Reviews for Plus-Sized Elf
Back to AnimeMen of culture, we meet again. Cute story. Great service. Memorable characters. The characters are very well-rounded in many ways. With every character filling a certain archetype. The characters react to their newfound dilemma in a realistic and charming way, with a lot of comedy ensuing. The story is unique and adorable. Very fitting for the genre and audience its aiming for. Enjoyable ecchi story. It will be a fantastic experience if you are the target audience, if this is not your thing, then it might not be.In conclusion, a 10/10 phenomenal experience. ELFUDA! <3
(Warning: Might crave potato fries after watching.)
I am a longtime fan of the manga, this show deserved better. The source material is a 10 ,literal kino . However the quality of this production cannot justify more than a 6. Its sad but hopefully Trigger will pick this up for a season 2 and they we can get the anime the people deserve. The issues with this adaptation stem from animation quality and the allocated runtime. Half of the episodes are in a chibi art style and the rest is not well animated in general. Although its not the worst, its nowhere near the quality of the manga. Along with thisthe music is bland. The only positives are that the fat women are fat.
Overall, buy the manga as I have and pray to allah that this gets picked up by another studio. :(
This anime took a standard anime idea "find all the reasons for the cast to take their clothes off" and really made it entertaining and funny. The characters were endearing and at times absurd. They also managed to ride the line of lovable aholes too. I wasn't sure what kind of humor I'd encounter when I started watching it since frequently things with plus sized in the title can nose dive into just straight up bullying to audience, but this anime didn't come off like that to me. It came off more like the creator realized that he could draw all the big boobs hewanted if he just made the ladies big too, and I appreciated that.
If you're looking for a silly, flirty, lulzy time then this anime is for you. If you want something with a little more substance and less focus on exercise and diet, then you might want to look elsewhere.
The popularity of Elves has once again skyrocketed because of shows like Frieren and Delicious in Dungeon and most likely there is once again a popular love for the fantasy genre and maybe that's why such a specific show was made about Thicc elves, or well Fantasy creatures. It is clear that this show has an intended audience, people that like women that are well plussized. Every scene there is some form of 'weight' and so if you dislike that, then this show is not for you. But if you do like that you will most likely like this show. There is no plot really thoughthe idea is interesting. A therapist helping fantasy creatures with their problems that they are facing in our world is a neat idea. Like it would be cool if the show tackled themes like depression, finding a purpose or addiction that would give each episode and fantasy creature more flavour and debt.
Though the show focusus on one aspect being that a fantasy creature (the Elf for example) is overweight and that a diet is needed. Its a simple formula that maximises the amount of scenes with thickness in it. And that is totally allright because the anime does not try to achieve anything really. They only want to please their core audience with thicc Elves for example.
One aspect of the show that I felt like could be done better was that they wanted to give tips on dieting advise or exercise. Yet the scenes when this happens are neither engaging or feel really usefull. "How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?" Is an anime that handled exercising and dieting way better and more informative more likely due too the author of the series thinking exercise is really important (and it is). With this show its more of an afterthought.
I myself do not have a strong opinion on this show but thats because I am not a part of the intended audience nor do I have any feelings too this show. I will complete the show because the 12 minute episode format is convenient and I always like to finish my shows.
Eventually it is a "Ok" show that does not really take risks, but just gives you thicc elves.
We all know what we're here for, a variety of big, beautiful monster women and a bunch of excuses for seeing them topless. If that's all you need, then I'd recommend it. However... It just didn't feel as good as it could have been. Art and animation are fine, tbh I think the worst of it is in the OP when they're all dancing together. The ending stills look gorgeous, and I wish they upped the budget a bit more for some of the cakey shots in the show. We get a little time with every girl, but that's also kind of a weakness. Each girl getsso little time, particularly the dragon girl, so it's a bit of a let down in that regard. "A mile wide and an inch deep" as some would say.
