WOAHWOAHWOAH! Want a fun, compelling story to binge on? Want to enjoy eye pleasing art you can stare at all day? Want to see a good mix of character development and relatability? Want to enjoy every frame and panel in this manga? Well, if so, I recommend taking a peek at this manga because personally, all of this criteria has fulfilled me. STORY: 10 To me, this story is original in my opinion. Although the idea of having a supernatural partner is an old concept, the way the author molds that cliche into her own special thing in a school setting with little adventures involving supernatural schoolrumors, is astounding. She takes the story of what many might know as Bloody Mary and turns it into a whole school-wide adventure that I know I've had imaginations of as a child but I have never seen anybody build it into a compelling story. I don't know about you, but I felt loads of different emotions while reading this and I hope you do too.

ART: 10

The art is a cutesy loli kind of style that I usually do not like in my manga. But, this is an exception. It absolutely captures the innocence of the characters yet it also turns the cute to creepy when needed. The landscape and all of the scenery are crisp and vivid even though it is just black and white. You guys should experience the art yourselves, since everybody's tastes are different, but make sure to try it out!

CHARACTERS: 10

The characters are honestly SO ADORABLEEEEEEEEE. I feel like I can hug each lil character in my arms although not all are portrayed as the protagonists. Thinking back now, some may see the character types as cliche with their personalities in the sense of maybe this dude is like the cool popular type or that girl is too clumsy, but the author really did not make me sense that while reading at all. Character tropes are being reused and recycled all the time now, and so far, to me, this manga utilizes the tropes to fit when needed, and there is great character development that I feel like I'm receiving an achievement while reading ^^

ENJOYMENT: 10

Overall enjoyment? AMAZING! I literally did not do anything but read it the whole day (it was winter break D:: no judge plzz ;-;) because the story was so entertaining to read. A lot of the time I was like AHHHHH and WOAHH and PRECIOUSSSSSS and ANFJA VHLF;MCKD,SZAN XSBC. Yeah, maybe I'm just too emotional. I guess this part is up to you guys to decide if you enjoy it or not as well, we all have different preferences.

It might be a bit unrealistic to score all aspects a 10/10.. ahehe, but perhaps it was because I haven't read something so compelling to me in so long, but honestly, give it a try!

Hopefully you can enjoy it like me. Thanks for reading!

Jibaku Shonen Hanako-kun is an enjoyable read, with fun characters, new twists on urban legends and tropes, and beautiful art. Story - At the beginning of the manga, it might seem like the story will be somewhat episodic or nonlinear. Rest assured, though, a plot does come in to play. Yashiro Nene, a human girl, meets Hanako, a ghost, and the two wind up supernaturally linked to one another and must figure out the mysteries of the school the manga takes place in together. It's not a terribly unusual premise, but the writing makes it fun and interesting nonetheless. As the story progresses, there arehints towards a larger narrative and nicely placed hints as to what may ultimately be taking place. I think, personally, that the real draw of this manga's story is less held by the plot itself and more within the characters. This is in no small part due to the fact that the plot is intrinsically linked to Hanako and company.

Characters - I think this is a very character driven series. Due to that, it makes sense that the characters in this manga are, for the most part, very well done. There isn't a single reoccurring character in this series that I am not at the very least intrigued by. The main trio, which is comprised of a human girl, an exorcist boy, and a ghost are the standouts of the cast. They are the ones we spend the most time with, and both Hanako and Kou are very enjoyable to read about. Hanako in particular is very interesting, as more facets of his character come to light as the story progresses and relationships develop. Even the antagonists of the series are interesting, and I find myself wanting to learn more about them, even when they cause serious trouble for the main trio. I also want to mention that the dynamic of the main trio is super cute. Like, really super cute, yknow?

Character interactions are also very well done, especially within but even outside of the main trio.

