Review: Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time I just finished watching all 12 episodes of Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time in one sitting, and I have to say—it was a fantastic experience! What really stood out to me was how refreshing this anime felt, despite being labeled as a harem. Unlike most harem anime, the main character wasn’t a pervert, and there was no forced romance or awkward ecchi moments. Instead, the story focused on genuine bonds between the characters, which made it feel much more meaningful. The dynamic between the characters was truly the heart of the show. It felt less like aharem and more like a found family—a group of misfits who helped each other break free from their past struggles. The relationships weren’t about attraction or shallow infatuation, but rather about trust, support, and personal growth. Each character had their own burdens, and together, they gave each other the strength to move forward.

The storytelling was also really well done. It wasn’t just about action or adventure; it had emotional depth that kept me invested from start to finish. Even though it’s a fantasy anime with alchemy and magic, the way the characters connected felt incredibly real.

Overall, Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time was a genuinely good anime. It defied expectations, delivering something heartfelt rather than just another generic harem story. If you’re looking for an anime with strong character bonds and a wholesome atmosphere, I’d highly recommend giving this one a watch!

This is good trash isekai, and I say that from a place of love for trash isekai. This has all the ingredients that make a solid trash isekai in place and a unique-enough story. It's a lighthearted and enjoyable watch if you're looking to throw something on with all the tropes you would expect. But at the same time there's nothing particularly special about it either. There's the standard OP main character that gets tossed into another world, gets stronger every episode, has a handful of challenges that are easily resolved, and minor struggles throughout. There's a fair amount of world building and some predictable character building. Ifyou like trash isekei, you'll probably enjoy this. If you're looking for something deeper or highly engaging, you'll probably want to give this a miss.

No - even for a trash isekai fan this is not a good isekai. Takumi gets alchemy and literally every other skill and starts making everything from toilets, to inter-dimensional wagons, to pocket storage. There isn't anything he cannot do, but the magic system is all over the place making it annoying to grasp. You never get a very satisfying OP protagonist moment. The saving grace is that the plot is fast. It felt like every two episodes might be covering a new story arc, sometimes a single episode felt like it covered what a normal LN would take a entire volume to cover. Theevents themselves might have been acceptable if the animation wasn't abysmal. Every action scene is a shot of a single still frame with movement lines drawn on them. As a viewer there is no excitement brought by watching this show, and with a lackluster story everything else falls apart.

Yes, there is a lot of slavery in this as well - and girls who protest being released from their slave contracts. The other summoned Japanese people are constantly shown and are mostly irrelevant, but they spend 2-3 minutes each episodes showing them being generically evil. Takumi doesn't develop at all as a character; maybe towards how he views his slaves, but nothing that distinguishes him over any other protagonist. It feels like he just reacts as a nice guy would to everything going on around him.

Overall, i would suggest watching any other isekai that has somewhat half decent animation over this show.

Another OP MC that gets plenty levels and new skills every episode doing anything. Sadly the MC is unlikable wuss and absolute imbecile that constantly shows everyone things he is warned about and even goes into trouble to hide. As I mentioned before, he can do anything so obv be makes things like toilet and fridge (for no reason since he has dimensional storage and purification magic) and puts it in his house where he constantly gets visitors. This show isnt bad at everything it does, but somehow the sum feels like huge insult to the intellect of average middle schooler., yet alone someone who watched morethan 10 shows...

I wonder why we have to wait years for next seasons of well received shows, while every season there is shat like this and its specially frustrating this season when these kinds of shows make 50% of it

*Warning to sound-sensitive people: the Guild Master's VA (Japanese) has a pitch that not everyone would find "pleasant to the ears".* Dropped midway into episode 5. Reason: deviates too much from the original work and the manga adaptation. There should've been more focus on the main character's alchemy and production side of things, many interesting details regarding his abilities as an alchemist got removed or over-simplified. Episode 5 started with a major deviation from the original plot, including removing one of Takumi's main reasons for traveling to Horus. Episode 4 removed a comedic element directly related to why he sought advice from the guild in Episode 5. Instead, thecontents that should've spanned 3 episodes got stuffed into a single episode 5 with additional unrelated hero-summoning-related content.

To summarise, the anime side scraped off the characters' essence and flesh only to move on with the Sidonia hero-summoning-related plot line.

This story has the word "alchemist" in the title - which should've been the main focus. Did the anime production team fail to choose the most appropriate and interesting direction for this adaptation? Possible.

Positive points:

1. the original soundtrack is good and fits the setting - it has DnD vibes.

2. the character drawings are cute and quite high-quality, it's a saving grace to all the animation shortcuts used.

Reading the manga adaptation while playing the original soundtrack in the background will be time spent better than watching this anime adaptation.

I have watched so many isekai. So many. And most of them are bad. I don't mind it, really, because its like eating a mediocre candy that makes your teeth stick together and is a pain to unwrap but, at its core, there is sugar. Isekai is anime sugar. That's all. When it has anything extra, great. But this anime, like many others, is just bad. The sugar isn't sweet, and I lose energy to even unwrap it. But here's a question, not particularly directed at this anime, but why is slavery being pitched as a good thing? I swear to god, I've seen like10 anime where the MC decided 'oh hey everyone in this world has slaves I'll go try it out, I'm a nice guy', and then they go get like 2 or three slaves (nearly always women/girls), and because they're so nice, bashful, and sort of quirky young talented protagonists, it's all great! That's just idiotic.

