Season 2 starts with 2 episodes of recap with random backstory flashbacks which were unknown. Random changes to the ending of Season 1. The animation quality has degraded like no one's business. (I usually don't concern about this. But even for me, the dropoff was unimaginable.) Even reading the manga art would feel more joyful than watching this third grade animation. The plot seems to have gotten haywire with no coherence about what they are trying to depict. The pace of Season 1 which kept intrigued is lost. Too many characters in too few episodes appearing and acting relevant. Unless some miracle happens, this season could go down as theworst second season of all time.

Characters have changed tones. Background score is pathetic. Interrupts/drowns the dialog flow.

Animation - 2/10

Screenplay - 2/10

Action/Adventure - 3/10

Direction - 3/10

Overall rating - 2.5 (rounded up to 3 with optimism/hope for better future episodes)

Demon Lord, Retry! R - Wait a minute, this isn't the Maou-sama, Retry! that we remember from time past...what's going on? In my own thinking, there is kind of an unwritten rule when it comes to shows and their continuations: the further development of the story plot and its characters into something that we are already familiar with, and no tampering of anything that is outside of its picture. Yet, in the current landscape of the AniManga industry, we have shows like The Promised Neverland diverging from its story to become one of the most infamous examples of a rushed plot. And in this season, thiscan be debated if novelist Kurone Kanzaki's Maou-sama, Retry! a.k.a Demon Lord, Retry!'s series is intended to be as such, but it's quite the confusion that, ultimately, to loyal fans like myself who've really enjoyed Season 1 despite its low-budget aesthetics, it feels like a slap in the face for that dissonance alone.

For starters, if you're thinking that Retry! R is continuing the adaptation of the LN as Season 2, then I'm sorry to disappoint you that it is wedged in a weird spot that can be hard to get around. Despite the sequel adapting Volumes 3 to 5 of the LN, it's the decision to follow the "revamped" manga under the "Retry! R" name that just adds to the confusion to let people who've watched Season 1 think that they're watching something else instead of what is supposed to be THE continuation of the original source material. In actuality, it's just the differential marketing for the manga adaptation of the LN under a different name, but the story actually remains colloqually the exact same.

And boy, what a convoluted story does the sequel bring to the audience, thinking that Season 1 was produced on the cheap and that the sequel can improve things further. You definitely can feel what the sequel brought: its "revamped" Midas touch, and it's just all sorts of messed up. There's just nothing redeemable about this whatsoever, in any shape or form.

God, where do I start with the bad outings of Retry! R? Demon Lord Hakuto Kunai now transforms from a badass bamboo lord to an oversized, fat, plump lord that nothing about him resembles his character to that of Season 1. The cute and adorable Aku is nowhere to be found, and in her place stands Luna Elegant dealing with the intricacies of kingdom politics with being on-screen more with the shenanigans of Hakuto still dealing with his troubles. To add to the matter, Hakuto's NPC summons become more prevalent, but their usefulness only matters towards the plot that needs immediate intervention with clear threats to be dealt with. And this plot, it's all over the place with no recourse nor explanation that would only serve as the basis for knowledge wars against people who understand and people who don't (and I fall under the latter). The saying of "too many cooks spoil the broth" definitely rears its ugly head here, and too many "notable" characters are there for God knows why they're there in the first place, for the bigger of the plot picture that's like a puzzle that has numerous pieces to link together but could not do so for the life of thee.

I'm even as baffled to say that despite being a bigger studio than the one that came before it, the combined efforts of Season 1 handled by Ekachi Epilka and director Hiroshi Kimura is leaps and bounds better than what 3rd-rate director Kazuomi Koga and studio Gekkou have given us for these 3 months. What a difference 5 years makes, but for the very worst, and why the decision to remake parts of Season 1 with updated visuals is beyond me. And don't get me started on the music, because it's comical-like circus BGM was the constant white noise that we're all questioning: whose idea was it to add such constraining MIDI-level music on top of just about every scene used that is mind-numbingly jarring? Not even the OST is worth noting, let alone being forgettable and perfectly skippable.

What a sequel Maou-sama, Retry! R a.k.a Demon Lord, Retry! R is, and has become, and will be a permanent reality that we cannot unsee anymore. Stick to the original source materials, LN or manga-wise, and please stay at least an Isekai portal away from this horrid mess of a byproduct of a decent and enjoyable prequel.

Season 2 of the anime was disappointing. The artwork and animation is one of the worst ever, shall I say, "cartoonish"?. The new VA don't really seem enthused about the series either. I really enjoyed season one and was surprised at how far the second season had fallen. The animation is like what you would see on American cartoons, with no detail and only basic movements. I am not sure how and why Gekkou Productions were commissioned to do this anime but all of their productions have been pretty bad. With only several titles under their name, it is hoped that they either improve theirstandards or get out of the business.

