Reviews for Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest
Back to MangaI was hoping.... Yeah, what was I actually hoping for? That the writing would get better and the fan service take a step back? Guess I was hoping in vain. 7 chapters in and we've already lost one of the main characters' credibility. *sigh* Minor spoiler about the "Quest" ahead.. Remember Natsu? The guy RAISED by a dragon? Who LOVED Igneel and thought well of dragons except for the evil ones running rampant? Yup, the same guy now sets off on a quest to "seal" some dragons without even bothering to ask why. And initially he thought he'd just beat them to a pulp because he didn't thinktwice about what sealing actually meant.
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY? If we think of Natsu, he should be the first one to jump in the defense of dragons and being vary of sealing dragons just for for the sake of sealing them.
So those dragons COULD destroy the world. Well, duh. Obvious for pretty much every dragon out there. Considering that the fictional world is pretty much peaceful, it means those dragons haven't set out to go on a rampage and terrorize everyone like Acnologia did. Yet Natsu sets out to seal them?! Give me a break. The real Natsu would have a blast searching for and meeting those dragons - not sealing them for having done nothing wrong.
Character relationships have not developed one bit. Rather the opposite if I may say so. The tiny couple scraps we got in the last chapter of FT were entirely ignored as well. No pairings here, nothing.
The fan service got to a level where at least one female needed to loose all her clothes twice a chapter. Give me a f---ing break. Just do a hentai spin-off and be done with it already! I don't mind if there's a bit of fan service now and then. Every demographic probably has that. But it's not necessary to have EVERY damn woman except for 2 Loli characters have E+ cups and apparently not enough clothing to cover her butt cheeks. It's just gotten tasteless. Sure, I'm a straight woman, so I may be biased. But even the guys I talked with were annoyed by the level of fanservice this has reached. You can't have blood and big wounds in this manga but this level of porn?! And it gets a PG-13 rating?! I mean... seriously...
FT could be so much more... Please just stop this farce and concentrate on the story and world... *sigh*
Has "Fairy Tail" has left a void in your heart? Fear not, for "Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest" is here. For those of you who have already read "Fairy Tail", I'm happy to say that the feel and flow of "Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest" is so far similar to the early/middle portion of the original story and along with having the same starring characters; having this sequel it's just like the original never ended at all. That void left in my heart from the ending of it's initial run was filled immediately. I'm not sure if it is the nostalgia factor that is making meenjoy this so much, but either way I'm happy with it so far.
For those of you who have not already read "Fairy Tail", it's not required to do so and the story is still enjoyable without the prerequisite knowledge. Although, to understand some jokes and nuances, I would highly recommend reading the original series first. (There also have been spoilers for the original series in this sequel.)
I am looking forward to reading each chapter as it is released, and I hope that you will give "Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest" a try too.
I wanted to state something first, and I think a lot of people can agree with me that the last Fairy Tail arc was disappointing and the final chapter being a major letdown. I was glad to hear that a new series is coming up and boy... it still hasn't changed one little bit. Story: (4) It's really fucken predictable, the thing I hated so much in the original Fairy Tail was the fact that every arc had the same formula, - Everyone is living in peace and harmony - The villain shows up with little to no explanation. - They get hyped up to be "very strong." -Everyone gets beaten to a pulp
- Natsu, Erza, or anyone really pulls something out of their ass cheeks and spout out that "they must protect their friends."
- The villain that hyped up to be so strong gets defeated, and in the next arc he or she is turns into cannon fodder, a jobber for the next "villain" to get hyped up, they get forgotten, or they become friends who barely help the main group out.
Let me tell you something, it gets very fucken old after the third-fifth time... And it seems it's happening again, we get a new villain getting hyped up to be the "strongest ever" til the next "strongest ever" shows up, the White Mage, and we get five new Dragons, God Dragons, (who need God Slayers amirite?) who are even stronger or just as strong as Arcnologia... Why? I can tell you one thing though, I already know the ending to every arc is going to be.... And the only reason why I should even read the arc is because the author loves to add bullshit convenient plot twists that won't affect the series at all in the long run.
Art: (8) The Art is the best thing I can say about this manga, and it's average lol. The ecchi is something I forgot to touch upon, but I can ignore it... to a certain extent. "What woman in the right mind would wear that?!"
