Reviews for Tomb Raider King
Back to MangaThe story starts out as being pretty enjoyable for the first handful of chapters but it soon regresses into a repetitive drag. It is very hard to root for an MC that seems to be unnecessarily asshole-ish to everyone. The side characters might as well not exist and they do absolutely nothing to further the plot- which is already extremely convoluted in and of itself. The art is good but nothing special. Which is something can be said about the entire manga itself- a fair way to pass your time but do not expect to be blown away by it's story and character depth.
I really don't understand why this is getting such low reviews. It's a unique spin on the whole "dungeons invade earth" trope that Manhwa writers really seem to like. The main complaint I see is the MC's treatment of his employees, which I do agree is a bit uncalled for, but if you actually read a bit further, you can see he really does care about them. The harsh treatment is a result of his experiences with his comrades' betrayal before his regression, and it is evident in his personality. Another reason for his behaivior is that he cannot show any weakness to his relics.I also really like the fact that the depiction of the world's hierarchy is probably the most accurate of any dungeon manhwa. People are not going to line up into neat little guilds and share the responsibility, most likely, there will be a large monopoly by one group with others struggling to take hold and eventually getting swallowed up by said monopoly. The worldbuilding is very good, the comedy is also very enjoyable, and the plot points make a decent amount of sense. Overall, if you are going to read this, please make sure to actually read and not just blindly follow the reviews.
Art: Standard art, more saturated than 2015 romantic comedy art, there's nothing new or special about the style, it's just the standard manhwa art. Story: kind of a big mess, it's practically a piece of abstract modern art. The way the author wrote this is criminal, things just suddenly happen for no reason, it changes focus a lot and none of the changes are smooth, but in the story there is also the biggest flaw in this manhwa, the endless and unsufferable nothingness of the plot, everything is dragged out too much almost like it was testing my willpower to continue, there's just so much unnecessarystuff there, it's absolutely possible to cut around 150 of the chapters easily without changing one bit of the main plot.
Characters: no relic is interesting character wise, there is the fire madman, the 3 dogs and around 7000 objects that speak, of all of them only the crow, the rope and the worm have a some sort of a personality, maybe I'm even forcing a little saying that the rope is interesting, because it's only character trait is being affixed to the protagonist, and nothing else, but it is what it is, the worm is the only comic relief that is even remotely decent in the manhwa, dont't get me wrong, the worm's comedy scenes are never funny, but i didn't feel any pain while reading through them, the crow is the only interesting character in the story, it has a concrete objective, a backstory, a personality, is it just another animal that turns into a hot woman? Yes, but again, it is what it is, at least she has a certain level of development. I'm not going to talk about any antagonist/villain because they are all completely disposable, and are turned into shitty comic relief whenever possible to take away all of the possible seriousness that the manhwa could have, and all for 3 scenes of Adam Saddler levels of comedy.
Fights: I honestly think that none of the 1v1s were good, there are some tedious fights that hurt your soul, even when the gods start beating the living shit out of each other, it's boring because it has no impact. There is also the "Madara Effect" in this manhwa, the protagonist is so stupidly strong that when he loses a fight It's just because the author pulled something out of his anal cavities to provide some challenge, but it's too forced and very poorly done, all the fights look like turn-based RPG combat, hit, hit, hit, say something stupid, hit and repeat.
Romance: non-existent, which is actually unbelievable. In 412 chapters of story, literally the size of Berserk, the author was simply unable to make the romantic progress have even a slim of smoothness, the progress of the romance is: they meet, and literally a post-sex scene, alone, with no change in attitude, neither a change on they're relationship, nothing. It also doesn't help that the main heroine is as interesting as a doorframe, she's literally just there to be the dumbass that the protagonist sometimes has sex with.
Positive points of the manga: very rarely it does have a good fight or an slightly interesting dialogue sequence, maybe some okay comedy too but i don't really remember seeing any.
Final considerations: none.
Definitely not worth the time to read, dear God.
Bad and on top of that a massive waste of time 2/10.
Tomb Raider King has always been enjoyable, from its characters and the comedy to some of the action scenes in this manga. The art is consistently nice to look at as well. However, while it's enjoyable, it does have it's flaws. Constant complaints about the author abandoning powers after just recently introducing them, repetitive villains that keep coming back and sometimes a lack of drive. Regardless, it's great to see characters interact with their companions and seeing some parts of history being explained and imagined in the way of the relic. Overall, the focus was never the story or super in-depth characters, but more of the experience ofseeing how someone can use mythology to make creative powers and to root for our protagonist to gain more powers.
