Reviews for Pass the Monster Meat, Milady!
Back to Animenothing burger anime… what was the point? at first, i thought the plot was intriguing since it kinda reminded me of a mix between villainess meets dungeon meshi, but then it kept going nowhere. like why were we flying for fo long? i could not tell you any expanded themes or interesting subplots. i was kinda disappointed and somehow pushed to the end instead of dropping it. i would have liked the romance aspect if it had been expanded upon a little bit more. and the magic and politics could have been so cool… ughhh i’ve seen people say this easily could have been condensed toabout 4-6 episodes and i can’t help but agree. definitely, one of the least interesting shows i have sat through. like i said - nothing burger.
Such potential! But it was wasted on a painfully slow pacing.... It's possible to resume the entire anime in less than 40 words: Noble girl that eats monster meat is saved and proposed to by a Duke - she accepts it and he takes her to his home to introduce her to his people as his fiancée. End of story. Basically it's 12 episodes that could have fit into 4 episodes. To actually be able to be this slow paced, the anime showed us a ton of background information on each character, and spent waaay too much time on trivial scenes. About the overall qualities of the anime:The animation is great, the characters are great, and it has proper character development. There's a balanced amount of supporting characters and plenty of information about the world and monsters that inhabit it.
I don't know if there will be a next season, but it would be worthwhile to watch if they fixed the pacing issue and started to develop an actual plot based on the main character's adventures, or the noble's reactions to their marriage, or introduced an actual villain.
"Surf Dracula is a slang expression describing a trope in television shows and other media in which the character's backstory takes so long that the exciting main part of that character's arc arrives too late and gets insufficient screen time. The trope was metaphorically summarized in a viral tweet about a fictional TV show called Surf Dracula in which the entire first season is the backstory of Dracula getting his surfboard and the actual surfing only happens for five minutes in the finale." This is "Surf Dracula: The Animation". You wanted to see an anime where two characters get married, study magical beasts, eat their met andexpand that to the world? THOUGH LUCK, MY FRIEND! YOU MIGHT GET THIS AT SEASON 2, IF THIS ANIME EVEN GETS ONE!
Get ready for an anime where instead of choosing between three variations of a scene, they'll use all three in sequence. Get ready for an anime in which information being delivered via flashback infodumps rather than chronologically somehow makes it less efficient to be delivered since we'll end up repeating a lot of stuff. And why all that information? I DON'T KNOW, THE VAST MAJORITY OF IT HASN'T BEEN RELEVANT YET AS FAR AS EPISODE 7, WE'RE BEING ROUTINELY INFODUMPED FOR SEVEN EPISODES STRAIGHT FOR SOMETHING THAT MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE.
Koutetsujou no Kanaberi was an anime that took seven episodes for a status quo to finally solidify afters the main cast finally reached their destination after traveling by a steam locomotive all this time. Akujiki Reijou tells us that apparently flying dragons are less efficient than steam locomotives, because seven episodes in and we're apparently nowhere near to reaching a status quo so our main characters can get married, study monsters and expand their cooking to the world. Cooking was only done twice so far.
This a travesty, this is false advertisement, you're not getting the tale of Melphiera and Aristide, you're getting a 12-episode long "Prologue/Episode 0". Honestly, I don't think that's salvageable if the manga is also like this: You could keep the exact same story, but you would have to rebuild the structure in which is is told from scratch. Instead of dedicating half an episode to narrated flashbacks, have instead a full episode set in the past in the childhood of each character ACTUALLY SHOWING US the things happening rater than just having a character telling us what things happened. Hell, have one and a half, two episodes even for each character if needed, the current pacing is so bad that even that would be better somehow.
Just move all that information to the past (Where we would see things happening first-hand and they would have value by themselves) or to the future (When they finally become relevant), but having them in the present is just cannibalizing any kind of plot or character exploration in favor of a "potential story" in the future... which we won't see, because the anime is just 12 episodes long.
