As of writing this, this anime has only come out with 3 eps and all it took to hook me up was 3 ep. So I'll say this short and simple but Holy shiiiii!!! Broooo, Light has so much freaking arua throughout this whole ep and more some in the throne. How satisfying this ep felt seeing that wolf-pup change and age in matters of seconds out of pure fear of Light might!!! I have not felt such power, not even Jin Woo IMO felt this way as of now. Can't wait to see what this anime has in store for us but as of nowthis anime won my heart 10/10 would recommend this anime to anyone who like characters max-aura farming

Its another one of these MC gets betrayed so becomes the “villain” type anime. I went into this not expecting much. But for a brief moment I thought maybe this actually wont be bad. But then the MC truly utilizes his power for the first time and summons a lvl 9999 ultra rare maid girl who wipes out a powerful enemy in a single swipe. Next episode the MC has a mansion full of maids that are lusting after him... The anime is lazy male-fantasy in its purest form. Dont get me wrong. I am not anti male fantasy. I too would love a mansion witha bunch of maids horny for me.

What I hate is LAZY male-fantasy anime.

You compare this to something like the Eminence in Shadow. You have an OP MC. Wears black. And has a harem of powerful women. Why does that anime work? Because the MC is fun and interesting. Because every single female character in that anime has a fun personality.

The lore of this anime is genuinely interesting, though the adaptation has only scratched the surface so far. The fight scenes are decent and well-executed, and while it may not be the strongest anime of the season, it remained engaging enough to keep me eagerly waiting for each new episode. It definitely needs a 2nd season. I am curious about who could be the potential main individual(s) aside from the MC behind the scenes who assembled the fake party in the first place to confirm the existence of 'Maestro'. And I really want to see how the revenge plots unfold in other kingdoms. Considering theanimation quality, good op and ed songs.

Overall, it definitely doesn't deserve any lower than 7 but since it got me hooked till the end having other top anime in my winter watchlist I give it a 8. If you are new to the world of anime, I urge not to compare this with top anime legends and kindly leave this from your bucket list for now.

Wasn't planning on doing a review on this, but external circumstances made me do it. Incapable loser buffoon gets lucky with his useless gacha power and earns a God tier level maid servant to solve all his problems for him. After getting betrayed by a group of adventures that deceived him, and later saved by his Deus Ex Machina power, he now starts his training and getting powerful arc, to one day get his revenge against those adventurers... But actually, lets just skip any kind of proper build up and development and jump straight up years in the future, where the Protagonist is now akin ofa god at level 9999, loved by everyone, has summoned and entire army with his "useless" gacha skill, but somehow haven't managed yet to avenge himself. In this modern era we don't have time to build interesting worlds and write interesting stories i guess...

There's so much wrong in here, from skipping anything that would build up and develop the story, the world the characters and make this story interesting, to plot holes like how didn't any of the other adventures noticed this random guy getting infamy and power, alongside several other things.

This just another seasonal low quality slop, a power trip harem revenge story, the most superficial and empty you could get. This specially hurts knowing fully well what JC Staff is capable of, and they decided to put their focus, effort and resources on this, alongside another low quality isekai slop, instead of an easy win with an highly acclaimed series.

it's like redo of healer for babies It is a super basic show. Some fun but short fight scenes. No character development. MC just wants revenge the most notable and somewhat enjoyable part of this show were a few fight scenes near the end. The actual revenge scenes are not only drawn out but so unsatisfying and disappointing. The revenge and motivation is only for the MC but the side characters/summons are so empty and undeveloped - their only goal is to fulfill the wishes of the MC who has no motivation other than "getting revenge". If you contrast this to Redo of Healer or any otherpopular revenge show, you realize this series comes short and leaves a lot to desire.

Very weak MC gets betrayed, trapped in a deep dungeon, and instantly becomes stronger through his unique Gacha skill. The graphics & BGM are good, but the problem is the storyline. It’s just not my type. Why? Typical MC innocent KID overpowered suddenly just because of some “incident & luck.” This kind of story clearly plays on human psychology, especially the desperation for power and wealth with the least possible effort. It’s basically a fantasy projection of “get rich fast” schemes but in anime form. This ties to dopamine-driven reward systems when the brain expects a sudden payoff. this kind of anime works as a temporary cure for despairor powerlessness, a way to imagine control or success in a world where they feel stuck. But also, it can increase delusion and escapist fantasies to belief that success or transformation can come without effort.

If you love this type of story because it helps you escape sadness or despair, I hope you’ll also find strength and meaningful life to face the real world.

I love revenge animes. This one showed promise: the story flowed nicely, the art design looked fantastic - I was ready to watch the biggest revenge anime ever written. By the second episode, it turned in a harem trash full of 30-year old, horny maids simping over a 12 year old. Verdict: I have never been disappointed by an anime enough to force me to write a review. Art style: 9/10. A pity it turned out into what it is. Characters: 2/10. The maids have one purpose in life : get laid by their master. Story: 1/10 - what story? If you like lazy harem where the MC does nothing, you might like it.