Enjoyable, but has its boring moments.
Good story, quality art and drawing, good characters and a very good use of everything that has to do with mythology and religion. The story is very interesting, it has more than 300 chapters (up to the date of this review) and the action and history are not lacking. This manhwa is as good as his novel and I can only say that the grade it has in MAL is not deserved. If you don't believe me don't judge by this review or the others, go and read only 10 chapters and then decide whether to continue reading it or not.
Sad attempt at making a badass character. Making your character a BAD guy and an ASS doesn't make him badass. That just makes him annoying. The MC is rude and mean to people for no reason and treats people that were his friends in his recent life like shit. I understand that he is a bit blinded for revenge but dude only like 3 people made your life shit don't go around killing and beating up people because now you're strong. The MC also doesn't have a clear goal, he wants relics and a bit of revenge but nothing is clear and it takes ahuge amount of chapters before we can somehow guess what he wants to do.
The only thing that keeps me going is the fact that the relics and their powers are linked to real life legends. That makes it somehow interesting even though the whole thing is a ripoff of Solo Leveling.
Tomb Raider King is an outstanding manhwa that features an engaging plot and excellent character development. It is an adaptation of the popular Korean web novel of the same name, and the manhwa perfectly captures the thrilling and action-packed nature of the original story. The plot of Tomb Raider King is a standout feature of the manhwa. It is full of twists and turns that keep readers hooked and invested in the story. The pacing is excellent, with a perfect balance of action, adventure, and character development. The plot also features a rich and intricate mythology that adds depth and complexity to the story. The character developmentin the manhwa is also superb. The protagonist Seo Joo-Heon,, is a well-rounded character with a compelling backstory, and the manhwa does an excellent job of fleshing out his motivations, fears, and desires. The supporting characters are also well-developed, each with their own unique personalities and quirks. The relationships between the characters are also well-crafted, providing an additional layer of depth to the story.
The art in the manhwa is fantastic, with stunning action sequences, detailed backgrounds, and expressive character designs. The visuals perfectly capture the excitement and energy of the story, making it a feast for the eyes.
Overall, Tomb Raider King is a must-read manhwa that offers great plot development, well-crafted characters, and stunning artwork. It is an exciting and action-packed adventure story that will keep readers engaged from start to finish. Whether you are a fan of the original web novel or new to the series, this manhwa is definitely worth checking out.
Great and funny manga. Recommended for anyone that likes Solo Leveling or simmillar mangas. You can learn a bit about history and items connected to it. Characters are uniquire and story is quite unpredictable. Maybe main character looks like a villiain, but he has morality and punish the bad guys. He is weak at beginning but get better as story progress. Art style is good,, many details and many relicts. Characters reacts very realisticly to situation that they are. I hope that there were some after stories or additional chapters about it. I hope that there will be more mangas like thats one. Youcan never get bored with it.
Ok, so let me write an actual review since read it this far. Many people say that mc is an asshole, well he is. but not for no reason. He treats his team, friends, and family well. Taking care of and helping them out if needed. He got betrayed in his past life (not a spoiler since it happened at the 1st chapters anyways). He helps civilians the most in Manhua compared to other parties. He hate that one guy a lot? duh.. he died coz of him, why would he not hate him for that..? Now let talk about rating ^^ Story: 10/10 Great as solo lvling, and has a long story with is great, I have more to read and it's not fillers or meaningless chapters.. let's say it's something like tower of god (a lot chapters and all have meaning)
Art: Great as solo lvling, there is nothing else to say :D special effects are great and so on.
Now for the end, highly recommend reading this masterpiece, at the start for some it might look boring, but it's the same with tower of god and so on.
The manhwa was very interesting in the beginning and its quite interesting later too but the ending which i hope is nearing is kind of going all over the place but yes... if one has a lot of time to spare its a good read and also gives a lot of information about lot of different mythologies and historic events. The MC might not be the best guy but is still ok considering his back story and it being a manhwa. The side characters also each get a back story over the time as the MC's squad grows so over all there is a nice characterdevelopment.