Hard to see good fantasy romance these days , hopefully 'pass me monster meat my lady" lived upto it's premise and theme . It literally crossed my expectations. The sub themes like gourmet is well done but unfortunately it's content is less . The fantasy world that this anime describe is pretty harsh , forests crawling with monster which can go mad due to excessive magical energy. I liked the idea of introducing a lot variety of monster. No use of cgi on monster which is a + point for me , fantastic animation, background, landscape, ost etc but op and ed are kinda decent. Alot of side characters are likable even we got some great waifus in anime . Overall i enjoyed the show , affection and feeling of protection that mc show towards his girl is admirable .
I won't mind seeing a another season because relationship started to evolve at the ending.
8/10
I went in with high hopes from having watched dungeon meshi. The concept is nice, and the beginning is promising, but it could've been much better without the forced romance plot. It could've focused more on the monsters and ways to prepare and cook them and been much more appealing. As it is now it's a generic european mediaeval romance with elements of monster eating. You've seen it once you've seen it a thousand times. I can list off multiple anime with similar plot lines which are several times more appealing. The romance too is bland as heck. Besides, any story which has the female lead callingher partner as "name-sama" and the said partner calling her "name" without any suffix, I immediately clock as deeply sexist. "A wife's duty is to appreciate and soothe her husband" shut the heck up.
Generic slop alert.
This anime was very enjoyable. I wish it had been a little stronger though. The characters were interesting and I loved all the monsters and the premise. The romance was cute too, but sometimes things fell a little flat for me and it felt like the drama could have been up a notch a bit which would have fixed some of the monotonous feeling at times. However, despite its flaws, I ended up invested in the characters and the story to the point I would definitely watch a season two. If you like monsters and weird girls, you'll probably enjoy this anime. If you wanta story that feels like the stakes don't drift away a little half way through, then you might get a little bored.
I immediately loved it as soon as I started watching, although it did make me hungry.. not for monster meat but regular meat.. although if we lived in a world of monsters I would probably try one of those mouthwatering skewers. Anyway! The two mains are adorably flustered around each other and I just ate it up! I love their dynamic and I love that they are both considered to be "vile and mad" by the "normal nobles". I also love the ML's dynamic with his subordinate. I expect more funny moments with the two of them. I'm very interested in her mother's research andthe reason behind her death.. not counting out the stepmom being involved just yet.. we'll see. And I can't wait to get to the part with the cute fluffy white monster that looks like a wolf pup because I love wolves! Foxes too so if it's like a fox I'm fine with that too. All in all it's a comical romance with delicious looking scenes and an intriguing story!
This one is interesting. The story about a girl that is known as a "freak" for eating monster meat and a guy that is also considered a "freak" for constantly hunting monsters and being covered in blood. Obviously, following this troupe you quickly are told that the 2 are misunderstood. The girl eat monsters because of a famine that killend many in the territory of her father, and at the time, her mother tried to find ways to make the constantly present monsters as food source, and now, the girl is keeping her mother research alive. In this world, magical entities, be it animal or vegetal, are poisonous to humans, to eat them, you need to remove the mana of their bodies, and also, the dominating religion prays that consume of monsters is a sin.
The guy hunt and kill monsters as it's duties as a duke appointed by the king. His territory is on the border of a forest where the monster population is particularly big and fierce, and the guy don't bothering with noble etiquete in a place like that, is not shy to wander around with some monster blood in it's clothes, making people from the more safe regions to feel uncomfortable about his "bad" manners as a noble himself.
The story is centered around these 2 and the feelings they develop for each other after finding a "twin" soul that is able to accept and understand them as they are, the prejudice many have around their ideals and their journey about constructing a new life together and improving the world around them.
Unfortunately, being a manga reader, I have mixed feelings about the animated version. First is the animation quality, that is atrocious, bad is a compliment for what we have here. Being a fantasy world focused on monster hunting/cooking, having these bizarre child level drawings for the people, scenarios and monsters take away much of the awe you get from the good illustrations in the manga. Second is the personality of the characters, for some reason they simply feel wrong, more dumb and childish than the manga version.