This one, for example. Third episode, the guy is going to a slave buying pitch meeting, and he tells the person 'where i'm from, we don't usually have slaves', and then he learns that the slaves here get food and water (which isn't new at all), and he's like 'wow, maybe having slaves is actually pretty sweet!' Then he picks out two women, acts shy and coy around them like the MC that he is, and they respond 'don't be polite to us', and he just smiles! He agrees! He knows they're fucking slaves and he's like 'hey, at least i'm nice and i won't try to sleep with you haha!'

The rest of the anime is the same as a million others. Honestly. I think if AI ever writes a script for a tv show fully, it'll be an isekai. You don't even need AI, you could just copy paste alot of the same shit from the worst ones and it'd work as an anime. It would be an especially bad one, but not even the worst. Because maybe it wouldn't advertise 'cutesy isekai slavery'. Maybe not that. Let's stop doing this. God, stop making the women fall in love with their 'master' because he's so 'gentle' yet 'powerful' and 'nice'.

This show is developing the way we all seem to develop stories in our head moments upon waking up after a great dream we had. Story in which everything goes your way and you only need imagine something to be granted. Where things magically fall into their own place and no one is better looking, stronger or smarter than you. First few episodes go somewhat slow but in a very predictable and well trodden path of issekai shows. Then things start speeding up and all of the sudden you find yourself challenged to accept even the simplest of stupid things of which there's plenty. Left andright things appear and go in favor of our main character who is supposedly under the influence of starter's luck. But even then it's too much.

Skills appear out of nowhere, leveling happens because, things of importance happen off-screen, etc. Episode 4 broke me. Whole town, it seems, is busy oooing and aaahing main character and being generally stumped at his greatness. Not only that, every action he takes dials things up to 11 again. And again. And again. By the end of this episode he already has a harem, people envy him, he screams like a degenerate goat in attempts to invoke feeling of humor, he already beat hard quest and is giving immediate jump in ranks.

Are we serious? Is this how low things have fallen? This is borderline unwatchable even though animation is okay, as is character and sound design. But story... immensely stupid. By the end of the episode he was screaming so much, I had to drop the show and write this review while promising myself I will start spending my life in smarter ways. I've given it a 5 because it's average. It's not bad, but simply put it's not... anything. Faceless and lacking character. Watch at your own risk.

Yes, this is an isekai anime, not a pure fantasy anime. This detail isn’t crucial to the plot, but it’s good to know what you're getting into. Like most isekai this season, it's far from polished—hell, it even feels rushed. Every episode gives the impression that chunks have been cut out. While these missing pieces aren’t crucial to the plot, they definitely weaken our connection to the protagonist and heroines. The animation? Not great. I get that this isn’t supposed to be an action-heavy anime, but some of the fight scenes feel like they have five frames—total. And don’t even get me started on the opening animation. It’s, without a doubt, the laziest opening of the season. The song is decent, but the animation? It looks like they didn’t even bother.

Now, despite all that, this anime isn't the worst isekai of the season. Unlike most isekai airing right now, this one actually has a plot. They’re trying to set up something big instead of just giving us 12 episodes of the MC steamrolling enemies while every character worships him. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still some of that MC worship going on, but compared to other isekai? It’s nowhere near as excessive. Let’s just say it’s not Steven Seagal levels of bad.

One of the anime’s stronger points is its characters. Their designs are decent, and you can tell they’re supposed to be attractive. Most of them are likable, and it’s genuinely more enjoyable to watch a deuteragonist who’s kind and helpful rather than an asshole just because.

Would I recommend it? If you’ve got plenty of free time, maybe. But honestly? Just read the manga instead.

first of all, this one is not exactly formulaic with the usual isekai, summoned to another world, based on fantasy fiction, and with RPG mechanics. but it also does tick a few boxes in the herd of other shows with those elements i mentioned. SPOILER HEAVY REVIEW! because frankly, the first few reviews i read of this show were HYPER-critical for no apparent reason other than, the reviewers just wanted to tank this show's appeal to the MAL readers. let's start with where Alchemist doesn't 'follow the guidebook'. 1 MC is 'timeskipped' BACK in time to a YEAR earlier than the three other heroes. sohe's got a leg up. meaning, the same ritual summons all four people from Japan, but the MC gets to spend a YEAR in-world more than the other three folks.

2 all four of them were 'illegally' summoned using a forbidden spell.

3 the MC doesn't get OP out of nowhere. yes, he's got the goddess' blessing on his status card. he also gets some basic stats boosts above and beyond the 'average villager/peasant'. but he DOES have to work at things... grinding operations, making lots of items, learning about his new world, fighting monsters to grind levels, getting trained by experts in various fields, and enjoying himself while he does it.

4 this show is not HEAVY with the crafting, and one reviewer lambasts the anime for NOT concentrating on the crafting/learning like the original source does. but do we REALLY need to go through ALL the mechanics and blablabla BOOKS can clutter a STORY with? especially with JUST twelve episodes? if there were 24 eps all the etcetera etcetera of the MC's 'rise to crafting genius' could have been used.

5 YES the MC owns slaves, but he releases them eventually.

6 YES the MC's party are all cute ladies/girls, demi-humans, one human, and he has the ever-present mascot pet-girl, and a mighty steed. but the romance/ecchi/horni in this show IS low-key and more kawaii/cute/lovely than Gainax Boing and fantasy female armor trope MOAR SKIN = HIGHER ARMOR CLASS. so, NO obsessively in-love and harem romance competition and cat-fighting in the party.

7 the MC makes most of his own and his party's equipment. no armor shop and items shop and blablabla are used in this show.

8 the Adventurer's Guild isn't a place for macho muscular abusive aholes who try to do bad-guy stuff with their abilities etc. in every one of these twelve episodes the AG is awesome and supportive. no 'evil adventurers' have shown up so-far.