The story is very bad because it is boring and poorly written. All the characters are annoying and unlikable. It is very predictable because every chapter is the same thing repeated over and over again. I usually love this genre, but I do not like this manhwa. The MC acts like a criminal and doesn't seem to have human emotions. Everyone is written as if they are robots that lack empathy. There is nothing wrong with the overall plot, but it is so poorly implemented that I could never recommend something this bad. Everything that happens in this series has been done before and muchbetter. I read a lot of manhwa and this is by far the worst I've read. I do not think others will enjoy this series because it is so bad.
The MC is the typical smirking arrogant dude, who looks EXACTLY like ANY of the hundreds of smirking MC from REDICE, YLAB and many other studios. He has no values, no ethics, no emotional intelligence, no gentleness. He's egoistic to the bone. I really don't mind and I actually prefer ruthless, brutal, amoral MCs. But amoral doesn't mean immoral. Contrarily to other revenge oriented MCs from other regression stories, he doesn't have a reasonable goal of asserting his dominance over a certain group of people who did him harm in the past. This subhuman piece of trash doesn't differentiate between friends and foes, nor does he distinguish malicious foesfrom neutral rivals.
He wants COMPLETE monopoly over ALL relics, and he sees as rival ANYBODY who wants ANY relic.
He's ready to scam and rob even the most innocent and harmless people to get what he wants.
I don't like him in the slightest.
Even the relationship with his "friends" is shit. He has actually no real friends.
Sure, he cares a bit about people WHO FOLLOW HIM, as long as they follow him. He does NOT care about them as people, but as followers. He's a narcissistic sociopath piece of shit.
Unfortunately the 99% of characters are ALL extremely unlikeable. Specially the recurrent ones.
They're either psychopaths, or pushovers, or annoying in some way.
There is not ONE single even slightly likeable character.
Other than that, the amount of plot holes, plot contrivance, inconsistencies and nonsense in just only the first 20 chaps is so extreme that I am not sure we can call this "plot" anymore. It feels like the writer had a general concept and started patching stuff around that concept with little to none attention to detail, to coherence and to plausibility. Just rough and ready.
I've reached 100 chaps and I have NEVER, not fucking ONCE felt the slightest excitement or "wow, nice!".
It's just a MEGA BORING sequel of tomb x appears, psychopath relic does shit x, MC does shit x, rival does shit x.
The SAME villains are recycled FORFUCKINGEVER, he lets them escape (or the writer gives them plot armor so he can stretch the plot).
Of all his talk of revenge, despite the MANY chances he already had, in more than 100 chapters there was NO TRACE.
I have no idea why shit like this gets 400+ chapters, or such a high rating.
Imo it's a BARELY mediocre story, probably written by a 20 y/o neet loser.
There is a piece of writing advice often given to new writers: "If this is not the most exciting time in your characters life, why are you not showing us that part?" and I feel this is a piece of advice Tomb Raider King has taken too closely to heart. During arks, you have a build up of tension, a climactic event, and then a relaxing period where the aftershocks are defined and begin to be dealt with. The problem TRK has, is that after a while there's no relaxing periods anymore. It runs from one thing to another with reckless abandon, and while yes what'sgoing on is interesting and eventful and fun, the breakneck pace of this manhwa means you just cannot catch your breath as a reader.
Those relaxing periods give the reader a natural dropping off point to stop for the session, and TRK, especially in the later stages, just does not have enough of them, and it's a major detriment.
The story and premise are both very interesting, the idea of relics being created through stories and thus having their own personality and goals in accordance with those tales is such a unique idea. The relics themselves are diverse and interesting, with relics from every culture being represented, some well known, some niche, and they do much to define them by rank and type, grounding the concept into a system the reader can understand.
However there's a few things they bring up that either never go anywhere, or just get dropped. The most egregious of this is evolution, which only happens to one relic (albeit a relic I adore and was happy to see it happen to) but the idea of evolution is mentioned, described, and then it never happens to anyone outside this one relic. It very much feels like the author wanted this relic to be special, and so came up with a way of allowing it to be, that ultimately made every other relic feel shallower due to them not getting the same level of attention.
The characters are also nothing new, but the tropes and ideas they bring forth originally slowly get explained and expanded on over time, which is always nice to see. Too many authors just slap together some tropes without thought to how those tropes are informed and inform backstory and personality, so it's a welcome depth to characters that might otherwise become stale. However outside of the MC whose head we mostly exist within, a few antagonists, and maybe Jaeha, this expansion happens too quickly for my liking, with characters being introduced, expanded upon, then fading into the background after a while. The main group often becomes simple bodies to throw at enemies, existing to defeat the fodder opponents the MCs come across or use their main skill to assist in the goal, often without much dialogue expanding on their feelings on the current situation. I feel that they could be expanded a lot more than they were, but the arks focus very much on the Jooheon/Jaeha dynamic with occasional interruptions to show off new relics they acquire.
