Reviews for Siscon Ani to Brocon Imouto ga Shoujiki ni Nattara
Back to MangaThere are people that will hate this series by default because they don't agree with the brother-sister genre entirely but I have to say this manga does an amazing job showing everything the genre has to offer. The point isn't that she's his sister, the point is that she is the closest person in the world to him. He falls in love with her because they share all the same interests and look out for each other and because he can't imagine being with anyone else. It isn't something you have to want a relationship with your own sister to enjoy, it is simply a lovestory between two incredibly close people and the whole forbidden aspect of the relationship just adds some tension to spice things up.
The important thing to remember is that fantasy is by definition not reality and the inability to distinguish between the two means you are literally insane. So if you can't enjoy a heartfelt story about two people that fall in love and have to sneak around because you are projecting yourself and your own sister onto them then you actually have a mental problem. If you dislike this story because of the characters themselves and not the genre that is fine but I'm sick of people having an instant "oh that makes me want to puke" reaction to everything that comes out of a specific genre because they want to show off what a mature and healthy person they are (that can't differentiate a fictional manga from reality).
Anyways onto the story itself: I don't want to spoil anything so I won't touch on specifics but it is full of moments that made me laugh, warmed my heart, and was just a fantastic read so far. I'm a sucker for love stories but this is one of the best I've seen. Also unlike a hundred billion other romance series this relationship actually has seen some progress in the 17 chapters that are currently available so it doesn't look like a complete waste of time for readers that might want to pick it up and see something actually progress and not just the same recycled jokes for hundreds of chapters.
You have no idea how long I've been waiting for something like this It's like a best of both worlds between a doujin/hentai and manga/anime +wincest (something that is done half assedly on manga #it is always step siblings or bad end#) +art like something you find in manga or really good doujin +their feelings for each other becomes obvious from title on (ambiguity thrown out) +focuses on the story without worrying for the page limit (like most doujin cuz half of it needs to be actual action so it ends up skipping a few million steps) This is like basically everything i was missingHonestly i need more of this crossbreed
This is my first review, and I'm leaving it because this is the first time I've finished a manga on the release day of the final chapter, so it's quite an event for me! I didn't know what I was in for with this manga but I got exactly what I wanted I think. Overall 9: Great Manga, if you like this type of manga I strongly suggest it. It's a short read, but well worth it. It's a much more lighthearted approach to a brother/sister love story. I'll add a semi-spoiler down the bottom because I do consider this to be quite unique among theother manga I've read.
Art: 6 : because, though the character design is great and the characters are cute! it definitely feels a little off at times, and there are some dynamic scenes that do not look right.
Character: 10 : because you don't really hate anybody, and they don't act too different from how you would expect. Plus Uta is cute.
Enjoyment: 10 : because this is what I wanted. Cute romance they need to hide from the world. Plenty of fluff.
Story: 9 : It doesn't necessarily have a lot going on, just day to day for the most part, then it eventually hits some drama like most slice-of-life's do. I'm not one to want the drama to go on too long, my poor heart can only take so much pain. But siscon/brocon blows through the drama at record speed, the last few chapters feel rather rushed for that reason.
The biggest problem when reading these types of stories is they often pull out half-measures on the ending, trying to keep publishers and people who wouldn't even read this type of manga, happy. This one has the follow through to a happy ending with no half measures.
(Semi Spoiler)
Something I want to add onto the end: I feel like there's always a few special moments in manga's and anime's that'll stick with you forever. For me, in this manga it's the speech following "Uta, why do you think it is couples get married?" It's moments like that, that make this Manga rather unique to me. Most of the time incest romances involve the characters hating the fact they fell in love with their sibling, hating themselves, wishing it was different. Ritsu and Uta aren't rejecting or embracing it, but they have a different view on the situation and overall seem happy that they love each other.
There are a lot of ways Brocon and Siscon is presented in Mangas, but this series has shown that sometimes direct is by far best approach. One of the reasons why this felt so charming to read was that it was clear how much feelings the MCs had for each other. Throughout the Manga, elements are present that constantly remind you: “this is a love story between siblings”, which is what sets this Manga apart from the rest, and showcases a model approach of presenting incest successfully and appealingly, other than the simple taboo factor. Progression in this Manga goes at an excellent pace (given the, unfortunately short, number of chapters it has), and enough light-hearted/charming moments are filled in between to make progression feel neither rushed nor stale.
