This manga is one huge journey, one that shouldn't be brushed off due to its weird first few chapters. What we get throughout this manga is a somewhat slow yet steady development between our main leads. They start going out rather early and hit the "relationship goals" once in a while, in a very satisfactory manner. On top of that, both characters really do feel like proper adults. They communicate their feelings and their problems. They also sometimes can get annoyed with each other or even fight, but I love it that they will always seek to fix it by talking things out, saying everything out, andthen reconciling.

Although overall I didn't find that this manga had too much drama, so even that thing is pretty rare.

It's mostly adults fluff. Their small talks, how much they love each other and cherish each other, the sweet words they say to each other... That's what makes me love this manga so much.

While reading this manga it really does feel like I'm getting into their life and slowly see them grow. There are a lot of exciting moments in here, but I also get to see them just... living their own honest lives.

Going to work, talking with co-workers, going out for a drink, coming back home to have their own time for themselves (together or alone), it feels very... "normal", and soothing.

I'd say that it's not all interesting, I did feel like towards the end we had quite a bit of stretching, but it wasn't that bad.

We also get to expand on side characters who are related to our main couple, and really build a small "world" around them - which is their families. Each with their own story.

The romance is good. It's not exactly "flashy" but it's very steady and comforting. Definitely the more "down to earth" type. But I still love every bit of romantic moment they shared.

Another thing that adds to the feeling of softness and warmness is definitely the art style which I really liked, it's really soft, and makes both of our leads look super cute.

I loved seeing also how each of them developed individually (and obviously as a couple), they had problems they had to overcome, each with their own insecurities and problems, but together they really could overcome every hurdle.

One last thing I want to commend to this manga will go in the spoiler section:

[Spoiler Section]

One of the things that stood out to me BY FAR compared to all the other romance manga I read, is how we actually go through ALL the stages in a relationship, and don't really skip just to the key events.

For example, from getting together to living together will show us the two hunting for a place to live in, and slowly moving their stuff to their new home.

And the wedding? A full volume with preparations... I'll admit, it really diminishes from the "impact" of a wedding, but it's a weirdly nice change of pace to see all that.

Finally, when proceeding to the "kids" point, we actually see Asako going over pregnancy stages, with the various things that define pregnancy (sicknesses, weird feelings, etc.)

There's also an official side H manga from the author that's about kid-making, yea... Do check it out!

[Spoiler Section End]

I've heavily enjoyed this manga, and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a romance manga that is completed, and features a competent adult couple. 10/10

This manga has the cutest and most wholesome couple ever. Truly an underrated series, as this couple not only portrays one of the more realistic relationships I've read in manga, but also the most healthiest in terms of character progression and motivation. To give a short summary, Ase to Sekken is a romance between Yaeshima Asako, an office worker who struggles with an excessive sweating problem, and Natori Koutaro, a man with a keen nose and smelling fetish, who also develops soaps for the same company Yaeshima works in. At first glance, this manga sounds like something ecchi or hentai related. However, this is amisplacement of the genre as it goes beyond that and presents a more adult and mature approach to romantic relationships. A few chapters in, the two main characters are an established couple, as they help each other guide their way through life.

What makes this couple so charming is that despite their differences, they have great chemistry and they wholeheartedly admire and respect each other. Their effective communication with each other allows them to teach the other how to better themselves and create a good relationship. It's so frustrating to me when miscommunication is one of the factors that drive many romance manga couples into arguments and confusion because of the lack of direct communication. The couple in Ase to Sekken feels refreshing in that regard because they take account of realistic hardships that could occur in a relationship while also introducing their characteristics and slowly developing the two characters at the same time. It's ability to combine great character development and further the progress of the couple's relationship as each chapter goes by makes this manga very appealing and genuinely satisfying to read.

To be honest, when I first read the synopsis, I was turned off from reading the manga thinking it was a story about a strange man having a 'smell fetish'. While the latter remains somewhat true, I was surprised that I came to like the story and Asako and Natori-san's relationship. Despite the smell fetish, their relationship is quite relaxing without any orchestrated drama. It's a refreshing (no pun intended) and lighthearted work within the josei genre. If you are looking for a josei romance with a little bit of fluff and smut, this might be for you. I am definitely looking forward to morechapters!