9 with that 'illegal summoning' the REAL goddess in charge of this world DOES have a fake competitor but... the fake is more of a concept and possibly still an amorphous 'biggest of the bad guys' to come after these 12 episodes' events.

10 the country that did the summoning is pretty evil. not totally rancid and demonic, but they're damn set on eventually conquering the whole world. they're not the 'good guys' summoning heroes to 'defeat the Demon Lord'.

i'd go on but 10 points of 'outside the norm isekai show' is enough, but there are more.

now, onto how Alchemist goes along with the formula.

1 yep, normal RPG game mechanics, skills, levels, no EXP but somehow 'IT' happens to grind levels. status card. item box. the whole nine yards. monster exterminations. escorting and other quests given out by the Adventurer's Guild.

2 yep, MC has an all-female party. i mentioned that before.

3 normal summoned to another world heroes who are exceptional somehow.

4 MC uses his modern Earth knowledge to help this new world. but he doesn't go totally nuts with it and has to use the new-world-systems and magic to accomplish one simple feat. making toilets that 'purify the poop' so sewage isn't deadly. there is STILL sewage but treating 'poop' and moving it safely is 'better after it goes through his toilets'. so 'attaching' these new toilets to existing 'waste treatment systems' is easy. very simplistic and thumbnail sketch used in this anime so, maybe the source blathers on too long about this and the studio simplified it immensely? almost forgot, MC also makes fridges and freezers.

5 MC is the classic naïve sensitive nice-guy, white hat, relaxed slow-life loving, wannabe slacker, and DOESN'T want to stand out in the crowd. 'The Tall Nail Finds The Hammer' is the old Japanese saying. but he is ALSO still a self-destructive, over-working himself, Japanese wage-slave. but his joy of crafting and making things and being a blacksmith/alchemist/mage etc. is part of the usual 'i want to protecc!' mentality of isekai good-guys.

ok that's enough of that.

onto the technical parts of the review.

art. not bad! i liked the designs of everything, they were attractive. overall, this show is not HYPER-realistic and photograph detailed. simple lines and a definite lack of texturing is apparent. CGA is minimal, well blended, and mostly for mob shots where large numbers of secondary and tertiary items/characters are in-frame. as i mentioned previously, the ecchi/sexy/Gainax Boing/half-naked girls... not much here for those type of isekai fans. sorry folks, the sexy is subtle.

acting. i watched Crunchy's simulcast English dub for eps1-12. good EDub, i enjoyed it. but the MC's EVA Zac Loera DEFINITELY needed to 'butch things up'. yes the MC is in a 16–17-year-old body... but Mr. Loera kept the MC in the 'middle school range' of male vocal tones incorrectly. i've no clue about the Japanese cast.

animation. a smidge above average. stills were overused though. too many minimally animated stills in fight scenes were used. as usual with a middle-to-low-budget anime, the fight scenes were mediocre. the CGA was well done! i liked it! needs improvement with differentiating between mob models though. too many 'cut n paste' monsters, make 3-5 different types of 'one monster' does take more work/time/cash but... it does make a show look better. that last point bridges art and animation, but \shrug/ meh! i gotta put it somewhere! :D

music. meh. blah. boring. environmental and situational music were average and unnoticeable 100%. OP/EP are both forgettable. but i'm not into Japanese OP/EP music to start with so... i'm biased.

SFX/foley/sound effects. i'll just tumble them all together to shorten my review. foley, good! sound effects, good! special effects, good!

writing/story. it did NOT suck! this show was fun and entertaining and enjoyable. just because a screenplay is highly compressed or simplified or deletes 'too much' from the source (i do NOT read sources i'm just going off one bitchy reviewer's statement) doesn't mean the show is shallow. Alchemist goes into the backgrounds of the humanoid/human party members and doesn't skimp on the details. the character development is there, subtle, minor, takes time, but the MC and Main Supporting Cast aren't flat/2D people. the 'other three heroes' are definitely LACKING in character reveals AND details AND their development is meh! the girl hero does have a good deal of depth, but the two guys?? maybe the brainwashing COULD have been concentrated on more? or whatever happened to the two guys. but the girl being highly suspicious of 'the new world' was interesting. the two guys' easily accepting blablabla didn't make sense to me, but maybe that was the lack of episodes/screen-time to present the 'three other heroes' story properly?

to sum Alchemist up? i gave it an 8/10 because it was fun and attractive and entertaining. the pros vs cons for me weighed too heavily on the pros side for me to put this show in the average-5-range. but the cons did keep this show WELL out of the 10 to 9 range for me.

This anime is not bad nor good either it's like a fast food meal that tastes good but has an oily feeling to it this is the best way to describe this anime. I watched the entire anime and there were moments where I was actually enjoying the show and other where I felt like iam about to drop it. let's start with the bad points of the anime: 1. It feels like they skipped alot of manga details about the alchemy of the main character 2. The characters often over react to things in a weirdly pointless way especially the main character and there is alot of pointlessdialogue in the anime that I can't say I enjoyed.

3. The voice acting gets annoyingly sharp sometimes.

Now for the Good points:

1. The music is great it fits the anime in a nice way.

2. The main character worked hard to use the blessing given to him in the right way.

3. the characters are fun to watch.

Overall the anime gets a 5.8 from me

It's enjoyable if you want a chill isekai anime and you like the idea of alchemy so I recommend it if you are into that.

Possibly the greatest Adventurer/Hero/Simp of all time? To all alchemy enthusiasts, forget about it, this alchemy has no laws to it they’re just making it up as they go along. Before you, read my review I implore to read AeroGunz and Eatsik’s reviews which condensed very important parts about this show very well. First of all slavery is neither good nor bad, is it a fact of life. Slavery is pervasive it may not be obvious who is a slave or not but it’s part of life. If you feel a visceral anger towards it, you may need to expand your knowledge and understanding as you are currentlyunder a brainwashing spell.