DO NOT WATCH EPISODES 1 AND 2 ! Please, PLEASE, I beg you. If you want to enjoy this season at all. Please skip episodes one and two. It is true that Demon Lord, Retry! R is done by a completely different animation studio and has mostly different voice actors from the original Demon Lord, Retry. It is also true that that Demon Lord, Retry! R adapts the manga, where the original season of Demon Lord Retry adapted the novel, two noticeably different interpretations of the story. However these differences do not make Demon Lord, Retry! R unwatchable. It is instead the first and second episodes ofDemon Lord, Retry! R that have caused most viewers to drop Demon Lord, Retry! R and completely give up on the series all together.

While the rest of Demon Lord, Retry! R falls far short of the first season, the first two episodes are significantly worse in quality and writing than the rest of the season. It feels as if the first two episodes were a job forced onto a group of interns that had no knowledge of the series and no love for the characters, not to mention a complete lack of artistic skill or talent. Put simply the first two episodes of Demon Lord, Retry! R are nothing more than recaps of some points of the first season. But instead of properly recapping what happened before, they make a mockery of the beloved first season by redoing the previous scenes in childish lazy and unskilled artwork and blatantly changing the dialogue from the first season to parody versions that change the tone of main characters and besmirch their core values and tenants.

Trust me, please just start from episode 3 and pretend the first two do not exist. For fans or knowledgeable viewers, skipping episodes 1 and 2 will preserve your happy memories of the first season, manga, or novel, and you will already have all the knowledge you need to continue onward. For those with no knowledge of the first season or source material, you do not need the recap episodes because the plotline of the second season starts on an entirely different continent and all necessary information on the characters or situation will be filled in during the following episodes in flashbacks. For season two, episodes 3 onward can stand on their own. Please watch them and enjoy the season for what it is. Thank you.

I genuinely thought it was impossible for this anime to decline further, but here we are. I really enjoyed the first season, especially as someone new to anime back then. But now, it’s not even worth its salt. The plot feels totally inconsistent, with no setup or meaningful progression. Scenes are tossed in without impact or purpose, leaving you wondering why they’re even there. The intensity it attempts to build is flat, and the music choices only make it worse; bland and completely mismatched. The opening theme initially caught my attention, but it just emphasized a glaring issue: all the characters now look nearly identical, just withdifferent hairstyles. And the worst offense? They revamped the MILF, who once brought a mature, kinda grounded vibe... but now foundationally looks like all the younger girls. The maturity she had in season one now only shows through the voice acting. That’s a hard minus 5 points in my book.

The anime gets almost everything wrong, Overlord would be a prime example of what this anime reaches for.

I wouldn’t recommend this anime to anyone unless you’re truly out of options. It’s become the kind of series you watch when there’s absolutely nothing else left on your list.

This anime went from incredible to incredibly bad with the second season. Not only are the episodes dry, the art style is now atrocious and all of the characters are ruined. The first two episodes are predominantly reminders of the original season and the third and fourth episodes are so boring and uninspired that I started pressing the right arrow key to get through them faster. The art style is different enough from the first season that some of the characters are basically unrecognizable and I thought they pulled an Isekai Nonbiri Nouka by showing off the future cast at the beginning of the seasonbut no, they are just that different from the original style. Not only that, but rather than being a refined art style, everything looks like a cheap representation of what the second season could have been had the producers not been playing whatever PG-13 totally-not-a-dating-sim-RPG that resulted in the bathing, unnamed background characters having better designs than any of the main cast.

I really wish I could like this season of the anime because I loved the first one and I was really hyped for this, but it is just so bad that I cannot even bring myself to watch another minute of it.

I gave the original season a 7/10, which was slightly higher than the average score; It was complete and utter trash, with some of the worst art and animation I've seen in anime, although overall, the season was held-up by just how trash it was. "So bad it's good" comes to mind. This season is actually worse, because it simply has no real redeeming qualities. After 7 episodes it's hard to even describe what's happening, the story seems to keep jumping around all over the place without any idea as to what it's actually trying to convey. It really doesn't help that the first 2 episodesare mostly recapping season 1 and have some weird pre-reincarnation explanation thing going on that goes nowhere and don't really end up explaining anything.

The art and animation are extremely "generic isekai", which means it doesn't have that same comedic trashiness the original series did either. A lot of the characters have also undergone severe redesigns here, losing any charm or "waifu-ness" the originals had. Even the "girly-boy" (referred to as such in S1) has been turned into an actual girl here (she/her pronouns used).