Overall is not a bad story, the characters are charismatic and enjoyable, the lore and world are good and well built, but I recommend to stick to the printed version.
This show doesn't have any story to tell. You might think it does, and it has something to do with monster butchering, but it really doesn't. This show is, first and foremost, a gallery of otome clichés, from smirking shirtless male lead and sparkly female lead, through old and tired "only he undestands me, and I him!" trope, all the way to fucking "evil stepmother that hates the kind and cheerful protagonist who has to be shown up for her haughtiness" plot. Everything else is sacrificed to stuff in as much of those otome soundbites as possible. Natural conversation flow, natural reactions, people behaving the way theirbackstory suggests how they should (a goddamn noble is running in snow on a dirt road in his banquet attire just to chew out his daughter about a letter he received a week ago 10 minutes faster, sure, why not, he's just a fucking count), and even the plot itself seems to conform as much as possible to enable as much shitty otome heartthrobs and drama as it can.
I forced myself to watch the third episode. It's not that I dislike otome shows, but it should never be the main theme. It intrinsically requires subtlety, and this show has as much subtlety about the otome themes as "I assfuck pizza delivery girl for a tip Vol.2 WITH DOUBLE PENETRATION" has about flirting.
I can't recommend it. There are otome shows just as bad, or even worse, than this one, but personally I'd rather rewatch sacrificial princess for the 6th time than waste my life on vapid frankenstein shows that think it's enough to dump enough popular tropes for a show to be good.
Dungeon Meshi, shoujo edition. The premise is simple. Girl is Laios from Dungeon Meshi, aka monsters yummy me want eat! She meets a boy, who is your typical shoujo prince, custom made to love the exact thing she's good at. And.... actually that's it. They just love bomb each other as he takes her home and introduces her as his fiancée. There is nothing wrong with the show. It's a pure shoujo that centers around the couple being lovey dovey. It does fail on two accounts however. 1. The monster designs are boring and generic. They are purposely made to look like the bigger and uglierversion of normal animals. Understandable for a cutesy show but still very boring and doesn't sell the fact that eating them is looked down upon when they don't really look like monsters.
2. Cooking part is minimal. How do we cook monster meat? Oh we add some pepper and BBQ it. How do we cook monster fish? Flour and oil for some deep fried fish balls obviously. No herbs no special preparations or technique to bring out the flavor. Just the absolute basic, flavorless dishes. So much so that the secret to make the characters break in sparkles is, and you'll never guess this one, is to squeeze some lemon or a dash of salt on the dish. Genius...
Because of this I'm removing a star. A cooking show with no real cooking is boring. The couples love bombing each other on first sight is boring. the artificial obstacles the show places in their way aren't really believable.
In otherwords, while there is nothing wrong with the show there is nothing interesting either to keep you invested. I can see it appealing to a young age group though because of the blatant love bombing and nice art but that's about it.
This was enjoyable. Sometimes you need something soft and warm and this is a great option. A fantastic one to binge when you're not feeling well. The world building is interesting and consistent enough to make it feel unique yet grounded. The plot is relatively straightforward with little to no hiccups since every character is more or less nice. The main criticism I have is that the ending was a bit abrupt so I'm hoping there's another season. Although it's not a deal breaker. I started to think of it more as a slice of life in the later half of the season.
Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! starts off with a surprisingly strong and refreshing introduction. The early episodes present an interesting premise with hints of depth, blending fantasy elements with light romance in a way that initially feels balanced and engaging. At first, the story gives the impression that it is building toward meaningful character growth and a larger narrative. As the series continues, however, that early promise slowly disappears. The plot loses focus and becomes repetitive, leaning heavily on flirtatious and teasing moments instead of actual progression. What once felt subtle and charming eventually turns excessive, making the viewing experience feel more awkward than enjoyable. Another majordrawback is the lack of character development. The characters are introduced with clear abilities and potential, yet these aspects are barely explored. Rather than expanding the world or deepening the characters’ roles, the story keeps them static, leaving much of the narrative feeling shallow and underdeveloped.