Was the world building of The Rising of the Shield Hero too sophisticated? Was its world building too complex and a distraction from the real burning heart of a cartoonish persecution complex? Well fear not for yet another paragraph long title show is here to strip away the unnecessary "world building" and get down and dirty with the real grievance with none of that unnecessary padding. Satan can be a romantic character because he is betrayed and rages against the injustice done to him when there is simply no hope of victory over ultimate force... Mugen Gacha has the power levels reversed, MC is wrongedand suddenly given powers to reshape the world. By the end of the third episode you are in Overlord territory where the pretense of a struggle has already been driven off, not with tsuyokunare exponential power level growth, but with a rewrite of the entire setting which happens off screen within a time skip. Because, well, why bother cluttering your story with a story?

The world building is crude, familiar and has a nasty smell about it. Mugen Gacha's world is one of cartoonish reverse racism where humans are the underclass, exactly why is a little fuzzy, this is another fantasy world that seems to be a video game but whether it is or not doesn't matter, Light Novels with half a page long titles have long moved past the need to distinguish a fantasy setting from a vidja game setting. The uninspired and derivative MC is naturally the goodest boy, he is he shining hope of his race, sorry, village. He is sent off to carry his people's hopes and dreams and bring back some prosperity for his desperate people.

But our special boy, who just wants to be good, is thwarted by the cartoonishly evil Other, on arriving in the big city he is immediately poorly treated by the non-humans who are very bad and venal, but then hope! He is rescued by a multiracial gang of do gooders who are out trying to right the wrongs of a prejudiced world with the power of love and friendship! This of course is a scheme, a ploy, a stab in the back if you will, soon it is revealed that the do gooders are in fact one dimensional sub-human villains (the worst of which is of course a woman, who uses her feminine wiles to extra betray the very special boy and subvert the proper role of a woman).

However, this is a power fantasy, MC cannot die in the dungeon, naturally, following a path so well worn its now down to the bedrock, he will discover that he is in fact The One and in the moment of his suffering and betrayal he is reborn and discovers he has the power of god! And what is that godly power that the goodest boy possesses? Why of course it's the power to make magical slaves!

I do not know how to review this work beyond this... I could wax on about the nasty politics running through it, but it's otherwise so much of a derivative work that it doesn't even need it... It's central revenge theme has been done to death, it is a child's pale imitation of Redo of Healer... But it does not even have the bravery of its conviction to revel in its own monstrosity... The disjointed desire for MC to become revenge incarnate, but also be a good boy and build a nice kingdom for his slaves is crude to the point of farce. The grievance that bleeds out of it, that it was wrong to interfere with the good intentions of MC and the poor persecuted humans he was the avatar for stands in stark contrast to well, building a society in which every individual is entirely beholden to the whims of MC. Asinine stuff.

Let me start by saying this clearly: out of the 200+ anime series I’ve watched, this is the first time I’ve ever given a 1/10. And believe me, I don’t hand that score out lightly. But this one is absolute dogwater. The premise itself is nothing new, the first episode actually develops it in a surprisingly satisfying way. It sets the stage for a beautiful revenge story. Makes you loathe the traitors and feel the protagonist’s rage. It makes you expect a brutal payoff. But then… nothing. We were promised a revenge narrative and got barely a morsel of it. Instead, the show bloats itself with an endless paradeof filler characters who appear and disappear without contributing anything to the main plot. It’s just noise instead that only distracts from the meat and potatos of the story. They are more distractions instead of payoff.

But the truly inexcusable part is the pacing.

It sprints through the setup as if it can’t wait to get to the good stuff…

…and then immediately slows to a painful crawl.

Every episode after the premiere feels like the story is stalling, padding time, or just wandering away from the central conflict entirely.

By the halfway point, it became painfully obvious:

we are NOT getting the revenge we were promised this season.

Not even REMOTELY close.

And that’s the ultimate disappointment. The anime successfully builds the audience’s hatred toward the enemies, only to sideline them for filler arcs, side quests, and tonal detours that go nowhere. With two episodes left, it’s clear they have no intention of delivering on the setup they worked so hard to establish.

The two or three times we do see "revenge" it feels like it was nothing more than a PowerPoint slide

A revenge story that refuses to give us the revenge?

That ain't subversive, it’s just appalling storytelling. 1/10

Huge seeds were sown, but what grew were weeds and chaff. This has to be satire or something. There are only 2 conclusions after watching the debut fantasy shows from this season. Either we’re entering a phase of the worst Japanese writers ever, or they’re intentionally trolling us and I didn’t get the joke. I don’t know how they managed to fumble this set-up. A non-stop sequence of bait and switch tactics. In 12 episodes they’ve adapted 1-49 chapters of the manga. From skimming through the manga they did alright job in adaptation. The issues in the writing and general pacing persist in the manga, though I don’tknow about the Light Novel.

