Reviews for Hell Baby
Back to MangaThis is a truly unique manga. At first it seems like your typical horror manga, but near the end, it actually turns very sad. I really enjoyed reading this manga {and to be honest, I did cry a bit near the end}. Again, if you can't handle gore, then this still really isn't for you. But it is a very good manga, and I recommend it :3 This one is alot easier to find then most Hino Hideshi works.
The synopsis might be a little misleading. I went in expecting a full-on violent, hate-ridden revenge story but that wasn't exactly what I got. And this is a good thing. I grew fonder of the baby by the page, and her motivations shown in the synopsis differ a little from what they really are. You can feel sympathetic for this character regardless of her appearance. The story is, as weird as it may sound, sweet. Amidst all the terrible things she experienced and did, the life she had to lead, and even having the concept of revenge in her mind, she kept her innocence and good naturethroughout the story.
I think it's interesting to think about these aspects because we rarely empathize with the ugly or scary, but the author gave her so much innocence and sweetness, especially on the first half of the story, that it's really hard not to connect with her (she wasn't even as ugly in my eyes by the time I finished reading).
It's a remarkable story, surprisingly sweet and sad. Would recommend.
This manga is really good despite it being a short read. The story really captures the intrinsic need of a human being, even if the people around them deem them less, and it's all conveyed through a very simple story. Despite how simplistic the art may look and all, though it is portrayed through the eyes of one who is considered to be a monster, it really captures one's emotions, if one relates to the main character in a sense. There are a lot of gory scenes and the "hell" baby may be portrayed as this monster-like creature, someone who wants to suck on bloodinstead of milk, infested with maggots, eats and preys on rabid dogs, and cannibalizes people. But despite all that, the baby has a sense that she wants to belong, with it starting from nesting on a mannequin, and finding the concept of family with a group of dogs. With that, as she grows old, she sees the city, and hears the words "mom" and "dad" for the first time uttered by a girl. With that being her first words as well. After that, a witch visits her and gives her a chance to find her own "destiny", and then she ventures into the world filled with humans. The ending is also really great, and the ending is something that I find really tragic. So one should really give this a go, and see it for oneself, and be the judge of it.
Basically Frankenstein, but if the monster was born as a human. Initially there were slight feelings of empathy for the baby, but then it became a cannibal… enjoying feasting on human flesh. Essentially at the end it was sort of like there’s a limit to how bad you can be as in she did not sink fully into "depravity". By the end there is a feeling of neutrality towards the girl. It was a good concept though and was well done for 13 chapters but not completely original due to Frankenstein which was leagues better at drawing an emotional connection to the inhuman being. Iwould recommend though because it is short enough to read in less than a sitting and you can form your own opinion on it (you may find it better than I did).
I read the first 5 chapters in my native language but chapters weren't complete + translation was bad, so I completed the rest of chapters in english. Anyway here is a simple review: first the art style was unique and good I liked it, in a way human design and their faces in this manga reminded me of some maybe 60th manga art style that I have seen before. so average and repetitive story and events. I didn't feel anything special. The ideas of childhood, motherhood, family, love, beauty, and ugliness were presented in a very ordinary way. I didn't feel any deep meanings or symbolism. I will notgive it Not Recommended because it not that really bad, also I'm sure there are people who might like this manga. specially that it can be read in a one sitting.