Although the manga and light novel are still ongoing, I have no interest in continuing them. The anime failed to provide enough substance or direction to justify investing more time, and even if a second season were announced, I would not feel compelled to follow it. Ultimately, the series feels like a missed opportunity—strong at the start, but unable to deliver a satisfying or meaningful payoff.
Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! The anime is about a girl who loves to eat " Monster meat " while everyone thinks ts taboo and poisonous her father wanted for her to get married but her nickname and her actions continuing to eat monster meat made no one to marry her, tahts when she meets her prince with a sharp sword slaying a monster who was gonna attack on her , both of em falls in love for eachother in the very first episode and which lead for em to get engaged and their story begins . The anime has beautiful colours and a warm vibe aboutit even tho the story moves fast as both the male and female MC get closer to each other by ep 6-7 the anime is kinda slow after that like they showed em travelling for 2 episodes in air just talking and 5 minutes of landing part for food which is kinda not necessary they could have shortend it to 1 episode as they couldn't give the anime a proper ending for as per 12 episodes the last episode felt like " there's going to a be 13th episode for sure " the ending is unfinished .
Hope the announce a second season soon so we get to see the anime properly .
I liked it a lot, to keep it simple. The romance aspect is definitely better than a lot of its counterparts in the romance genre, but the big problem is that there isn't much of a story that goes along with the show. Yes, the lead has a goal she wants to achieve, but that's about as deep as it gets. The Food looks great (made me buy beef stew), the romance was good, but the story just felt too shallow in my opinion. To that end, the overall pacing could've been better, and I wish at least part of Melphie's goal had been achievedby the end of the 12th episode; that way, it wouldn't feel like the season just stopped at any random spot.
Either way, I still enjoyed the watch, definitely bingeable in 4 hours, and I hope a second season comes out so I can be proven wrong about the lack of depth.
This is a very cute and sweet romance I love the way her fiance supports her dream even when her nation doesn't. The only thing that comes across the wrong way is that I'm pretty sure the events of this anime happen in like the span of a week. but if you look past that fact this anime is as cute as they come though it could make a little bit of sense, since the main girl has been neglected her whole life and finding the glimpse of attention from someone might make her attached to them. I wouldn’t know if I would call thislove though But overall, whenever they’re together, it leaves you with a warm fuzzy, which is what I look for when I watch a romance, and if you’re into that type of thing, then I would recommend this, but it might not be the best option for someone who’s just getting into romance since you might feel the relationship is a little bit rushed but considering the setting that this anime is placed in it is to be expected realistically speaking, but just the fact alone, rubs you the wrong way
I just finished Monster Meat Milady and I’ve gotta say: it’s the definition of a comfy watch. Let’s be real, the animation and character designs are pretty mid—nothing that’s gonna blow your mind or win any awards. But honestly? It doesn't need to be flashy. The whole experience of following the story was super chill and relaxing. It’s one of those shows you put on after a long day just to decompress. The highlight for me: The ED (Ending Theme) is an absolute banger. I legitimately fell in love with the song; I never skipped it. It just fits the mood of the show so well. Verdict: It’s abasic anime, but a good one if you’re looking for something low-stakes to pass the time.
Are you looking for something deeply soothing and heartwarming that will help you forget your everyday worries? Then this anime is just for you. It's one of those feel-good, comforting anime that lets you relax. The main characters fall into each other's arms in the very first episode and are perfect for each other. Practically everyone here is nice and friendly, and you'll hardly find a single negative character. That's the main and only reason why anyone should watch it. Unfortunately, the rest is mostly negative. Although the story doesn't pose any obstacles for the main characters, its pace is desperately slow. That wouldn't matterso much if it were filled with the main reason why anyone would start watching it. And that is cooking monsters. The monsters aren't particularly interesting, just larger animals, and their preparation is also very ordinary. But most importantly, the number of times a monster is cooked can be counted on the fingers of one hand. This is a very serious shortcoming for a show that presents itself as being about food. Even more so than the slow plot. Which is sad, because the anime outlines an interesting background to the world and the behavior of monsters and their use.
