is a really lovable protagonist, his greed just make him more relatable. everything is really satisfying and wrapped up well. just a really fun read, really well done, and again, fantastic characters, each with an interesting character arc and motivation that play offeach other well. the characters are really where the story shines. art is good as well.
The story is good but at start was kinda hard for me to read. I Didn’t like the mc because he was really annoying and did lot of dumb things but the more you read the better the story gets and also the mc because likeable. Right now I am around chapter 116 and this ark that we are in right is the best ark in my opinion [spoiler!] Him trying to expose a yakuza leader that committed lots of horrible crimes and also the government that is helping him. Mc so close but the government stopped his account so he couldn't post it. Most ofthe people his group is some he faut like taehoon he is pro taekwondo fighter or wangguk who went prison learned boxing there.
They are really good characters and they are more of them but these two are are my favorite ones and I don't have a character that I dislike now, first was mc now I kinda like him maybe there will some I will hate it future.
The story for me is 8/10
The art in this webtoon/manhwa is freaking amazing you will just stare at it for a while for how good it is
10/10 art.
Viral hit is one of my faborite webtoon, i read it 'cause it's from the same author of Lookism which is also amazing. The art 10/10 (BOOM) The art which is amazing and unique, it's the first time where i see this kind of style and i also like the color which is clear. In some images we have the light on the character which make it more handsome. Also in the fight, i understand all the moves due to the art and the detail which is not the case in other webtoon/manga. The characters 9/10 (let's go baby) I appreciate the characters, their personnality (snappers : always readyto film, Hobin : money lover, gaeul the yellow chick : talking like an old man, the chicken : is badass) and their design. I also like the background of some of them which explain why they act like this, I' thinking about Bomi (why she's working in the fast food with Hobin), Seongjoon (why he wanted to go to politics and make more money) and Taehoon (why is he acting like he is with Hobin), ... Moreover i find the female character so cuuuute UwU like Gaeul (the yellow chick), Bomi of course and Rumi : the 3 goddess.
The fight 9/10 (yoooo)
What i like in fights is when we use the brain and in Viral Hit this is the case. I like when we have a parallel between the fight and an explanation such as the chicken explaining the move making often a twist in the fight like the fight between Hobin and the Fake Hobin.
I think that's all so i give it a 9/10.
"Viral Hit" is a South Korean manhwa (comic) series written and illustrated by Park Ji-hyun. The story follows the life of a high school student named Jihoon Lee, who becomes a viral sensation overnight after uploading a video of himself singing to social media. The series explores the highs and lows of internet fame, as well as the impact it has on Jihoon's personal relationships and mental health. The artwork in "Viral Hit" is eye-catching, with vibrant colors and dynamic panel layouts that keep the story flowing smoothly. The character designs are also distinct, making it easy to tell the characters apart and recognize them evenin different contexts.
One of the strengths of "Viral Hit" is its exploration of the dark side of internet fame. The series portrays the obsessive and often toxic nature of online fandoms, as well as the pressure that comes with constantly having to maintain a public persona. It also tackles issues such as cyberbullying and mental health in a sensitive and nuanced way, showing the real-world consequences of online actions.
The character development in "Viral Hit" is also noteworthy. Jihoon's growth as a character is gradual but meaningful, as he learns to navigate the pitfalls of internet fame and come to terms with his own vulnerabilities. The supporting characters are also well-developed, with their own distinct personalities and motivations that make them feel like real people.
One potential downside of "Viral Hit" is its slow pacing, particularly in the early chapters. Some readers may find the buildup to Jihoon's viral success to be too drawn-out, and the series can feel a bit repetitive at times.
Overall, "Viral Hit" is a compelling manhwa series that offers a thought-provoking look at the impact of internet fame on young people. Its vibrant artwork, well-developed characters, and exploration of complex themes make it a standout in the genre.
Holy shit?! This is the first Weeb Toon that I'm reading, also the first manga that im reading without watching the anime before / continuing from the point the anime ended. Plot: a very interesting story about a high schooler being bullied by a viral idiot "nutuber". one of the idiot's friends became his friend, and they called out online the bully while he was streaming, the main character, Hobin, tried to learn how to fight people while he was amature with no previous training. my guy learned how to fight from a guy who wears a chicken mask. Character Development: as the story goes on andon my guy grew up, he met people, made friends with his enemies and became a well known "Nutuber" and went viral. from a greedy guy who only cared about money he became a person which the only things that mattered to him were his friends and family.
each of the characters on this web toon went through drastic changes, their pasts were well written and showed us the reason why and how they became who they were before and after meeting Hobin.
I really like this, I read it in 4 days and became addicted.
Looking forward to see what comes next!
if you liked when Lookism turned into a full-on martial arts comic, you should like most of Park Taejoon's other works, Viral Hit, also known as How To Fight is one of those works, it's an action manhwa with a really interesting plot. It's about a Yoo Hobin, a weak and scrawny kid learning techniques from NewTube (YouTube basically) on how to fight, the name of these videos are also the title of the manhwa; How To Fight. He becomes a NewTuber with content exposing and also literally fighting bullies, delinquents, and also shady people doing criminal activities, the way the story goes just seems sointeresting and unpredictable, something unexpected usually happens, sometimes out of nowhere, and it never feels forced for me, it's usually awesome. This manhwa is just entertaining and the story always leaves me wondering what's next, it's not some narrative or artistic masterpiece, but it doesn't have to be, because in the end of the day, we don't care if we are surrounded by the greatest works of art and literature, many of us just want a good time, and although I won't guarantee this manhwa is for you, I'm willing to say there's a good chance you will enjoy it
Highly recommend reading Viral Hit. There are so many call backs to stuff pointed out in the beginning that come later. The main cast are likeable, have a pretty deep backstory for some of them. The antagonists are done pretty well too, especially the final one. You could argue for that character I'm bringing up could of probably been dealt with earlier in the story but once everything was concluded it was worth reading. Watching as Hobin develop mentally and physically (of course) was done pretty well. If you also have the time for it. I highly recommend reading Juvenile Offender. It's pretty similarto Viral Hit but a bit more off the deep end and is written pretty well.
If you've ever wanted to see kids getting bullied for Youtube clicks then this is your story. All the characters in this are absolute miserable scum. MC is a pathetic loser beyond anything you can imagine. MC cries walking down the street. MC cries buying new clothes. MC cries talking to girls. I've never seen anything like this before. At first I thought this was some kind of underdog story, but the MC is so cringe and unlikable you can't root for him. They took every bulling trope and every pathetic MC trope and just mashed them into one horrible mess of a comic. Evenwhen the evil kids get beat up you will feel nothing because everyone in this entire comic is evil.
