Reviews for The Girl I Want is so Handsome!
Back to MangaIkemensugi desu Shiki-senpai! is a very feel good slice of life about a senpai x kohai relationship. It being so short with only 10 chapters does a good job delivering a wholesome high school romance. I don’t think it does anything too special story wise but for the 10 chapters it has I’d manages to flesh out the 2 main characters. It sticks to the classic high school yuri romance tropes and does them well. It also has pretty good pacing for such a short story. As for the art is say it’s above average, I really enjoyed the multiple facial reactions from themain character Hina. However it’s a little generic but manages to be very cute. If you want a simple feel good shojo ai Ikemensugi desu Shiki-senpai! is your manga.
Quite unexpected! I guess I read a little too many Mangas with unbalanced pace, so I'm actually surprised the author had it balanced it here. It started fast, was fast in the middle and ended fast as well. Nice! I mean, there were still slow moments, so it's not like it was constantly going back and forth. Overall the pace was balanced, without spending too much time on unnecessary drama. There were still lots of misunderstands, but got cleared up quickly. I also imagined the story a little different. I thought it would be typical Manga comedy with thousand chapters, where the MC desperately tries to approachtheir crush, but just ends up failing in a hilarious way. Basically what I think of when someone says "rom-com".
While there was still basic comedy of AniManga with the nose-bleeding, for example, the author did not "waste" many chapters on the approach. They actually go on a date already in the first volume.
But I'm not disappointed at all. It was a fresh breath for the genre.
What I didn't entirely like was that the main couple doesn't have that much chemistry... it's not non-existent or anything, but you probably wouldn't guess right away that they're together, if you were in a room with them. But that also kinda makes it more realistic?
On the other hand, the side couple was nice. Also a bit unexpected, as they had main-couple-energy.
It was cool overall tho. And cute. Recommend it.

In almost every same-sex romance manga there's always more than one gay couple. Gay co-workers, classmates, or even siblings. The gay characters are surrounded by other gay people. "You gay? Me too!!" Story: Unfortunately a very generic beginning. A small cute girl falls in love with the star of the basketball team and decides to become a manager. Frankly this is the laziest way to write romance... There's no passion, no surprises, no originality. The dating and slice-of-life is also very generic. Rain leads to a fever, which means a home visit and rice-porridge. This manga is full of the things you always see in manga. The story has practically nothing that is making it stand out, except for the fact that it's about two girls. I guess that the only good thing about the plot is that you know exactly what you will get. No freaky plot-twists like "omg, we are siblings!?", just a boring but predictable story that will take you to the exact ending you've seen before.
Art: I guess the selling point of this manga is the art. The art is good and eye catching. It has cute chibi art, adorable facial expressions and a great cover image. No fan-service at all, so the cuteness is the focal point. Unfortunately, they don't use the flowery screentones to match the cuteness. But yeah, I bought this manga because of the art, I enjoyed it because of the art. But in the end, that's not enough.
Overall. This manga played it safe. The first meeting, the events happening in the middle and eventually the ending. It's all about scenarios that have been done before and proven to work. Nothing new or interesting. There's no excitement. It's just about following the train-tracks that so many other romance manga have traveled before. Boys Love / Girls Love manga is so common these days that it's impossible to find the truly good ones. And while this one was at least worth price I payed, it's not a story worth recommending...