There's no point in commenting on the animation and voice acting, they're okay.
For those who want to curl up under a blanket with a cup of cocoa in the evening, I can recommend it, otherwise it's better to move on to another show.
This anime surprisingly entertaining. It's not incredible, but considering its target demographic, which have a tendency to not have much for anyone outside of said demographic, it kept me watching and invested. This is an anime that's clearly aimed for women, it's escapist fantasy for women the same way battle shonen or harem anime are for men. It's about a young woman named Melphiera Marchalrayd, who is the daughter of a count. She loves eating monster meat, a trait that earns her disgust from most of her peers. She also studies monsters to learn more about how to cook themand the dangers of it, a passion that she took over after her mother died. One day she meets a Duke from a neighboring kingdom named Aristide Rogier du Galbraith who obtains an immediate fancy to her. He falls for her looks of course, but also her cherry personality and straightforwardness. Also she convinced him and his attendant to eat monster and they both loved it. Not long later Aristide sends a notice of proposal to Melphiera's father, which is important because her father has been wanting her to find a man to marry, even going as far to say that at this point even a knight would do. While he doesn't believe the Duke is serious at first, and neither is she for that matter, it doesn't take long until the Duke convinces them, and the consemate the engagement and Melphiera goes to live with Aristide for awhile until their marriage.
There's many things that separate this anime from many of its contemporaries. The main female character is NOT boring and bland. Most of the time the female lead of these anime are meant to be blank slates so the women watching can project onto them. But Melphiera has personality. She's passionate, she's funny, she can be serious but also silly. She's more than just a pretty or cute face that only serves the purpose of providing the fantasy for women of marrying a hot, wealthy, powerful man. Of course that aspect is there as well, but there's more to it so someone like me can also enjoy it and this pleasantly surprised me. There were multiple times when I chuckled or even laughed out loud, and most of the time Melphiera was at the center of it when that happened. I also liked her father more than I expected. In most anime like this her father would have been incredibly unlikable as a way to make us sympathize with the female MC more, but that's not the case with him. I got the feeling that he genuinely cared for his daughter and wanted the best for her, but didn't know how to approach helping her since she was so different from everybody else around them. We know he did support her research, albeit silently, because it was revealed that he was the one who spread the nasty rumors about her that made people afraid of her specifically to protect he research. And if you think that makes him unlikable, I don't think so, it makes him flawed, especially since he was willing to admit he'd gone too far.
There are things I didn't like. Melphiera does have a mean stepmother. I don't know why so many stoires need one of those. Like what does the father see in women like that who ar ejust going to be awful to his daughter? Is the woman just really good at hiding her true nature from the man? Because she makes no attempt to hide it when the daughter in question is around. And why is it always a duaghter that has an evil stepmother, why never a son? And why is there no evil stepfather? I have so many questions that I don't think anybody, even the creatives, have answers to. But thankfully she doesn't appear very much. In fact in only like one episode, for a couple minutes. And like I said before this anime wasn't incredible, but it was funny, entertaining, and very wholesome, and that's way more than I expected going into it.
FINALLY - an anime that balances romcom, story, and magic/action without going overthetop. If you're a fan of Yona, SAO, even a touch of Snow White w/ Red Hair, this is for you. What I appreciated most was this wasn't an over-dramatization of a one-sided love. The season could easily be an extended intro, but most productions these days seem to have this "will it work" mentality before we get the whole story. I'm excited to read the Light Novel since THESE really show the series' potential - 86 being the most ICONIC example of this in the last decade. Could havedone with a bit more action, but hopefully this is the build-up to season 2??
Cute anime and somewhat decent for its genre, but there’s not much going on? The main plot line from the beginning was Melphiera’s mom investigation, which was intriguing, but as soon as she meets the duke it goes down the drain completely. Also, we didn’t get a sort of explanation as to why the stepmother knew Melphiera’s mother nor how she got engaged with the mc’s father in the first place. Overall it’s an okay anime to watch and the main ship is good (although it stays from beginning to ending as a shallow relationship) but it could use a better story writing.
