Reviews for Shinobu's Pure Heart
Back to MangaBefore I get into the review I would like to say one thing. THIS MANGA IS A HIDDEN GEM. I absolutely loved this manga. It was so cute and heartwarming that it really made my day every time I read it. Story 7/10: The story is quite simple. There a girl who is a ninja but is not allowed to tell anyone that she is a ninja except one person, a person that she likes. In the beginning of the story we get introduced to the main MC who is the love interest of that ninja girl and we basically follow their relational development throughout thestory. The story is nothing out of the ordinary but it definitely makes way for a cute romantic relationship that the readers see progress throughout every chapter. Like I always say with romance-focused stories, the main selling point is the characters and Ninja Shinobu does a great job selling that point.
Art 8/10:
The art fits really well with the theme and setting of this manga. It's light-hearted, kind of childish, and the reactions of the characters is absolutely hilarious. You can totally tell if someone is annoyed, heartbroken, or just happy and that's what I came to appreciate about the art for this anime. A lot of the emotions are exaggerated and just seeing a character blush or feel heart broken stirred up so many emotions inside of me. I feel that if the art makes you feel a certain way then it's done a good job so I have to say good job to the artist for Ninja Shinobu.
Characters 10/10:
I feel like the main attraction of this manga is definitely the characters. The main couple and the side characters were all so lovely and the side characters weren't even considered side characters because they received a lot of chapters and had their own little arcs. Even though the characters weren't too realistic, I still enjoyed it as no character was annoying or disruptive in other people's relationships. Every character felt like a main character and that's one thing I came to appreciate from this manga.
Overall 9/10:
If you want a fun, innocent, diabetes giving type of manga, this manga is for you. I absolutely loved this manga . It's sad to know that many people haven't read or even heard of this manga, but if you ever have the time, you should definitely check out Ninja Shinobu-san no Junjou!
SHOULD YOU READ IT? If you want to get DIABETES then FAK YEAH READ THIS SH*T BRO. There's a girl in your class. She's secretly a ninja, and you're the only one who knew her secret. Yup, that is the summary of this story. Ninja Shinobu-san no Junjou is a refreshing ROMCOM manga which its main audience is just people who want to have a good sweetness experience of their life. I know you are kinda like "Real Life sucks and so am I rite?" guys, so just let's get going to my review. Story (8): It is basically a slice of life story. The plot of most chapters ends in 1 chapter, so there's basically no cliffhanger. That's being said, you still want to read more because of the curiosity of the main characters' development.
Art (7): The art is not great, but not that bad. The character design still can hook you up, but the environment is... I would say "too white". Not like I don't like white but hey, we all don't like white supremacy. Need to put some tints on that environment. (I heard from other people that the manga artist is a high school student, which makes sense to me).
Character (9): Well I'm not good at memorizing character's name, but I will say they are pretty well-written. If you guys read any romcom manga, you will see a handsome dude and a plain dude, it's similar to this manga. There's 1 side character which I think don't have much of character development (the bar/shop girl, who always in the store. When I say always, it's like forever). However, the rest of them are lit.
Enjoyment (9): Yeah, I really enjoy this kind of story, it's kinda refreshing and there are no NTR WHATSOEVER in the story. It's really refreshing for thus who got depressed with other dark shit manga. Try this manga bro, it's a good drug for you.
Overall: I will say (8) is my sweet spot, really enjoy this so far.
In conclusion, WORTH IT.
TL:DR; It's cute, well-paced, and it ends nicely. rest of the review... not really necessary honestly, but might as well do it for context. Story: Story is well-paced and progresses the relationship of the two mains nicely with some development for the side cast. Story revolves around Shinobu the Kunoichi interacting with Hitoyoshi, the only guy that knows she's a ninja and is trying to expose it. First few chapters revolve around antics between the two. and honestly the first few chapters are kinda cringe-worthy at first because of hitoyoshi, but is not too bad. the manga quickly shifts gears later to developing the relationshipbetween the two mains with some antics in between. There is never any excessive drama, like in most romance stories. it stays light-hearted throughout the entire run. and unlike most comedy manga, the status quo never really ever felt stagnant.
Art: art does what it needs to, but is a little higher quality than most comedy manga. Main girl is a cute "soft" kuudere and some of the opening art panels are drawn really well.