You’ll hear from others that this show is shamelessly copying from it’s successful predecessors. You shouldn’t complain about copying, If something is good, reproduce it a million times. What people don’t realise is that even copying, is a skill. Most of the inspiration is subject to a very cruel butchering. The author doesn’t understand what they’re copying. They lack the wisdom nor the understanding to stage the timing or to gauge the level of effect. They race through events, skipping to the climax so there’s no adequate build up for the important moments.

My eyes lit up and I rubbed my hands furiously every time I saw they were so evidently influenced by Overlord. I thought “There’s no way they can ruin this”. By the end of it my face drooped in pure disgust, utterly bewildered at how terribly they executed it. We have the classic, elephant- behind-bamboo-tree disguises, How are we practically omnipotent in an animated fantasy show, but can’t just change facial appearance or even better just wear a full suit of armour or disguise. We put on the most anorexic masks like we’re doing fancy dress party. We walk around in a GOLDEN suit of armour! While we stress about discretion? It’s too much for my brain sadly. I also get a sinking feeling that he’s just too powerful, he knows too much, he is far too mobile all times it’s very overbearing, such that it eliminates all tension.

They pick a handful of these themes but nothing is fleshed out. You take a sip of this resultant rich diabolical soup, you grimace and you’re instantly reminded of true brilliance of its predecessors. The writer didn’t give the plot enough time to blossom, there wasn’t enough careful focus on the themes or characters. If you want incorporate all these elements and characters then you need a great helping of time to prevent your story from paralysing the learned mind. An example is Tower of god, the damned thing is still ongoing but more importantly, for the anime, they needed an entire season for the betrayal phase. How long do you think the betrayal phase was for this show? I’ll be generous and say a single episode. If you’re expecting story, they’ve come empty handed, character development thrown to the wayside.

Continuing on about this short betrayal phase. It’s unfortunately also a huge issue for the believability as a whole.

They also make the stupid decision to skip all the development during the build-up after the betrayal phase. So he’s zero then next episode he’s hero, that’s an inconceivable shift for the viewer. The matters are made worse due to his child-like disposition and the fact that he is young. Children are used as a device in writing because it gives the idea to the reader of development. Just think to sports, like a young football player, people flock to these players because they’re drunk on the idea of the future development. Similarly so a child implies development and growth. Continuing with this they really ought be to be careful in showing and implementing an adequate phase to ensure that the viewers/readers are satisfied. The series of events were like you went to sleep and you’re Bill Gates the next day but with a child’s mind and body. It’s so readily discomforting and ludicrous. They give a reason for this, but how can such a pitiful statement excuse omitting one of the most important stages of these kinds of stories. This also creates an issue where we rarely get to see his ability in a meaningful way. The premise is in the title, this “MUGEN GACHA” doesn’t really define the experience, it seems like a gateway to tell their amalgamation of themes from successful works. Even the basis for the magic system isn’t well explained at all.

From my understanding in terms of revenge, there’s two types of people. People who genuinely enjoy others’ suffering and those who don’t. In a revenge story usually the original person didn’t enjoy others’ suffering but due to the traumatic nature of his betrayal he becomes that kind of person who does. The thing is, this MC, he’s just not that person. I recall vividly the times he tries to sound cruel and callous, it’s a genuine misfit. Not only does his height, his facial disposition, his voice actor betray him, the entire character short-sells him as well. I just don’t believe he has that cruelty to him. Every time he actually tries to enact his revenge or does the crazy-evil-face it just feels fake, pretentious and forced. Farcicality stemming from the stark lack of correlative behaviours, mannerisms or mentality that precludes or predisposes him to it. Outside of the betrayal he’s a little boy who wants to have a lot of friends basically, the betrayal did basically nothing for his character and this is an issue in the writing.

I’ve heard the phrase, “cardboard cutouts”, while people will blanket this term on most of the characters actually it’s just not the case. There was a wealth of promise in these characters, it’s so sad it mostly went to shame. I particularly mention the antagonists, which sadly I ended up rooting for, more than the MC. The antagonists feel real, their dialogue was the most fun I had during the show, some were actually funny, there were some routines that started to lift my spirit. A few had their time to shine but others which should have at least matched that brightness were snuffed out far too quickly. The greatest problem however lies within the main cast, him and his crew are absolutely abominable. They’re pseudo one-dimensional, that phrase I initially mentioned fits them perfectly. They don’t show enough individuality and when they do it’s so disjointed, lacking charisma and authenticity. The chemistry between them could barely boil raindrop, their routines and conversation are so uninspired and boring. You’ll barely ever perceive their convictions beyond wanting to sleep with the MC or adjacent sensibilities. Revenge is a very personal thing it’s hard to get even your best friend to care about it if it never directly affected them, how about a whole company of people? Yeah it doesn’t make sense why they care and there’s just not enough effort put in to convince them as well as us the audience that they do. The MC is whatever the author wants at the time, It lacks continuity, the adequate behavioural patterns, consistency and does the story no justice.

