Reviews for Ingoshima
Back to MangaBunch of students trapped in an island filled with violent natives. well it could be interesting, sadly the story is kinda dumbdumb, also the main character [Keita] is hella dumb dude, i mean why is he taking so long to take the effin HINT just to screw up some plan. oh well the art is cool and i enjoyed it just because i love the survival type genre. and also the stay for the bewbs... That being said, the is manga still publishing and i would love to see where the authore takes it. the special squad for the baddies makes it interesting i guess Note: Hategrotesque and a bit gore? stay away this is not for you, if you can handle [DEAD] Tube, then ur fine...
It's not good. This is the manga equivalent of an exploitation movie. You're here to see one thing and one thing only, violence. I'm 50 chapters behind and have no way to get caught up to tell you of anything interesting happens. What have seen in the 160 chapters I've read is scant and miserable. What plot does exist just drags on and has too many characters for it's own good. Star Wars didn't have this many assholes running around at one time in a galaxy spanning war and this is a micro nation that every world power has somehow missed.
I begin by apologizing for the mistakes I will make because English is not my native language. Ingoshima is a disgusting and horrible manga but it works, because even if while reading it you feel like throwing up for some scenes, you always manage not to drop them, the credit for all this goes to Mesuko Amashita who created such a compelling story, he manages to make you so curious to know how the story will go on and if the protagonists manage to escape from the island saving as many people as possible. There are some of the most disgusting scenes I have ever seen andthese scenes are the rape scenes, I must say they made me seriously ill, but this is one of Mesuko's intentions and he managed to do it divinely.
Another thing I loved about this manga is the character design and the design in general, in this case I have to seriously congratulate Tanaka Yoshiki for his skill.
My reaction to this manga is mixed, as reflected in my recommendation. I think that some people will enjoy this manga, while others will find it distasteful or outright disgusting. Story: This is the classic “stranded with violent savages” story that you find in media like Cannibal Holocaust or The Green Inferno, although this trope goes back a long time. This manga does a fairly decent take on it. A group of students and teachers is trapped on an island after being shipwrecked, and they find the island is inhabited by a violent tribe of savage beast-men. There is a mystery element with the tribe andthe shipwreck(s), as well as a survivalist element and a major driving plot point of needing to rescue captured members of the group.
Art: The art is a little hit or miss, but is for the most part good. There is a good eye for making things intentionally gross or disgusting, which adds an uncomfortable rawness (this discomfort will be good for readers that like the seedy vibes and violence. The ecchi elements are drawn well, with sexy and well-proportioned women and some muscled men. Whether you like the context of the ecchi is up to you.
Characters: The characters are alright. There are quite a few of them, so I have a hard time getting a strong personality from some of them, while others are more defined.
Okay, on to the distasteful elements. First off, it’s pretty damn racist. This whole genre of “brown savages attack the civilized man” has hugely racist undertones in general, and this comic is no different with some of the tribespeople being portrayed as inhuman or subhuman. There are zombie-type people that I give a pass to because that’s totally different, but some of the tribespeople are just portrayed as these inhuman, savage monsters with Caribbean accents and distorted, racialized features. I’m not overly sensitive about problematic or somewhat offensive media and I’m still reading it, but it does feel a little gross at times. The other big thing is that this comic is extremely exploitative of its female characters. For the most part they are not capable or active participants, they are objects to be kidnapped and saved, with a ton of sexual abuse. You can get a vibe by looking at the covers of the volumes, which feature women partially clothed, sometimes bound or bruised and clearly in distress with strong vibes of sexual abuse and sexual violence. The themes of sexual violence are very strong in the plot, which combines with the racist tropes in a way that can feel very off-putting – it sometimes has the vibe of “look at these savage black subhumans, of course they’re violent rapists!”
6/10 – I think this manga is okay, and while some people will enjoy it, others will find it very off-putting. If you can look past some of the unsavory elements and treat them as ultimately just schlocky tropes, it can be a fun read. However, others are going to find it unenjoyable and gross.