Characters: Shinobu, the main girl, is a cute "soft" kuudere and never ceases to be one. Hitoyoshi is dense, but never frustrating though he was a bit cringe-worthy in the early chapters, but that's the worst he ever gets, he's the typical too nice to a fault kinda guy, and at the very least they don't skip over the "to a fault" part like most manga, so he's pretty generic but in a good way. the rest of the side cast is really likable, but describing them would probably spoil some of the gags of the manga, so i won't.
Enjoyment and Overall: Not really much left to say honestly.
It's cute, well-paced, and it ends nicely.
A nice change of pace from the usual dark manga I read. Ninja Shibo-chan no Junjou is about a love story between a typical high school boy and a not so typical girl…ahem ninja. The story started off as the male protagonist discovered that his classmate is actually a ninja, while she awkwardly tries to deny it. =Story= It's your typical love story where classmates fall in love, albeit with the twist that the girl is actually a ninja. It started out as a cute premise but it's noticeably missing in the middle of the manga and brought up again at the end. =Character= The authoris very good at showcasing each characters by giving them individual chapter. While there're quite a few characters in the manga but they all feel like they have their own characteristics and has been properly introduced.
=Thoughts=
I read this while I'm feeling down from my new year resolution not working out :chuckle:. It's definitely a great read if you need a light hearted manga that can give you a laugh and cheer you up. It works for me so I hope for you as well.
It is a really cute Romcom, but definitely not in the traditional sense. The story is original, with this being my first encounter with the premise. Each chapter was funny and/or heartwarming. The reason I give the story an 8 is because they didn't kiss and we didn't see them do romantic stuff. The characters were alright. Actually, the one I disliked the most was Hitoyoshi, the main character (other than Shinobu). He was so fucking dense. The art was good, I didn't once feel empty. Sometimes, mangaka will leave a textbox with a white or black background, and it makes me feel disgusted when it pulls meout of the world, which is most of the time.
Plus, the character designs were distinguishable and Shinobu was cute.
I enjoyed this, it was funny, but the end was underwhelming. Recommended to those who like comedy but not those who want to see lovey-dovey stuff.
TL:DR Wholesome, drama-free romcom. Primary focus is on the comedy aspect with the romance sprinkled in. Fun characters and a strong supporting cast. The ninja conceit isn't that important to the plot but it is a funny gag that doesn't over stay it's welcome. Story: 8/10 Despite the short length of 30 chapters, this is a densely packed manga that manages to never feel rushed. In fact, this manga is maintains good pacing and even creates a nice cast of side characters (more on that below). Very impressive writing that i did not expect from a manga with such a silly premise. As mentioned, the pacing is good withno chapter feeling wasted. You'll find that comedy is definitely the main focus but each chapter usually has some element that advances the romance, resulting in the romance progressing at a steady rate. There are some of the usual events (cultural festival etc) but complicated by the female lead being a perfectly normal high school girl who is not a ninja.
The central gag is used sparingly enough that it never loses it's charm. The characters are enjoyable enough that it never needs to rely entirely on the ninja gag, preventing the comedy becoming repetitive. The cast is good enough that they can carry the manga without contrivances or external events, keeping the manga enjoyable and engaging.
I have to respect an author that knows when to end their work. It can be the most difficult part yet I wasn't left unsatisfied by the ending. This is one of those romances that ends immediately after the couple gets together so I would have liked some chapters showing the MCs in a relationship together and expand on the supporting cast a little more as well. This is really up to personal preference however, the gag would certainly wear thin if the author wasn't careful.
Character: 7/10
The male MC is the archetypal shounen romance protagonist who is, in the tradition of all shounen romance, dense as lead and kind to a fault. He is relatively like-able despite the cliché personality. Actually, the way he's written makes it feel like both reader and author are in on the joke, the manga parodying the typical “too nice to live” character type at times. Unfortunately I can't say the same for his denseness, which entails the usual ignoring of very obvious signs of someone coming onto them. I don't think he was ever too frustrating but it's still a cliché that needs to die already.
The female MC is also a little cookie-cutter, being a shy, awkward girl. Being a ninja obviously changes this somewhat though they never make this the core or only part of her character so she does get to be more than just a ninja with attempts at showing other sides of her. However, she never really breaks out of the typical “shy girl” archetype.