The only thing even remotely holding this up so far, is that the writing is incredibly tongue in cheek and doesn't take itself seriously, which is thankfully a holdover from the original series and more props to the original manga/LN writer.

Currently, this show is between a score of 4 or 5 for me, sitting on the fence between mediocrity and being plain bad. I'll keep watching out of morbid curiosity, but I wouldn't recommend this to most.

The first few episodes of the new Maou-Sama Retry leave a lot to be desired. I had just finished the original season before I started this one. The recap in the first few episodes was terrible with the change in animation style and a more childish feel. After watching both of the first two episodes I nearly dropped it thinking it was complete trash. However I stuck with it and it got much better. While the animation style is different, once I was invested in the story. I hardly noticed it. Overall the recap is terrible and I can't say I approve of the animationstyle however, the story is still very entertaining.

Maou-sama, Retry! R Alright, buckle up because I binged both seasons of Maou-sama, Retry! Boy, do I have thoughts. Let’s get the obvious out of the way: this anime feels like Overlord went on a shopping spree at the dollar store. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just... familiar. Like, familiar. The whole "overpowered dude stuck in a game-like world" trope is plastered all over it. But hey, let’s talk about the one shining light in this otherwise dim hallway—the main character. Despite being ridiculously overpowered, he’s got this amusing charm in how he tries to stay “in character.” Picture a guy who’s a walking apocalypse butstill worries about his role-playing skills. It’s like watching someone balance world domination and a D&D session simultaneously. His deadpan humor and how he handles situations are the main reasons I stuck around.

Now, let’s address the harem and supporting cast. If you’ve seen any fantasy anime in the last decade, you already know these characters. They’re as predictable as the sunrise. Cute girls? Check. Loyal sidekicks? Check. Villains with no real presence? Double check. We’re two seasons deep, and we still don’t know who the big bad is supposed to be. It’s like a mystery novel where they forgot to write the ending.

Pacing-wise, watching this series in one go was like trying to follow a drunk tour guide. The plot is there... somewhere... but good luck finding it. It’s like they’re hiding the story behind a curtain labeled “Maybe Next Season.”

So, should you watch it? if you’ve got nothing else on your plate and you’re in the mood for something that doesn’t take itself too seriously, go for it. It’s got some fun, light moments, but don’t expect it to blow your mind. This isn’t Attack on Titan—it’s more like Attack on Time Filler.

Season 2? Yeah, it felt like a giant detour. It’s like they had some plot points to hit but decided to take the scenic route. There’s hope it picks up in the next season, but until then, it’s more of a casual watch. Grab some popcorn, turn off your brain, and enjoy the ride for what it is—an okay anime with some laughs along the way.

Haven't seen the original? By all means, try this one - it's got some fun & unusual story elements you might enjoy. Watched the original? Yeah, I'd give this one a pass. They made changes to the art style and the main character that kinda wrecked it. The original had a grittier art style and the main character was really the whole reason the show had that "mob" feeling. The new one has a softer art style, which ok, maybe you can manage. But they KILLED the main character. Ugh. From the stupid expressions on his face to the line delivery, it's feltlike a doofus in a suit was just playing with a bunch of kids. I had hoped to see some new content and was kinda excited for this, so I gave it a shot - but honestly, I wanted to cry after the first scene and I just couldn't get into it afterward.

Season 1 of this show was amazing. The pacing was great, the character design was amazing, and the dialogue was good. But season 2 is a completely different show. The pacing is atrocious, the dialogue is on the level of pre-teen short stories. Gone are the days of dialogue that doesnt hold your hand like a 3 year old. The animation is atrocious. Character design went from 8 or 9/10 to a hard 3/10. Tron is mega ruined. White sage is ruined. Killer Queen, extra ruined. Main character, both kunai and zero, big downgrade. Luna is pretty ruined, but not as bad as the others. Yuis ruined. Aku...well, Aku is always cute. So only one not ruined is Aku.

Half the episodes so far are filler backstory that they needlessly changed stuff in the story.

Overall, I wish they had just left it at S1 instead of ruining the entire image of the show and didnt pollute my memories of a great anime with this trash.

The first season had one thing going for it and they took it away from us. The animation was bad and the story mid but the girls used to be extremely cute. There was so many of them and it carried the first season extremely hard because otherwise this is a super generic story. The changes to the characters/redesigns are offensively bad. Most are way less sexualized, they also lost a lot of cute features and honestly a lot of them are straight up unrecognizable, like who tf are these people, where did the waifus go?! This is just sad, no reason to watch this anymoreas it's main/only appeal is gone, butcherd. I cannot comprehend how something like this could happen.