I think this really could have shined if we had the main guy putting his hands on the women more often, since his job as some kind of health/dieting expert. Personally, I think this could have been stronger if it focused on one or two women more, but that's my personal taste.
Minor gripe: I would have liked a little more variety in the women's nipples, like color, areola size, etc. In my opinion, if you're going to bother to include partial nudity it should look good! There's a wide variety of nipples in the world!
It's a 5/10 for me because it really could be great, and I really wanted some good, horny animation with monstrous BBWs.
My final verdict is: If you wanna watch chubby women get their clothes blown off or ripped up, go for it, but us perverts deserve so much more, and I hope we get it one day.
I really wanted to like this anime. I love the source material, as well as the characters. But this anime is what a lot of us in this scene expected: low-budget drivel that doesn't really do the source justice. I'm glad that it has an adaptation to begin with, but I'd be lying if I was totally satisfied. The animation is, let's face it: quite poor, but strangely enough, I feel it is at its worst in the OP and ED. The actual show is serviceable, despite wonky faces now and then. I will say that it is extremely faithful to the source, though. Whatyou see is what you get, but that in addition to its quality means that this adaptation really doesn't bring anything new to the table.
I've read the original manga (all 8+2 currently available in English!), and I follow the author's art. I recognize that the art is... well, let's say niche. My kind of niche, though, so I obviously enjoyed that part of it.
I'm here for that sweet sweet WG, that jiggle, those thighs and especially those tummies, big or just chubby. If you're also here for that, then just go watch it already. If you're not... well, I'll say that this is still extremely funny, but bad official subs do hold it back. If there are fansubs, I'm sure they're better, but in typical HIDIVE fashion, they've played them way, way too loose. My Japanese probably doesn't even qualify as "beginner level", but even I can tell these subs just aren't accurate. It's not 2005, guys! We know things about Japanese culture! You don't need to "dumb it down" for us! (ex. E11, uses "valley girl" instead of "gyaru")
TL;DR: If this is your kind of anime, you probably have already watched it all the way through. The rest of you may not be as impressed-- but I can recommend the manga any day of the week.
To be thick is to live. Are you a person who enjoys thick women, because if you are then you will find enjoyment in this anime. The story. find a cute fantasy woman who has become choppy, and now human will help her. The character design is very nice, pretty, sexy, but sadly there are some really cheap parts where they look bad, I think the dancing scene in the intro always takes me out of this world of existence. Enjoyed this show, I read the manga and fought it looked sexy. anime looks a bit cheaper but still in good fun.
i honestly was annoyed with this series. it was badly executed for what it was supposed to be. to put simply, the anime's directing and focus is "thick ladies!" and "look! uncensored massive titties, bare butts, and bursting clothes!" with the health & exercise education feeling very background and minor like, "here's some education... i guess...", then downplay it with comedy after it is given, plus the bad fat anatomy seems like they went off of a wood posing model with a ball stomach (pretty obvious the artists are not used to drawing obese people). meanwhile, the manga was focused heavily on education of diets, bodymaintenance, & exercises, as well as debunking some diet trends with the fan service feeling very passive. i honestly recommend people just reading the manga.
well, since this anime doesn't try to hide anything, I will get straight to the point. If you are an Anime fun who also happens to like chubby, plus-sized, overweight women then this is obviously for you. As I belong to this specific type of audience I feel obligated to write this review for all the fellow men of culture who love BBW type of content. This is the first anime (as far as I know) that caters to us! I haven't read the manga nor I'm into Ecchi genre in general. I'm here solely because it tries to target the niche sub-genre I'm interestedin, so keep that in mind.
The plot here is almost non existent. This anime has zero intention for any kind of world building or a background explanation about how or why. It just brings a bunch of overweight humanoid girls that for whatever reason have gained weight and strive to lose it. They all came from another world but Except of the main girl (blond elf) they just appear in front of the MC out of nowhere. So don't expect any kind of character development or plot. This show only cares about the fun-servise.