Character dynamics display massively wasted potential, for example, if you remember ‘Alpha’ from ‘Eminence in the Shadow’;

She’s basically the first member of the MC’s syndicate, she becomes the head girl both in strength and in the hierarchy.

They have a character try to emulate her here yet all it does is further bolster your love for Alpha. That dynamic between Alpha and the rest of the girls exhibits that writer’s brilliance, they respect her, showing great deference to her. They might be jealous of her position even so they would never pull anything stupid to spite her, this show has the illusion of that kind of hierarchy but then betrays it immediately in action. You can never walk past someone you respect without their permission, it’s fundamental non-verbal behaviour. The rule is broken upon the first time we witness this character dynamic. This mediocrity extends to moments were the writer is trying to get the characters to be quirky or comedic, rather than producing relatability with positive emotions, it ruins the immersion. Their outbursts and timing in dialogue always seems to fervently halt any attachment the viewer tries to have. They steal each other’s light.

As for the art and animation, do not let anyone tell you that this is bad. In fact, if they were adapting my favourite LN or manga I’d be overjoyed. There’s obviously a very close resemblance to Dan-Machi’s style, as this is from the same studio they were very resourceful. Their efforts bore fruit, It’s very easy on the eyes. Animation was fluid and clean throughout, they did a great job with the material. My greatest critique lies in the source, especially with the character design. The antagonists’ designs less so than the main cast. In particular, outfits for the main females very much betrayed their hierarchy/order. I compare it to Albedo from Overlord, she wears a full dress gown down to her toes yes, it’s revealing in a few areas for fan service purposes but other than that the design projects her position. Hell, when she goes into battle she wears a full suit of armour, making it extremely immersive. The Albedo-like version in this show has a short maid dress, It’s so off-putting you don’t have the idea that she’s in charge, which is in complete juxtaposition to Albedo, let’s not even begin to mention what she fights the battles in.

There were a few interesting things along the way..

- City of Wolves being named after an a peculiar City in Africa.

- A character with a familiar name from OPM (which aired simultaneously this season)

- The soundtrack trying their absolute best to evoke the kind atmosphere, Overlord produced in tense moments.

- A great deal of gore.

Final Rankings.

Animation – 8 – No complaints here.

Sound – 8 – Their efforts were far too evident. CoTE, Arifureta Composer

Story/Plot – 2 – Non-existent story, Poorly paced plot, Themes pauperized.

Characters – 3 – While antagonists were decent, main characters failed on almost every level

Enjoyment – 4 – The production really fought for the viewer’s attention but the substance betrayed

25/50 – I don’t get the joke.

Here’s an idea, just go and rewatch Eminence, Redo and Overlord you’ll have infinitely better time than watching this wretched amalgamation of them.

Hope this helps.

Before you read the rest of this review, I would like simply to tell you: don't watch this show. I assume you knew you were getting into male power fantasy slop when you chose to read into this anime, but this is truly the worst one I've ever seen. Persistent? The rest of my review will contain my completely honest opinion, but my number one goal is still to urge you not to watch it. Story: 2 (Horrible)/10 The story is my absolute least favourite part of this show. What should be obvious already is that it is surface level, completely and absolutely unoriginal, poorly-written andsimply put, slop. This show falls into the category of male power fantasy, and is, as usual, headlined by a black-haired, overpowered MC and his harem. It is also a revenge plot. That, that is my least favourite part of this show. This was, as far as I can remember, my first revenge anime, and I hope it is my last. To be frank, this anime explained to me why our world is as messed up as it is. It's because some people take pleasure in watching others get tortured. No, I would not like to see a waifu attempt to commit small-scale genocide, nor do I take pleasure in watching a squad of guards die a gruesome death for trying to protect their queen. In my opinion, this story's main character is actually the antagonist: not the protagonist. Like many, much better written main villains, he does have an actual motive, accompanied by a tragic backstory, leading to his thirst for revenge. Like those villains, he also fell into the trap of trying to destroy the world, and his whole character arc lead to the conclusion of 'Maybe I won't turn this world into a fiery hellscape. Or maybe I will, but I'm sure my magically conjured harem will set me on the right path'. I don't blame people if they do enjoy it: you can't really help it. However, for me, there was no joy to be had in watching the MC sic the worst suffering imaginable onto his attempted murderers. If you look at it judiciously, his victims are, well, the primary victims. It is true that they were horrible to the MC, but that is because they were raised in a racist society that views humans as lowly animals, and they were offered a large reward for choosing to exterminate one of these animals. I mean, we have pest controllers in real life, and they don't have their loved ones brutally murdered before their eyes, or get sent to the pits of hell. Nothing about what they did is right, but two wrongs will never make it right either, particularly if the second wrong is magnitudes more awful than the first.