Character: (7) I just want a fun slice of life manga with all these characters, they have the best personalities I can ask for, Natsu is awesome when he's not pulling friendship out of his two asscheeks, Gray and Juvia is always funny and cute to read, Gajeel is just my favorite character in general, Erza can be comedic also when she's also not asspulling, and Lucy can be well-written when she's not "well-drawn." Every character has their charm, they are the thing that make me keep on reading this manga and this would've been a 10 out of 10 if in any other manga, but the thing is that they're in a badly written, predictable, flawed, and forgettable story like Fairy Tail.
Enjoyment: (5) It's cringey, edgy, and just a chore to read through when it tries to get serious. When it comes to the characters being themselves, I can tell you this, it's a really good read, but sadly this manga won't give me more of those moments.
Overall: (6) I wish it had a cool 2-10 year time skip where all the characters are all matured and can justify themselves being so strong, but it didn't.
I wish the villains were more developed and can feel like a legitimate threat, but they never are.
I wish we can just have a simple arc where the Fairy Tail guild is simply defeated, giving them a reason to train to get stronger without having to pull something out of their anus, but they never lose because friendship.
And I wish we can have an arc that doesn't have to involve a villain planning to destroy or change the world, but we won't.
Hardcore fans will give it a read and go meh and regular fans won't even realize this sequel exists. As for me, I'll still read it as long as the manga continues, but will ever become the manga I wish it'll become? Nope lol.
~Shaney.
P.s, I'll eat shit if it magically does follow my wishes.
MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD Well, here we are again. Fairy Tail continues off from where it last left off, being that Natsu and the main crew go on the 100 year quest. This quest is to seal off the remaining dragons in "Earth Land" (I actually didn't know what the name of the world was called so I looked it up. Kind of a weird name). During this time, the remaining members of Fairy Tail receive a new member, Touka. This member so happens to be someone that Jellal is looking for, and she is presumed to be someone evil and the creator of Liberius, an evilwhite mage cult. Touka is supposedly as strong as Zeref, but we don't have enough information yet. Will the main crew be able to overcome this quest? Will they fail? Is Touka actually evil and strong? Well don't ask me.
Enough about the general story thus far.
S T O R Y - So far, the story is okay. It's really not great, but it isn't horrible either. Continuing on with the 100 year quest truly opens up so many more doors for this series. It shows A TON of potential for new characters, powers, and more world building. Does this make it good? I don't really know. How the prequel ended still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and I'm still concerned with how the overall plot with play out with the sequel. I hope that at the very least, it won't be disappointing.
A R T - I've always enjoyed Fairy Tail's art style. It's always been pleasing to look at, and quite unique compared to others. Ueda Atsuo does a great job at drawing and matching Hiro Mashima's style.
C H A R A C T E R - The characters are practically the same as before. You can determine that for yourself. Did you enjoy Fairy Tail's characters or did you not? Personally I really liked them. They were characters I truly enjoyed watching and seeing them grow is a nice experience. If anything Natsu was the most plain since he matches many other MCs in the Shonen genre, similar to Naruto and Luffy. Acting very dumb and clumsy but in battle they are an absolute beast. I think that many of the other characters felt more unique and weren't some sort of cliche character compared to other anime/manga. There are many new characters introduced as well, with that comes new powers. SPOILER RIGHT HERE: We're introduced to a new generation of Dragon Slayers, Dragon Eaters. They kill dragons and steal their power by eating them. We meet three so far, and they are part of the Dragon Eater guild named Diabolos. I think it's pretty weird to introduce a new generation, but I guess it works out. Hopefully it'll be used well.
E N J O Y M E N T - I'm somewhat enjoying the sequel so far. It's not great or bad. It just continues on where the prequel left off so it never felt like Fairy Tail truly ended.
My overall is a 7/10. I've always enjoyed the series, but the ending of the prequel always keeps me on edge now. I'm truly paranoid because I want this sequel to do much better than it's predecessor, but I feel like it will be a real disappointment. I'm just waiting to see how it plays out.
T H E E N D
I actually like this sequel better than the original series. Sure, it's still the same trope all over with extensive fan service. However, the tone is far less serious than the original, and new characters keep on coming even with zero hint of the plot so far about their sudden appearance. The manga repeats itself so much that it becomes kinda brainless fun action sequence, and people should just enjoy it and do not expect something deeper than that. Overall, FT100YQ is recommended for people looking for some fun pastime, because it's really fun, instead of looking for coherent, decent story-telling.
