Reviews for Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!
Back to MangaI came from the tv show (On Crunchyroll) to read the manga because I figured there'd be more content and less censorship, and so far its basically the same quality, and I love it! I couldn't find the listing on here for the adaptation (Maybe cause the tv show is live action, not an anime) but if the manga has the same story beats as the adaptation then I'll go ahead and say that I'm going to love the manga! The art does look a little off in some places (like the noses and sometimes the hands) but overall the characters look pretty cute, though my heart belongs to the beautiful smile of the other male lead in the show. If you haven't yet seen the show, its excellent, I highly highly recommend watching it while you wait for more chapters to be translated, as there are only 11.1 out right now that I have been able to find.
ALSO MAJOR HUGE HUGE POSITIVE OF THE SHOW: You never have to worry about homophobia or violence or the leads being too aggressive (Looking at you, Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi) or anything like that, and also the two couples that are featured here actually interact and support each other! And there's a few characters that may actually be straight that support lgbt people! ALLIES!!
In short, this has been hugely refreshing and Id recommend it to anyone that likes romance media, though I will forewarn that the manga supposedly has more sexual scenes, though as of chapter 11.1 its been pretty light (a little bit of slightly dirty talk), but the show is pretty damn innocent. Definitely not your typical BL.
Watched the live-action before reading the manga but they're equally amazing! They differ a bit which is nice, personally love the manga more but because live-action is a bit different it's even more worth reading/watching both. Kurosawa is such an amazingly cute character and is super sweet towards Adachi, just the thoughts that Adachi reads whenever he touches Kurosawa makes my heart melt. Can't even count how many times I have reread it by now and the number will never stop increasing. Super adorable and wholesome all the way though out the story, Kurosawa and Adachi are one of my absolute favorite couples. The manga isa Must-Read!!
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SOME TINY SPOILERS, BUT YOU SHALL BE FINE. :) I have already rated and reviewed this book on Goodreads. But since there's only a few reviews here on MAL, I decided to do it again! I will just review this by volume like I did last time, that's easier after all. Volume 1: Not much has happened in this volume, but I still enjoyed it. It's very cute and I like the fact that there's fluff right away. I have a soft spot for it, oh my god. I'm not a fan of the plot, the whole virginity thing, I just don't find it appealingor even humorous (probably because I'm ace), but in this manga, that thing isn't as emphasized as much as I thought. In fact, I think the manga can go on without it and still be an enjoyable read. Overall, it's really quick and fun read, lots of fluff which I love. It made me excited on what's yet to come for the next volumes.
Volume 2: This is where we see development between the two (Adachi and Kurosawa), this is where Adachi realizes what he feels toward the other which is really exciting, it made me scream. This is where I loved the characters the more. Also, the whole virginity thing was swept away, it focused on the super fluffy romance instead. And it's sooooooo cute, I almost cried. However, I did not enjoy this volume as much as the first because there were a lot of cliche parts. I mean, I never expected this book to be super unique, I just didn't anticipated it to be this cliche. Nevertheless, the enjoyment is still there. I think I will appreciate everything more when I watch the drama adaptation. Anyway, overall, still loved it, can't wait for the next volumes!
There's already 4 volumes as of right now, but only 1 & 2 have english copies. The rest are coming soon, I will edit this review to share my thoughts and feelings about them. (God, how I wish I could read Japanese right now...) I rated Volume 1 a 4/5 and Volume 2 a 3/5 (on Goodreads) giving an average of 3.5/5 which makes the MAL score 7/10, but I added one more point here because I want to! lol
If you love fluffy romance manga as much as I do, I highly recommend Cherry Magic!, you'll love it, And if you're not into the genre/trope that much, I think it's still worth a shot!
I'm still pretty new in my anime and manga journey. I was looking up the manga for whatever it was that I had been watching already at the time and somehow spotted Cherry Magic in new releases. I made a purchase of all the My Dress Up Darling (watched the anime at random between the mostly shonen my partner convinced me to watch) volumes available, passed on the manga for the other things I was watching (can't remember but it was way too long and I found it available at the library instead), and took a chance on adding Cherry Magic. Since, I've tried toread or watch yaoi and boy love and it's just not at all the same as Cherry Magic. Cherry Magic has this unique, wholesome, solidly beautiful quality that hasn't been replicated anywhere. I'm an adult woman, pretty old (11 years older than my partner who grew up the "right age" for Pokemon and Naruto), and mostly into science fiction. Cherry Magic feels like a very wholesome romance slice of life with gentle magic. The characters feel real and believable and don't take forever to grow as people. Quick reads, very fun and pleasant, and there's a TV show and movie out as well (I have yet to watch the movie but the show is quite good, live action still captures that sweet storytelling quality).