Second of all I am sick.

I shall describe my condition:

• I’m sick of being catfished: Here he’s an alchemist, but then becomes primarily an adventurer, then suddenly the hero..

• I’m sick of putting a character at the peak of unregulated, uncontrollable, post-pubertal hormonal surge putting him in-front of the flashing red targets of those hormones. No of not just one target, not 2 not 3… Can you guess how many? All at his mercy, his beck and call and then having nothing happen. Because he’s a good boy!

• I’m sick of fake, misplaced, misunderstood, morality, ‘Paragon’s of Virtue’ as AeroGunz puts it. There’s no story and the plot refuses to punish him meaningfully for any decision he makes.

• I’m sick of dipping our toes into controversy, not going through with it and leaving at the first junction.

• I’m sick of writers manufacturing vulnerable states then having none of the enemies take advantage of those states.

• I’m sick of establishing hierarchies and cultural orders then smashing them for “modern sensibilities” ruining immersion.

• I’m sick of being spoon-fed exposition instead of actually doing it.

• I’m sick of harem overload with several characters serving no real purpose other than to be a pretty face.

• I’m sick of stuffing entire volumes of LN’s into 12 episodes.

• I’m sick of introducing main characters as the pillars of the plot then turning them into jobbers.

• I’m sick of main characters apologizing for nothing, like it’s some sort of virtue.

• I’m sick of reducing the various levels of interpersonal relationships between the opposite sexes to this grotesque word “Partner” which denotes this charade of equality where there never was any.

• I’m sick of narrating events to us when you can just show it to us in dialogue.

I think you get the gist.

I shall now objectively review this.

Animation

I’m sure this isn’t everyone’s first rodeo, our expectations are low and in this case, for good reason. I mean I was straight-faced through most of it but then the last 2 episodes arrived and I felt almost delirious, I thought I was hallucinating or something I mean some of those animated moments were mysteriously trippy, and really lacking any fluidity.

Sound

Just amateur, soundtrack was incredibly one note and in some areas in total dissonance. Rather poor showing here from the direction to the composer it’s lackadaisical. OP and ED, girls singing in high pitched voices ever heard of it before?

Story

Not Found, There’s a single character who undergoes any meaningful change.

Plot

Confusing, sped up, cut through randomly, a puzzle of weightless events and tasks that contribute nothing to any sort of build-up. There’s no tension, no profound discoveries. Exposition which is repeated over and over again for negligible compounded effect. It’s all too easy for the MC. Let’s just add healing powers, let’s just add conjuring stuff out of nothing, Let’s just add interdimensional sleeves, and space manipulation/expansion. There’s just no limitations on him at all, there’s no hole he can’t just immediately generate a fix for. It doesn’t play like a comedy so it’s rather farcical. No social barriers, No influence barrier, and it’s just collect girls to put on the wall as a trophy, which is utterly pointless. Introduce 3 other main characters but the oh so familiar familiar: 'girls good, man bad' theology makes for an exciting bonanza. These are main characters built up to be side characters.

What a difference those first few episodes were, focusing on alchemy with various non-female characters somewhat nuanced, fresh dialogue, fleeting humour, touching subversive topics like slavery maturely, subsequently 2 girls in and we are plunged into the valley of the shadow of death. The evil which we must fear, the harem. It loses absolutely all of it as we dive into the swamp of cookie-cutter, mundane mediocrity us Isekai fanatics have become accustomed to.

Characters

Initially seemed promising. The more I delved in, the worse it got, till I had to physically stop myself watching the later episodes, in absolute boredom and disgust. From the playing out of the dialogue roughly the same over and over again. Convictions recited constantly. It’s so forgettable and after the fact it verifiably contributed to nothing.

To how much of a pathetic spineless simp the MC is there's no end, it really does get out of hand. There has to be balance or somekind of drawback, setback or disadvantage, unfortunately the writers don't understand how, they can't translate life experience into their work. There’s just too many women it just ruins everything from the plot to the story to the narrative, It all gets dumbed down and subverted. The state of this guy, his own party won’t even let him recruit a man. It’s just draining to hear these harpies talk over and over again and none of them are banging him. I don’t know how it’s possible to talk like this as a reincarnated soul. He’s a complete push over, the show breaks the fourth wall at a certain point talking about how pitiful he is. It’s supposed to get better, but it doesn’t because he has to be “respectful” to his female slaves!

This discourse between the main cast, it's a slow burn, it only gets worse. Don’t get me started on the poor humor, for example, they have a rather obtuse obsession with toilets as a gag. It’s utterly revolting, and just takes you out of any sort of engagement when watching this show a total immersion-breaker, didn’t laugh once. Why are we talking about toilets in a fantasy world?

Final Rankings

Animation- 5

Soundtrack – 4

Plot/Story – 4

Characters - 5

Enjoyment - 5

23/50 – 4.6/10 – 5/10 - Garbage

It’s a shame because it started off in a way that was quite endearing, but it was all a facade.

I don’t recommend you watch it, I have no idea what the source fares like, but on a whole it seems the whole “Greatest Alchemist” thing is an attempt to differentiate it from other Isekai simultaneously riding on the coattails of FMAB. It’s surface level attempt at alchemy foundation later pivoting to our modern fantasy classic of adventuring, pocket-girl collector, but you don’t have any intimacy because you’re a great guy. Themes mixed together hurriedly and achieving nothing.

There’s no itch here scratched for anyone who’s particularly interested in certain themes, so I can’t recommend it in that way either.

I watched this dubbed in English.

