Reviews for Superwomen in Love! Honey Trap and Rapid Rabbit
Back to MangaThis manga isn't very well known, so if you stumble upon this then I'm glad to know other people are either interested in it or are currently reading it. (This is Shoujo Ai, meaning it contains light lesbian-related contents, so read at your own risk if you don't like those kind of things) Hero-San (as I'll be shortening it for the sake of saving time) is cute, adorable and, most importantly, enjoyable. The two main characters, Honey Trap and Rabid Rabbit (known as Hayate) are looking to team up for justice and to take out the evil organization known as Antinoid. They create sort-of mech-like beingsand various devices. It seems Antinoid consists of 4 main people who seek to do evil things, though at times you begin to question whether they're truly bad or not.
Honey Trap was formerly apart of this organization, but due to a misunderstanding, was fired. After previously encountering Rabid Rabbit in a mission prior to her leave, she actually falls in love with her, though it is only one-sided thus far. Honey Trap tells Hayate (Rabid Rabbit) that she is no longer apart of Antinoid and believes that Hayate would hate her. But, Hayate says that no matter what, she wants to help people whether they are friend or foe. Thus, Honey's love for Hayate grows deeper and their friendship begins.
There is a plot, but most of the chapters are usually just slice-of-lifey. We experience how Honey and Hayate experience their days together and apart and how they grow closer to one another in such a short amount of time. There are also some moments of great backstory from Hayate, telling us how she originally became a Hero and the struggles she faced.
My interest lies in nearly every aspect of this manga. The art style is really pleasant and looks phenomenal, the characters aren't boring and are a joy to see in action, the settings and backgrounds always look top-notch, and the premise is interesting. I love to see Honey and Hayate interact, biding my time until they one day might get together, or until Honey truly professes her love. I'm a sucker for romance, and this gets my heart racing at times. (Edit: I forgot to mention, there are some action elements. I mean, Hero is in the name. The action is great too. But, to be honest, it can feel a little hard to keep up with it from panel to panel at times. So be ready for some action, romance, and comdey.)
I mentioned it being a Shoujo Ai, so expect to see A LOT of female characters. That's about it.
There aren't many chapters out there yet (translated, there are only 12 chapters from what I have read), but it's still fun and gets me excited of what's to come. I do hope for more, it makes me happy.
About the topic: Hero-san to Moto Onna Kanbu-san or HeroKan is a series that belongs to the Yuri and Tokutatsu genres at the same time. A rather rare topic when the Yuri genre goes with Tokutatsu. About the art and character design: - The series has a fairly generic drawing style, but not too bad so it can still be read without being annoying. - The female characters are very cute, with each having their own distinctive appearance and costumes. The design of the armor of the protagonist and antagonist is very cool, with a strong Kamen Rider style. (Fun fact: Although many people say that Rapid Rabbit'sarmor is similar to Kamen Rider Build, the drawings were made before Kamen Rider Build was announced. Both were in 2017)
About the plot: The series does a relatively good job in the development of the characters' emotions, but it is only acceptable because the number of chapters is quite short so it does not explore deeply enough. If the number of times the main couple interacted with each other could be increased, it would be more convincing. And like many Toku series, the ending is quite predictable, such as using friendship or the power of love to defeat the antagonist.
About the characters:
- Protagonist: The main couple is quite adorable. The love story between a lonely hero and a former general is quite interesting and the journey is also very lovely.
- Villain: Final boss X - is the boss of the villain organization, at first she is ignorant and quite stupid, but later on she is revealed to be an extremely scheming person. But when she admits that she also loves Honey Trap, it is quite hasty and unconvincing. Loving someone just because they are also lonely is quite :V (nothing to say). Cool Down is a general under X, when X is most helpless, she is the one who helps X take the final step to destroy humanity. Cool Down can be seen as more of a final boss than X. This type of person is also not unfamiliar to Toku viewers, the commander or boss is not really that strong or powerful, but thanks to someone pulling the strings or transmitting power, they become the final obstacle. Melt Down and Kyouka are a supporting couple of this manga, at the end of the story, they turned around and helped the main character to protect the planet. If there were more scenes of them interacting with many things around Earth or with humans, it would be more reasonable.
Overall, there are many criticisms of the villain, but if you are an easy-going person or watch for fun and to kill time, this is a quite interesting manga with a new and interesting theme.
This turned out way better than I expected from a "yuri tokusatsu". A short Yuri Hime serialization that hits all the beats of a Kamen Rider style plot line while parodying it. It's a comedy, so it doesn't take itself too seriously except when it comes to the main pairing and love. Good pacing and good art, too, with some good action. I do wish we could see more of the suits, though. They aren't my favourite and the designs may be a bit too convoluted, but they are still fairly pretty. It's difficult to admire them in many of the denser action panels. Also, poor Moedidn't get much time to shine in an arc that was practically dedicated to her and her search for her own identity. It doesn't have to be 50 episodes long, but a few more chapters could have gone a long way.
All in all, solid manga. Just wish it had more content to flesh out all the characters that bit more.