Yes all 10, to me this was one of the weirdest stories at first, yeah it had a very weird plot...a guy that smells everthing. Threw me off won't deny that, but what got me hooked is how the characters were written and the progression. Usually you get that lame third wheel plot, a stupid clueless MC, a stroy and plot that doesn't go anywhere for years and have it's charm slowly but surely die down, no not this one. The romance was amazing, they tackled actual situations that couples go through, and throw in harsh and very difficult life moments, and how they dealwith them in their own way, and even support each other regardless of their flaws, thats pure right there. What was also great is how you will see all sorts of other relationships, the supports were on point, i really can't think of another manga with an actual, amazing romance story quite like this one. the ending was also a special treat, i highly recommend this, again it has a weird fetish type mc so yeah it will throw you off (maybe) but if given the chance, pure gold.

This is meant to be a gentle, heartwarming romance between a shy girl with excessive perspiration and a brilliant coworker with a smelling fetish. They meet, get involved with each other and gradually their relationship deepens. So, where's the problem? Well, maybe it's a good read for girls, I wouldn't know, but from a guys point of view there are several issues. Their relationship is too perfect. Come on, it's an eternal honeymoon, not even one tiny slice of selfishness anywhere! He is really too kind and sweet and caring; every single waking moment he is only thinking of her, how to make her happy, how to surprise her.I can understand people might dream of a robot lover who is absolutely selfless, but this is really ridiculous.

The MC is the worst element in the story: she is this bland girl who simply can't grow up. She catches a very desirable bachelor, but her insecurity gets in the way all the time. It may be cute at the beginning, but after several months she still blushes for EVERYTHING, is incapable of expressing her feelings and behaves like a 13yo for what concerns physical love. She is lucky enough to have a sexy partner that desires her and only her, but her only concern is to avoid essentially anything but the blandest contact, to the point of being afraid of taking a bath together, let alone DOING something in the tub instead of the bed. Seriously, at one point she even blushes and frowns, as if he's a pervert just because he wants to see her in a swimsuit she has bought for a trip! Seriously??? Moreover, considering she is well aware of his scent fetish, does she learn to use it to seduce and tease him, for mutual satisfaction? Of course not: she just keeps requesting him to suppress or limit it, because it's so embarrassing - and of course, he obliges.

I don't think there's a man anywhere that would put up with such an insecure prude, except maybe some mama's boy who's just fine with holding hands. While some insecurity may be ok in a shy girl, even she should learn to move on her own two feet, eventually. Facing an eternal child will inevitably kill love in the end, so the impossible attraction this nice young man feels for this boring and childish woman is well beyond any suspension of disbelief I can muster.

Finally! A romance manga for sweaty girls like me! It's actually really refreshing to read a manga that not only has actual romance in it, but plays with that romance in an incredibly fun and heartwarming way. The nearly tangible chemistry between our two main characters, I'm not ashamed to admit, gives me butterflies every time. This manga doesn't shy away from the "sexy" parts of exploring love, but it's never explicit or gratuitous, which is another refreshing concept to add to the list. This is one of the most realistically evolving love stories I've read in a very long time, and I can't recommend itenough to people who are tired of the "Will they? Won't they?" cocktease that manga/anime is notorious for.

How to not feel creepy while writing this review... Sweat and Soap (yes it's a weird premise, yes it's a weird first few chapters, and YES it's worth sticking with.) It feels extremely rare to find a romance manga that takes place between two adults (not high school!? yay!) It's about a guy who's a little bit too obsessed with smells and a woman that overapplies scents to mask a condition that causes her to sweat a lot. I like the realism of this one. It's a realistic couples that have their troubles, both of them with their own issues that affect their relationship- but theyalways come back together. All the characters are super loveable, and you find yourself rooting for just about everyone. I also love the art style, and how the female lead is not your traditional "attractive" anime character. She looks like a side character, and that's also what I love lots. It's not made to be attractive people doing attractive things. It feels real, personal and in the end, quite touching.