Comedy mostly derives from the goofy personalities of these girls. Each girl have her own quirks and issues and the generic/blatant Mc is your typical guy that is just there to help them and nothing more. At least up to ep4 where i'm currently.
There is a lot of nudity and the show doesn't try to hold back on the Ecchi aspect. All the girls act super weird and obnoxious and the show use any chance it gets to reveal their fat bodies in every possible way.
Unfortunately the art style and animation are mediocre. Episodes are 10 min long so I guess the budget on this is tight the least.
I wouldn't say there is anything worth watching here for the regular folks. Its a ridiculous fun-serving comedy for the specific type of audience it wants to target.
I want to add that this would be better if it was straight up h*ntai. I don't see why it shouldn't. They basically didn't care for anything else besides funservice so what's the point?
The term "degenerate" gets bandied about quite a bit, to the point that it's more a term of endearment than abuse. But every now and then you hit a show that gives the term a slightly uneasy resonance. I imagine the history of waifus has gone something like this: * Come and watch our show, we've got pretty girls! * Oh, is that getting dull? Here, we'll throw in some catgirls! Weren't expecting that eh? * Oh, the catgirls are normie-tier now? How about... monster girls! * Okay, you've seen monster girls, but... not *fat* ones, yeah? Here you go! And on it goes. One can only imagine what the nextevolution will be. Whatever it is though... I'm here for it. We're on this ride together, gentlemen.
People have described this show as a sort of Walmart Monster Musume, and they're not entirely wrong. It's a show about cute chubby metahuman girls doing cute things, and sometimes cutely attempting to exercise. It's as ridiculous as it sounds, and it's a joy to watch.
The story, such as it is, is predictable and limited in scope. Given that the episodes are short (half-length), this is unsurprising, but the show is fun enough that you likely won't mind. I found the girls charming and the comedy funny, but you'll have to watch an episode to see if it's your thing or not.
The visuals are clearly done on a limited budget, but what they lack in resources, they make up for in enthusiasm. (Do yourself a favor and track down an uncensored version.) The sound is great, and the ED slaps.
I really enjoyed this show, it's a solid trash anime that satisfyingly delivers on its unique premise. It's a series of shorts, so by all means, give it a few minutes to see if it's your jam.
P.S. Kuroeda Krew represent
Simply and objectively not good. Man do I love fat bitches, but this “show” isn’t it at all. Animation can be criticized in many ways either by comparing it to others, which simply isn’t fair. Or in the case of “plus sized elf” breaking rules of animation itself. Characters seem to gain and lose weight depending on the angle, losing that little bit of depth to the designs. (Funny how I’m so talking about ass and tits here) And character proportions also seem to change, like hands or head size. Nothing seems to be kept a constant. Another rule of animation itself is that things need to beanimated, now, I understand budgets and workers have to contribute labour to a series. But, some shots can go on for a solid 5-10 seconds with only lips moving with a camera panning. And a character doing one action until next cut. (Most noticeable in the episode where they pick up that dwarf girl but is still VERY much a problem in other episodes. It simply makes the show feel like a slide show.
Lastly Storytelling.
I’ll keep it very real, it’s not a bad premise. It’s actually hilarious and why I started watching this show in the first place. Elf goes to earth, eats fries, get obese and cannot return home, gets help from a dietician. Peak comedy.
But it really falls flat in the department of keeping me engaged, interested, and glued to the screen itself. Episodes just having the excuse to have them get naked. Episodes establish a premise for 7 minutes for the episode to only have 12 minutes total. It isn’t that good.
Now lastly understand this show is borderline hentai, and I assume it was made for a 2am night when the roommate is out elsewhere. But an honest and down to earth opinion, it’s lacking of what could have been.