Best days of my life watching this marvelous Anime. I've been a fan since 2013 I know I'm not a veteran fan to FT and I wish I could turn back time to be as thrilled as now to wait for every Ep. and I wish I started watching it since 2009. I cried, laughed, and got mad and excited watching it! I never experienced these kinds of emotions in my whole life. I learned a lot from every character ESPECIALLY from my hero Natsu D.just fanservice . . . maybe because I'm a girl it doesn't affect me haha, anyways thank u Mashima sensei <3 (Now I'm watching it from the very first season for the 3rd time and finished it at the moment, sadly the last season is airing right now I feel happy and sad at the same time >_< T_____T
I know i will feel empty juts like when the manga ended and I don't know what to do T______T I hope the 100-year quest will get anime too
If you are like me, the main Fairy tail story ending probably left a void in your heart. Personally, Fairy tail was how I discovered this entire world of anime and manga so it was obviously very dear to my heart and nothing can replace the very first anime you watched. So you can imagine how happy I was when I found out there is a whole sequel spin-off series for it!! Honestly, the story is as good as the main series. Sometimes, I feel like it could even be called better. Yeah, they have nonsensical elements here and there but honestly that is what Fairytail has always been about. At first I felt like the sequel was an excuse to just get all the pairings to be canon, which I wouldn't complain about, but the more I read it the more i realized how well planned and executed the story actually is. It makes an effort to connect the plot holes and loose ends in the main story, it has compelling new characters but at the same time, a lot of attention is also given to the original side characters who didn't have much of a chance to shine before. The story arc and structure is pretty cool and most importantly, It's the same Fairy Tail I grew to know and love and I'm so glad that Mashima decided to make this sequel.
The art and characters are great. Mashima just has this beautiful artstyle which is very reminiscent of 2000s anime and as for the characters, even though they are just as chaotic as ever, you can also see how much they have matured since the start of the main series. Yeah they are overpowered at times, yes the 'power of friendship' is used as a plot device at times but I don't mind it, cause its Fairy Tail. It's the classic shonen manga that makes you want to dive into its world and leave on a journey alongside the characters, and it has the most perfect cast of characters for it.
In short it's basically Fairy Tail the manga part 2. If you liked the original manga you will probably like this too, if you didn't maybe you won't. But I do feel like it's still worth your time. Fairytail has mostly been known for how hilarious it is and 100 year quest definitely holds up to it. It's still a great read even If you are a new reader, but you do miss out on a lot of the overarching plot so checking out the main story first is the best course of action if you fully want to enjoy this manga.
Overall, if you're a fan of classic shonen and good humor, this manga is for you. I am pretty sure most of you'll here and either from the main manga or anime and are wondering if this is worth your time. All I want to say is 100 years quest shows just how much Mashima cares about his creation and his fans. No, it isn't absolutely necessary to read but I totally recommend that you do cause if you liked the original story even a tiny bit, you definitely won't be disappointed with 100 years quest.
Similar to other people, Fairy Tail has given me a "void" in my heart, most of us wanted to drop it by the "last" arc of Fairy Tail which was just... you know messed up I guess, it could have been at least decent but Mashima wasted off it, especially the villains, the forgettable spriggan 12, and the OVERhyped... trust me TRULY OVERhyped Acnologia who got wasted off in mere chapters. But, this is about the new manga 100-year quest which is obviously not even near as popular as the original run of Fairy Tail, but I think PERSONALLY that people should at least givethe first 10 chapters a try... well here I go.
The story is actually really good, especially the first 2 arcs, it was a masterpiece actually, it is comparable or even greater to GREAT arcs like Tenrou Island and GMG - Part 1 and Tartoros - Climax; since many people liked these arcs I think if people gave Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest a try they will like it. You see, this is about a quest which was not been accomplished for over a century, and the quest is to find the Dragon Gods... well along the way there are many problems and the Dragon Gods themselves are the worst, and the other problem AT THE FIRST HALF OF THIS MANGA is Touka, a "sweet" girl which is a new spirit to the guild Fairy Tail, and without spoilers, this is all I can state, but I enjoyed this.
Next, the Fairy Tail guild members are the same with some romantic character developments, and almost no distinctive different character traits, well it still doesn't mean I did not like the guild members, I actually LOVE all of them they are like family to me and no matter what that won't change to me even if they may get boring, but the main characters have a lot going on, but from what I saw they did not change much either, well my favorite part about the romantic character development I talked about is probably Natsu growing a bit of a lust for Lucy I guess lol, but the new characters that they are showing through this adaption are GREAT, actually gave me lots of surprises unlike the new characters in the "final" arc, but I won't spoil it.
