Reviews for My Boo
Back to MangaLet me start off by saying that if you are the kind of reader than needs a story with rainbows and unicorns where everybody has the happy ending that they deserve, then this is not the story for you. I don't mean that in a condescending way - I just want to make it clear that this is not a heart-warming story, and that I can easily see why some people disliked it. I would not describe this story as uplifting, or light-hearted, or comedic, or inspiring, or even happy. Why did I rate it a 10 then, do you ask? Because despite how sadit made me feel, I have the upmost respect for the author for not pulling any punches or taking the easy way out in the end. The author put her characters on a path and followed through with it.
I have never felt as sad as I have when reading this manhwa with any other story that I have ever watched or read. I hurt. With the scenarios that the author created, I felt the same frustration, unfulfilled longing, and sadness that the characters felt. When the main characters hurt, In a way, it made me feel as ifI was in Yuri's place, not just observing her story, because I felt so emotionally connected to what was happening. By the end of the story, I had tears streaming down my face.
If I could use one word to describe this manhwa, it would be "bittersweet". If you are fine with reading a story where things don't all turn out well in the end, then I HIGHLY recommend that you read this. The synopsis had me expecting a story that was cheesy, corny, and trite, but in reality, it was anything but that.
The description does a terrible job of explaining the synopsis so I'll tell you here. Yuri So has had the ability to talk to ghosts ever since she was a little girl. With the fact that people are constantly begging her to communicate with their dead friends/family combined with a traumatic experience with a ghost when she was young, she has grown to hate ghosts and drifted away from people. She is excited to live in her new house alone but then after she moves, she discovers a ghost named Jun Ko who is around her age living there. At first she tries to ignorehim because he assumes she can't see him, but that all changes one night after he suddenly kisses her and she falls out of bed, surprised. He is shocked she can see him. The story is about them learning to cooperate and become friends and possibly more than that.
Story (6): The story is this manga's weakness. It starts off good but starts to drag on, and slow down. Near the middle/end I started to get a little bored but my will to find out how it ended is what drove me on.
Art (7): The art was well drawn in each panel. It was not bad and the author did a good job so I don't want to criticize it, but the art was definitely not one of the story's most prominent features. The character designs were simple.
Character (8): The interaction and progression of characters was definitely the most interesting part about this. The author did a very good job making the romance seem unforced. A lot of times, manga authors force characters to fall in love at the drop of a hat, however, love finds it into this story in a slow, natural way which makes what they have with each other special. It is also what makes the ending all the more heart breaking. Another amazing thing about this is the character development of the main character, Yuri So. She matures and learns to face her problems instead of running away like she always did. She becomes a lot more compassionate towards people as well and forms a meaningful relationship, something her life lacked until then. She becomes a lot more assertive and confident in what she believes in.
Overall (8): I am writing this review a couple weeks after I finished reading. I couldn't bring myself to. I won't spoil things but this manga really f**ked me up. It has a really sad ending- the kind that you find yourself thinking about at random times in the day afterwords because it effected you so much. But please, do not let this turn you away. I personally read this on Webtoon (which is a very good platform for reading manga/comics) and it only took me a day to get through this one. I couldn't stop reading. I recommend this manga if you enjoy reading things with meaningful relationships and sad endings
The story actually started off being wonderful! You get really interested in whats going to happen and how the two characters are going to deal with the fact ones alive and ones dead, and worst of all they can't even touch. However, the more you read it. The more boring it gets. It slowly drags on and the characters start getting really annoying. The only reason I kept reading it was because I was curious to see what would happen to the ghost. It started off wonderfully, but then turned out to be very hard to keep reading. Worst of all, they ended it off HORRIBLY. Seriously, the ending made meso angry.
However, if you're really into romance and especially ghost romance then you might like it. I really like romance mangas, but this one was just not the best.
Nah this made me cry fr I don't think I've been so invested so soon by a relationship between two people that takes place primarily in one house. Even just seeing them quickly become friends - albeit through shared loneliness - warmed my heart so much. The author does a great job of making these characters feel so real, from little things like Yeori wanting to make her home full of things she liked even though she was only planning on staying there for a year, because why live even a day badly when you can make it better (she should really take her own advice more!) Ithink this is highlighted so much as we get to know the two of them, the more we find out about Joon, the more tragic his situation becomes. For a character who feels so full of life all the time, how awful is it that he died so suddenly when it was just starting?? On the other end you have Yeori, a woman who takes it mostly day by day, not looking forward to anything. With a character like her, the intense relationship she forms with Joon could have gone in a very very unfortunate direction. I'll admit myself to almost wanting her character to become a ghost just so they could both be happy 😓 She ALMOST decides to do this as well - and who knows the Yeori at the start might've!! But as sad as it was, their relationship could only have gone one way (I'm getting teary just thinking about it..)
Anyway, hug your loved ones, hold hands, the power of touch is something I'll never take for granted again!
The plot itself of the story is quite interesting (romance between ghost and living) so if it intrigues your interest then i would definitely recommend it. This manhwa is about romance, so it mostly revolves around two main characters. Character development is not bad, pretty decent i would say. The story is easy to understand, not very complex, staight forward and simple. Art is not the best but still pretty. In the beginning of the story, characters are well introduced, pacing is not too slow or not too fast so it doesn't make you feel bored. In the middle of the story character developments are verydecent and romance between two main characters are well built, i think. However the ending felt a bit rushed. There was a few plot holes, making the story confusing. Anything other than the romance was not very interesting or relevant, resulting lack of depth in story. Like i said the story is simple, maybe too simple.
Still it was a decent read, and i would recommend it to anyone who find ghost romance interesting. It was only two hours read and i really enjoyed it.
I can't stop crying! It's so heartwarming! I don't know what to write...I just thought it would really be hurtful be I was in her situation. I just love it ...to the point my heart is breaking apart! I hope everyone lives a happy life. Art: 10/10 ( according to the genre, the art is perfect) The art is coloured lightly, that's the art exactly fits tragedy. Character: 9/10 (there weren't STRONG romance) Tragedy: 10/10 ( I have to fix my heart soon because that's not my story.)Story: 9/10 or 10 (I gave 9 because if the tragedy was more tragedy, I would have died from crying a lot.)
