Reviews for As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I'll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World
Back to MangaThis manga is like your typical Isekai story the MC dies and is resurrected in another world. The interesting part is the MC main ability is the appraisal to see everyone stats which help him build an army of strong individuals for a upcoming war. His main concern is that he knows he not strong compare to the people he his recruiting to his army and he afraid that one day they will betray him. Overall this manga is interesting and it’s kinda different from other Isekai stories which I give it a 7 out of 10 which is not bad in my opinion. I dorecommend this if my review help in any way, all this is from what I got by reading 5 chapters.
I guess I should first start off by addressing my thoughts about this being another isekai story. Isekai stories just seem to be an easy mechanism to get the ball rolling in such stories; person dies, enters new world with new settings and things will get explained to them. In this story, someone dies (I can't even remember if they mentioned their former world name) they get reborn into an aristocrat but the special thing is that they have an 'appraisal' skill in which they can see someones stat and that is it. It seems the isekai part is really there to just give that video gamelike appraisal skill a reasonable explaination for existing. And that is it, after that the isekai aspect of the manga is completely irrelevant, it's barely mentioned about and when it does it's of no significance, it seems the isekai aspect was merely used as to hop on the bandwagon to initially get people interested at the start but is quite quickly abandoned and I feel that the manga itself was interesting enough without it being tied to the isekai genre.
There are a lot of interesting characters that are introduced through the MC's appraisal skill and you get to see them in action based on what they excel at.
If this manga caught your interest because it was an 'isekai' than I'd probably imagine you may be slightly disappointed because there is very little isekai tropes of; constantly referring back to their former world, knowledge they could use from former world to benefit them or trying to get back or the likes. There is just nothing like that, it was just helped to get the story going at the start and becomes just a regular story.
So I would suggest this manga to those who are more interested in a good story and try to ignore it being part of the isekai genre.
This manga is about a middle age man that gets reincarnated in a fantasy world, where he is born into the aristocratic house of louvent, as the heir of the tiny barony known as Lamberg. When the MC was reincarnated he was gifted with a unique skill to read other peoples current and potential stats. When you read this manga don't expect great action, sure there was action in it, but it was never the main focus, this is the type of manga thats more narrative focusing more how the MC gonna be a noble, to prepare himself as the heir of the barony. At first10 chapter++, i thought this manga's about MC going through the city then coincidentally finding hidden gems in a pile of trash. it kinda remains like that until chapter 20 where the MC meet his fiancee and it gets political beyond that.
About the characters, MC is supposed to be a 20-30 middle aged man that reincarnated as a child, but his action didn't seems to mirror that (which is better better then Rudeus that wants to rape every girl he saw), if you want to have fun reading this, its best just to assume that this is just a child with past memory not reincanated, since the author didn't even mention his reincarnated story past chapter 1. (In chp 28 MC is currently going through a chaacter growth, hopefully he can get better as a character, i'm holding this on hold cause i decided to wait for the anime to release)
For the other character, like rietz, charlotte, and others there was nothing special. One thing that irritates me is the lack of refusal by other town to rietz, in the early chapter. I get that he becomes good terms with everyone in Lamberg but not in other places. Thank goodness they fixed it by making people acknowledging his achievement and strenght.
BUT, i find it good that other one time use NPC has a good story, characters like Rosell's father, MC's fiancee, have a good backstory and deep motivation/meaning behind their words. I also noticed that some characters here rejects the usual anime tropes.

I read this manga for almost 4 years with hundreds of chapters missed, to estimate that the country's order is very neatly arranged and similar to the country's order in the real world today The development of the story could be said to be a bit slow, but that's okay as long as the characters have a storyline that isn't rushed The main character named Ars does not have full powers such as bersang or magic, but he has expertise in seeing talented people. I like this thing where the main character doesn't always need to be directly involved in battle and finish off his enemies asquickly as lightning, requiring strategy in fighting which is also a strength in itself for the main character.