A masterclass of the Manga is how it handles the bitter moments. This Manga successfully portrays moments that make you feel uncomfortable, bitter, or angered, but never enough to actually ruin the experience. In fact, these bitter moments are thoughtfully handled in such a way that it uses the small amount of negative emotions it created, and instead of letting it brew into a storm of “why am I reading this when I feel miserable doing so”, it enhances the next sweet/heartwarming scene by being dispelled, creating a contrast that makes the scene extra memorable (eg end of volume 3).
A small pitfall towards my previous point comes near the end of the manga. The ending wasn’t handled as gracefully as can be, since there didn’t feel like there was any special moments that made the ending of the manga too memorable. Even though they had sex, the manga didn’t fully explore the dynamic shift or impact that it had. I’m not saying it must be lewd (it wasn’t), but a better indication than just a single panel of them in bed would be appreciated.
Finally, the artstyle was absolutely phenomenal. The main focus of the Manga is Uta, and the artists did incredible to create a vivid and distinct representation of her. The artstyle struck a balance that perfectly represented the duel identity of Uta: A cute Imouto but also your girlfriend. The outstanding portrayal of Uta is one of the reasons why I will perceptively remember her, despite the fact that her character design does not feature anything glaringly dramatic, and also one of the many reasons I consider this manga a 10/10
[SPOILER ALERT!!!!!] Plot: 4/10 After read this manga, almost 80% of the initial chapters of this manga had very strange conflict fluctuations. Conflicts could come on suddenly, but they could be resolved very quickly. The climax of the conflicts really developed very quickly and ended very quickly. However, 20% of this manga was truly a crisis. Suddenly, the plot fell free becomes gloomy, full of despair and confusion, out-of-society things, etc. How did they get caught by classmates, rivals, even their own parents. Each of them resolved quite "fast" like the previous chapters but in this final chapter the conflict was much heavier and it was onanother level than the previous chapters. This is certainly not strange because the plot was carried out with only 48 chapters in total, and it cannot be denied that it's quite short for a story like this.
About the ending, with very great and kawaii art, but it's immoral, yet there's no plot-twist (like "that they are not blood-related siblings" and stuff), this is a pretty smooth, yet a fair ending. They know the consequences of their decision (such as not being able to have children, getting married legally, etc.) but they stay together until the end. This is a fairly a fair ending with all the circumstances they faced from start to finish without hurting many parties. But from the bottom of my heart, some part of me really support them, and I grateful for their sail. But some part of me really reject this ending (of course, because I still have common sense which leads to this being very unhealthy socially) ALTHOUGH THIS IS JUST FICTIVE, MOREOVER THIS IS 2D, but still this part of me totally reject this ending no matter what.
Art: 10/10
spoiled with the excellent artstyle from @hanoharu who is very cute, sweet, beautiful, etc. (especially as a male reader, I really love Uta), it's been a long time since I found the imouto character again with high-socks, twintails, cute voice (depends how you imagine it), kawaii face, small-to-middle breast, proportional body posture, etc. that related to "most image of imouto in this industry" or I can say Uta is "nation imouto", but it's really nostalgic (because it's been a long time since I rediscovered a character like this) and the impact is tremendous for my heart. Of course, Ami should be an honourable mention. The kind-hearted, supportives, and straightforward gyaru.
The scenes are really aesthetic, fresh, and absolutely beautiful. It really works in detail and I really enjoy the drawing.
My thoughts:
Because of this inner struggle to accept an ending like this, it looks like this manga will be the last time I read about "sister brother romcom" because the impact of this manga is enough to make my heart upset. As if there is a conflict and fight in my heart when I think of this manga.
"You don't need to take it seriously about this manga". For anyone who says that, we have different perspectives on how to respond the ending. Some end up just plain without thinking about it, some end up with depression for couple of days, some end up with thinking about it a whole night then forgot already about it, some ended up with won't read this kind of stuff again. That's the difference. This is just a pure opinion and response from myself, do not equate yourself with others. Please take note of that.
Overall, it's 6/10, fast-solved conflict, most-of cute funny romcom with great arts, high gap level on conflict in the final chapters, fair-ending which made conflicts in the heart, manga with biggest impact, to the point that I won't to read the manga about "brother sister romcom" again for temporarily, even forever. This may be the last manga that I read about "brother sister romcom".