Highly recommend.

I can't believe it... Sweat and Soap has come to an end (cries in weeb). Let's get right into the manga basics. Story; A woman by the name of Asako Yaeshime has had a problem with sweating since she was a kid, and because of bully it's become a major dent into her everyday life. She began a hourly and daily routine to keep up with her hygiene using her favourite soap from her work, Liliadrop. By coincidence at a Liliadrop shop, Koutarou Natori with his fantastic sense of smell ran over to the unsuspected Asako looking at soaps. Without a thought or pause in hishead, he goes in for a big whiff and proclaiming she has one of the most amazing natural scents. Trying to appear less creepy, Natori tells Asako he's one of the members of product developers for Liliadrop, and was going to review how the new products were doing until he smelt her. Not able able to control his urge for amazing smells, Natori ends up convincing Asako to become friends that way he can smell her on a daily basis and get inspiration for new Liliadrop products. This daily visit ends up turning into romance, lot's of first and new beginning. You get to watch these two awkward and adorable become one of the best romances in the 21st century. Art; Absolutely beautiful. Every drop of sweat, nerve wracking moment that made you want to puke, blushes and of course tears. Characters; The balance between the two main leads left me with join. They were able to over come awkward moments, learn about each-others differences/similarities and what it means to want to keep someone special with you your whole life.

Overall, I really enjoyed the ride this manga took me on. Sweet romance, childhood trauma's, learning to trust, excepting the past and getting ready for the future as long as you have that special someone with you. My heart is crushed that this series is over, but the heart warming ending is exactly what I needed.

I can't wait for future me to re-read this manga, get emotional all over again and read my crappy/cheesy review with a few laughs.

Heyo, i was reluctant to read this after reading a summary about about smelling fetish like some reviewers but as them i jumped the train and boy the ride was awesome! Story 9/10 The premise is about scents and romance between two coworkers and their slice of life full of healthy relationship moments (and wholesome ones with some erotic touch). World setting is more or less realistic and natural besides their meeting (it was kinda artificial) but other than that you see two adults passionately loving each other solving relationship problems in adult like manner, serious relationship questions are solved and are showed to a reader (how todeal with jealousy, how to talk to your partner(simply talk it out and find a solution), mindset of people in love, how to gallantly reject, how to accept someone, how to support someone and procedures to move in together without much hassle.

As of chapter 47 i didn't see any NTR or artificial drama that was needed hookup

the reader, it would be probably a stretch to say it but it is a nice and easy guide for young adults on "How to maintain relationship healthy and prosperous".

Characters are with their own set of quirks with some light comedy involved but keeping it very real without absurdity, flirting seemed just right not too obscene and not too timid.

Art 7/10

Probably the weakest point in this manga but do not mistake it as being bad it was just lacking compared to the story or characters in here.

Characters themselves were simplistic but unique, Male Lead and Female Lead as well as supports didn't seem as mobs and had some unique faces to them with different sets of emotions drawn. The biggest flaw was background it was probably where author decided to cut corners (blanks, simple background and etc.), though there were some nice background scenes but author indeed tried to put background in the background, i only noticed it after opening the manga again and simply viewing art element while completely avoiding content.

Speech bubbles and panel placement is up to standard.

Characters 9/10

We have Koutarou (ML) and Asako (FL) as our leads here and few supports who are advancing and helping our characters advance the story quite a bit, without them this manga would a shadow of itself.

Koutarou - Inventor of soaps a chief of his department of the sorts, workaholic, smelling fetish, has a extraordinary smelling sense, outgoing, confident, funny, quirky, smart and honest.

Koutarou is like a bulldozer or an arrow when is has a goal in mind he would do everything to achieve it (in a good way at least for now ). He doesn't shy away from problems and tries to face them head to head whilst maintaining some flaws they are miniscule and are not worth mentioning. The biggest problem i would say is that he is almost flawless kinda bugged me the whole time with guy like that any girl would be like a niagara falls but then it hit me........NOO he is perfect only for one girl and exactly for his other half! He is exclusively wholesome only with someone who truly loves.

