Reviews for Fall In Love Like a Comic!
Back to MangaThe character sketching in this manga is definitely applause worthy, but apart from that, little saving grace is left. The heroine is forever in chibi form, which is cute, but gets a tad unrealistic. The hero is well, not dashing enough but will do. Minimal character development along with a watery plotline and non existant dialogues. What does manage to stand out are the multitude of expressions Sakura is capable of experiencing as well as the very personal sketch-book feel of the entire manga, like it was drawn sitting in a dull calculus lecture. However, that's about all this manga is standing on. The mangaka managedto think up a cute concept of manga within manga and obviously portraying herself as an easily excitable chibi all the time, but it gets on the nerves for mature audience after a while. The intimate scenes, which were mostly straight out kisses didn't make me squeel or give me butterflies unlike say Zettai Kareshi. Predictable plot elements like misunderstandings, bullying and heroic rescues, waking up in his bed, and jealousy are picked up and sprinkled about but add little to the overall show.
Story: Well the story is quite simple. Starts out with a girl by the name of Rena Sakura who is in secret a highschooler/mangaka. She tends to write love manga's and is trying to deepin her story's with more. One day she runs into the most popular guy in school, Tomoya Okita (the guy that turns all the girls down), who makes a joke to her that she was trying to advance on him. In the process of running into him she drops her manga rough drafts and after a visit to her editiors figures out that they are back at school. In the meantimeTomoya is reading the drafts and when Rena comes back to retrieve them she finds Tomoya who says "Your drawings are really perverted." She then asks Tomoya to go out with her and he accepts. To find out what all happens read it ^^
Art: The art work is really good. There tend to be a lot of people and the backgrounds (to me at least) tend to all look similar. But other then that it is all drawn very nicely.
Characters: The characters are great. Tomoya isn't what you'd think of him at the beginning (again you'll have to develop you're own opinion about him) And Rena is in a way incredibly innocent yet not at the same time. The way she acts around Tomoya is pretty funny. She also tends to over react which is really funny
Enjoyment: I enjoyed this manga a lot. It isn't really mature but it's quite funny and romantic at times. It's a little similar to some other stuff i've read but it's still has a good story. I enjoyed reading it and I would definatly reread it.

'Fall in love like a comic' is fun because it is a story about a mangaka, but if you look better at it, it is a bad story. It has no real end, and the love scenes aren't very good too. The only real good thing is the art; (I really like this drawings. It is a simple story to read once, but I can't really recommand it. It has some fun in it, but that is only because the characters are some stereotype.
I really like this manga. They have separate stories with the same characters... it did start out as a one-shot. Right now, i saw that there are 2 volumes out, each with a different challenge to the two lovers. The characters are, for me, very cutely drawn... especially the lead, Tomoya, but the lead girl, Rena, is also vary cute since she's always drawn in chibi form. There are also not much main characters to complicate the series... its only Rena and Tomoya. Anyway, the manga has its cute moments, some corny moments, but it's nice.
i give it a outstanding score!!! this manga is so cool and very romantic!!!! the characters are cute too!!! the story is about a girl that she is a mangaka and she want to hide it from her classmate!! but unlucky that she drop the drawing in the school library and the most popular guy in school pick it up and look at it!!! when she find out she hurry and go back to the school library and hopefully that no one saw what is inside!!! after she got to the library she saw that guy and he told her that he had it andhe saw it!! and the love story begin at that time!!!! xD to know more detail read it!!! i'm sure you will enjoy it!!!! :D
PS: one more reason, i give it a outstanding score is that this story is point straing to my heart!!! that i want my future love story like a comic(manga)story, and meet my handsome prince he look like the character in animenation(mangas)!!! hehehe :D that funny isn't!!! i know is impossible!!! :P don't mind!!!! anyway, enjoy your reading!!!! :D i hope this will help you!!! or maybe not!!! :o just kidding!!! :)
Good illustrations and funny but the plot was not as interesting as it could have been although the comedy and romantic moments between the main character && her newly found boyfriend are enough to keep you entertained for the most part. Overall, the manga was just 'good'. I feel like there wasn't enough to it. It's true when they say, "Less is more" but this manga had "Too much 'less' and not enough 'more'" It had potiental but it missed the mark by a fraction. I give it a 7 out of 10.
Yeah the story might not be that original and the art wasn't over the moon great, though it was still pretty good and did not distract from the story. I really enjoyed reading this though, especially the ending chapter and the extra after that. It was so cute and really light. I recommend it to anyone who just wants something light and quick to read. I saved some of it onto my laptop. The ending extra is what makes it a 10, sooo cute!!
this is a very cute manga. Took about an hour to read through both volumes in the book store. I wouldn't consider this a manga I would spend my money on even though I love the artwork and the characters. I feel there could have been a lot more developed in the storyline. However, for what its worth, the story is a cute and quick one but worth reading, even if you don't plan on buying it.
ill do it quick: i like shojo manga's but this one is way too predicted. its nothing new' the story is kind of the same story as the last 1000 shojo manga's that iv'e read' the art is normal and the characters aren't special or anything. im givivng it a 6 for everything, because even though its not special or anything' therte are still cute shojo parts that we ALL like in some way or another. so if you really cant find anything to do, this manga will only pass your time a bit.
I very much enjoy this manga! It's just a general, cutesy, short manga. The manga doesn't dance around too much with uneeded filler, just cute and wholesome. The art is very beautiful, too. I don't have much to say except it's exactly what it looks like. I like that Rena had some nice dimension to her with how she felt about Tomaya (eek almost said a spoiler!). I am slightly upset there wasn't more to do with side characters or rivals (as short as this manga is) because they just kind of felt like "We're here so the world is less empty." I did enjoyit though a whole lot! If you have time to just sit down and read two volumes because you like soft romances, this should suit you fine. Obviously not for anyone who isn't a big fan.
Also, no aggressive or abusive/toxic elements like you tend to find in these sorts of manga!!!! I was way too happy about that.
Overall it was very good! A pleasurable experience with very pretty early 2000's art style. Would read again if I was bored or needed a wholesome pick-me-up with a short time slot.
Reading this in 2023 was a very fun thing to do. Reminiscing on past shojo mangas it became a fun read. While it is a very short read that can be finished in a night, that doesn't take away from the impression that you will get from the characters. Rena and Tomoya are a couple that not only fit very well together but was something that happened a lot quicker than other shojos at the time and it is honestly quite refreshing to see a relationship that doesn't take chapters to build albeit it does make the relationship feel less natural. It would have beengreat if there was more information on Tomoya's sister, another mangaka but I think the after stories that are included do paint a pretty good picture on how she was. Overall there aren't too many shojo mangas about mangakas (especially around this time) that create a relationship that is so cute that it will leave a lasting impression on you. Definitely a solid read in 2023 if you enjoy quick paced short shojos.