This is a vanilla sibling incest romance SOL story which isn't terrible or outstanding. It has all the elements one might want out of a taboo love story and the characters are likeable but somewhat flat at times. There's angst as expected but the story takes an overall optimistic tone. The plot is reasonably realistic despite the silly sounding premise and I was able to connect with the characters and their struggles. The siblings' relationship contained a good amount of ambiguity in the transition between stereotypical close siblings and incestuous lovers over it's development, without overly stressing the "will they won't they." You'll likely cometo read this if you like the genre, and it may be a decent one to pipeline your besties with.
Story: 7. I think it's good. It's niche as F because it's literally a story of a brother and sister dating and kissing and stuff. Taboo as hell. So I guess if that's what gets your rocks off, then damn this is real good lol. I didn't score this story higher because the pacing was a bit all over the place. I felt like it slowed down quite a bit near the end, and the middle was a bit too quick... Also it's still odd... called me old fashioned lol. The reaction from the parents wasn't how I hoped. But hey, I love a goodlove story and this was written pretty well for its content. So I'm happy with a 7.
Art: 9. Fantastic art, not sloppy and lots of detail and great scenes. I really like the multipage style where a scene can go across 2 pages. Very cool.
Character: 8. The writing of the two main characters and the way they interact with others (school mates, parents, etc) is very good. It's literally what made this story believable, and gave me a sense of sympathy and emotion to the characters. This delicate subject would be easy to blow open and have the story go to shit, but good job author, you really did a good job here.
Overall, I gave it a 7. It's a well written story for a such a taboo topic, and it's a love story so hey... But I couldn't stop reading. I can't say that I felt emotional or turned on from all of it, but I was much more curious as to what the author was going to make of the story. This kind of stuff is super challenging to someones writing ability and I was quite impressed.
I’m really disappointed at all the people that rated bad this just because there is incest. I mean, you already knew what you were getting into. If Incest disgust you that mutch, then don’t read. Now, onto the introduction: This is one of the best romcom mangas that I have read, the characters are wholesomes, the support cast is great, the story and plot are simple, but they do a great job, the art is great and finally they do a great job with the incest theme. What do I mean by that? You see, most (I say most to avoid saying all) incest mangaare erotic and they never have a decent relationship, this in the only manga with this theme that does a great job! The story makes sense, neither sister nor brother are an obsessive yandere/tsundere and they have reasons to be in love. If you don’t find incest very disgusting, and you want a great romcom manga then this is for you. Here goes my review:
A) WRITING: [45/50]
1. Story (14/15)
A simple but wholesome story.
2. Plot (13/15)
A great plot, I love how the support characters find out about the relationship between the MCs. My only complaint would be that the ending it’s a bit rushed. I would have loved 3 or 4 more chapters dedicated to the ending, but since this is a dōjinshi it’s fine. (There is another manga dedicated to the after story, it's a oneshot so I will count it as an extra chapter)
3. Characters (18/20)
Great MCs and great support cast.
B) ART: [19/30]
4. Characters (10/15)
We have a simple but cute art for the characters. It's nothing amazing, but it does the job.
5. Backgrounds (9/15)
The backgrounds are also simple, and in a lot of cases there aren’t any since the characters cover almost all the image (In some cases there aren’t backgrounds just to save time I guess).
C) PERSONAL: [20/20]
6. Quality Consistency (5/5)
All the chapters are good.
8. Chapters readed (5/5)
Read the whole thing.
9. Enjoyment (10/10)
I really enjoyed this!
FINAL SCORE: 84/100
This is what I'm looking for in a romance story. Don't get me wrong, I'm not into incest, I only like it because it creates a lot of tension in the story I swear. I don't remember laughing out loud while reading but I thought some parts were funny. The story is basically just about the siblings trying to have a relationship and keeping it hidden for obvious reasons adding tension to the story. I don't remember the character development that well but I think it happens. The only thing that really irks me is the beginning part with the MC's reason for not beingable to hang out with his friends (come on there were other things you could have used as an excuse). Anyway, this is pretty good, would recommend to romance readers.
Some people here rating this show badly because of the content as if the title didn't exactly tell them what they were getting into beforehand.. I feel like that has severely impacted what the actual rating should be, so I will rate it slightly higher than I think it should be.. Technically I think this should be an 8, not a 9, but I'll make it a 9 to hopefully offset some other narrowminded people, or at the very least because it makes me slightly salty. Now, as for the manga, I don't think I ever went from "Oww", to "Eww", to "Aww" that quick. The further yougo into it, it actually gets wholesome, and dramatic, something that wouldn't have been possible it they had slapped the "step" sticker onto it.