Asako - accountant, shy, sweating problems since childhood, kind, a keeper, quite perky(had to point it out), honest, sweet and smart.

Asasko is a typical gray mouse until she meets our here ML she is a rough diamond a turtle who hides away because of her lack of confidence. She is a woman that any man i think would want as a wife and partner in life, she can produce a unique that forces men to become a guardian a perfect support but do not mistake it for something bad she is like a support in dota 2, she does and tries a lot of things to win, it's subtle and not seen as a single great achievement but only a good carry can understand that without this support they would lose.

While reading this i understood better what i want from my partner and what i should strive to be.

Supporting characters are unique, they are not ordinary manga troupes they cheerful and optimistic people who have their own lives going on but because it seems like this world is full of butterflies everyone tries to help out everyone and so our supports reach out and help our leads to grow as well as our Mains are helping supports a symbiosis of sorts.

Finance department chief is what i strive for he is Terry Crews (his TV persona i don't know his "real" self) of japanese corporate world though he is not better than other supports but he was the one i could empathize with the most and a man that i would rather be.

Enjoyment 9/10

Recently i have read quite a few wholesome romance mangas without dramas i would think it would that to become dull after some time but no, not for me i ENJOYED every chapter i was sad that i caught up so fast and i would need to wait to read it again but you know what mangas like that are support pillars they are one of those things that help look up to tomorrow.

Overall 9/10

Would I advice it? Definitely it is pure and healthy romance without dark taint in it i don't mind dark taint but this manga doesn't stir up my insides and carries me through the heavenly clouds without trying to strangle me with suspension and grief, who knows this manga could do to you the same as it did for me!

May the force of WHOLESOME be with us!

If you want: - Spice, without tons of fanservice - Hilariously situated comedy - Adults that can act childish at times but are still mature overall - Misunderstandings that are dealt with through actual conversations and understanding - Insecurities that aren't solved in just one event as a "problem" - More nuanced relationship struggles/situations This is for you Gold Standard Seinen Romance. Easily one of the best relationships in a romance manga on how well it portrays very different people and how creative the situations and relationship progress slowly over time. Characters can act childish at times, like anyone can, but at the end of the day, everyone in this story is anadult that has the where withal to sit down and talk out their problems/frustrations and understand their problems so they can work towards improving themselves and their relationships.

Story: Its a office work romance, so you have some of the standard things that happen in that, but with the added twist of the male MC's "quirks" which adds some layers onto their dynamic inside and outside the workplace. It's that perfect level of spice that keep the dish palatable and interesting, while not being too how and requiring you to stop eating.

Art: The artwork as a whole is tame but does good within its bounds, it doesn't do insane vistas or hyper-detailed expressions, but knows how to convey its meaning through its framing and simple techniques. Its above average for that reason, and still adds to the work as a whole. It uses a lot thicker line work as opposed to blur or what I would call "glitter" for important face shots, which add a layer of "security" and "safety" to the intentions of the frame and give climaxes a very rewarding feeling as opposed to a "doki doki" type feeing.

Characters: The best thing about these characters is how the story doesn't treat insecurities as a one-time problem to solve. Insecurities and weaknesses don't just go away after you solve one problem, they can take form in different ways and its through multiple instances of fighting against them can you truly begin to understand them and work towards resolving them. Both main characters have flaws and insecurities that are shown through the different stages of relationships and it really helps make their bond a very realistic one as they tackle them in different forms, growing stronger in the process.

Enjoyment: It isn't even very ecchi, some purposeful shots here and there but it doesn't do blatant fanservice. I say that because it is ultra spicy, the prime spice, the cream of the crop spice. The type of spice that makes you go "God Dayum! woo boy" type of spice, and I can't stop reading it at those times. It is one of those stories that is eye-opening to the types of stories you wished you had known about before and rightfully so, as it does so much right.

This was such a fun and wholesome read. I picked up this manga while scrolling through Instagram and finding a few panels of the manga that looked pretty good so thank you lord & saviour Instagram for bringing this godsend of a manga to me. The artstyle of this manga was simple, and pretty pleasing to the eyes. The storyline was nice as well, following 2 office workers going abut their daily lives as workers and lovers. Even though the first few chapters of the story was pretty weird, the story progresses well and you actually see visible character development in the chapters all theway till the end.