Even if we ignore that aspect of the show, which I suppose is its whole purpose, the story still remains as one of the most uninventive things I've ever seen. Who let an 8-year-old's watered-down mishmash of various fantasy tropes take budget and animators away from the biggest flop of this season by the same studio, One Punch Man's third season? Adventurer parties, magical dungeons, various fantasy races and much more make an appearance, as commonly seen in such isekai anime. The reason I like this one the least of all is because of the lack of any redeeming qualities. I have watched many isekai with the exact same tropes, but each had at least one factor that gave it extra points. This had nothing.

Characters: 3 (Very Bad)/10

I've seen a lot of people accuse other anime of cardboard cutout characters, but this is the worst I've seen. In an attempt to flesh out a harem in 12 episodes, they have given every character just one dimension and about three qualities that I could get from a random trait generator in an instant. It's true that they didn't have much time, but just... don't introduce so many characters then? There are likeable characters. There are interesting designs. It's still as much slop as the story is. The self insert shell main character is the worst of all. For lack of a better term, 'holy cornball'. A child awakens his insane power just to use it to try and destroy the world and torture those who have wronged him. He then proceeds to try to be cool with lines such as, and I quote (my subtitles), 'I forgot to give you your wedding gift: an ice cold dish of revenge!' [Insert vine boom] [Insert 'who invited this kid?'] [Insert 'FAH']. If I'm supposed to place myself into his shoes where's the part where I stop acting like a 10-year-old who still has temper tantrums? At least he can justify his not-so-much-illusions of grandeur. They say that suffering builds character, but here's a character built around suffering.

Art: 7 (Good)/10

I truly think this is partially the reason for One Punch Man S3's terrible quality. It's not bad at all, and I'm certain it's a good, much better than deserved adaptation of the manga. It's still very much average, I just don't like giving lower scores to a good product. In the modern anime industry, I'd say average and good are one and the same for animation.

Sound: 6 (Fine)/10

The actual soundtrack is worthy of a 4. However, the OP and ED are both not so bad, and the voice acting, whilst mostly filled with incredibly obscure talents, also has the occasional star-studded cast member, particularly as seen in the appearance of the instantly recognisable Nobuhiko Okamoto, also known as... Katsuki Bakugo!?

Enjoyment: 2 (Horrible)/10

I only watched this anime due to its title. I've had a photo of the first volume of the manga in my camera roll for years just because of how ridiculous it is (the full title, not the shortened one that the English myanimelist entry uses), so I wasn't expecting anything particularly good. I knew it would be slop. What dropped this show around 3 tiers is what I covered in my rant about the story. The amount of times my face contorted with horror after seeing what the MC was threatening others with, or after watching some unnamed extras get mangled made this genuinely unpleasant to watch. It could be better for you, but this was absolutely not for me. Either way, I urge you not to watch this. If you really want to see power fantasy slop, just watch Solo Levelling. It's probably a rewatch but if you'd enjoy this I doubt you care much about plot anyway. I hated this show so much that I sat down to write a review for the first time in ages, and the rating that you see below is the lowest I have ever given. I simply can't believe that its score is so high.

In conclusion,

no.

Story The level of disappointment this anime caused is immeasurable because the core concept actually had potential. A world where humans are a weak race, the betrayal plot, and especially the unveiling mysteries like the "Maestro" could have been great. Instead, the execution feels wasted. We have Level 9999 characters who somehow struggle to beat Level 500 enemies, paired with a lot of childish behavior and barely any actual "gacha" mechanics. The pacing is also a major issue. The MC is weak in the first episode, but by the very next episode, he is already a Level 9999 boss with a thousand waifus. There is noreal sense of progression or struggle. It’s a very shallow show that failed to do justice to its own interesting world-building.

Visuals

Compared to most action fantasy anime, I would say the animation and art style are slightly above average. The quality is consistent and the spell effects are decent, though they aren't exactly unique. It's a polished look, even if we’ve seen these types of visuals many times before in the genre.

Conclusion

This is a cool concept with very weak execution. We barely see any growth in our hero, and the world around him feels very static. If you are looking for something more than just a background watch, I can't recommend this.

I am very tolerant for bad anime, but this crosses the line. I had to watch at 1.5x while playing games in the background to get through the episodes, but the cringe just seeps through the screen. The sole reason I watched more than 6 minutes was because Aoyuki is cute. Story: 0/10 Arifureta clone, but horribly rushed. Character development: 0/10 None, all the girls just love the MC by default. The MC goes from noob to OP in the span of 5 seconds; no build-up, struggle, reflection, just pops a lvl 9999 maid out of nowhere and one shots everything. Animation/Art: 7/10 Only decent part ofthe anime.

Music: Passable.