“Plus-Sized Elf” is what happens when you want to create an amalgamation of “Monster Musume” and “Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru?”. So a lot of people say that the manga is actually good and this show doesn’t do it justice. I actually hope that is the case because this show is the embodiment of repetition. I get that a comedy shows love running jokes but this one isn’t even that funny — the elf losses and gains weight repeatedly. It was funny the first time, in the first episode. I don’t need to have it (I think it was) 3 more times. Despite having an interesting ideafor a story the plot is… yeah… I’ll get to that.
Before we start I would like to explain something. I will be talking about “plot” and “story”. Many people use those terms interchangeably. I’m not one of those people, so to make sure everyone is on the same page…
I use the definitions for “plot” and “story” as Lisa Cron describes them:
“What happens in the story is the PLOT, the surface events.”
“STORY is about how the things that happen affect someone in pursuit of a difficult goal, and how that person changes internally as a result”.
I’m gonna start with this: there is a lot, and I do mean A LOT of fan service in this show. Well… actually it’s not even fan service, it’s straight up nudity. I don’t think there is a single episode where at least one character doesn’t show her breast. As a boobman myself I usually see no problem with that. This time my problem is that it’s so in your face and heavy handed that it’s not even tasteful. Just keep that in mind before watching.
The story itself is actually pretty interesting and new (at least I haven’t seen many shows that tackle this subject in an urban fantasy setting) — a group of fantasy creatures struggle with weight because of their lifestyle and abundance of processed food here in our world. On top of that there is an in-world reason, other than health, that they might want to keep their weight in check. You have to have the same weight when You come into our world as You do when you exit it or the magical portal won’t work. It’s actually pretty clever and I liked it. It’s simple, easy to understand and actually creates stakes. Not very high but still. The problem is that none of the cast really expresses the need to go back home so those stakes are weaker than expected. Shame. This show could use some sort of tension to balance the over the top comedy and exhibitionism.
The characters themselves are, in contrast to their weight, flat. They all have one semi unique trait that is cosplaying as personality but that’s pretty much it. We don’t know much about anyone. We don’t know what most of them do for a living, we don’t know their hobbies, ambitions or goals other than losing weight. We do get a little (and I do mean very little) more information on our female lead — Elfuda (funny thing: MAL lists her as Erufuda, but the subs I had used “Elfuda” as her name so I will too) — but it’s nothing groundbreaking or meaningful for the greater picture.
Because this show is done as a sitcom it uses the ancient, unwritten rule of sitcoms — at the end of the episode everything reverts to status quo. It does help to set up episodes when you don’t have to worry about consequences of the previous one but it also makes the whole show seem a bit pointless. There is nothing wrong with episodic format. Done properly it can be an amazing way to tell your story and plot (just check out “Cheers” or “Married with children”). This show… is not exactly it. The episodes are fine for what they are — a dumb comedy with some naked thick fantasy creatures — but most plots aren't very original and the characters aren't interesting or fleshed out (pun not intended) enough to do the heavy lifting.
I guess the fact that the episodes last only for about 12 minutes is a saving grace. If you’re not binge watching it (like me) you can consume it in small dosages and not feel drained. It’s not a total travesty. The idea alone is worth at least investigating and some characters, despite being flat, are rather interesting. Elfuda and Kuroeda actually bounce off each other pretty well and their banter, even if mostly crude, can be entertaining.
If You don’t mind heavy handed writing, not exactly tasteful nudity and cheap jokes I think you can have some fun with this one.