This manga really depicts how a normal, functional, mature relationship should be, where a couple works through their problems together and solves their problems in a mature way. There's no denseness, no NTR, no stupid stuff. All the characters know what they want and are willing to put in the effort to get it.

Natori and Asako are so cute together too :)

I tried chapter one as a joke, and it sucked. It violates human rights because the guy keeps sniffing the girl, which looks like a fetish. And it's illogical that a person's sweat would smell good, and random people want to use soaps/perfumes/etc that smell like someone's sweat. It's a perverted material when a random guy starts pining for a lady just to smell her. And it's trying to make the girl look stupid since the girl somehow forgives the guy and lets him sniff and date her. I don't think most people who don't like weird office romances would like this story.

Ase to Sekken managed to impress me with how smoothly the story flows. Romance manga has never been much to my liking, but this read was extremely enjoyable and fun, my eyes floated through the pages. Prior to this manga, I read another short romance manga that also caught my attention, called "Telework Yotabanashi." Soon after, I started reading Ase to Sekken, but I never imagined that the author would be the same. What surprised me, he truly has a talent for romance stories. At first, I found it strange how Natori had this obsession with smelling and how he would be constantly sniffing Asako, but iteventually merges with both Asako's character and the story's purpose.

There are many fun and happy moments with some drama along the way. The author portrays a relationship between two people and the difficulties we face when opening up a space that used to be exclusively ours to the entry of someone else.

The pacing of the story is excellent, and the ending warms the heart.

It's a romance worth reading; it was a good read.

---------------

Pt/Br

This is easily one of the best romance mangas I've read. I was looking for realistic adult romance and found it in Ase to Sekken. There's a good blend of comedy, cuteness, and wholesome. The concept of the manga is unique in itself. Sure it's about two office workers who fall in love, but who would have guessed that soap and sweat were important aspects of these two worker's lives that would lead them to one another? I didn't think I'd get very far in the manga, but I just finished it today after binge-reading it. Before reading, however, you should know that Ase toSekken, being categorized as Seinen, has some adult scenes, and it does touch a bit on bullying, as it was a part of Asako's childhood. I think these make the manga all the more realistic, though.

A neatly packaged story with charming elements, but also a bit weird occasionally. For most people, the biggest hurdle to overcome will be the smelling fetish. As in, Koutarou, the main guy, really likes to sniff Asako. While it is pretty tame and it never got gross, it can still make or break this manga for some readers. Personally, I still find it a tiny bit strange from time to time but it is also the source of many wholesome moments. The art is easy on the eyes and filled with enough detail to support the narrative. Each of the more established cast members is uniquely drawnand fits into the overall style. There is enough expression on everyone's face to immediately see their current emotions.

As for the story, it is a pleasant journey. That being said, I do want to mention a few bothersome things.

The way our two lovebirds met could have been handled with a bit more care, but I guess it was depicted like that to get into the meat of the matter sooner. The story does not tell how two people slowly fall in love, it focuses on the relationship aspect.

Another point of criticism, certain plot points get resolved too quickly and things are happening too fast. In general, a slower approach might have been more beneficial to the overall story.

And finally, the relationship between our couple almost feels too innocent. Well, definitely not in one way because there were enough steamy moments throughout the manga. No, what I mean is, their relationship never hits a difficult challenge. Given, many parts of the story are a touch romanticized but it never went overboard.

Frankly, I was happy their relationship was so innocent. If I wanted drama, I would pick up another manga, with "Ase to Sekken" I got something easily digestible and enjoyable.

That being said, Asako does suffer from ugly childhood memories, which followed her into adulthood and shaped her character. Now we see her slowly opening up and being less harsh with herself. While it is important to the narrative, it never stands in the spotlight for too long.

Finally, what I absolutely appreciate was the setting. No single high school in sight, only everyday working adults. It felt refreshing.

