Reviews for Monokuro Shounen Shoujo
Back to MangaWhen i first read it, i honestly didn't want to. It seemed like a manga that would be over supernatural (i like realistic stories) with drama and all that crap. But when i got to read a little more, it started to drag me in. The main character, Kureha is hillarious, full of expression and has a good sense of justice (but pretty clumsy and has a big mouth). But the story is funny and does have it cute moments. It's an amazing manga that deserves a chance to be read! Story gets an 8. Although it may not be the best, it'samazing with funny moments at every corner. But it does lead up to romantic parts. About Kureha, your typical 15 year old going to a high school ... filled with beasts! Of course it seems like a typical fantasy, but with hillarious outcomes, the mangaka makes it funny yet breath-taking. With great characters, and leasons on having fun, the story deserves an 8!
Art gets a 6. It's not the best art, but it's cute and edgy. I also love how the mangaka makes it beautiful and the characters are sketched out well. Chibis are also kawai. The scenery the mangaka draws is amazing. i think it deserves a 6 (or 6.5, maybe 7).
Characters are typical. It surrounds the group of four (kureha, ukyou, chyouchyou, chigaya) who have typical personalities that you've probably seen before. But their personalities are so well fitted together, and the way they act is so cute but funny, it gave off warm feelings. It's unique and funny and the characters are well built. The way the mangaka developes them throughout the story is well done and awesome. It deserves an 8.
Enjoyment. Yes i absolutley enjoyed it so far. Its extremley funny at the begining to end, but has it's serious and "doki-doki" moments! I love it sooooo much that it deserves a 9! Maybe i over did it, but it did amazing in impressing me by the heart and my laughter. I enjoy every page of it!
Overall, it's an 8. It's funny, heart touching, heart thumping, and gives off a warm feeling. Why not take that step into reading this manga? I'm sure you won't regret it! ;)
I really enjoyed reading this one... it starts off a little slow, but you get really hooked as the world gets more complex, and the relationships develop... The romance between Kureha and Ukyou was subtle but exponential, and I do appreciate a soft love developing between a fight-y couple... and the dynamic between the mains is pretty complex, even if the overall story got a little confused at times... Definitely a love story with not love-triangles… no no. Love chains. Rings upon rings of people who like people who no longer like people who actually never liked people who are in love with other people. But thewriting is great, the characters - Kureha’s main besties: Ukyou, ChouChou and Chigaya - are funny, and have a lot of great development throughout the series and being in an AU with beasts and various kingdoms (since they’re the various princes and princesses of their respective beast kingdoms), there’s a lot of interesting plot lines that get explored.
The ending... look I'm not saying it was bad... I'm just salty and demand a do-over..
An excellent story with characters that aren't grating! I enjoyed reading this story from beginning to end though the ending is majorly lackluster. #sorrynotsorry :p I adored Ukyou greatly, and his and Kureha's cat-and-mouse (better yet rabbit) relationship sets a great foundation for the story. Honestly, I enjoyed finding out about his familial background a lot! Also, I liked Kureha. At first, I thought she was going to be annoying, but she is an actual shoujo female character that can stand up and protect herself. Since entering this school, she is able to form real friendships and romantic relationships (come on now, it's shoujo. we livefor this stuff).
Besides Kureha's main romantic relationship, the rest of the romantic relationships are held together with freshly-squeezed glue that hasn't dried yet. Needless to say, they are a bit rushed.
I'm kind of rambling, so this isn't a truly cohesive review. Still, READ IT! I was pleasantly surprised :)