A hard pass.

Hope this helps.

An entertaining series with some big problems. The story follows Takumi Iruma a middle aged salaryman who is mistakenly summoned to another world. However the goddess of the world compensates him by granting great power and blessings to help him along the way. Long story short while he wants to live a quiet life he is dragged into conflicts due to his great power and skills while gaining the usual harem along the way of course. Story: 6 I honestly enjoyed the story and found it a relaxing watch, however after the first three episodes that pacing becomes quite erratic. The initial arc of getting comfortable with theworld and meeting the first two main girls is taken at an easy pace, bits of world building and character building sprinkled in. However after that it seems to progress at break neck speed. Fights, journeys and challenges are skimmed past and various character dramas are almost sorted out within seconds. There are also some strange choices with how certain plot points unfold, for example when Iruma passes out when storing a beast in his pocket dimension. Let me re-enact it to show what I mean.

Iruma: I will store the beast in my pocket dimension.

Sofia: (as he is storing it) the beast can drain your mana, it's risky

Iruma: na its fine (proceeds to pass out for a few days)

It's not terrible but feels rushed. I get that there's allot of story to cover in 12 episodes but it can feel quite jarring.

Characters: 7

I like the characters. Iruma is your typical heart of gold isekai MC, nothing too out of the ordinary. As for the fmcs they're quite entertaining. Sofia definitely sticks out as the most interesting one tho. She appears to be the main heroine and is quite a break from the usual main girl mould. She is a stoic and loyal warrior type as opposed to the usual innocent, kind-hearted heroine we usually get. She has a mysterious background and was cold to iruma at first due it but he is able to break her shell and heal her scars. I just wish we could find out more about her past and how she came to be that way.

Music/sound: 6

No real thoughts in it. Average to good sound design and a somewhat forgettable intro and ending.

Visuals: 6

Average art-style and retrained animation. There were quite a few powerpoint slide sections and skips at a few intervals. The only good fight scene we got was the battle in episode 12 which was serviceable but not the best.

Overall I had fun watching this one and honestly feel it needs a second season to conclude the story as it felt very abruptly finished in the last episode. The pacing was also rushed which could be jarring but if you want something to binge in a night this ones for you. Not too complex and relaxing to watch.

Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time Rating: 5/10 Well, to be honest, *Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time* is just... okay. It’s one of those shows that's neither great nor terrible—it just exists. It falls right into that big pile of typical isekai fantasy where the overpowered MC does out-of-this-world stuff, builds a harem without really trying, and everyone praises him for every little thing he invents. If you’ve seen even a handful of isekai anime, you already know the entire playbook here. The story had promise at the start. The idea of using alchemy to build a new life and create things that didn’t existin that world could’ve been really interesting. But sadly, the show never really delivers on that potential. It ends up being super repetitive: the MC finds something, makes some "modern-world" invention, impresses the locals, gets requested to make *even more*, and then occasionally meets a girl who is either a client or a future love interest. That’s basically the entire formula, rinse and repeat.

Story & Characters

There’s barely any meaningful plot development. It’s more like a collection of loosely connected “MC does cool thing” episodes rather than a coherent story. The MC is likeable enough but has zero real struggles, and the side characters are mostly just there to admire him or flirt a little. There’s no real character growth, no meaningful relationships, and no serious threats to make things exciting.

If you’re expecting an engaging narrative with tension or deep emotional beats, yeah, you’re not gonna find that here.

Animation & Visuals

Animation-wise, it’s just okay. Nothing impressive, but nothing offensively bad either. Some scenes look decent, some look cheap, but it never reaches that "wow" moment you’d hope for in fantasy shows. It gets the job done but that’s about it. Same with the art style—serviceable, but completely forgettable.

My Watching Experience

Honestly, this show is perfect if you have absolutely nothing better to watch and just want something to pass the time. It's easy to digest, requires zero brain power, and gives you a few mildly cute moments here and there.

But if you’re looking for something significant, meaningful, or genuinely *good*, please don’t waste your time here. It’s really not worth it if you expect anything more than low-effort comfort watching.

It’s just your standard isekai fare:

- OP MC? ✅

- Girls throwing themselves at him? ✅

- Out-of-this-world inventions? ✅

- Almost zero meaningful conflict? ✅

Seen it all before—and probably done better elsewhere.

Why I Gave It a 5/10

- +1 for having a somewhat cozy atmosphere

- +1 for the alchemy premise (even if it’s underused)

- +1 for being easy, casual watch

- -1 for repetitive storytelling

- -1 for average-to-weak animation

- -1 for lack of character depth and development

Final Thoughts

If you’re in the mood for *absolutely no-pressure background anime* while you're eating or cleaning, it’ll do the job fine. But if you’re hoping for something memorable, clever, or exciting—you’re better off looking elsewhere.

A solid 5/10, simply because it’s "just there." Nothing terrible, nothing great.

“Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time” is what happens when you put 90% of the most cliche and unoriginal isekai tropes in one place. Have You ever wondered what would happen if You’d take the alchemy premise from “Fullmetal Alchemist” and turn it into a generic, devoid of originality and bland isekai? Yeah, me neither, but someone actually did. And this is the result of that. Before we start I would like to explain something. I will be talking about “plot” and “story”. Many people use those terms interchangeably. I’m not one of those people, so to make sure everyone is on the same page… Iuse the definitions for “plot” and “story” as Lisa Cron describes them:

“What happens in the story is the PLOT, the surface events.”

“STORY is about how the things that happen affect someone in pursuit of a difficult goal, and how that person changes internally as a result”.