One of the only issues I have with the characterization in this series is that Yashiro is a little bit underwhelming as a protagonist. She isn't a bad character, and she is endearing, but she is very centered on the traits of wanting a boyfriend (yes, romance does come in to play) and feeling upset about her ankles. She is also generally in need of rescue in pretty much every situation where there's major conflict. It is worth it to note though that characters do develop within the story, so it's possible these could be changed later on.

Art - The art in this series is amazing, point blank. The cute but flexible art style lends itself well to the setting and doesn't feel like a constraint even in dramatic moments, since it can shift to a more serious version of itself depending on the mood. The characters are adorable and the backgrounds and settings are gorgeous. The black and white pages are clean, crisp, and fittingly detailed or simple depending on the moment, and the rare colored pages are stunning. This manga is honestly worth at least trying out for the art alone.

Enjoyment - As you can probably tell by the text wall, I really enjoyed this series. I read it all very quickly and will probably read it again, too! My favorite aspects are definitely the characters and the art. I went in with basically no expectations or prior knowledge about the series, and ended up finding a new favorite. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here.

Overall, it's a series that's definitely worth trying out. It's got great characters, an enjoyable plot, and cute art all with mysterious and sometimes melancholic undertone. If any of the premise, characters, or art intrigue you, you should give it a shot and see if you like it. For me, it's a solid eight at least, and could probably go up depending on how the series continues in the future.

There are three reasons to read this manga. 1. The art style is unique. It has a cute, surreal, and sometimes creepy vibe to it. 2. It has some very cute and very good boys. Let me re-emphasize: EVERYONE IS EXTREMELY CUTE. 3. The story involves the fleeting, melancholic nature of relationships between ghosts and humans. Also, the ghosts are your classic "I was unhappy during life and am now trying to find fulfillment by remaining here after death" kind of thing. There's a pervading feeling of sadness behind all of the cute character designs and strange supernatural occurrences. If this sounds like your thing, it probably is. But Iguess there are details to talk about.

The plot: ehh who cares?

Girl meets boy who is a ghost. Girl gets into trouble that causes her to become tied to the ghost. The other special ghosts of the school aren’t behaving normally for some reason. Boy and girl help the ghosts work through their problems plus deal with character drama. Honestly, it doesn’t matter that much. The value of the plot comes from it being an effective vehicle for showcasing the art style and giving the very cute characters an opportunity to be sad.

The characters:

What’s better than good boys? Sad good boys.

Hanako: main boy. He’s a sad ghost boy. Very cute. My primary issue with him is that he’s a little too handsy/clingy with the protagonist. This is fine in the beginning because you see him as this poor kid who is starved for human interaction and affection, but then they decide to turn it into the whole “he’s a pervert lol” joke because people still think this is funny for some reason. Overall though he’s a good kid who definitely has some issues with his past he needs to work out. Probably the most endearing part of the series is seeing how he starts to open himself up to the other characters and finally see what it’s like to have friends, something he didn’t seem to have when he was alive.

Kou: best boy. The adorable, earnest exorcist. Pretty much his whole character is that he’s a good boy. I support him.

Tsukasa: murDER boy. I guess the story needed a crazy shota antagonist. He’s boring.

Mitsuba: another sad, cute ghost boy. His friendship with Kou is very cute.

All the other male characters are literal whos except for the spider teacher who has a good design.

Nene: main girl. She's cute. She has radish legs and REALLY wants a boyfriend. I kid you not those are her defining traits.

I should mention that they do push the romance angle with her and Hanako (and a little with Kou too). I probably should have put this as another reason to read the manga because it leads to a lot of cute, flustered interactions. While this element is by no means central to the plot (yet), it does help endear you to the characters.

Other female characters: they’re fine, they’re cute, they’re not why you’re here.

The art:

Like I said, it’s good.

Everything is definitely pleasing to look at, but it’s the depictions of the strange and supernatural that give the manga an atmosphere that stands out.

Overall:

You know if you’re a mark for this kind of thing or not.

If the anime turns out alright, it’s going to look very cool and have a nice atmosphere. Look forward to that!