Unsalvageable dog shit. This anime presents you with a bogus assortment of ne'er-do-wells who exist only to be hated. They are canvases for the OP protagonist to pulverise into caricatures of "DESPAIR". These are not characters, they are painful fabrications: tools with pretty faces. "Here is a betrayal. Here is infinite power. Here is bloody revenge." Pointless. An incel power fantasy with nothing to offer but meaningless spectacle. Tired motions and repetitions, shameless and inauthentic. Stories are essentially vulnerable. Entering a story enters you into the reader-writer dyad, a conversation, a muddy sphere of interpretation and intersubjectivity. You do this even though you know you cannot hope to expressthe wholeness of your being. You know you can never express with certainty what it's like to be in this world, to be subject to messy biochemistry and cold showers and estranged friends. You know pain and aging and the insight to say what should've been said only when it's too late. A quip in that split between breaths, an "Are you okay?" to their silence -- moments forever unchanced. You are doomed to be a stranger even to those closest to you and you know the shared medium of language is no hope to meat-bound strangers like ourselves. And yet you write because you want to overcome this impossible discursive gap, you read because you know there is someone in that brainstem apart from you. They're scared and lonely too, desperate for meaning and order in a world lacking either. Stories are hope that we won't be alone.

This is not a story. This text does not seek connection or communication. The author has not been vulnerable or flared their fears or made public their insecurities. There is nothing for you to be afraid of, there is no conversation at risk. This is a mechanistic process. Villains, hero, no power, power, vengeance. The author isn't here. These are the essentials of commercially successful endeavours prior condensed and repurposed for profit. It is a paint-by-the-numbers recipe for hate boners and mindless slaughter. It's People Playground the Animation. You could explode ragdolls in GMod and be more fulfilled.

Never are you more painfully aware of the arbitrary and fabricated truth of fiction than you are watching this anime. You are aware at every possible turn that these aren't the motives or machinations of minds but of one authorial mind, like watching a child play with dolls.

Ken got married to every Barbie today. Ken got to sleep in his billion dollar mansion today. Ken will kill all the other Kens tomorrow. Ken will never know death. Ken will know no fear, no pain, no ache of age or wear of joints. Ken will forget awkward handshakes, and strangers' faces, and the chesty slime of disappointment. Ken will know only unconditional love. There will never be distance or heartbreak or the uncertainty of reaching out and being left on delivered. There can never be days without seeing others' faces or hearing others' voices, there can never be weeks of aimless consumption and self-defeating self-pity, no misguided years and a hapless decline into sunk-costs and half-measures. There will be birthdays and cakes and nights on the mattress where Ken will wish to have been never anywhere else but here: the embrace of bedsheets and linen and dreams half-forgotten in the morning. Ken will wake up and go to work and come home forever. Ken will be happy forever.

Is it this a fun power fantasy? Sure. Is there some interesting world building? Totally. Are there compelling characters? No. When it comes down to it this series tries it's best to moralize on "Well the humans are treated like shit so it's okay" but this is just a power revenge fantasy. If you want some 6/10 fights or some 6/10 character designs that you can just turn your brain off and enjoy then there are worse things to watch. But also know, the first few episodes feel like a disconnected mess as the plot takes its time to get started.

I'm not really recommend this show if you're a type of person who has a high standard of story writing Btw I'm writing this after watching eps 4. Normally we could understand premise of an anime after watching 3-4 eps. I think the plot line of this anime is a bit messy for people to get attached to it. Aside from the "typical overpower MC", it has a weird timeskip that makes it boring. If only they swipe eps 4 to eps 2, I'm sure people will looking forward to next episode with excitement. Imagine after getting a really dark prolog from eps 1 but then itturned out to be a comedy type of story in eps 2. The so called "main problem" almost solved in eps 3, we could already see the ending.

I don't have problem with the overpower MC, I'm just wondering how much potential it lost. Imagine you watch Tate no Yuusha but you already watch the season 3 and then continue to watch episode 2 of season 1. I'm sure it become boring, even though the story is really cool.

Episode 1: A decent, if slightly slow, introduction. Art, animation, and voice acting are all around average. 6.5/10 Episode 2: 90% of the episode is pure worship of the MC, with everyone obsessing over him and his belongings, and only 10% actually focusing on what happened in the past three years. At least the fanservice doubled as character introductions. 3/10 Episode 3: A satisfying start to the main story, still a bit slow but finally engaging. 7.5/10 Overall rating for the first three episodes: 5.7/10 Given the title, I expected a mediocre but enjoyable power fantasy to watch with my brain off — and that’s pretty much what Igot. If the rest of the episodes follow the tone and pacing of Episode 3, I’ll gladly raise my rating. If the pacing improves, I could see this becoming an 8/10.

I recommend reading this before watching this anime Because this anime is a failure. I love trash. I watch isekai and I can tolerate sub par animation if it means the story is good, I can accept horrible world building if the concept of the show is interesting, and I can stomach the same formula over and over and I’d still find entertainment. I binged the first 3 episodes and I was repulsed. I have Chained Slave on a 7 and solo leveling on a 6 . My standards are based on enjoyment and the quality and the fluidity of the plot that is goingon, and other elements e.g. comedy, themes,, and how much it hit me at that time. And I watch a lot of fantasy, so of course I find it best to reserve my opinions on the repeating themes between similar stories and let them set up so they can tell me a story or a theme. The thing is I hold on every show and I only watch shows when I think I am going to like them. I never watch shows if I think I am gonna not like them or it’s not gonna hit me in a correct way. I’ve yet to watch Death Note and Fullmetal Alchemist because I am saving it for when I know I'll enjoy it. And by golly gee, this anime is stinky.