This anime is very transparent with what it is and who it appeals to, if ya like seeing naked chubby girls then you are likely going to enjoy Plus Size Elf. I am one of those people who likes the squishy girlies, so I enjoyed my time with this anime! Its nice to see a series like this that appeals to an almost never explored demographic. But outside of this niche that the anime was obviously made to appeal to, there is not all that much reason for a general audience to watch this. If I'm being more objective, wouldn't call Plus Size Elf ahorribly bad anime by any means but I also wouldn't call it particularly good either. The main structure of the show works well enough. Naoe, a massage therapist, meets various monster girls from another world who happen to have weight issues and he helps them lose that weight (until they inevitably gain it back). Its a fun setup that creates a nice space to play around with exercising different parts of your body and leads to some mildly entertaining banter as well as the expected ecchi of seeing the girls work out. There is also a surprising amount of genuinely useful workout tips that you could apply in real life which is cool (I will not remember any of them xP). The main problem is that once the monster girls of the week's introductions haven happened, they all kinda get thrown to the side and are rarely seen. There are so many girls in this show and it feels like only three ever get substantial attention. ;/ The other girls are all pretty one note and forgettable. They only ever show up for a little bit in the background, never really doing anything outside of their introduction. But the girls we actually get focus on can be pretty entertaining and are pretty likeable for what they are
Another thing about this anime that you will instantly notice is the animation quality. Its pretty okay to subpar in every episode, which I'm honestly not surprised by. I don't imagine an adaptation like this would get much funding sadly. ;c Because of that, much of the animation can be jarring and come off as weirdly uncanny and creepy, like the dance in the OP. Other times the animation just feels kinda empty and utilitarian. Outside of the animation, the visual style is reminiscent of the manga's and sometimes does a surprisingly good job capturing the spirit of the original manga, but more often than not the art lacks that soft feel of line work and a general sense of cohesion the manga had that made it so initially appealing. A nice bit is that the colors in this anime are nice and vibrant which fits the vibe of this very non serious ecchi comedy show well!
As an anime who's main appeal to me and presumably most viewers is the big boobies and big tummy jiggling fan service nonsense, how does the ecchi hold up? It's pretty mediocre unfortunately. There are lotsa scenes of the girls bursting out of their clothes or through some contrived nonsense their shirts tear right at the boob which at a surface level would be sexy right? Supporting this is the full uncensored nudity in this anime, which is awesome, but the anime's more slice of lifey comedy tone doesn't make it feel all that sexy. The monster girls generally don't seem to care about being seen naked which is fine, but it ends up making the anime not feel particularly horny outside of the shallow fact that they are often naked. I don't mind the ecchi not being amazing since I did genuinely enjoy the SoL bits of this anime. That being said, it is nice having some chubby girl fan service for once, its a such a rare thing to see in anime and I'm elated this anime supplies. Its something I've been wishing for forever
Overall, Plus Sized Elf is not worth a watch for the average viewer. But if you enjoy trashy ecchi, bigger girls, or both I think there is definite value here! This is not a complex anime, and the production quality is pretty poor, I wish it was better produced but I found myself enjoying it for what it was. Even outside of my surface level liking of chubby girls, the low stress, dumb fun comedy of this show was enjoyable enough for me to give at least a 5. That being said, my liking fat bitches absolutely made me enjoy this anime more so I'm giving it a 6 xD
You get about what you expect. A comedy about girls from fantasy world isekaing into our world and becoming chubby because of our unhealthy food. The show is a pretty mixed bag in terms of comedy and probably the worst I've seen in regards to animation (obviously low budget with some of it being laughably bad). If you like chubby girls, you'll probably like this show. If not, there is a chance you'll still like it, but it'll more than likely be a pass. Regarding comedy, for every hit of a joke, there is a joke that misses or is just too predictable. Ithink there was one or two that made me laugh, and a few that had me smiling, but the rest were just alright. Honestly it was the animation and off-model visuals that had me laughing more than the intended comedy (occasional lazy eyed faces or questionable animations). But with all that said, as a Certified Chubby Chaser™ and just going into the show knowing full well what it would be, I had a generally good time. I kept teetering on giving a 6 or 7, but kept it at 7 in the end due to the later episodes being consistently enjoyable.