So the story… yeah… there is hardly any. A story about a reincarnation in another world isn’t something new or original enough to carry the whole show. The hero doesn’t change during those 12 episodes in any meaningful way. He starts out as a nice guy and ends as a nice guy, just with a harem and power. Mentally he doesn't even flinch. He doesn’t get any moral crisis or even doubts about himself or his methods. Nothing.

And because this is an isekai, our “special” hero is a master of everything he touches. Despite choosing a crafting job he soon becomes not only an amazing crafter but also a powerful mage and a warrior. Because having an MC with actual flaws and lacking in some aspects would make for a way better story that this and that would require a writer with some skill.

Now… lately I’m very critical of anime because they are mostly repetitive. For every one that has an original idea there are probably a dozen that are the same shit with different paint. This one… is the latter. That said, there are 2 ideas in it that I like.

1. The whole sending the MC — Takumi — a year before his death by summoning.

2. The fact that #1 is actually a part of a greater plan, a shitty one but still a plan.

Those two ideas are solid and intertwined with each other. The problem? The IQ over 9000 goddess decides to not tell Takumi that he might be the key to setting things right. Not once in the time she saw how he grows more powerful, gets powerful allies and practically becomes a prime material for a hero, she thought “Maybe I should tell him that shit will hit the fan soon. That will give him time to prepare and save more people”. No. That would be too logical for an isekai. She just shoves him into the world, gives him a blessing that makes it easier for him in the beginning and just leaves him. Yeah, great plan. No way this could go south if for example, oh I don’t know, Takumi turned out to be a power hungry sociopath or a serial killer with a boner for cutting women's throats and mutilating their abdominal region during the night (If you get that reference you are awesome). But of course he didn’t, because this is a lazy isekai and our MC has to be a paragon of virtue and the world has to bend over backwards for him. To be fair, because of her laziness in telling Takumi that he is her chosen hero, I thought that the goddess might end up a subversive villain and in reality she is the BBEG (Big Bad Evil Guy… gal). But that was quickly snuffed out by showing how the summoned heroes are mostly garbage beings.

Listen. The fact that the hero of a story is a paragon of virtue isn’t a bad thing. It’s actually good and in 99% of cases the correct way of writing a hero. But this isekai has a glaring plot hole. Takumi’s summoning was an accident. He wasn’t summoned because of his heroic traits or anything. It was basically a system error, because he shouldn't even be on the list of potential heroes. That gives a metric buttload of space to create a hero that could be flawed in more ways than one, or a hero who starts of as a self-centered asshole and grows into a paragon of virtue or even someone who was a villain in his previous life and wants to change but has problems letting go of his old methods. In this case that would make a more interesting story. But we get the same old, flavourless, white bread protagonist that gets a harem we always get. Ehh… wasted potential.

The plot starts out as almost a fantasy slice of life. Takumi doesn't get any kind of overarching plot and the running joke is that he is either blackmailed or indebted to powerful people who demand favours from him. That actually gets old pretty fast. As soon as he creates something from his old world that improves the quality of life, he is “convinced” to make more of it for sale. The first two times it’s actually funny, but after the second time I was over this gag. Good thing it only happens… I think 4 times (but I could be wrong) overall. When he’s not busy creating new things his hobby is probably getting more slave girls to serve him. Yes, as a tradition in shitty isekai, slavery is legal and encouraged, and as a second part of this tradition, the place our hero resides is “special” by treating slaves more like contract workers than slaves with no right. So of course Takumi takes advantage of this system and gets not one, not two, but three slave girls that way. They, of course, become friends almost immediately and start treating each other as a sort of family, because having an isekai with complex relationships with different power dynamics would require a writer with writing skill above highschool. Hmm… I started to wonder if it is a problem with the writer's skill or maybe the consensus is that viewers wouldn't be interested in an isekai that uses logic, psychology and sociology to convey delicate matters… maybe I’m overthinking it.

At the end of episode 10 the plot actually sets up something good. The inevitability of a conflict between Takumi and his coterie and the summoned asshol… I mean heroes. This is actually good. Finally, after 9 episodes of not so good world building and team bonding, we get a promise of something that could actually matter and have consequences. Oh my sweet summer child, I thought the same and the level of bullshit you get as a substitute for it is immeasurable. Yes, Takumi encounters the heroes but they aren’t a threat to him at all. He dispatches them in mere seconds with no trouble at all. Why? From this point on, no matter what they’ll do they will never be any sort of lingering threat to Takumi. From villainy and something that could be dangerous and a source of stakes, they are relegated to almost comic relief. All because of one scene. They are just kids who can’t defeat anyone except people who are weaker than they are. A much more dramatic way of presenting them would be either let them win or, even better, to have a draw in a fight between them and Takumi. That way they would retain their threat factor and Takumi would have a proper motivation to actually train and become stronger. Nope. The hero kicks their asses in less than 10 seconds. Eff off with that.

To be honest there is nothing in this show that I would call original, or even executed in a non banal way. Everything and I do mean EVERYTHING that’s in this show You already saw in (I hope) much better shows. This anime had potencial. Despite having an OP AF MC it could still work, You just have to give him challenges where his power either means nothing (like some psychological problems) or is actually a detriment (for example the more power he gets the more people are after him). Granted it is said, when he gets more power and influence, that more and more people will be after him, but those people turn out to be incompetent and weak. Not once we see someone who would pose a threat to him, or his coterie, in any way, shape or form. Now, if someone from his team would die and it would be presented as his fault, that would mean something. It would give stakes to the plot and story. But because nothing of consequence ever happens this show is just… bland, pointless and, at the end of the day, meaningless.