We all know that meme, the slapping the duct tape on the leak ad with the word "step" in the caption.
Well, I mean we all understand it's fiction right? So trying to be edgy and shocking while slapping the word step onto it in hindsight is cowardly to me, in this case the author did not, he fully committed, and it made the story that much more interesting and dramatic.
If only people would just step out of their comfortzones, separate fiction from reality, and keep reading even though the back of their minds is telling them "Eww", eventually they'd get to the "Aww".
Unfortunately it seems not everyone is able to do that..
I for one find it a very compelling story so far, one that is not afraid to commit, and doesn't feel the need to grasp for emergency ropes such as "step" or "adopted", out of fear for public opinion, and it makes for better storytelling in my opionion.
Do I think this would be okay in real life? No. Just like I don't with many other fictional topics, hence the word fiction.
Edit:
Soo, I finished the whole thing, and I gotta deduct at least a point, first there wasn't nearly enough outrage, it seemed weirdly unnatural, the friends were instantly over it and accepting, so was the mother, also there was one particular person (I won't spoil it) that knew, but didn't seem even slightly disturbed, not even surprised, and there was this weird thing about playing games or something that was just brought up every time as if he was some sort of casanova because he was good at videogames, which makes no sense but also was written in a way that just seemed very forced.
I think in the end I'd give it a 7.6 to 7.8, so rounding up it'd be an 8, which is still very good
Siscon Ani to Brocon Imouto ga Shoujiki ni Nattara was a manga I first encountered whe nI saw a panel of it in a meme I decided to check it out the night before and got enjoyed it so much I finished it the same night I read it. The art of the manga is good, I wouldn't consider anything innovative but the girls in it are cute and it isn't absolute eyesore to look at. The story is something I really like about this as instead of doing what the big series like Oreimo and Ero-manga sensei do where it is just a haremwith the main girl being the little sister the story does just focus on it being just them and not having alot of other girls come in and compete for the main character's affection. I also enjoyed how the story was pretty wholesome alot of the way through and not really focusing on any echhi stuff and being funny with wholesome between the love interests. Overall I personally think it was great and I prefer it over other series like Oreimo and Ero-manga sensei.
This was shockingly boring, for a taboo story. When media has incest as its main theme, there is an expectation of conflict. It is, after all, not only against the social contract, it is also literally against the law. The fact that this story stars minors also adds to the expectation of drama, since it means they don’t have the advantages of adult life, such as economic independence. Ritsu and Uta have a happy, healthy relationship with their friends and parents, which makes their secret all the heavier because if it gets out, it could destroy everything. Except it never does! When the rival heroine finds outthe big secret, there’s never even a threat of putting it all out there. She just agrees to keep it, and goes on to support the happy, incestuous couple. When the friend group finds out, they’re upset for less than 24 hours, after which they even apologize for their reaction. Hell, when the parents find out, they only one actually mad about it is the father, who still puts his son through school and apparently college, too? Just, what the hell.
It’s not that I want these characters to suffer, particularly. I just want stuff to matter, to feel as if actions have consequences. But the biggest one in this story is the father giving Ritsu the cold shoulder. He didn’t kick Ritsu out of the house, discuss separating him from Uta by sending one away, or even try to involve the law. He just ignored his son for the rest of the time it took for the kid to graduate, after which he even congratulated him on it. It’s all so boring.
Even the approach to the relationship feels like this. The characters’ ages mean the story cannot rely on fanservice to fill the time, so it instead abuses the most overused romance tropes found in fiction. Making Valentine’s chocolate, saving up to buy a birthday present, going ice-skating. These tropes are popular for a reason – good writing can make any scenario feel fresh with the right approach, and they can be great as character studies. But in this manga the biggest character exploration happens toward the end, when Ritsu is forced to figure out what to do after school. The rest of the time, the whole story is carried by Uta looking cute and blushing at her brother, who does the same but is visually boring in comparison to her.
Hell, even the basic premise of “only acting like lovers when outside the house” is thrown out of the window quickly enough, since they sure kiss a lot in Ritsu’s room, particularly. It could have worked, if it laid the ground for the parents to start suspecting them before the big reveal. But no, their rooms are clearly safe space, which makes the final part feels even cheaper, since Ritsu and Uta could have just gone there and avoid being caught humping by their parents, but again – overused, boring tropes.
