This shoujo manga is a bit of a hidden gem. My Pink is Overflowing (and can I just say, what a title...) is basically a short romance series where the main girl is a total horndog, but tired of being considered "easy" and just getting toyed with by playboys. After a literal page one sex scene that's crashed, on page two, by the revelation that her boyfriend is two-timing her, our heroine comes to the epiphany that the solution to her perpetual boy troubles is obvious. She can easily avoid all the playboys... by only dating virgins! Fortunately for her, it doesn't even take untilthe end of chapter 1 to find one, and he's a real dreamboat to boot. Unfortunately for her, that boy is straight-laced as they come with a very traditional view of romance - he's totally committed to saving himself for marriage and "dating with the idea of marriage in mind". She decides to take the plunge anyway and proclaims her intent, to his face, to take his virginity.

From there, literally 80% of the manga is MC swooning over her dreamy hunk of a socially awkward, virgin boyfriend, and attempting to tempt him into the carnal side of dating through the tried and true method of steamy risqué shoujo scenes. And I'm totally here for it. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's sexy, sometimes it's endearing, but the end result is a pretty lovable and entertaining duo. Think of B Gata H Kei (which, if you haven't read and somehow got here first, you totally should!) but with a much more "experienced" female lead and with the steam dial turned up to max.

And I mean, sure, if you want to get technical there's a regular shoujo plot outside of that in the intervening panels - a love rival or two, a brief foray into the characters' relationship with the parents, what have you - but none of that really matters. This manga is about not-quite-pornographic, racy but vanilla bedroom scenes of the kind liable to induce a nosebleed in your median Japanese teenage girl. And it excels at this task.

But I do have to say that despite the way I'm making this manga sound like it's nothing more than erotica, it's actually pretty wholesome and I really liked the dynamic of this couple. It's not very often we get a borderline-nympho girl as the main lead in a shoujo manga, and much less often we see her complemented by a less assertive, less experienced boy - and even less often we see them both taken seriously and given proper development. The two of them aren't just played off as a comedy gag. This manga definitely errs more on the side of rom than on com, it treats the characters and their relationship seriously, and it somehow works out beautifully. Score one for sex positivity here.

As to the aesthetics the quality of the art is pretty above average, minimal but clean, distinctly shoujo but modern stylistically. It's not an award-winning masterpiece by any means, but it sure was well-crafted and a lot of fun. Overall I give My Pink is Overflowing a solid 8/10 and do strongly recommend it to any fan of shoujo manga who's in the mood for something a bit more spicy with an MC who's got no qualms about her own healthy sexuality.

Before I wrap this up though, there's just one more thing I have to point out. What's really crazy is just how underrated this series is on MAL. At the time of writing, it has a score of only 6.88 with only 160 users having even scored it! That's really low for a manga that's by any metric at least half decent, and fully translated / officially licensed in English. I feel bad for Kodansha, having gone to the trouble of publishing this and apparently not seeing any return on their investment. So if this review's convinced you... please support the official release!

tl;dr: It's a pretty cute shoujo (although really more like josei) smut manga filled with lots of very cute and wholesome moments and a nice relationship.....but it is sorta let down by the constant misunderstandings that can be annoying at times Story (Spoilers for first few chaps.):The story isn't anything too mind-boggling. Himari ends up in an unexpected encounter with her boss, finds out he's actually a virgin, they get together and a love story ensues. Most of the story follows the two's relationship together, with all the ups and downs as they come to grow closer to each other bothm emotionally and intimately.

Honestly speaking, this series has lots of cute moments in it. Both leads slowly start to open up to each other and build their relationship, and there are a lot of pretty sweet romantic moments in them, enough that you'd be needing insulin. Unfortunately that comes at a cost.

The misunderstandings..

While yes, thankfully the misunderstandings do get resolved without dragging on for tooooo long, the frequency at which they appear can kinda be annoying at times, because you just want to experience the wholesomeness and after a while, the same ol'choosing not to speak about this issue leading to a misunderstanding becomes annoying tbh.

This series also is one of those romances that focus a lot on accepting insecurities of the other. Now don't get me wrong, I find those kinds of romances to be the sweetest/cutest, but there's a limit to how many times you should be throwing that kinda stuff before it just gets way too over repetitive

Art:

The art is really well done, the character designs look great, the smutty scenes have all the softcore porn fulfillment you'd need, and the overall scenary is well done

Character:

I do like our main leads for the most part at least. The male MC is one who looks stoic on the outside but is actually quite soft on the inside, whereas the female is actually quite perverted on the inside, which is nice to see for a shoujo/josei manga. Their romantic interactions together can be really sweet/wholesome, and I honestly found myself internally 'kyaa-ing' quite a few times. It's also really nice seeing the characters accepting each other's insecurities and truly treasuring each other

My biggest grip however, is regarding their inability to properly communicate at times. To an extent it does make sense given the FeMC's past and the male MC' character, why they choose to not speak out in the beginning, but it does get kinda annoying when even despite all they go through, they still repeat the same mistakes that they should've learned from

Enjoyment:

Honestly, I really do like the series when it's more fluffy/lovey-dovey, but I'm not the biggest fan with how the drama plays out in the series, because it can get quite annoying. If you're looking for a good smut manga with some cute (and good looking) couples, then this is a good shout

It hooked you in. It started off with girl got cheated on, then even duped by a married dude who went to a goukon and tried to pick her up! Then he insults her (the douchebag married dude with a kid). She got drunk in the cafe she worked at. Somehow she ends up in a hotel with her boss. Her boss will only date someone with the intention of marrying them. (so you can already predict the ending.) So her goal is to make him like her. He's willing to date her. It even had humor. Like when Kazuki, the male lead, was atthe pharmacy trying to figure out what to buy. You got your overly dramatic female lead with your standoff-ish tsundere male lead. But then he became overly affectionate once he fell for her. Not the tsundere he started off to be.

The first three volumes were good. There was drama. What's with douchebags, they wanna get with you then insult your face when you don't do what they want you to do? Relatable. Who hasn't had that happen when you went to a bar.

None of their insecurities are shined on again. It started off with them both having insecurities about dating again. Her getting dumped and rejected. Him freaking out girls when he tells them straight up he'll only date if they're going to get married. He isn't going to waste his time, which is highly commendable.

I don't fall for they get together, they'll magically be free of their insecurities weighing them down.

Where's the enthusiasm from the first few chapters? Their insecurities? I don't think love, being together will waive them of their insecurities and worries. It was down-to-earth, relatable initially. You could relate to them.

I liked the art. It looked like a shoujo manga. The art was the saving grace.

But then, it became what I assume is fifty shades of gray manga form.

Them just getting intimate nearly every chapter. Smut almost every chapter that to me, just became bland.

And then it just ended with what you assume would happen. I just lost my enthusiasm.

Read the first volume or two. It started off really well but just became bland and rather boring. It started off so so well! It had the right mix of smut, tsundere male lead back when he was a tsundere and drama.