The chemistry between the main pair is very good, I enjoyed seeming them together.
Despite the short length, the author manages to produce a well-developed supporting cast. It feels like they have their own personalities, and that they exist for more than supporting the main couple (or being superfluous love rivals). They also mesh well with the main pair. Obviously, with such a short run, you aren't going to get very deep or realistic characters but I found the whole cast to be enjoyable .In fact, the only real flaw I can give is that I'd have like to see them more!
Art
The art is simple but the character design is good and the artist is certainly capable of drawing cute moments. However, it can be too simple sometimes, with blushes being little more than lines overlaid on the face. The faces are also not the most expressive at times. Still, it's not much of a flaw and I never felt like the art took me out of the story.
Overall: 8/10
Overall, this is a surprisingly well written manga. Pretty funny, with a strong cast and good chemistry between characters. It's a pretty cute and wholesome romance with little drama. It never gets very sappy, mainly focusing on getting a laugh from the reader. My only real complaint is that it ends when the MCs get together.. Other than that, I recommend this to anyone who likes romcoms.
At first glance, Ninja Shinobu-san no Junjou seems like your typical throwaway romcom. On the surface, it has a silly premise, average art, and a plot so simple that you might think you’ve seen this all before. I went into the first chapter expecting something painfully mid or even worthy of dropping after a few pages. Some of the early jokes didn’t land, and nothing really stood out. But then something unexpected happened — I couldn’t stop reading. Despite its simplicity and unremarkable start, this manga quickly evolves into a real page-turner. It hits just the right blend of slice-of-life, comedy, and romance, weaving these elements seamlesslytogether. What began as an average read transformed into a series that had me genuinely invested in the characters and their relationships. It went from “Just 1 more chapter” to “Wait, it’s over already?”
Much of that appeal lies in the manga’s pacing; it's packed with content without ever feeling rushed or dragged out. It manages to flesh out the characters, side characters, and setting in just 30 chapters. It’s seriously some impressive writing, especially for this being Yuzuchiri’s first serialization.
If I had to make a comparison, it’s kind of like Komi-san without the repetitive gags and stagnant character progression. Yes, we again have a clueless protagonist and a heroine who struggles with communication. However, unlike Komi-san, Ninja Shinobu-san no Junjou offers substantial and meaningful character development within a realistic and satisfying timeframe. In only 30 chapters, Shinobu grows emotionally, learns to express herself, and adapts to high school life, delivering a concise yet satisfying narrative that actually respects the reader’s time.
It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what makes this manga so good. Maybe it’s the excellent combination of slice-of-life and romance, or the comedic moments, or simply its sincerity. Whatever the reason, this manga stealthily (pun intended), transitions from being merely average to something truly exceptional. It embraces its simple premise without overreaching, and somehow, that’s exactly why it succeeds.
I recall reading this manga a long time ago and gave it a quick binge due to the challenge? Despite the short end, this was a simple heart warming series from start to end. Ninjas in Manga series aren't exactly done correctly nowadays but at least we got a decent attempt. The story itself only consists of a Ninja girl who is crushing on a good willed dude. That is baldy it? Nothing more and less but we do get to see her use some of her abilities in sticky situations. The end came before any real development occured, so this is nothing more than awhat if series.
tl;dr: A pretty standard laid back rom-com where the heroine is a ninja, though that aspect isn't used all that much to its detriment. This manga has ninjas, or rather a single ninja mainly, but for the most part it's a pretty standard laidback rom-com without much of an overarching plot and instead a bunch of small stories where things slowly develop. The relationship between the two characters, one being somewhat of a stalker and the other being really nice but dense worked well enough I suppose, and there were cute moments, slowly building up the relationship to a predictable but solid enough ending. The issue is that itfelt really slow in getting there. It started getting really repetitive as it went on in terms of story, plot, and comedy. There were stories focused on side characters and their relationships, but they felt kind of pointless and never really went anywhere in the end so the only people that mattered were Hitoyoshi and Shinobu. Shinobu may be a ninja, but that didn't really feel like it mattered most of the time, especially as the series went on, so for the most part everything was really grounded and even somewhat generic at times, thus preventing the core story from really becoming all that engrossing, even if it was decent enough. The ending was solid, but pretty standard as far as such manga go so not particularly memorable. The art was okay.
