Reviews for A Wild Last Boss Appeared!
Back to Manga"Some guy get's killed or is suddenly taken into a different world with all these new powers and is insanely strong" Sound familiar ? With these stories coming out that seem to want to take advantage of the popularity of this genre and stories such as Overlord. It is hard to find a story that is actually unique and offers something new. But Yasei no Last Boss ga Arawareta! is a nice little star in this sea of darkness. While the story does involve a character being brought into a new world and having a ton of these amazing powers. This story doesn'thave the story revolve around this the MC being overpowered and doesn't have every character be arrogant and annoying while claiming no one can beat them. It also doesn't have all these females going after the MC and wanting to sleep with them.
This story is seeming to decide more on the story and lore of the world while having an emotional feel to the story. Such as how your companions would react to seeing you again after 200 years after thinking you were dead. It does actually have some emotional feel going on and is different than any other story with the same premise going on. In those stories. Whenever a emotional thing is meant to be happening. We are just told what to feel. We aren't shown why or how the character feels . Yasei no Last Boss ga Arawareta! actually takes time to explain what's going on what's happening.
Like i mentioned before this story doesn't have all these chicks trying to go and sleep with the MC. The MC does have a couple chicks around. But they haven't shown the slightest sexual interest in the MC ( May just have to do with the MC being a female, Just maybe..)
The girls around the MC aren't annoying and they have pretty adorable designs without any of them being dressed very slutty.
But like i mentioned earlier the MC is a female in this. MC was a guy but turned into his female character he made in a game. The issue with is the fact the MC doesn't have much if any reaction to being a Female, New Body or being in a new world. I tended to not even think about this while reading. But now that i think about it it's kind of weird imo to have him not show any care to it really. I do love stories with gender bending elements. They tend to be funny and interesting imo.
Something else worth of note is the stuff going on with the MC and the character the MC created. The MC inhabiting his character he created is having the memories of that character. So when the MC get's sad about something that happened awhile ago it actually makes sense. Cause the MC remembers this stuff happening. It's kind of like the MC is becoming the character. Kind of hope they expand more on this. It's a nice touch that i haven't really seen before. It is something that i always thought of when reading story with X becoming someone else. I always wonder what about the person they became ? Kind of want to know what the character is thinking. Such as having the character be a phantom while constantly being around the MC in their body.
This is a nice story that made me feel an emotion on a story. Only emotion i tend to feel in any type of media is anger at stupid stories. So this being able to hit the feels was surprising. Even more so when you look at the story only being 5 chapters in so far. If the story keeps going like it is i could see this being a really good story. Hell, I can see this being turned into a anime with. The art style of this makes me want too that.
Lastly i'm calling it that the MC was always the chick ( I can't remember how to spell her name) to begin with. It makes even more sense with the MC remember the chicks memory.
Edit: Just read the 6th chapter and it's a goddamn *trap* Why ? Why couldn't it just be a female only harem ?!?
When I began reading this I wasn't expecting a unique or interesting experience. I, probably just like everyone else was just looking for another fun isekai to pass the time. It's got "last boss" in its name for god's sake, that's not exactly an indication of originality. But when browsing through these countless monotonous stories, you sometimes stumble onto something that makes you think "Wow, this is actually really good." and this is one of those works. At the start, this just sounds like another Overlord copy. A guy who was the top player in an MMO is suddenly summoned into the world of the gameas his character, overpowering every NPC in his way. But as the story progresses it reveals countless clever, original ideas and concepts while also staying true to itself and not sinking into the realm of forced subverted expectations or edginess. Instead of completely distancing itself from the usual tropes and worldbuilding of the genre, it embraces its flaws and provides answers to how these things would actually work or why they exist in the first place. Such as: why is there a level cap? What happened to the mind of the character when the mc took over? Why are certain 'monsters' persecuted despite their intelligence? And why are the demons so hellbent on attacking humanity?
Not only are these answers, well, there, but also genuinely interesting and clever. And despite its high quality, it never becomes heavy or a chore to read. It never drags, and the cool stuff is mixed in with a healthy amount of humour and satisfying overpoweredness.
Yasei no Last Boss ga Arawareta!: Kokuyoku no Haou won't make you think, and it won't give you a new perspective on anything. But it will give you a fun time and several moments of "Wow, that's really cool.". Worth a read if you've ever enjoyed anything from the isekai genre. Strong 7.
You know the manga is good when you're approaching the last translated chapter and start to slow down, cause you want it to last just a little bit longer before you put it on hold. Story: 8 Art: 7 Character: 8 Enjoyment: 9 Overall: 8 In short, this is definitely one of the few isekais that I can certainly recommend as a read to almost anyone. With so many of them out there, what it comes down to is the execution of the idea. Isekai is just a trope in the end. It is popular today, something else will be popular in another 10 years, but what matters is howyou develop your story and the ideas that you put into it.
The author of this one certainly managed to do an amazing job with that. What you got here is a standard isekai formula: some dude gets reincarnated into his MMO character, he's OP AF, and starts to gather companions for that or another goal. What is rare to see in this genre though is an amazing work with the world and its lore, combined with perfectly reasonable motivations for your characters and avoidance of the majority of cliched tropes for the confrontations and such. It's truly incredible how the author manages to cleverly subvert most of the tropes in the genre, while retaining all the fun parts of it.
I don't wanna spoil anything, but it's such a refreshing feeling to just read an isekai manga where everything just clicks into place. The MC has to struggle with quite an interesting and unconventional problem. The supporting cast is fun, varied and enjoyable. The story is intriguing, fairly brutal, and has quite a few surprises. And, most importantly, there's hardly a time when you think to yourself "Why are you doing that?", "Why didn't you ask about that?", "How could you miss that it's right beneath your nose" and such. This probably shows how averagely written most of the stories are today, when the author just writes a story without characters eating a dumb pill from time to time for the convenience of the plot and you are surprised by it. Yeah, there are a bunch of Deus Ex Machinas here and there, but it's easy to ignore them because everything else is so tight.
What else? Well, it's genuinely funny for the most part and the art is really good most of the time.
Who needs to read this? I'd say anyone who is on an isekai spree like me. Anyone who wants a refresher from all the other similar stories. Anyone who's interested in an interesting lawful evil setup for the world similar to the Overlord series (it's really closer to the true neutral side, but gives off a lot of similar vibes).
Really, it was a joy to read through this and the only problem I have is that I'd need to wait 3 or 4 more years to get another 40 chapters of this joy.
I'm struggling between an 8 and a 9 as a score here, but leaning towards the 9 just because I really liked this one.
On second thought, in comparison to everything else, it is a solid 8, so let's go with that.