I hope the story in the next volume will be sped up even more, but that doesn't mean it's rushed
Its okay-ish for binge reading, but not really worth following weekly. Plot Guy gets Isekai-ed as the first son of a baron(noble) of a small town. He has a unique skill called appraisal, where he can look at people's current stats and their potential/max stats. eg: power 14/53. The empire seems to be falling into ruin and in order to protect his people from the inevitable war, he decides to gather strong allies under him. The story is mostly him finding strong underlings and raising through the ranks of nobility using the strength of his underlings. Review One might see a very strong similarity between this MC and theMC of "How a realist hero rebuilt the strong kingdom". In my opinion, realist hero has better writing where MC doesn't have any "skill", but relies on his knowledge. Meanwhile, this isekai completely forgets the "Isekai" part after the introduction. It is just fantasy pretending to be Isekai.
Anyway, I kinda liked the peaceful vibe of the first three episodes of the anime and decided to shift to manga. I was sick and couldn't sleep. And I decided to binge this manga to distract myself. I completed 128 chapters within a single day, and it was not bad enough for me to drop it. But it wasn't exactly good either.
The MC is a "nice" guy who wants to build a world where there's no war and even the most vulnerable sections can live a decent life. The idealism kept reminding me that this is not a story for adults. MC's the kind of guy who will even forgive the enemy soldiers because they all have "families waiting for them at home". So, just keep your expectations in check.
Another shortcoming of this story has to do with war strategies. The strategies designed by these genius characters are supposed to be mind blowing, and yet, they never really feel like actual strategies. Its just the usual "Ha! I already figured out your plan and made it part of my plan.". Now, we simply go back to flashback where the countermeasure was planned. Plot armor carries them a LOT. The characters being all idealistic was already irritating. And them pretending that they are little geniuses was so obnoxious.
And finally, the concept itself is kinda.. sad?. Its one thing to know someone's current stats. But your potential is decided at your birth and then your fate is sealed. It felt really unfair. Your birth already decides your family and by extension, your status in an aristocratic society. Now, these "stats" feel like a slap in your face. If you have low potential stats, then no amount of hardwork can overcome that limit.
The MC doesn't have any OP powers except for appraisal. He is completely carried by his underlings. I don't know if its a good thing or a bad thing. On one hand, MC is not OP. OTOH, he finds OP pokemons and they will just hard carry him throughout the story. He definitely is a hardworker and a decent character, but he's not interesting at all. All he does is say completely predictable nice guy words and nothing else.
The art is good and clean.
Overall, I think this story had potential in the beginning. However, due to the limitations of writing and weekly pacing of chapters, it remains a mediocre work. You can read it, if you have nothing else to do. But I won't go out of my way to recommend this to anyone.
Another one I went into expecting isekai slop but man this is not that at all. This is basically a medieval European nation building story, with a lord pulled into conflict and war using the skills and people at their disposal to get better. And holy shit whoever is writing this is doing an amazing job. The characters are actually believable with flaws and everything. The political and tactical manoeuvres are well thought out and even though you know he has to end up winning there's so much stakes and tension It does fall into a bit of "everyone working for the MC is a good person"kinda thing, you'd expect there to be at least one or two dickheads, but I legit love all of them. And I actually remember their names which is honestly a rarity for me when reading these things
The reincarnation plotline is a bit odd though. It doesn't do much aside from explain why someone so young has the insights he does (and he ages through the series so he's not the 3 year old on the MAL picture for more than I think a volume), but so far not much has really happened with it beyond some scattered mentions
Seriously, give this one a go, it won't disappoint!
“Reincarnated as an Aristocrat with an Appraisal Skill” is effectively the story of a mediocre man who has a spidey sense for great men. I was immediately taken with the novel premise and generally competent presentation. But caveats! I can get down right autistic about certain things within my wheelhouse, differential psychology being one. The appraisal system was stimulating my ire because of this. 4 attributes (bizarre picks at that), ambition and then a small platter of traits related to combat. Hmmm… It’s works and it’s obviously a fucking manga so who really cares how much actual psychological constructs associated with individual variation in “talent”map onto the MCs appraisal table... Butttttt I can’t help myself.