A wholesome manga with a little bit of spice. The synopsis did sound a bit weird at first but once you get over it and start reading, you will be pleasantly surprised. It just about an adorable couple where the girl sweats a bit much and the guy loves her smell. There's no unnecessary drama and no huge obstacles to overcome. It's just about them and the challenges of normal and healthy relationships. Like every healthy couple they also have sex, it's nothing too nsfw just a bit steamy (and good-smelling). The story is very enjoyable and has the right pace, nothing seems out of place. It's extremely wholesome and a bit funny. There's not a single character I dislike, there's no villain or rival. And I love the art, it's cute and-well drawn.

I would give it a 10/10 but since it's on-going, I'll wait and see what comes next for the couple and the story. 9/10

EDIT: I've finished the manga while ago and have reread it twice since. It definitely is a 10/10 for me.

I haven't written a review in a while, however, a heart-warming story such as this i think deserves it. The story follows the story of Asako, a young lady who works as a cosmetics and fragrance company. she is also is very self conscious of her excessive sweating and body odour. Its nice to see a real every day problem portrayed in a very well thought out way. The story follows her meeting and falling for the companies high flying golden boy Natori. in a chance encounter he sniffs her out (literally) as he hasn't smelled a scent like hers before. From there we aretreated to a very well though out and written adult relationship. its not always happy, there are worries and anxieties in both parties and what I feel are real thoughts feelings and hang ups that every relationship has.

This manga does have sex in it and some partial nudity so it is aimed at older teens adults (nothing too bad, only the stuff you'd see in a fledgling relationship). What is nice about it though is that the fan service and sexual scenes are not only tasteful but are used to highlight a moment rather than be played for laughs or cheap fan baiting and are actually part of a budding relationship.

I'd say the only odd thing is the premise of Natori having a smelling fetish but this isn't too badly done.

All in all it is a really lovely telling of a real adult relationship with a lot of thought put into the writing, simple anxieties and problems that a new relationship faces. its lovely to see both Asako and Natori grow as people and work their way through their misgivings, past relationships and problems.

if you are unsure whether to pick this up i will give it my personal recommendation as being one of the most well written adult relationships ive read since Golden time

"What, a smell fetish?!" I thought to myself when I read the premise. Soon after I started reading the manga I realized that it is not that kind of story at all. It is a very wholesome and cute romance story. Each chapter made me smile and giddy. The characters are so real and their relationship is to die for. Overall, if you are looking for a cute romance story with mature and realistic characters this is it. SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!!------- * * * * * The couple of chapters that focused on Asako's anxiety about her sweat hit me pretty hard. It was so relatable. She started avoiding her boyfriend, bottlingup everything inside, acting like she was fine. And at the end when they talked about it together she bawled in front of him. She let it all out. It almost made him cry. It made me almost cry as well. I will remember this scene forever.

I am currently caught up on what has been translated (up to chapter 52) and this manga is both so enjoyable and a guilty pleasure. Office Romance where the guy isn't a COMPLETE idiot when it comes to his feelings, he knows what he wants and is willing to do anything for his female counterpart. So that already was nice to see. Character development is present but not overwhelmingly so, but I can see the direction the characters are going so I look forward to those development! And yeah its a little weird how much he smells her but honestly, it has charm. Worth the read!if you don't like *spicy* scenes or are a minor then maybe don't read it, or proceed with caution. It's not an erotica manga or goes into great detail in those scenes but they do occur frequently in the beginning.

If you are a fan rom-coms but dislike all the 'will-they-won't-they' BS, love rivals, lack of communication-driven misunderstandings, and all the other more tedious aspects of most romance manga, then this is a definite must-read. It's just a super sweet and fairly realistic slice-of-life with two average adults that each have quirks, insecurities, and lives of their own learning how to open up and share their life with another. Definitely a feel-good recommendation. And because this site demands a character minimum, please enjoy the following poem "No Man Is An Island" by John Domme: No man is an island, Entire of itself, Every man is a pieceof the continent,

A part of the main.

If a clod be washed away by the sea,

Europe is the less.

As well as if a promontory were.

As well as if a manor of thy friend's

Or of thine own were:

Any man's death diminishes me,

Because I am involved in mankind,

And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;

It tolls for thee.
