Reviews for Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp

Just gonna start off and say I absolutely love this series. It's your typical girl who gets reincarnated to redo her life and change her fate. It's a bit more interesting in this case though as she gets reincarnated to the present day then reincarnated back into her original life. However, the fantasy setting in this is pretty unique as they've merged modern-day stuff into the medieval fantasy era. Like they have surgical equipment and trains but still, use swords and magic. Its a pretty refreshing setting if you're tired of the usual stuff. As for the romance, it takes a bit to get going butonce it starts it was just smooth sailing of adorable moments and shippable couple paradise.

Absolutely love Lise the MC. She's cute, beautiful, respectable, and just a generally really nice character. It's great seeing her do doctor stuff and get praised for it. Admittedly it's a bit mary sue-ish as she rarely ever fails but I still really enjoyed it as it's fun to see what happens.

Now, I just finished this manhwa at the time of writing this, and DAMN THE ENDING IS GOOD!!!!!! It's an extremely satisfying ending that plays on the themes of the series and provides a satisfying conclusion to the main conflict towards the end of the series.

Highly recommend this series for someone who likes romance manhwa and wants something a little different from the norm while also satisfying that same itch.

The Series is about Elise, who gets reincarnated with her memories intact. Twice. Originally a bitchy type character who gets burned at a stake reincarnates into the future. Realizing that her actions in the past made her you know a total bitch she decides to pursue medicine this time. To save the lives that she couldn't save before. Now she has become a successful Doctor in this time. But when going on a plane it crashes or whatever and she has been transported back into her own life. So 2nd time she's been reincarnated. 3rd time she's reliving her life. Now determined to not bethe bitch. She's gonna live her life properly this time.

The series has a big Vanderohe's saw problem. To those who have seen Army of Dead know what I'm talking about. It's the opposite of Chekhov's gun trope. They keep teasing stuff but never pay it off. Some examples include the Love Triangle between 2 people but 3 characters. The vague ass powers the male lead has. The bad guy promising to commit revenge. Her parents in the modern world. And various other shit. Why did the male lead Execute her? And all that other shit.

They also keep mentioning how bad and horrible of a women she was. But literally I can only recall one actual bad thing she did. Majority of it was elementary school bullying. like Putting a frog on someone's lap, Making shit tea. Ruining someone's clothes. These are bad things yeh. But like Execution worthy? Come on.... Again the only thing that is literally implied not even properly shown is that she is hurting someone's father right in front of his daughter. But like we don't see anything. Its very short. Cuz we had more depth to what she actually did that might add some depth to the character. Add a whole new dynamic. But that requires actual skill and talent to pull off, so instead the author is gonna go the easy route and just skip all the bad shit and skip the redemption arc and just make her into a sympathetic character that is capable of holding her own webtoon series.

Another Issue I have is that the Doctor Moments are very boring. The main theme is her becoming one of a kind Doctor. The best of the best. But she goes through no trials. Not even the classic, *she's just a women type*. I mean I'm glad thats the case It would be boring and Ultra predictable instead of the super predictable it is now. Regardless she doesn't go through that much pain and punishment. She's just done it all already. They are a total of 4 surgery that are actually exciting. 1 of them had big potential drama to it. But you know the author is a pussy there is a perfect solution for every scenario.

There is some action in this series as well. But I found the more anti-climatic moments to be more hilarious tbh. Like in one scene the male lead gives the female lead a gun and so he can duel a guy she shoots him lmao. That was funny. Sadly they aren't that many scenes in the manhwa. MMC's power's are also very vague and are literally there to be plot convivence. Oh you are stuck in an incredibly specific situation? Don't worry the powers that the male lead has that is never explained will fix it all.

The setting is also a bit confusing, but I'm willing to forgo that since the inclusion of magic and what not (or really advanced technology. Like I said powers are vague as fuck).

In the end the series is disappointing. I was told to not give up on Isekai/Villainess series If I read this series since it isn't the best. It is however still disappointing.

I will talk about some of the things I did like the main romance between the male lead and female lead. However there was 90 chapters of filler in there for no apparent reason. So... Whatever I guess.