This has quickly become my favourite piece of media EVER. I do not give it this title so lightly. First and foremost, the art must be discussed. Personally, I think it's the most aesthetically pleasing thing I've seen in a WHILE. The colors are warm and the blocky artstyle is stunning. Now, the story. I absolutely love it. I have always been interested in spooky stories. Urban legends are very enticing to me so the premise of this show instantly intrigued me. The characters are all very likeable and distinct. In particular, I love how realistic they behave knowing they're teenagers. I especially love how thevarious, and you'd think jarring, themes are actually so well balanced: the horror, the comedy and the very well paced and thought-out romance. What this manga really excels at is making you forget that there are many dangerous threats in their school only for the audience to be abruptly reminded of it when least expected. It's really amazing storytelling but I won't dare to rant more about it because I have comitted to a spoiler-free review. And, I do believe that the best way to consume this manga is to go in dark. You won't be disappointed; seriously, read it.

This manga is way more than it seems and you will NOT regret picking it up. And if you do decide picking it up, my favourite arc is Picture Perfect so message me about it! >:)

I see a lot of reviews on opposite sides of the scale. It feels like people are either extremely harsh or extremely in love with it. I enjoy the series personally but i'd like to be fair. Characters 7/10 I do agree with people in saying some characters lack depth in terms of issues and just overall info on said character. I think Nene is enjoyable in the sense of a hopeless romantic due to me knowing people like that. The leg jokes are a bit repetitive and sometimes annoying. I do feel like character development for some important characters doesn't exist and that themain isn't involved in her own issues. Nene is very much sheltered from said issues. My favorite has to be Mitsuba but i'll admit despite all that happens not a lot changes character wise for him. Same for Minamoto.

Story 7/10

The premise is great i just don't feel like there is enough of a push to the story, i feel it should have chosen to go one way or another. Either a slice of life of dealing with the mysteries or make it progressive story with the antagonist they clearly made. I do like the mini subplots added as well. (trying my best not to add spoilers). There are heavier topics discussed but its never done in a way where it changes the course of the story entirely . I do wish it would delve a bit more and give it more time to ferment though. But i do enjoy those sections. There are some things that could be changed like giving characters more independence from one another or just not reinforcing the fact that nene is a girl and shouldn't do things. It makes sense why its said but it doesn't really need to be mentioned.

Expectations i feel are what really make the opinions. I went in expecting a light hearted show that was kind of a cute romance and thats kinda what i got. So i'm not really disappointed and overall enjoy it . I feel if you go into the series having extremely high expectation or expecting a grand tale then you will leave disappointed.

I recommend this if you are in the mood for an overall cute series that feels kind of more of a casual read with a slight bit of depth. Overall an 8/10 in my opinion

I just recently binged this amazing series and enjoyed every second! Shounen is said to be for boys but really girls will get a kick out of this! It's very hilarious and deep! STORY 9/10 It has a very solid story and its fun like I'm always looking forward to something and something is always going on! It's like there will be something serious to lore and then there will be a chapter dedicated to something funny like "Zombie Mokke" ART 10/10 The art style was AmAzInG it's super unique and fun! The creator obviously put a lot of effort into drawing each boundary and character designs! CHARACTER 9/10 Thecharacters for this series are really fun! Amane has the most lore and it's all very interesting to learn about! Amane has a deep past with a lot to uncover and figure out! (I just want to know why Amane is such a perv)

ENJOYMENT 10/10

There was not one second nothing was going on! I was always in a fangirl mood and everything felt like fanservice! Hanako-Kun's character is hilarious to watch as he makes his jokes and plays around but then gets flustered up by the smallest thing!

OVERALL 10/10

Yeah not lying this was the best thing ever! It's like a fresh start! A fresh storyline! Fresh art! and super fun to read! I enjoyed everything about it! Honestly, this should be the Shounen god right now!

