If you like a super fantasy anime, this anime could be a good choice. It’s an epic donghua filled with action, mystery, and myth. The story follows Qin Mu, a curious and brave boy raised by mysterious elders, as he explores a world of ancient gods, powerful sects, and hidden secrets. The animation is stunning, featuring intense battles, rich world-building, and jaw-dropping visuals. Each episode draws you deeper into a world of twists, strange powers, and bold challenges to tradition. Although Tales of Herding Gods has some drawbacks like complex lore, uneven pacing, and a large cast that leaves some characters underdeveloped, if you love fantasy withheart, depth, and beautiful art, Mushen Ji is a must-watch!

Set in a fantasy world rich with stories, monsters, gods and powers this show can't wait to rush to next thing. While each episode is filled with very pleasant CGI you will struggle to keep up with already short format. Biggest offender in my opinion is lack of sense of scale. We as an audience have not a single clue how powerful someone is. At one point we'll watch main character defeat legendary monsters and ghosts, trained by the best teachers hiding in the ruins of the forgotten world, and few episodes later he'll struggle against some no name character who farted in his handand summoned a true deity through their training.

In short power scale is all over the place. We expect him to be the strongest because he's the main character, but time and time again someone will show up and mess the whole scale again. And then you see MC overpower them as well making you wonder why the hell did he struggle in last episode. We never see him train or invest any effort in his skills. Just the result of them.

Overall it's short, repetitive, formulaic and too rushed to be enjoyable. They could have easily slowed down some of the scenes and stretched episodes to 24 minutes without adding new content and it would feel just fine and probably better overall. As it is, for me it's a mixed bag. Might be more entertaining for you.

Tales of Herding Gods is a breath of fresh air in the cultivation genre. It features a truly unique plot that avoids the usual clichés. The story follows an orphan protagonist, and his mysterious origins create a constant sense of suspense. Who is he really? Where did he come from? Even as of January 4th and 64 episodes in, many of these mysteries remain unsolved, keeping the audience hooked. After researching the web novel (which is massive, with about 1,800+ chapters), I found that the author, Zhai Zhu, crafts a very deliberate world. While the MC's parents and the "Disabled Village" elders play huge roles throughoutthe story and survive for a long time to fight in a massive final war, the death of the Patriarch of the Heavenly Saint Cult serves as a major, philosophical turning point for the series.

The animation quality is top-tier. As a Nian Qing (Yearly) release, this show is built for the long haul. With the current pacing of 3–4 chapters per episode, this donghua could easily run for at least 10 years. The pacing is fast, the subtitles are high quality, and it never feels like it's dragging.

For those who dislike harem tropes: while there are romantic interests (about three prominent female characters), the focus remains very tight. His main partner and primary "cultivation companion" remains the Princess (Ling Yuxiu), and the romance doesn't distract from the plot.

The next 30 episodes are set to be some of the most important in the series. If you are reading this after episode 100, let me know how the payoff was!

Final Verdict: 8.8/10 — Definitely worth watching.