I came in this anime 3 episodes in and I binged it. And every goddamn time I tried to latch on to something, it feels like they punish me for paying attention. This may as well be the most horribly executed thing I have watched; it reads like a rushed high schooler project. It destroys everything it has set up by the third episode, and thus I will be dropping it.

Here’s the review for the first 3 episodes I did try watch.

Episode 1:

Sin #1 — Everything Goes Wrong in the First 2 Minutes

In the first twenty seconds, you’re greeted with a PowerPoint transition and a flat explanation of the “nine races” in this world — followed immediately by a still image of the MC waving goodbye to some people he calls his family. Ten seconds later, we get four random establishing shots of a town, and suddenly he’s registering for something somewhere.

Thirty seconds in, three problems already:

-I have no idea what’s going on.

-I don’t know whose perspective I’m supposed to be in.

-I’ve just been blasted with worthless exposition.

The MC enters the adventurer’s guild — though the anime forgets to tell us that’s what it is. He whips out his “gacha powers” to show off his gift. Here’s another problem: the show never explains what gifts are. No setup, no idea how the system works. It just drops the word and expects us to roll with it. In the words of Gordon Ramsey ITS F0ckin RAW.

We also never see how he acquired this ability, what it means to him, or even how he figured it out. There’s no discovery, no emotional build up— nothing. His confusion about why his ability doesn’t work gets zero payoff and a random exposition dump later in the episode.

So, within the first ninety seconds, we’ve got:

Three failed exposition drops.

Two missed opportunities for setup.

A family with 9 seconds of screen time and 0 relevance by episode 3 (no voice lines for them).

And by then, like a dog, I was waging my tail. Okay, a little rocky, but surely it'll get better.

(For the sake of my sanity, the analysis gets weaker and more rant-focused from here.)

Sin #2 — The Execution of the Main Hook is Hollow and Meaningless

There have been some shots alluding to racism towards humans. The reason why is never explained. In the 4th minute, we are introduced to 8 characters. I had to go back to the episode to count and also noticed that some of them have no voice lines. We get their names and flashes of their levels are displayed: level 500 dragon guy, level 400 elf girl, etc. What do these numbers mean? We have no baseline, and quite frankly, we never get an explanation as to why levels exist. What's the difference between a guy who's level 499 and level 500? This never gets explained.

He is recruited by the group as they were being nice to him and not racist (cool). They go into a dungeon and it is revealed that they were tricking him to lure him in there to kill him (and it turns out they were racist. Ohhh noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo).

The higher-ups sent the 8 on a covert mission to kill him on suspicion of being the "maestro." There is no setup on how the higher-ups got this info, who the higher-ups are, and we don’t even know what country this guy is from, whether it is a monarchy or a democracy. This is never expanded on, even by the third episode.

The concept is solid itself is interesting I admit.. 8 races sent on a covert mission to take down this potential threat (the MC) only to find him weak. They injure him, but he gets away by triggering a teleport trap. But why does it fail in my eyes?

It’s painted as a betrayal by his close comrades, but this is never set up. We’ve only ever seen them on screen for like 1 minute, and the other minute is spent on them blabbering on about how much they hate the MC, and then proceeding to brutally kill him. They tried to do a “mask off” moment, but all they’ve done to set this up was a 3-second montage of them hanging out, 2 scenes of them not being racist, and one of the girls slightly fawning over him.

By the 12th minute, the only idea of a motive or defining character trait I have of the MC is that:

a. He has gacha powers.

b. He wants to live because he's gonna die????

So, 13 minutes in, I know nothing about the main character, so I have yet to form a reason to care for him. And I just saw the most rushed and unsupported betrayal ever, and now he's gonna die to a monster beyond his comprehension, a level 1000 dog or something.

The gimmick of this anime is presented: he summons (hooray) a level 9999 character (maid), and the dog is swiftly dealt with. The maid exposition dumps that the reason she was summoned is that the gacha ability he has is dependent on the concentration of mana in the surroundings. (Thus telling the audience to keep that in mind. I did, and by episode 3 it was never alluded to again in any fashion.)

But I said to myself: okay, he has this level 9999 character — how is he gonna use this to fulfill his motivations? Okay, this has a lot of potential. He can summon anything he has infinite tries. How will he endeavor? I am so excited to watch this process.

Episode 2

Sin #3 — Nah random 3 year time skip

Time skip (we later find out by episode 3) that 3 years have passed, and now he's a leader of some place. (The name and location of this place are never mentioned; we kind of have to piece that $h1t together.)