(this review has some spoilers) Theres few mangas that have got me hooked so fast. I watched the 2020 anime first and i was in love with just the whole thing but i felt like it was missing alot especially about hanako so i picked up the manga. Fast forward to like 2024 this hands down one of the best stories i have read, the first few arcs are lovely and just wholesome with some good story telling but the dark twisted lore only gets deeper in the future arcs. I Think we havnt even seen what the mangaka has in store yet and im already scared.this manga has made me laugh and cry and feel sick to my stomach at times, its such a perfect blend of dark comedy and romance (hananene being canon was one of the best things ever). The mangaka knows how to build a story and how to write characters. Tsukasa and amanes story is so twisted and we still havnt seen amanes pov of it, also seeing the picture perfect arc and the development of the characters after that arc was so amazing.

Overall im gonna stop ranting and gonan say if u like mangas with good story and amazing art read this. the art will blow your mind every panel is gorgeous and the chars are adorable. The story is slow to build up but i think every arc sets uo the next so beautifully. you will not regret reading this one

I AM TELLING YALL, THIS IS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER READ IN MY LIFE! I am really obsessed with this story and artstyle and more. If you like the anime please reade the manga. In my case manga is a lot better than anime so i gave the manga 10/10. I feel like i have never even in anime jumped in schock or screamed like i did while reading this manga. My life goal is to get all the volumes cuz it was just that good. I showed the manga to my friend and three days later she came screaming at me that she lovedit so mutch. I told her to read the manga first before watching the anime cuz in my opinion i kinda hate the animation quality.

Lots of love for this manga and i really do recommend it.

Toilet Bound Hanako Kun is a very unique manga Endlessly entertaining, the kind of thing that really puts a smile on my face. Or just makes me feel sad. Sometimes it’s cute and funny, sometimes it’s dark and depressing. Not like Made in Abyss, it’s not nearly as gruesome. It’s more subtle with the occasionally dark themes it presents. It’s not really “disturbing” in any way. The art is amazing, creepy and cute all at the same time. It’s the kind of art that works for comedic cute moments and works for the occasional darker moments. It’s remarkably detailed and consistent, and something that you can appreciate evenif you hate the story. The character designs are all extremely cute and unique too.

One big strength in this manga are the characters. They’re all very VERY cute. I have never found myself hating any of them. They’re the kinda characters you want to protecc. I would say the least likable is the protagonist Nene. She’s a bit useless, and in love with being in love. Her defining feature is her radish legs. Yes, really. But despite her more annoying aspects, she’s pretty adorable in her own radish way. Hanako and Minamoto are better, two very good boys with lovable personalities.

The story of the manga is simple with no real overarching story line, at least not at this point in the manga. However, it just works and is compelling enough to keep you entertained throughout. Though the story itself is not the selling point of this manga. The comedy is a bit hit or miss, but overall it all just works.

This manga is very fun to read, and easy to marathon. If you want an entertaining manga to spend time on in times of quarantine, it’s a good read that I would enthusiastically recommend. Easily one of my all time favorites.

4 years after joining this site I'm finally writing my first reviews and that's saying something. JSHK has been on my to read list for a while now and when I finally got around to it, I binged the entire thing in less than 24 hours (anime included). There's really nothing I'd change about it. The art is phenomenal, the characters are very diverse and interesting, the concept is entertaining, the pacing is perfect and what's most important: it's unpredictable. Sure, some of it follows the same pattern. Like Nene getting involved with one of the school's mysteries and them causing trouble - yet you'll never knowhow it's going to play out.

That being said I feel like JSHK is the perfect mix of romance, comedy, "fantasy" and action mixed with a bit of gore and a whole lot of heartache. It doesn't shy away from difficult topics while still prodiving just the right amount of fanservice. The story progresses feeding you just enough information to keep you interested but always wanting more. Honestly if you ever, for a split second, considered picking up a new series: make it JSHK.

SHORT REVIEW~~ Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun manga is typical sweet romance? STORY - Well... I must admit that at the beginning I thought it would be another typical sweet romance but the story became more and more interesting. ART - I pay attention to art style and I think that is amazing!. The drawings are so polished and cute. CHARACTER - Some characters annoyed me but there are also a lot of characters everyone can identify with ^^ENJOYMENT - it was pleasant to experience moments of joy and sadness with the main characters. I am curious how the story will end.