I wasn’t expecting this manga to be good, but I wasn’t expecting it to be this boring. Even the art – which is not bad, not exactly, but it is not memorable either. The most remarkable thing about it is how it was clearly made with Clip Studio, since the default “Frills” brush is used a lot. Besides that, there weren’t really any panels that stood out to me, scenes that I will be thinking about years down the line. For visual media, this isn’t good.
Honestly, to me, the only memorable part of this story was Ami, whose dedication to her studies in order to be allowed her dye and accessories struck me as genuinely interesting, and someone I would love to see more of. Hell, even the flashy guy and Hotaru were more engaging, and they’re basically a joke couple. But they had so much more going on than Uta and Ritsu.
So… Don’t bother with this story. Even badly-aged anime like “Maze: The Megaburst Space” had an infinitely more interesting approach to this kind of taboo, and it was a comparatively minor part of that story. Meanwhile, this manga had multiple volumes to make me care, and only succeeded in inspiring minor apathy. There’s just better stuff to read out there than this insipid pile of nothing.
It's fine. It didn't fill my expectations but it's not bad. It's a good, short vanilla story to read a little bit of in your free time and make your day a little bit sweeter... It did upset me how they had so many potential and created so many situations, just to end it right after. It seems like it was intentional from the author that it were to be only a short story without much into it... But we clearly could have gotten so much more... Many situations are created and just not developed, so we keep with the same for all the manga(YES THEY NEVER FUCK TOO)... Because of that, the pacing felt too fast for me; there's no suspense, no slowburn, the bit of them preteding to be lovers doesn't last long and they just assume eachother really fast. They don't go through a lot of dificulties, their friends accept them really fast, and they don't have big problems with their parents too. The scene were the parents discover their relashionship is really shocking tho, i like that. The author really likes some melodrama but they don't really take the time to develop these situations, which is so sad, we could have gotten soo much more than short chapters XDD but still, it's fine. I love the art, it fits the manga perfectly and it's so comfy.
Now, about the worst thing about this manga...AMI. What is even the point of that character??? Sometimes, she really feels like a real human being, she could have been a good character and even a good friend that play games with them. But she never got developed. She just kept appearing but her appearences were pointless. It can't be just fan service because there were already all of Uta's friends and Ami for some reason got emphasis in a lot of random panels?? But she never really did something useful for the story?? She made Uta jealous, ok, it was alright the first time, but after that Ami's aparisons were just pointless and disrespectful to Uta. And then she confesses to Ritsu and i'm like "ok... but who cares", LITERALLY WHO CARES ABOUT THIS BITCH?? Why does she keep appearing, and why there's always a character like this in romance mangas, it's so disgusting. She keeps trying to "compete" for Ritsu even after he's already dating Uta, like, what are you even competing for??? The only thing i can credit her for is for using her brain a little bit more and stepped away after confessing to Ritsu. BUT then she appears AGAIN being friends with Uta but we don't even get to see that happening??????? What??? WHAT IS THE POINT OF HER???
Also i hate how they draw Uta's hair in the last chapter. It's so ugly eww i hate it when there's a timeskip and the characters just look uglier in the future. Just make them looking like the same, it haven't even been that long anyway bruh.
Anyway it's fine. Really cute manga, comfy vibes. We could have had much more but it's still okay... -1 star because of Ami tho
Unlike most series, this manga completely delivers on the promise that is given in the title. I went in with high expectations and it exceeded them. It avoids all of the most common pitfalls that plague the Romance genre. 1. There are no lame twists that undermine the premise of the story. 2. The relationship progresses at a steady rate. You'll see more progress in the first 3 chapters than you typically get in 40 chapters of other traditional romance manga. 3. Minimal love triangles, will-they-won't-they, etc. The story is dedicated to exploring the relationship itself, and the drama of the taboo. The author doesn't disrespect the readeror waste their time.
4. There is never a time where a misunderstanding or a miscommunication causes the relationship to go off the rails and drag the story out for 10-20 chapters. Any misunderstandings are typically resolved within 1-3 chapters. This is because the characters are capable of open and honest communication, and they don't wait 3 weeks to discuss a small misunderstanding. They do it immediately or the very next day, as real humans would do.
The story does a really good job of balancing realism with wish fulfillment: They don't live in a fantasy world where everyone treats their relationship as normal, but it's also not so bogged down in realism that it becomes an unsatisfying tragedy. I won't tell you how it ends, but go back to my first line of this review and consider that. If this manga was made for you, then you won't be disappointed.