Antagonists suffer from this the worst though. Several antagonists are built up massively, only to fall relatively simply. The worst example of this occurs during the later stages, where a main antagonist is killed off with about a hundred chapters to go, leaving what honestly feels like easy jobber villains to fill the space. Some like Chaewon and Taejoon at least put up a major fight, pushing the protagonists to become more skilled and stronger combatants, but there's none that push them to change as people.
Which is honestly the ultimate failing of the story as a whole. The characters for the most part all come into the story fully formed, and the only real characters moments we get are points explaining why they are like they are, some annoyingly quickly moved on from. Even Jooheon really only grows in power through the story, never really growing as a person, and his personality while fun to read is *horrific*! He's a selfish, entitled prick and while yes it's fun to see him get one over on people and yes his attitude is somewhat explained, it's frustrating to see him deal so callously with the people who supported and helped him through the journey. There's so few moments of softness or genuine caring in the series as a whole, and outside him screaming he'll kill anyone who hurts the people set up to be his friends Jooheon himself has almost none.
The plotlines (which I don't wish to spoil) are interesting, with genuine thought put into where it goes and the antagonists motivations (mostly), as well as how they fit into the world and situations as a whole, however that and the premise itself are TRKs main strengths, and that's sort of sad.
If you focus on the plotline and worldbuilding, then this is a phenomenal series with a lot to offer. If you're here for character arks and seeing the protagonists grow as people then you will be sorely disappointed. It is a solid 9/10 story held back by who we have to experience the story through, and the lack of any desire to have anyone grow as people from the situations they are forced into.
One of the first things I noticed was that the main character is a villain (I can't think of another term, just being polite). Indeed, he does not hesitate to betray everyone - while imposing unfair contracts on his friends -, as when he promises Keira to free her but throws her into the fire instead after receiving the information. He always manages to blame his faults on others, without wondering what the consequences will be. You should also know that Seo Joo-Heon is only motivated by his revenge and his greed. Everything he does is either to get revenge on TKBM and Pandora or toget more relics or money. And even when he does a good deed, it is also in his own interest: avenging his sister to destroy Pandora, burying Majesty to free the throne. For a long time, he refused to restore Julian's memory just because he blamed him for his errors and mistakes.
We also find (too) many inconsistencies. Like the presence of Louis Martin in this dimension, while few characters – and especially not Pandora – know that the Crow sent Seo Juheon back to the past. There's also TKBM who could send Joo-Heon to prison (and many times), but gets humiliated like a Looney Tunes villain.
Combining everything that has already been said, nothing gives me the impression of weakness in the characters or even danger, and so I am rarely invested in their adventures. Indeed, Juheon is far too powerful – he can summon three deities without problems, while it is supposedly difficult to summon just one – and always succeeds in what he does.
Events follow one another, without much impact on each other. This is for example the case for the 7 major tombs which could have been done in any order (with a few details).
Yet, despite the rather basic graphic style, I still remained intrigued enough to continue reading. I managed to get attached to certain characters, and the humor is quite funny (especially coming from the relics).
It would be absurd to deny the comparisons with Solo Leveling, but I strongly doubt that this is plagiarism – the publication dates are too close together.
Initially, I had high hopes for this one because: 1) The manhwa was drawn by Redice (so at least i won't be disappointed by the art), 2) There are plenty of chapters, so I thought I'd enjoy reading through it in one go, 3) It's a finished/completed manhwa, so I don't have to come back to finish reading it later. But man, it became extremely repetitive. It is established straight from Chapter 1 that the "main" antagonist is the CEO of a big corporation - I get it, corpo evil, but also super rich, but it was almost as if that company had 9 lives. Ittook 100+ chapters to make a significant negative impact on them, and even now at Chapter 257 (where I decided to drop it) the company's people STILL exist.
The MC is a generic copy of Sung Jin-woo (Solo Leveling), and his teammates are very hyped up as he gathers them like Pokemon, but in the end, they are just useless pawns. None of them have an impact on the story anymore.
Extremely disappointing.