OVERALL - That manga made me laugh and cry. Really emotional rollercoaster and that's what a good manga should have.

I started to read this manga in 2018 or so, and I fell hard in enjoyment! The plot was hilarious, the character so cute and stupid (in a joyable way) and the story just takes it turns! The story starts with Yashiro Nene, who is in love with the school president, of course she isn't really in love with this guy, even if that guy is handsome, amazing, kind and... I will not spoil but have some knowledge on one thing or another. So Nene hears the rumor of the seven legends (some urban known thing in Japan) and she goes to Hanako-san, only thatHanako-san is not a cute little girl that hides in the girls bathroom, this Hanako is a guy, and a really interesting one.

The story goes on. Nene isn't in love with the president and Hanako have a lot of secrets. I can only recommend this manga over the anime adaption that came out this January 2020. The manga is so much better! So more cute! And a bit more funnier!!!

9/10 I hate the reviews that give this manga below a 7/10 because of the reasons to support it. I read most of the reviews that gave it that rating was mostly because of the enjoyment and they basically said that with every reason. If you don't enjoy the manga then drop it cause everything else in it is not bad. story 9/10 The pacing is good, unlike the anime. And almost every arc has something to do with one of the 7 mysteries which keeps the pacing intact. In each arc, there is always a mystery being solved or a cliffhanger happening. It keeps me upfor more I look forward to each chapter to come. I give the plot a 9/10 for the reason it's not that deep like Mononoke or anything but it's still really good.

Art 10/10

The coloring is 10/10

The art style is 10/10

The exact reason I bought physical copies

characters 7/10

Each character has a distinct personality they are not just there to be there. They help carry the story to what it is. I know the main character is annoying but she has a heart and cares. The biggest problem though with the characters is that the characters don't really have a well-developed back story or one at all at least in the manga so far, but l like how the Main character kinda developed.

enjoyment 10/10

I enjoy

Although the story comes from a old urban legend, the way the author wrote it and made it their own is honestly amazing. The characters are fun, the way they introduce new characters makes you want to keep reading to find out about them. There hasn't been a manga I've read in a while that made me genuinely want to know more. Now don't get me started on the art. It's absolutely beautiful! The colors and the style blend together so well, I love it! I enjoyed every minute of reading it and I'm sad to say I finished the whole thing within a week, and now I have to wait for it to get updated. But now I'm filled with more excitement to read it because it's left me wondering what'll happen next. Overall I gave this manga a 10/10 because of how amazing it is! Go ahead and give it a read!

I love this manga. The story is great, and characters have depth and everyone looks cute. The art is amazing, and the anime animated the odd colorful style perfectly. By adapting it this way, the animation is minimalist, but it's a great show. In the beginning, it seemed like a normal shoujo girl x ghost, but then more characters were introduced and Hanako was given a lot more depth as a character. The whole aura of the story is great too. what seemed like a normal comedy romance shoujo actually had it's dark moments, with twisted characters, and later in the manga there are evenmore plot twists. Hanako slowly starts revealing more about himself and arcs that seem like complete fillers actually add more depth to characters.

Toilet bound Hanako Kun, adapted into anime in 2020 and since gained a cult following. Was the hype on this seemingly cutesy show worth it? Yes. I am only going to focus on the Manga, but give the anime a go if you don't favor the idea of sitting through many chapters. Oh boy, lots to unpack right here. The story was great, amazing, and the art is an absolute blessing to view. The characters were incredibly well built and I enjoyed this manga, though it is not finished. Let's get on to the main part of what makes shows unique, the story. It starts asyour typical "I am in love with a ghost" trope, but dig in for a few chapters, and to 30 chapters and more, this clearly was not the case. There were some comedic moments here and there, but the authors still managed to incorporate dark elements into it. The lore is amazing, incredibly in-depth, and interesting, with every chapter more questions arise. Though it can get a tad bit repetitive, and even lengthy. Some arcs are too short, some too long, but it isn't something that I would really bother complaining about. The plot has its flaws, but still very unique and interesting.