The self-evident concern here is derived from the stories concept. One of the primary tropes of isekai is the overpowered, cheating protagonist. People don’t tend to be that engaged by mediocrity, and there is something particularly snivelling about someone who is amazing at sniffing out talent, but has none of it themselves. In which case, the readers prism for viewing the world becomes immediately less interesting and important than his coterie of geniuses.
This has sort of been the story so far. Our MC is likeable, charismatic and has a rather empathetic/humanitarian view of the future which has allowed him to pick up some talented vassals. But he himself has done nothing. He is protected and guided by his comrades and simply told how successful they are out on the battlefield because he can not take part. Sure, the MC is still young, but his mind and strategic chops are also completely neutered when compared to his 3rd companion, who is a year younger than him as well. What is left for our MC? Is he simply the stat checker, soon to be relegated to the shadows as a more adept leader replaces him!? So, I am going to give “Reincarnated…” a 7…
But wait, whose that on the horizon?! Blond hair, bangs and a diminutive stature? The loli Machiavelli!
The MCs fiancee is a fantastic character and has the best arc so far. She’s adorable, has some great scenes and the interaction between both her and the MC that feel sincere and cutesy. The way in which both their talents bounced off each other to inform their meeting and eventual appreciation of each other was also top tier! Fantastic stuff.
So while I do have concerns about the trajectory of this story and possibly the underlying foundation, I do think it has demonstrated that it has the capacity for greats moments and an enjoyable run. The current arc is also hinting towards the need for the MC to nurture his own ability, which he quite clearly should have given his father and siblings. I look forward to more chapters!
It's a fine Isekai if you want something to read quickly. That said, it has a fine concept in my opinion but it doesn't lean hard enough into it to be interesting. "Level 1 dakedo Unique Skill de Saikyou desu" has a similar style minor superpower that the main character uses to great and interesting value. Considering how much mary-sue wish fulfillment that manga is it's one of the few noteworthy things you can really say about it. "Sekai Saikou no Ansatsusha, Isekai Kizoku ni Tensei suru" is even closer to this in concept, (sub)genre and tone. But there the main character makes way moreuse of his Isekai power and the characterization feels stronger.
This manga has solid bones. An isekai power that has potential to be interesting without being so overpowered it's like "I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in The Real World, Too". The main character can see the character stat sheet of other people. As a kid who played games, they know what the stats mean. Still there's room for growth. The stats, we find out, don't tell the whole story. For one thing they don't tell Ars, the main character, WHY. Some of the states are genetic but some of them are personal like Ambition. Heck at one point we realize that some of the states don't necessarily mean what we think they mean. There's room to play with this skill. Room for Ars's experience to come into play. To use some sense of people to develop that parts he can't see. Or at least learn about them. But the manga doesn't really do anything with it. Heck at one point they introduce a character who they suggest has a similar power to the main character only they see different information. In another manga this would be the big bad enemy or something. Here there isn't even "or something". Then even as a power fantasy manga he doesn't use the power all that often. "Unique Skill" uses their gimmick all the time in fun and interesting ways. But here we have a character whose skill is collecting the best people and I can count the number of people they collect on one hand. Maybe they shouldn't have been an aristocrat. Maybe they should have been a pirate or a brigand or a thief something that needed a crew of the best of the best of the best. Instead he's an aristocrat and while it starts off interesting. He sees some homeless dude with a huge skill level and snaps him up. He sees a thief girl running from slavers and she's got a huge skill level. But after that it's mostly just using his power as a powerful person to ask people to suggest who would be good and then he uses his eye to confirm they are good. It becomes the one thing this genre should hate... boring.
The other way to go with a story like this is to use the Isekai power to explore the characters. It's not a power fantasy it's about a young prince who is actually a fully grown man in a young prince's body learning to cope with power. Again the bones are there. I like Ars well enough. I like his crew well enough. But the pacing of the manga is just too fast for that kind of story. I mean there's war and tactics and strategy to lay out. There is a romance between Ars and his betrothed. There are petty jealousies that could flare up. When you think about it just because three people are great warriors doesn't mean they get along. We don't get to really chew on any of that. The world is well developed but we don't get to see it. So I guess the term wouldn't be developed but designed.
All together it's the Isekai that seven volumes in, leaves you wishing more happened.