Tomb Raider King offers an uniteresting aproach to the power system of webtoons with its new relics which are basicly items with peronalities, the reggresor part of it starts to fall off after a while and the story drags on for too long. The art is decent and its not a bad read. The characters were well written all with their uniqe personalities but were often forgotten or just used as comic relief,.It has been a few months since i have read this so my memory is not up to date but the villans were kinda bland to be honest and the often resuferd again aftera while witouth any obvius power up just beacues i guess the story needed to continue?
Tomb Raider King is in my opinion an amazing manhwa that just absorbs me in but if we're talking about the general story at hand, then it's pretty boring. The mc Seo Joo Heon is not even a badass is he's just ass. The plot tends to be repetitive and the antagonists barely ever change which doesn't really give the story much of a chance to expand its plot. The only thing that's interesting about it is the creative use of relics and their mythological and historical origins and how they can turn them into items with cool ooga booga power items
I cannot express enough just how deeply I disliked this book. From the very first chapter, it was a frustrating experience. Every single part of it felt like a chore to get through, and the more I read, the less I wanted to continue. Eventually, I just gave up because I realised I was forcing myself to turn the pages without any real interest or enjoyment. There is nothing in this story that I would consider worthwhile or memorable. The plot was dull and uninspired, and the pacing made it feel like an endless drag. The characters were another major disappointment. Not a single onefelt real, engaging, or even remotely likeable. They were either flat, annoying, or lacked any clear purpose, and I couldn’t connect with any of them emotionally. It felt as though the writer didn’t care about developing them in a way that would make readers care either. As the story went on, I found myself actively resenting the mc.
I also strongly disliked the ideas and themes the writer was trying to push. They felt forced, shallow, and sometimes even irritating. The direction the writer chose to take with the story was confusing and unpleasant, and it left me wondering why I had even bothered to pick up the book in the first place. It felt like a complete waste of time, from the concept to the execution.
In the end, I would never recommend this bs to anyone. I rarely feel this strongly about a story, but this was truly terrible. There was nothing positive to take away, and the entire experience was frustrating and disappointing. If I could give it zero stars, I would, and I will certainly steer anyone I know away from reading it.
The plot: in a world where tombs started appearing each contains a powerful relic from legends or folk stories , the main character is Joo Heon Suh a tomb explorer who got betrayed by his employer ,seeing his teammates die and when he was about to die by the hands of powerful relic , he finds himself 15 years in the past , after that he started collecting relics and planning to take revenge . The good: lemme start with this since this is my most favourite part in the manhwa the legends ,folklore and stories from different mythologies (Egyptian , Nordic and Greek)as Egyptian myself I loved that some of our mythology played big part in the manhwa .
Second is the characters I loved the way the author focused on the other characters not just the MC ,seeing their backstory ,their character development and how the MC trusted them to get the job done and how as a team they helped each other .
Third is strategy at the start of the manhwa the mc is stronger than the average person but he isn’t OP so he always used his future knowledge to make connections with famous and powerful people or he used this knowledge to defeat and con his enemies without endangering himself and his teammates.
The bad:
The manhwa was kinda repetitive at times ,like the mc used some strategies more than once and his obsession with revenge is kinda unbearable sometimes he did make bunch of risky decisions just for the sake of revenge .
Final thoughts:
I rate the manhwa 8/10 ,it has a lot of good points it was fun to read and I totally recommend it ,you would totally love it if you like reading about mythology or have interest in the matter.
here
The world building actually had potential and the power system is way more interesting that the generic stuff pumped out nowadays, there are some interesting stuff done with the manhwa especially the fact that the side characters actually get depth and development. But there are way too many things that bring the manhwa down that I cannot in good conscience say that it's good. Firstly, most of the villains are completely one dimensional and just evil for no reason. They're also quite stupid as well. Secondly, it does not feel like there is a stake for the main characters for the most part because they just breezethrough every challenge no problem.
Third, the romance in this manhwa is just atrocious, I hate the fact that main character just completely disregarded the redheaded girl, and the fact that she just allowed herself to be cucked without any real communication or discussion on the topic. The stupid relic harem is so annoying as well, it just feels like fan service for no reason.
Fourth, the fights are atrocious, there are some interesting ideas to be explored but the choreography and the ideas are so surface level it feels cheap and lazy.
Fifth, the manhwa is just not funny at all, it tries to be but it comes off very childish and immature, the reactions that the characters give are always annoying as hell.
I won't give it too low of a score because like I said, there are things that the manhwa does okay, and there was definitely potential with it, but its just bad for the most part.