I don't have anything to say about the art, it's good but I personally liked Mahima's art more, it felt more attractive to me, while the new artist's art is a bit bland, it is expansional at special scenes and fight scenes.
The fight results are really really good right now, it is fair and there are new characters that have GREAT powers, and in the second because of a "condition" in an arc, there are SO MUCH interesting fights which I think MANY people deserve to read, I AM SO EXCITED FOR "that" to be animated lol.
My overall enjoyment for this adaption is very high, the fan service is the same as the original run, and the comedy scenes are well... laughable sometimes it has bland jokes, but that's fine I don't mind it.

A review on Fairy tail 100 years quest, some spoilers Story-1 The story made no sense, so apparently, there are 5 ''god dragons'' These dragons are so powerful and famous and well known that they're named the God Dragons no one has been able to kill them for at least a 100 years. So if they're so well known and famous where were they when Acknologia supposedly the KING OF ALL DRAGONS was looking for a strong fight or was going to destroy the world...I guess they were just sleeping right? Not only that but now there is an entire guild of a brand new generation ofDragonslayers that want to kill the god dragons because why not. The story doesn't make sense since dragons and dragon slayers were supposed to be almost extinct and everybody assumed they were all dead but whatever I guess. Fairy tail is still just the same old get beat up by enemies, scream about Nakama than just win with friendship
Art-4
Not really much to say about the art, it stayed exactly the same it's just okay, nothing new or fancy looking.
Character-1
The characters haven't grown or changed at all, they're exactly the same and will stay that way, never facing a real challenge that motivates any growth at all. Natsu still just punches everything and gets fired up, Lucy is still half naked all the time because of fanservice, wendy-same, gray still always just the forgotten rival to Natsu, and Erzas just op Erza, and the cats are just cats.
Enjoyment/OVerall-1
It's probably insanely clear that I don't like or enjoy fairy tail, I had a lot of hope that this new series would change things and I would start liking it like when I first started watching/reading but no its the same.
A huge improvement over last arc. It still lacks depth of Tartoras arc. The tone is somewhat similar to older Fairy Tail. The pacing lacks bit of coherence considering author is managing two story line within same manga at same time. The villains are quite good and Dragon Gods are frankly easy on eye. Also the new person who is drawing has great eye for design. Designs looks really pretty. All in all a nice treat for fans and on fence readers. First few chapters are slow and boring but story keeps getting better and chapter improve. The fight scenes between Natsu and one ofthe dragon God is lit. Also is inter-play between various character. Some portion seems off like Gray left visiblely upset Juvia hanging out to dry after making statement and is not showing any feeling. Gajeel and Juvia randomly do some sleuthing stuff that go nowhere. Levy is slightly miffed with Gajeel. Jellal sans his team appears and is taken prisoner while his team makes zero effort to search for him.
Some of the parts are great. Laxus has developed well. And Touka feels like she will have Zeref for breakfast. It feels warm to see Fairy Tail back on its feet again. Saber tooth is going to have bigger role. And for dragon slayer the role will become bigger....
Fairy Tail changed a bit with 100 Years Quest, or rather it just feels that way. It will be a jarring experience for anyone to come from the original manga, or the anime, at the height of its development and epic delivery, to... this. While enjoyable to established fans, I would not necessarily recommend to people who weren't overly sold on the series to begin with. It feels detached from the main series, has questionable character decisions and feels more-of-the-same in a lot of chapters. The premise is interesting, but there is little emphasis on our actual characters beyond the immediate fight or event. WhenI picked up 100 Years Quest, it was in the hopes that I might find more closure with the cast and their relationships, and I am not finding any of it here (yet). All that said, I am enjoying it. I will continue to read them as they are published, because I am a die-hard FT fan at heart, but it is not my opinion that it is not in the same league as Fairy Tail.
So Fairy Tail is likely my favourite series, I've loved it since I first picked it up. I didn't actually know about 100 years quest until I saw it come up on my usual manga site. I could immediately tell that it was a different artist and writer- the characters have said things that seem really out of character, the art isn't as good. And it just seems forced. There are times when it seems far more like fan fiction than a continuation of the story. Fairy Tail is one of the few series that would really get my emotions involved, but this series justdoesn't.
And then the story...