In the end should you read the series. Well Its not bad. The art is nice I liked the dress designs, and I like how the abs of the male lead point to his penis. that's what it felt like Every time he had a shirtless scene.

Overall. Its ok. That's about it. 5/10

Hmmm... To start with, it kinda drags on a little from the latter half of the series, but the beginning and the end are really good. The story isn't unique in any way, but it's decent enough to hook you in. Though there are some choices that will make you say "bruh", it is still overall good. Oh, I like to add that Elise is barely hanging to that line of being a "Mary Sue" because there are some scenes that lack tension and scenes that are supposed to be serious and life-threatening, but it doesn't feel that way cause of her. The characters are good forthe most part. They are decent overall. The side characters aren't really good in any way, but they do their part well. There are characters that are supposed to develop, but since they were taken off the story for the main characters, their development was done off-screen. There are also a lot of one-dimensional characters since they didn't have any time to develop.

The art is great. It's one of the high points of this manwha. There are times where it's inconsistent, but when it's consistent, it's fucking great. Like, wallpaper-worthy even.

The enjoyment factor here is low. A lot of the scenes lack tension and serious moments don't appear as serious because of Elise herself. It's not like she's not a serious character. But like I said, she's a borderline "Mary Sue" which lessens the impact and tension of some of the moments.

Overall, it's a great series to binge-read just to enjoy the art. Just turn off your brain while reading this and you'll surely enjoy it.

Doctor Elise doesn't shine for its originality, nor for its drawings, but the story is pleasant enough to keep you going for around a hundred chapters. It's an easy read, the characters are interesting and following their story is quite nice, but you do have to admit that you eventually get bored. The last 40 chapters were particularly hard to follow. First of all, Elise has been slowly but surely building up a harem of men (they all fall in love with her for the most insipid and idiotic of reasons, and that's something that's gettingon my nerves more and more) but then it's one clichéd drama after another. Of course, all the problems are solved by Elise saving the life of someone important, who then does her a favour that solves the problem in the first place. First time, fine. Second time, fine. Third time, that's starting to be a lot. But all the other times? No, thanks. Honestly, over 100 chapters is far too much and towards the end reading the chapters was more of a chore than anything else.

Doctor Elise ne brille pas par son originalité, ni par ses dessins, mais l'histoire est suffisamment agréable à suivre pour vous porter sur une centaine de chapitres environ. On le lit facilement, les personnages sont intéressants et suivre leur histoire est loin d'être insupportable, mais il faut s'avouer qu'on finit par se lasser. Les 40 derniers chapitres ont été particulièrement difficiles à suivre. Déjà, depuis assez tôt, Elise se constitue lentement mais sûrement un harem d'hommes (tous tombent amoureux d'elle pour les raisons les plus insipides et idiotes et c'est bien quelque chose qui m'énerve de plus en plus) mais ensuite on enchaîne les drama clichés un par un. Evidemment tous les problèmes se résolvent par Elise qui va sauver la vie de quelqu'un d'important en l'opérant et ce dernier va lui accorder une faveur qui va résoudre le problème du départ. La première fois, d'accord. Deuxième fois, je veux bien. Troisième fois, ça commence à faire beaucoup. Mais toutes les autres fois ? Non merci... Honnêtement plus de 100 chapitres c'est beaucoup trop et vers la fin lire les chapitres était plus une corvée qu'autre chose.

Although I am now ashamed to admit it, After my first several bad experiences I ceased to give any Manhwa, regardless of its fanfare or reviews a fair shake... The few titles I had read had shoddy line-work, atrocious writing, and deplorably awful tropes that had me fleeing like a chimpanzee on fire from from the circus after the third chapter. In retrospect, those initial offerings were so abhorrent I can't even remember their names as to properly trash-talk them. Chalk it up to bad memories OR most likely, a defense mechanism erected by my tortured mind and it's last, noble brain-cells attempting to scrub the experienceof subjecting myself to that tripe out of my mind. I'll miss those brave and valiant cellular gray-matter-warriors. they served well and they fell in battle for a greater good. So even if the names of the worst Manhwa ever written is lost to me... the names of those brain-cells remains.