The art scores a 10/10 for me right away. Everything from the line art, screen-toning, and even panel structuring impressed me. I'm not too much of an art critic but just look at the style! everything is so detailed it amazes me! it works well in both light and dark situations and always makes the characters more alive, even if they're dead (hanako kun).

Characters. All the characters were decently built, my favorites in terms of development and writing were Nene and Aoi. Sure, their behavior can be quite repetitive at times but there is always something fresh about them, new enough you don't feel tired of them. Hanako, although playfully joking in nearly every single scene still manages to be a fun character, and a super edgy one too. (I'm looking at you, 14-year-old boys.)

Overall, definitely worth the read if you want stunning art, interesting lore and a rollercoaster of emotions.

-this will probably only make sense if youve read the manga fully- aaaa, to be short i prefer the manga over the anime. Its so cute and absolutely gorgeous, im always excited when a new chapter comes out. I think the problem alot of people have with it is there isnt a strong plot, but honestly i really love that about it. Think about it this way, maybe not all manga and anime HAS to have a strong plot. Like, theres a plot buried under there, but theyre just kinda enjoying their lives. Its cute, feels really in tune to the generation. I think it haspossibly the best humor out of the mangas ive read, and i like the characters too. Hanako has a dark backstory and could easily be bad, but hes enjoying his time and taking it easy, yknow? Its chill, comfy. Not action packed or anything. Nene is a fun character, i honestly like her. I think she would be the kind of person i would talk to occasionally, but wouldnt be good friends with. Shes girly but not passive, and i like that she has a main goal of obtaining love. Its kind of a magnified version of high school girls. We dont know much about kou, and im kinda curious about his family, but im sure hell get an arc eventually. I like how the supporting characters have an important role in the story. Nene’s friend aoi is sweet and supportive, and also introduces the current rumor that fuels the arc. However, in the more recient chapters, its revealed she actually feels alone alot, despite being popular. She feels like an outcast, so i like that shes not just a one dimensional support rock. Teru, kous brother, is also a character that occasionally pops by. I honestly just like having him there for shipping purposes, and i think hanako and nene’s relationship could get real spicy if the story goes as planned in my mind. He doesnt really do much, but adds to the fun environment of the lighter parts of the manga. Mitsuba kinda annoys me so i wont discuss him, but hes a liiiiittle bit unimportant?? I dunno i just feel like he shouldnt be such a big issue. I like the bad guys, the whole brother thing is iconic but its a nice twist that they're both at the same school. Uhh, thats all i have to report but i really do like this manga. c:

Ps, the fandom is pretty cute other than tsukasaxhanako shippers,,,,,like cmon guys theyre brothers fr

This manga is truly amazing. I first watched the anime that came out in 2020, it was pretty good but it did feel like some pieces were missing from the ending. That's why I decided to read the manga. Turns out they didn't put a major arc in the anime which would potentially make the anime way better. So I am kinda mad at the anime, but I fell in love with the manga. The character development happens little by little every chapter, and you get to see all of it when the manga decides to pour all the emotions into another beautiful chapter. Itmight seem like a light novel at first, but you see that all the comedy chapters add up and develop the chapters that have heavy emotions and add taste. This story takes the old Japanese legend "Hanako-san of the toilet" and turns it into a whole anime with all drama, fantasy, and romance. The bonding relationship between the characters is pictured so perfectly. I can't wait for the new chapters to come out.

This manga is amazing!!! I recommend reading the manga before watching the anime that just came out!! The art is so unique and beautiful, and the author does a great job at creating great loveable characters. It is really enjoyable since you get a lot of flashbacks with new characters and you get to know them really well. The main characters are also really cute and funny. I also really enjoyed the authors way of introducing new characters, they really feel like your friends. Pay attention to some really cool characters and their backstories in the manga. I definitely 1000% recommend to anyone who wants toread something with great art style and plot.❤