**Very minor spoilers***:
They have a lot of explaining to do about the pentadrakes, especially considering Acnologia's desire to wipe all dragons out. And Gildarts had taken on this quest, never bothered to tell Natsu he was hunting dragons (which at the time Natsu didn't even know still were around). And then he faces off with Acnologia, so surely Acnologia knows of the pentadrakes?
Igneel never bothered to mention his own son to Natsu?
Then there's Touka. She's going after powerful mages, but never went
after Alvarez? You know, the whole city-state of powerful mages? Perhaps she feared Zeref, but Zeref spent a lot of time away from Alvarez.
And why would Jellal not bring concerns to Makarov?
There had better be a romance scene with Jellal and Erza. To me that was one of the more disappointing parts of the last chapter of Fairy Tail. That had been building for the whole series, then at the end, nothing?
***End Spoilers***
I trust Hiro Mashima, I've enjoyed all of his work, and I know he's still involved in Fairy Tail, but his focus is on Eden's Zero. So I want to have faith that it will improve, but it's not looking that way thus far.
So in summary, if you really need your fix, I suggest rewatching or re-reading. Unless some major changes take place in the series, it's not worth it. I'll likely keep reading out of some hope it will get better, but I don't recommend that to others!
Goddamit Mashima. I can look past Fair Tail's errors and weak points. But this manga is something diffrent. This is a hot mess. Heads up, this will be quite spoilery. So at the time of writing this, FT:100yq is quite bad. DragonBall Super Anime bad. You could already tell by the end of fairy tail that mashima was losing interest in the story and just wanted to move on and make something new. Incomes Kondansha and forces him to drag the story on and on and now here is this sequel manga that he doesn't even draw himself.Plot:
Basically, natsu and friends are doing quest that nobody completed in over a 100 years, thus the name. And what do they have to do? Seal the dragon gods... god dragons... whatever, big strong lizard people.
Do they at any point question why the quest was created, why someone wants all the dragon god peoples sealed - not really. i mean they don't seal the first dragon, just beat the shit out of him until he becomes good.
The second dragon, they fucking kill. Because i guess he was evil, but it was never explained why he was, he just was.
Currently the story is headed for the third dragon and it's a mess.
So the way it looks like the story will just be Team Natsu going from place to place and beating up evil dragons until eventually all of them are sealed or become good guys. I bet once they some big evil dude will show up and be like "finally now i can do my evil thing" and they have to fight him too. That's how cheap and predictable the writing is. Mashima does not give a F.
The Fan Service problem:
The amount of bad fan service has become ridicoulus. I honestly feel bad for lucy, being forcefully and unconsentually stripped every over chapter whilest clearly being emberassed as heck. I wonder, since mashima doesn't draw the manga, does he even plan the fanservice or is the artist going of the rail?
Generally, if a chapter is focused on a girl of the group, there is a fat chance there will be either stupid strip humor and/or weird camera angles.
The story is actively being interrupted just so little boys reading the manga can wonder why their pants suddenly got tighter.
Characters:
And what about fan service in the form of writing? EH.
Levi got the preggers, big deal, exept it ain't. Levi and Gajeel are a thing now, even tho it is at best a minor sublot. Grey is finally trying to figure out what he wants to be with juvia, but only about a 50 chapters in or so and so far has done jack all but talk think about it.
And then there is the NaLu situation. There is just nothing going on at all.
Even when they go to edolas and meet their counter parts (which are older than them because timeskip, magic bla bla.) and see that they already are married and have kids. And they don't fucking talk. Or interact. OR DO ANYTHING TO DEVELOP THEIR RELATIONSHIP.
Natsu's aditude is non existent. He does not care at all. And lucy is just flustered and shuts in. WHY AREN'T THEY TAKING A MOMENT AND TALK ABOUT STUFF FOR JUST ONE FREAKING CHAPTER, IT MIGHT ASWELL BE OFF SCREEN AND ONLY ALUDED TO, BUT GIVE US SOMETHING DAMMIT.
Enjoyment:
Fairy Tail's biggest strength was it's characters, but in this sequel they are just painfully dull. It feels like a fanfic writen by a hardcore dragonball fan that things super is the best anime of all time. It's just battle and lack luster comedy stringed together.
And the worst thing is, it didn't have to be this bad. Mashima's Eden Zero is a huge improvment, where he drops bad writing habits and does way less fanservice. It just shows how little the man cares anymore about fairy tail.
It like the nightmare scene from toystory 2 where andy throws Woody into the bin and says "I don't wanna play with you anymore".
Recommended Alternatives:
-Read Edens Zero.