*Ahem* anyways... So I don't know what made me pick up 'Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp'. Perhaps I didn't recognize the Manhwa tag and simple mistook it for a Manga. Maybe the moon the was aligned just right in the star-littered sky... but whatever it was I'm thankful for that nigh impossible divine intervention.

... Because despite the worst experiences I'd ever had with ANY drawn-media having been found within the pages of a Manhwa, About ten chapters into 'Doctor Elise' I realized both that I was in fact, reading a Manhwa, AND experiencing some of the BEST storytelling I'd ever experienced from Drawn-Media.

I quickly read it to completion without stopping. It took around 6 hours to absorb the entirety of it, but afterwards I was awash in silence and introspection on a story which had taken me through an entire gamut of human emotion. Happiness, Sadness, tense moments, and relaxing character progression. It was a phenomenal read.

So... Despite this being the first Manhwa I not only liked... but ADORED... I don't feel the need to spoil anything for people who may be reading this review. I don't want to talk about the story itself or the characters. Nor do I want to praise 'Doctor Elise' for any of it's various and wonderful moments.

Many people in their reviews, segment specific areas like storytelling, art, how well it confines itself to its genre, pacing, etc and so on. For me... that is not needed. All I believe you need to know going into this is the following...

'Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp' is an Amazing rollercoaster of Art and Storytelling which pulls off being both comfy/familiar and Exciting/tense due to its magnificent pacing, character studies, and reliance on a course-corrected 'heroes journey' story-archetype. You should just read it. Sincerely, JUST. READ. IT.

My favorite genres/sub-genres tend to be Josei, Seinen, and Isekai. This Manhwa has aspects of all three interwoven, and it does it flawlessly.

It has my highest recommendation for an introduction to Manhwa, and as I've re-read it multiple times after I've read other brilliant Manhwa (Due to this title opening my eyes), I would argue that it is suitable for people more experienced in the medium as well.

I understand that this isn't a structured review, but I believe my experience with this title should be enough to sing its praises.

This manhwa was one of the first in the otome isekai genre I ever read, and I have to say it is a very good entry point into the genre. I followed this story from the beginning to end and when it finally ended, I was fully satisfied, and it felt complete. I will say the story does not challenge the reader very much and was more akin to a safe ride in a car your parents are driving while you doze off in the back. When the tensions were supposed to be high there was always the feeling that Elise would pull through no matterwhat BUT, and this is a big but, I genuinely did not know what direction the ending would go for and I was pleasantly surprised at how sucked in and invested I got by the climax despite knowing how they had overcome everything up until that point.

The romance is a bit...subpar? But when it finally gets going you cannot help but coo at how adorable Elise is with her ML.

Overall, I can highly recommend this to anyone curious about the genre or if you are a veteran and have not read this yet, somehow, I would still say read it despite it not really bringing anything new to the table. But in that sense, its also exactly what you want.

Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp is a stereotypical shojo manhwa for me. It is obviously targetted at young teenage girls looking to read about fiction. Although I enjoyed the storyline, it felt basic in my opinion. There was no real conflict in the story, as the main character, Elise, would always have a solution for everything. However, if you are looking to burn some time reading something new, especially in the otome isekai areas, this one is worth a read. The manhwa uses unconventional topics such as surgury and other medical related things to make it a more unique series. I rate itan 8/10.

Art Style: ugly and inconsistent, specially when it comes to faces and ears, I laughted so many times because of it. Story: really boring, gets political sometimes, which it's not my cup of tea. Also has too many technical stuff when it comes to medicine (I know the female lead it's a doctor, but I found it really boring) Female Lead: she is a genius and I don't really like this time of characters because I prefer to see hard work and growth Male Lead: Sooooo boring Other Characters: I mostly forgot everyone Romance: really boringing Final thoughts: I know I repeated "boring" too many times, but it summarized myfeelings while reading it. Overall do not recommend it, unless you want something completed and simple