Listen boys and girls, we all know why we're here. Synecdoche with the original manga appealed to a very specific audience and the anime does nothing to change that (In fact the girls are even bigger here!). If Ecchi with very little to no story isn't for you, then you're gonna hate this anime for sure. As someone who's read the original manga, this is a rather faithful adaptation. All of the story beats are applied here in a 12 minute format, and even has a few extra scenes to pad it out a bit. Since it is a rather storyless manga, I didn't come inexpecting a full on 24 minute series that expands on the background of characters. However for some, I can see this being a turn off because it could give some much needed context to make you care more about it's universe.
Unfortunately as a few people here has said, the anime's biggest issue is it's animation quality. Some shots look very off (The dopey looking rotoscope dancing the characters do at the intro is the most notable example), and when some characters move it's a very stiff back and forth motion. It's very obviously a low budget anime, which is fine, but when you compare the detail of the original manga and switch over to this, then it's jarring. The music is also very generic as well
6.5/10
+ Faithful to the original source with a few extra scenes
+ Appeals to a very specific audience very well
? Doesn't add any major extra story beats to expand on the universe
- Animation quality is all over the place and dopey
- Music just isn't good
If you have a lot of free time, you might consider watching this anime for entertainment, but don't expect much. The plot is simple: fantastic creatures such as elves, ogres, cyclops and werewolves live in a modern world, facing problems such as obesity and laziness. Tomoatsu Naoe tries to help these girls lose weight and adopt a healthy lifestyle, although his efforts seem to be futile. The quality of the animation leaves something to be desired, the comedy focuses on the characters' overweight, and the excessive use of ecchi makes it feel monotonous. Although the cast is diverse and the characters are not particularly memorable, they are not unlikeable, and Naoe could even be considered a role model for nutrition and exercise.
Would heavily suggest reading the manga. The anime was a long time coming, for what it is it doesn't do the series justice. Animation: it gets really bad. It's on the nose with following the manga, a bit too on the nose with how stiff shots can get. Panels where you expect it to be animated a certain way are completely still. The characters are off model a lot. The inconsistencies are really jarring, especially on Dark Elf. She's supposed to be flat chested but her cup size is ever changing with each episode. I had mixed feelings on a few voices for the characters, especiallyfor Satyr. I was not expecting her voice to be that deep. Wished it was higher. Same with Dragon. The rest sound good.
The story is simple enough as this is mainly ecchi, but they messed up the order of the chapters with one episode.
I still watched this all the way through as a cope (lol) from waiting so long, got slight enjoyment from seeing these characters (rarely) come to life. Seeing this honestly made me feel bad for Synedoche, he already had to deal with switching publishers and his anime adaptation is mediocre, he can't catch a break.
Somehow, the studio managed to ruin peak fiction, they need to hand the series over to Passione. Not to dumb it down too much, but we know that they're capable of drawing fat chicks and monster girls, the only two requirements for the series. This studio can't. Look at this compared to Interspecies Reviewers and weep for what could have been. Again: the biggest and most insurmountable issue is that it looks BAD, truly fucking terrible, DeviantArt / MS Paint tier, get to the buff lady in episode 3 and you'll see why I dropped it. When the whole point of a series is to stare atanime babes, the babes have to look good or there won't be a series. Period.
Just go read the manga, I'll be crying over here if you need me.
I love this show. The source material is one of my all-time favorite mangas. I feel like the show captures the playfulness and skit like nature of the manga. The only issue I have is a nit-pick, and that is that the consistency of the ariolas is all over the place. I like when an anime dosen't use the same size ariolas for every character but the same character should always have the same areolas and nipples in every episode/scene. Other than that I think this is a great monster of the week style show with lovable characters that all shine in their own ways.
not sure about the show its like watching a bad porn but like some aspects like their training detail stuff the methods the protagonist uses in progress of weight reduction but its like watching ecchi stuff without getting a bonner. The show has a unique take but fails to deliver like manga some suggested, not super sure about the future of this anime but hopes are high if it gets a second season. Majority believe the characters require more development and details completely lacked on that stuff, the art system is okay but can do more justice to the characters. If you have not read manga maybe youwill enjoy a bit