-Pretend natsu kissed lucy in the last chapter of fairy tail and that this manga doesn't exist.
-Read the fanfic by KatieTheTerrible on wattpad. Despite being a wattpad fanfic, it reads like a proper light novel and somehow has better writing than all of fairy tail. (it's writen by a upcoming novelist, while most over fanfic are writen by angsty and/or horny teens).
Would i recomment Fairy Tail: 100 year quest?
Nope, i hate it.
Will i continue reading it anyways?
Yes. If i can watch rwby, i can read this shit.
Gonna update this review when the manga is done.
I am going to break this down into categories to make the review much easier to read based off what is going on. To Start, (Spoilers below) Plot: The plot of the story is Team Natsu going on a quest called the 100 Years Quest (A quest uncompleted for almost 100 years). They meet Elefsaria who is the creator of the 1st Magic Guild in the history of Earth Land. He is also a dragon similar to Acnologia. He is known as the Law Dragon which is based around Knowledge/information. Something happened in the past leading to Elefsaria seeking out Wizards to seal the 5 Dragon Gods. This doesn't require killing them but it does require defeating them in some way.
The plot is centered around Team Natsu as they got permission from Makarov to take on this quest so just Lucy, Natsu, Erza, Wendy, Gray, and the Cats. Which is perfect cause it allows Mashima/Ueda to focus on a smaller cast and not requiring tons of extra pages for 20+ other characters. So if you come into this expecting a bunch of SaberTooth you will be disappointed or even a bunch of others like Mira, Levy, Gajeel, ect... you will also be disappointed.
Now this doesn't mean all those characters are nonexistent, they just have far less involvement in the story which makes sense considering the plot of what is going on. Laxus, and Gajeel make appearances and Laxus has actually gotten a good amount. Other characters have also gotten moments and have been kept around having their own goals as well. Such as Brandish (Wants to find Aquarius Key so on the same continent and competing with Lucy), Irene (Wants a new body of her own, and has been mentoring Wendy), Jellal (Searching for the white wizard, also relationship development with Erza), Juvia (Relationship development with Gray). So there are some side characters being utilized. Even some of the fodder from FT was used such as Max and others and even received training from some Spriggan 12 members.
Overall the Dragons have all been good and so far we have met Mercuphobia (Water Dragon God), Aldoron (Wood Dragon God), Selene (Moon Dragon God), Ignia (Fire Dragon God), Dogramag (Haven't really met but popped up, Labyrinth Dragon?), Viernes (Haven't met yet but is either the Gold Dragon God).
Selene was and has remained excellent and the best female Villain to date from Mashima she has been a joy to experience. Ignia has been ruthless and is a complete lunatic and very strong. Mercuphobia was a kinder dragon that changed after he met a woman he loved but lost control of his magic. Aldoron was insane and killed hundreds of thousands of people to sustain his own life and power.
Overall these parts of the story have been handled very well.
Characters:
Lucy - Has been the most developed character in 100YQ with all kinds of new abilities. She is still showing her very high intelligence and has been the character to really shine. Star Dress Mixes, Star Dresses, New abilities being used, Defeating very strong opponents (Even a Dragon Slayer), and has really just held her own in fights all series long so far. Even Laxus acknowledged how strong she has become and is still growing. Even have gotten more relationship development with Natsu but has been subtle compared to the others but makes sense since she is the Heroine and one of the main 2 characters so that will come last. Edolas Lucy and Natsu are married and have a daughter named Nasha which is a big hint and deal.
Natsu - Has shown signs of PTSD from what happened in original FT. He has learned to be more ruthless when necessary and has learned sometimes you just can't redeem someone. Thus he killed Aldoron. Natsu has also shown signs of relationship development with Lucy and has even shown jealousy a few times. He refused to attack her out of fear of hurting her as well during an arc where she was possessed essentially. He has shown signs of forgiving his brother and holding him close to his heart (Beta Heaven chapter). Natsu has also shown flashes of END once again returning and maybe even a combined form with his Demon Powers/Dragon Slayer powers coming in the future. He lost control after eating Ignia's flames to save everyone and he wanted to burn everything after defeating Mercuphobia and we saw elements of his END form mixed with Dragon Force. Thankfully the 1 person that could calm him down was there (Lucy) and she hugged him burning herself and he snapped out of it.