So the MC wanders the town with his huge staff, with his maid, and says hi to like 3 people in this castle like area.

How was all this infrastructure built? Never revealed (by ep 3).

Where are we? Never referred to, because the transition was outright artificial and cutoff — anyone could be confused.

All the potential for seeing the process of his growth is gone, and we meet the other level 9999 troops he rolled, and some meandering with the lower maids about licking the spoon that he used. It is also alluded that the maid is out doing recon.

That is all that happens here. Everything important can be distilled into four sentences; everything else is unfocused. They try to do comedy, but it fails. It fails. The maid is sniffing the guy’s bed, and some of the lower maids ask the other level 9999 knight to take this letter to the maid, which basically just says that they also want to clean his bedroom. (I didn’t find this weird or funny; I was blank-faced when watching this in a dark room.)

Episode 3

The maid leads the wolf-race guy and his lackeys to this cave where the MC was supposedly killed. The maid gets angry, and the wolf is scared. The MC shows up behind him, and the wolf is shocked the MC is alive. It’s handled in the most shallow way possible. Let me quote some of the lines:

"Only level 500? How pitifully weak."

"I wear the Bracelet of Youth. It stops me from aging." It helps me remember the pain.

This is where I thought of writing this review because even a stupid trash-eating troglodyte like me can see how bad this is.

Okay, they kill his men and teleport him to the throne room to let the wolf guy see his subordinates. He sits on the throne and tells his subordinates, and I quote: "You may rise, everyone," and shows your stats. Hundreds of troops with level 150, level 7777, level 9999 etc etc random fcin numbers that mean absolutely nothing to us, because we've never seen them before.

Conclusion

So, in conclusion, the reason this anime is bad is because the world is shallow, the pace in the first episode is horrible, and it meanders for no reason (it gives the maids minutes of screen time and yet we have no idea what the MC has been doing for 3 years — where’s his family? How is he gonna conduct his revenge? Nope, we get pent up maids OR NO APPARENT REASON OTHER THAN “haha women are all over this guy” it doesn't even bother to use the perspective of the lower maids to set up or to give way for the structure of the civilization that hes created.).

Additionally, it kills any semblance of interesting development by handling everything in the shallowest way possible. And truth be told, it already answers itself. How, you ask? Well, we just saw a level 500 monster get beaten by a level 9999 monster.

Every fight this anime has presented so far is mind-numbingly one-dimensional and deterministic monotonous chore rather than battle or conflict of morals I can be excited for as the enemy is also quite one dimensional.(HOW CAN YOU DO!!THAT A FIGTHING ANIME WITH FIGHTS I DONT WANT TO SEE) Obviously, higher level beats lower level, so when he does attack the surface, he’s going to win in the end. I don’t need to watch 10 more episodes of this s%it to hope for any more nuance because I am just gonna get disappointed again. Have the self respect in avoiding this anime or watch it while intoxicated for the best experience.

Heard this title from Trash taste and that's how i landed in here. For starters, the beginning was really bad/bland/boring whatever you call it. Didn't entertain me at all, because setting up the revenge aspect of this story was so quick. It didn't even gave time for us to alteast develop some form of attachment to the villains for us to feel betrayed because everything happened in the span of one episode. So everytime mc gets to have revenge to his past party members, i don't feel anything at all. "ohh... yey... finally got his revenge..." boring!. What motivated me to keep going was the world. Sincethey've setup a lot of species in the show, there was a lot to explore, so that made me curios on how they would flow the story.

2nd i guess what shocked coming from JC staff, was the animation, because its actually decent, specially in the last 3-4 episodes of the show where they hype up these special forces of elves vs MC's SSR units.

As for the characters, i wasn't invested in any of them at all. Well, i guess there was one who was written decently and i think it was Jack? who's one of the male SR units of the mc. Also after the 1st ep, i thought this was gonna turn into harem/ecchi show which still is, but good thing they don't focus on that too much because we have this mc who's fixated on revenge.

Overall, i think there's some potential here, though it didn't start off great, the show might able to fly and land decent if they keep up what they got going. I don't expect it to end as a 10, but atleast streaks of 7.

Yes we've all seen these tropes before, yes it's nothing new. It's not like we're always gunna get a frieren level anime all the time or else it wouldnt be special. Story is kind of mid, classic revenge plot but we're here to be entertained and it's good enough. We're told what will happen, he'll get his revenge and he's OP now. Starts off with the classic hook where everything seems to be going well then suddenly the MC is betrayed, using his gatcha power to summon powerful beings who are giga high level to help him fight and train. If you have nothing to watch thisseason (like me), or just waiting for another anime's new episode. Give this a go, you don't need focus too much on the plot as long as you pay attention to critical/fight scenes, it'll do.

If you're a judgy mf who can't consume media unless it's your definition of perfect then move on king.

All I'm saying is, hella fine shyt who're all super strong (women empowerment). Decent quality of animation (much better than other power fantasy slop). I'm in.