I'm not rating this negatively because it's a "generic Isekai." Those are fine, and honestly, most are actually enjoyable. I'm rating this anime negatively because the main plot of the series starts around 9 episodes in. Now, from looking over the synopsis alone, I can tell they likely skipped some content, but in a story where you want to see the main premise of time travel work, the most interesting parts ends before it really starts. What makes this Isekai unique is that the hero was summoned by a Goddess years before a kingdom summoned its heroes. This is because that Kingdom has less than great intentions. Thisleaves the anime to dedicate most of its episodes to world-building and saving heroines. The heroines are more fleshed-out than some other Isekai anime, as they have attempts at more complex backstories, but their personalities drop down when they join Takumi.

Takumi is probably the main reason you would watch this anime, that and if you really like the concept of alchemy magic, it's fun to watch him create modern inventions in this world, but they just don't do that much with the cool concepts they DO have.

If I can compliment some parts, I would say the character design of the characters are nice, they're just "good" to look at, Takumi's design is pretty refreshing actually.

It wasn't the worst thing I've ever watched, but it's hard to suggest something that starts the main story at the end of the series, while the previous world-building could have honestly been done in like 6 episodes. They keep teasing the hero summoning throughout the anime also, so when you're left with no conclusion, there isn't really any point watching this compared to reading it.

I imagine for Light Novel readers, this was a lot more enjoyable, and I'm sure the Light Novel is fine, but I would suggest just reading this series if it interests you.

An isekai where there are 3 heroes summoned to another world by a kingdom using forbidden magic, and another soul that was mistakenly caught by the summon, which is granted special treatment by the Goddess (for a plot reason), as he shouldn't have been there in the first place. Do you like a 40 years old man that gets isekaied and acts like a 14 y old boy all shy and cannot act normal? Do you like having your MC having his status page at the end of episode 1 looking like the encyclopedia of skills in that world? Do you like random time skips that sometimes don'tmake sense, so much time passing and barely nothing changing, even though before in a short time the MC was able to revolutionize the world?

Do you like unexplained stuff that you just take it like it is because why bother?

Do you like moments that should have been serious but are too dumb to take them seriously, but the anime really tries for you to take them seriously?

Do you like hyped moments that underdeliver by a long shot?

Do you like dumb and immature decisions?

Do you like repetitive magic spells like that world has maximum 2 spells for each element?

Do you like... meh whatever... I could go on, but why bother, you get the idea.

If you answered to most of those questions with yes, then go for it my man, get your knowledge of these types of animes, or maybe your fill... but me? I'm tired man... I'm tired... Thrash anime with basic plot that cannot even deliver the basics nicely enough for me to enjoy them... You would have guessed that by now, after years of companies making these kind of animes, they would finally know how to deliver at least the basics such that everyone can enjoy them, especially those that already watched something similar, which is not hard because there are always like 3+ animes like this every season... but I guess I'm wrong on that one.

I'll just get to the marking as at this point, I feel like I'm just starting to repeat myself when it comes to reviews for thrash isekais, especially the bad ones...

Story: 5 -- There's an overall story that pretty much will have its climax happen in season 2 (which let's be real for a second, has a damn near 0 change of getting it). The pacing is bad, the interactions are a lot like a really new, beginner actor's improv, too much sentimentality thrown and developed in the span of 5 blinks and 2 breaths, and conflicts that get resolved like I was solving my problems when I was 10, basically using my imagination of a 10 years old boy... Things that looked interesting, just made me ask questions to torment myself as none will be answered... basically a thrash isekai with underdeveloped plot, bad pacing and big plot holes/lines...

Art: 6 -- Art is pretty bad... most fights, if not all, are just 1 picture being shown for 1 second and then moving to another picture for 1 second, or if they actually show some movement in the fight, that means the fight will be done in a few seconds... In rest, ig it's basic thrash isekai art... one thing I would note is that the nose of the MC from the sides is sometimes looking hella weird to me.

Music: 7 -- Don't have any complains, but nothing memorable as well.

Characters: 5 -- As some would say, age is just a number, and God damn this anime really shows that. 40 years old acting like a bashful 12 y old, 80 y old having the personality of 3 sentences and one thought, jokes that are making me ???, especially when I see them repeating, interactions that are like between people that never communicated before with others and are full of anxiety, and the sentimental ones are just cringe to me with the way they are done and developed (if you can even say they are developed).

Enjoyment: 5 -- The more it went, the harder it was to watch, and the climaxes to conflicts were just letting me down with the presentation and build up...

Overall: 5

Right now it has 6.60 from 31.395 votes Ranked #6492 Popularity #2599 Members 78,291.

I cannot really recommend this anime to anyone besides those that have time to lose. There are better thrash isekais that can actually deliver on their basic plot lines and make them somewhat enjoyable. With this one, I only felt like I was hoping they could deliver on the next conflict and make it all worthwhile, until they wouldn't and suddenly all the time I spent watching until that moment felt like lost time and lowered my expectations even more... which were not met anyway with the next conflict. It just began to feel like a drag. Save your time and search for something better, or do whatever you want, I ain't your mom.

If you like Isekai, or rather if you like trash Isekai (which lets face it is most isekai these days) then you will most likely like this. If you don't like Isekai, or you want something with a great plot, great characters, a serious drama driven anime, then this is not for you, because this is trash isekai through and through. This series knows what it is, it doesn't take itself seriously, it just wants to have fun This series doesn't seek to do anything new, but that doesn't mean it's an Isekai paint-by-numbers, what it does it does well, it uses standard tropes, but its not copyingother works wholesale, it does its own thing without seeking to reinvent the wheel

The pacing of the series is quite quick but it still works and flows well, the plot is there in the background to a degree that it doesn't get in the way of the series just having fun, instead it quietly ticks along to give you a little something extra and give you the sense that events are moving towards some inevitable end point.