Wendy - Has probably been the 2nd most developed character but it has also come at a cost. While she is growing in power and new abilities sometimes it feels like she has been hijacked by Irene and not really her own character anymore which is a damn shame. But, overall Wendy has been really good and we even got to see a brief Teen Version of her. She has shown off new abilities and they have been really nice.
Erza - She's really just been the same character but with relationship development with Jellal which has been the only thing keeping her interesting outside of like a couple fights. She has had 2 good fights in 100YQ the rest were the usual (That's Erza for ya moments) but Erza vs Laxus and both fights with Kiria were good for her. Shown some new abilities but for the most part the other fights were real let downs.
Gray - Has been the most underutilized character in comparison to the others. But he has a goal for this quest and has been sticking to it. Wants to be stronger and a better man and then go get Juvia the woman he loves and has confirmed himself. Their relationship has grown so much and tbh not sure why people complain about this cause its what most of his fans wanted. He has had some good fights too and new abilities used. He is just not at the front like Lucy and Wendy. Needs to use Demon Slayer magic more though.
Laxus - has had some really cool moments and fights especially. Defeating Erza, Kiria, Skullion, and Madmole and just remaining the normal Laxus. But, he has shown changes in personality and morals being Fairy Tails defender while team Natsu is gone on the quest and is likely the next Guild Master. Even has some ship teasing with Kiria which has been nice.
New Characters:
Kiria - She has been awesome and always so enjoyable to see get time in the series. She is crazy, strong, great personality, cool abilities, great design, ect... Even some ship teasing with Laxus. She has been involved in numerous good fights and always just a blast to witness. Really want to keep seeing more of her too. She is a fan favorite and clearly one of the best in the Diabolos Guild (New Dragon Slayer Guild)
Skullion - Was good at the start and is the Ash/Corpse Dragon Slayer, cool abilities but has basically taken a back seat at this point.
Madmole - I personally dislike him and find him not doing much. Armor Dragon Slayer
Suzaku - Black Dragon Slayer Knight, Very cool abilities, Very strong (One Shot Natsu and Erza), fought with a Dragon God on his own, very cool Design, great personality, and has just been a great addition to the series. Very much want to see more of him.
Kirin - Black Dragon Slayer Knight, Don't know much yet but he carries a coffin around with the Soul of a King locked inside giving him more power. He put a beating on Laxus.
Misaki - Black Dragon Slayer Knight, Great design, cool abilities, and has a nice personality. Unfortunately was involved in a fight that started off good but got the usual (That's Erza for ya) and the fight was ruined. Hope to see her again as she was cool and really nice design like I said.
Haku - Black Dragon Slayer Knight, People will not like him for the most part, he has a crush on Wendy and really that took over his character. Didn't get to see the full extent of his powers but maybe later on. He is a young boy though.
Neball/Nebaru - Sticky Dragon Slayer, much like a spider tbh. He had a really good design and even showed us a Dragon Force from the new group of Dragon Slayers called Dragon Eaters. He wasn't supposed to cause their dragon force turns them into dragons faster but his design got crazy cool and he was insane. He put a huge beating on Wendy.
Wraith - Ghost Dragon Slayer, served his purpose, had really cool magic, and was revealed to be a former member of Fairy Tail back when Makarov was just a member. Wraith had been killed a long time ago and his Spirit that wasn't at peace still couldn't pass over and we ended up getting to see a reunion of him and Makarov which was well done.
Overall Characters have been interesting and good. But there have been some shit ones.
Art: Has been good and very reminiscent of Fairy Tails. Some dislike it or just simply want to hate cause it isn't Mashima drawing. But, Mashima himself has stated he loves the new look given by Atsuo Ueda mixing his own style with Mashima's and I actually agree. There are even some things I think he draws better than Mashima.
Closing this out:
100 Years Quest has had a lot of really good moments and a lot of development characters really needed and some that just deserved more than they got. Introduced new fun characters/enemies which is a plus. It has done well to keep some of the feel of OG Fairy Tail while also making it feel different and just better imo. If you liked OG Fairy Tail you will like this most likely unless you're just expecting tons of Gajeel, Levy, Sabertooth, and side characters like that. It has a focus and a plan as Mashima stated so its nice that its not all being written on the fly.
Overall I rate it a 9 because it does a good job and does still have faults as any series does. But I find it really enjoyable.
Hello, and welcome to my first manga review on this site (or anywhere)! Fairy tail is... how do I put it, hated by a lot of people for some valid reasons: and even as a massive fairy tail fan myself I can agree that it has some inconstancies that could hinder the viewing experience for some. However that was the original fairy tail we are talking about 100 year quest now and oh boy is it a upgrade on almost every way. I'm writing this review now because otherwise I would have to wait a few years for the manga to wrap up. However, wehave seen enough of what 100 year quest has to offer in order to formulate a review: so without further ado we will now commence the actual review.
Story:
This story is a cannon and direct continuation from the ending of fairy tail. The story here is that team Natsu has to kill, seal or immobilise the 5 dragon gods left around the world in a effort to complete the 100 year quest, and this is where peoples biggest gripe with fairy tail gets completely destroyed, the world building. Throughout the story thus far we have visited more locations then the original fairy tail in just 117 chapters! and the best part is that it doesn't feel forced and the characters introduced are memorable and also are not forced down your throat. The story is always intense and gory at times as well which hasn't been seen since the Erza torture scene from the tartaros arc, this is a welcome change however it will most likely be censored in the upcoming anime adaptation which is unfortunate. The dragon gods actually feel formidable and threating as the main antagonists and especially the moon dragon God who I wont spoil don't worry. Overall 100 year quest fixes almost every inconstancy the original had and added more.
9/10
Characters:
Once again the fairy tail cast is amazing and was the main thing that made fairy tail my favourite anime in the first place. Every character new and old is exiting and enjoyable to watch interact with each other. One big thing I really appreciate is the focus on Wendy's character and her growth as both a dragon slayer and a person. She has the help of Irene or Erza's mother if you forgot, and this gives her new powers as well as something absolutely massive which i cant say for spoilers sake. We even get to see Edolas again after so many years which was fantastic both as fanservis and as a genuine connection to yet another world called Elentir. Oh and Gajeel and Levy have big surprise for an fairy tail fan ;). Great villains, the main cast is more enjoyable then ever and that classic fanservise that fans love is all still here.
10/10
Enjoyability:
This is a touchy subject especially as most people have completely written of fairy tail as a "poor mans one piece." This may seem a tab bias as I am the biggest fairy tail nerd there is only earth currently but 100 year quest is way better then og fairy tail so far, its a big statement but I genuinely mean it. And as much as I still love og fairy tail, 100 year quest outshines it in everyway. However yo udo need to watch fairy tail or read it before this or you will not understand anything. I genuinely believe that even non fairy tail fans will absolutely adore this manga. Werther it be new transformations or destroying a exceed fused with a human, 100 year quest is fantastic from start to not yet finish.
10/10
I'm loving this sequel so much. Its like the original never ended! It's awesome to see Lucy use her star dresses, something we only got a taste of in the original. Some are complaining about the fan service never toning down and well it wasn't ever going to. It's a Shonen fan service Manga marketed to adolescent boys 🤷♀️ lol. All of the characters are experiencing more character development and relationships are evolving. It's a fun story. It's got all the antics we love about team natsu. I've enjoyed every chapter. I've laughed out loud while reading it. Maybe I'm biased since I'msuch a big fairy tail stan, but I think it's worth the read if you want more of what we had in the original Manga.
I gotta say at first I wasn't sure how good it was gonna be, the first few chapters I feel like Atsuo Ueda was just getting into the art style of Mashima Hiro but then the story got going and I am really into it! It's somehow a bit more cute then the original but just as creative, I like that they bring back all sorts of characters through it and relationships have developed for most people..... although I will be disappointed if Lucy and Natsu don't get together by the end haha. I don't want the 100 year quest to end just like theoriginal. I hope Fairy Tail goes on forever. Thank you Mashima Hiro and Atsuo Ueda!
I love Fairy Tail so much, and I've been a fan for years, so as someone who's read all the existing spin offs, I was so excited for the sequel. The word "disapointment" is an understatment for what this is. They reduce every character down to whatever their two strongest character traits were in the original, and half of them are now only focused on the other half of their ship. There's none of the character depth from the original, and many characters, like Gray, change completely to fit the ship naritive. That by itself is enough to dismantle the entire story. Not to spoila moment of this terrible series, but there is literal vore that appears out of no where and without warning. It's no longer fanservice at that point, it's disturbing.
The story was garbage and doesn't match up to the morals the characters have shown to have (Natsu, specifically), but that can be chalked up to what I have already mentioned. the characters are reduced to nothing but a shell of who they were formerly.
The art is really wonky in places as well, and it only gets worse throughout the series. I have seen panels from far ahead of where I stopped. They're horrid. I wishI could rate this sequel a 0.