MC is accidentally summoned to the world, he's made OP by the goddess to 'make up for it' but also because she has her own hidden reasons, MC rejects the idea of a combat job but intends to pursue crafting and alchemy so he can have a peaceful slow life... and now the stage is set for general isekai trash fun.

MC finds himself in a wood near a village (yes that trope) and saves a villager from harm (yes that trope) he's quickly welcomed into the village and soon learns all he needs, if you think his interactions here are strange, it does get answered later. We also have our first companion join, Maple.

Once we move to the city and are out of the starter area which is the midpoint of episode 2, we start to expand the cast of characters and our companion roster as the MC hires slaves, the system of which seems based on that of Ancient Greece, where they are more like servants than the modern view of slaves. We also get the usual isekai hijinks you would expect from a series of this type, making items from his old world to improve his daily life (I wish there was more of this but it is what it is) going on quests and adventures, and causing a certain level of chaos with what he does.

I'll get into the weeds on some points as there are some things that some people seem to have missed.

The series shows you at the start how skills are learned and progressed, which is a very simple system any gamer would be used to, you level up the skill by using it. It focuses on the MC learning the basics of the world, how to craft and produce materials, and he spends time levelling up, after that it is hardly touched on again mostly because showing you him constantly progressing his skills would be repetitive and boring and take you away from the heart of things, but there are enough scattered breadcrumbs to show he's still learning.

As for the toilets... Yes there is a big focus on toilets, Japan does have a toilet obsession after all, but if you were isekaied into another world and you had some of these abilities, you would quickly make yourself a proper toilet rather than what is essentially a cut-out hole in a plank over a hole in an outhouse leading to your cesspit...

The most realistic isekai's out there are those where the MC seeks to improve their living conditions by recreating 'home comforts' as well as recreating their home cooking and yearning for certain foodstuffs, getting homesick is one of the most grounded things that you can include in an isekai.

Is this the best series out there? No, it's not even trying to be the best. Nor is this the worst series out there.

This is just good trash fun, something you can unwind to and not think too deeply about.

it's entertaining, and that's all its trying to be.

The anime has a weak storyline. The first season serves as an introduction to the actual story. With only twelve episodes, the story wastes a lot of potential. Given all the progress made by our hero, Takumi, the content could easily have been doubled, if not tripled. For this reason, the storyline has no significant highs or lows. At an episodic pace, Takumi literally invents new weapons and armor and acquires skills without any mention of the changes. Another criminally neglected aspect is the lack of romance. Although Takumi is surrounded by attractive women, he seems asexual. This is very unrealistic for an adult manreborn in a new world. In contrast, the antagonists are not averse to physical lust. For me, the anime is neither one thing nor the other. Just as things start to get interesting, the season ends. By the way, the title is slightly confusing. You get the impression that Takumi opens a small store in a town and lives his everyday life there peacefully. However, we don't really find out what the "alchemy" is all about.

This anime was alright, the best part about it would probably be seeing what the main character would come up with and the creative ways he helped the world with his alchemy, but the cliches that were sprinkled in the anime had me bored a lot of time. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind cliches, but when they are so heavily focused on it it gets pretty old after a while and could definitely turn you away from this anime if you don't like that. The characters that accompany the main character were all female and it turned into a harem-esk dynamic between allof them which is way overdone. They became relentlessly positive towards the main character and were very one dimensional because of it.

Characters aside, the world building in this anime is probably it's best quality, it's fun seeing how he helps the world and his dynamic between the goddess and the way it affects the world. Would give 6.5 if I could. I might not watch a second season if it gets one but maybe if it's seems like the anime leans into the world building in the right ways and has an interesting story line. Let me know if anyone reading this has read the manga or light novel, I'm interesting to know your take on it!

Will I Possibly Be The Greatest Alchemist of All Time is the question asked in this cute anime series. The answer is, if your competition is Kinomi Master, then you surely will. I finished both series days apart, both had similar storylines (main character gains powers, uses the said powers for the good of humanity, acquires loyal female friends or slaves, and fights against the forces of evil. Yes, one is isekai and the other is just fantasy, I know that.). The execution of the story, attention to detail and to character development, and how the secondary characters are developed and kept in the loopset these two animes apart and boy, how good is the execution in Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time as opposed to how bad it was on Kinomi Master speaks volumes.

Iruma Takumi is a likeable hero. A 40 years old salaryman in Japan, he is transferred from our world to another world by mistake with three other heroes and cannot return to his time and land, so, the goddess Nolyn gives him special powers, makes him 17 years old (and easy on the eyes, too), and sends him to one year before the other three heroes are to appear with special alchemist’s powers and things develop from there. The story is straightforward. There is no novelty concerning guilds, adventuring, use of magic in daily life, slavery, non-human races’ existence, and pseudo-harem use compared to similar stories. However, at least some of the females in here can be seen as Bond girls, helping the main character while looking pleasing. What makes Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time is the way the main character develops, interacts, has self-doubt, and that he pursues what will be to the society’s benefit even though he is afraid at times. I believe the voice actor for Takumi did a great job as he is always doubtful, unsure, uncertain and it is wonderfully reflected in the great voice-work which sometimes even compensates for the poor quality animation. When you have a good, well-balanced, sympathetic main character and good secondary characters surrounding him, when you place every character carefully to their supposed place in the storyline, then you cannot fail. That’s why this is one great anime. It is good for entertainment, for feeling good, for fun, and for good ideas on friendship and loyalty. That’s why, though it ends on some sort of a cliffhanger, even if isn’t to have a second season, anyone watching it may have fun.

I’d recommend Possibly the Greatest Alchemist of All Time easily. Go watch it and have fun.