This anime was fun to watch until season 2. The animation is basically Akumaru Jump manga; it's lazy and contains little movement. The characters look like they're from a cheap visual novel and the voices are far worse, even though most of them have the same voice actors. The dialogue is insulting with how much it explains the interactions that don't need explaining. I really enjoyed the first season, and i've been watching this season for a while now but it refuses to be less cringey. I'm sorry to bash whoever is working on this anime, but I feel more sorry for the viewers whowere expecting an equally enjoyable season 2.

Been waiting years for possible season two. Now there is NO season 2 in Ba Sing Se! (ATLA reference) They replaced most of the seiyuu. Our main heroine Luna somehow magically transformed into Louise De La Valiére and many more character designs were massacred starting with the quite handsome Hakuto Kunai to become ugly self insert main character. The animation is worse than if any average drawing fan would make. Clearly amateur and VERY BAD. Even High Guardian Spice did better. First two episodes were a cheap recap of the masterpiece of season 2. The rest is still pain to watch.

After wishing for a 2nd Season for so long it finally happened! I was hyped once i got the notice.... But it didn't hold on for long... The first 2 Episodes Are filled with Randomnes from the past and a recap (which is different form the first Season aswell). All my Joy was gone, and even the 3 "Maidens" Look completely different and their Characterisitcs(behaviour) are different aswell, they are basicly 3 Whole new Characters. And the scene skipping is huge aswell, it kinda lost all it had on the first season ... sadly. It's sad to see this, if i knew it would turn out like this i woulnd'thave wished for a second season tbh.

It's one of the biggest disappointments in a long time.

Edit: Episode 9 now....

And i can say, it is getting worse and worse by episode....

The scene jumps are like the whole thing now, the Animation got even worse, like they didn't even put any effort in it at all anymore....

There is nothing that tells us it is the 2nd season of an Anime if you watch it AND there is absolutely no story or atleast it is scrumpled like a scribble board with all those back and forth and random scenes....

To be honest? Whoever approved of this shpould be fired ...

It Pains me to watch it, but I hate dropping Animes, but I think I should do it for the better lol.

First season have some charm and looks good for me, but this season beacouse is create by different studio It is total garbage. Characters looks is change on worse, one from they looks so different that I couldn't recognized her, and she lost her awesomeness. Generally everything what has been good in first season has be lost, maybe is possible watch all episodes, but if you liked first season then I don't recommend. Better is re-watch first season and stay on that. History is also presented worse then before, example of flashbacks and I am very disappointed. I watch all only because I thinks itwill be better and maybe it is a little less badly, but still it is very bad.

I never really wrote a review before. When I heard this anime got a second season, I rewatch the entire first season because I remember I quite enjoy the first season. However the first episode of first season start with backstory of mc before got isekai'd, and somehow that mc design is different than the first season. Not to mention that i don't know the reason why the entire episode character are getting censored while there is only one person that aren't censored. It is weird but I can tolerate since it's a first episode but the recap continue until second episode, they changed a lot.Like a lot of things, the plot, the character, the dialogue, and even the va. I am not saying that the first season was good, but the second season wasn't satisfying enough even with really low bar

and about the anime style. Somehow they degrades from already mid first season. MC now have a lot of goofy faces, female design now getting smoother and unrecognizeable from the first season. and a lot of thing that i want to wrote but i am tired of talking about this aniem

It's a mixed bag that leans more on the side of popcorn entertainment if you’re willing to overlook some glaring flaws. For starters, skip the first two episodes entirely—they’re a poorly done recap of season one and add nothing of value. The drastic shift in art style is initially jarring, with a more cartoonish design that may throw off returning viewers. The original art style's take on female characters in particular is far superior with them having an air of maturity while also having room to be silly. However, once you get accustomed to it, it can be enjoyed (although I never got used tothe MC's white cartoon face in scenes). Their interactions within the setting remain a highlight, and I found myself quite engrossed in the direction the plot was going. While it’s not groundbreaking and lacks the polish of stronger titles in the genre, the show succeeds in delivering casual fun for fans of isekai.

Beneath its cartoonish looks, the series tackles surprisingly “taboo” topics like rape, torture, and murder, setting it apart from fluffier peers in the same space. While this maturity doesn’t elevate it anywhere near to must-watch status, it does add a layer of depth that complements its darker themes. If anything, the show can be darker in season 2 than in season 1. Despite that, the show is best enjoyed as light, popcorn entertainment—perfect for when you want something fun but not overly demanding. Fans of the first season (like myself) will likely appreciate revisiting this world, but it’s not one you’ll find yourself rewatching unless a sequel materializes. Ultimately, Maou-sama, Retry! R delivers a decent continuation, as long as you temper your expectations.

TLDR: If you enjoy overlord-style nation-building with the cast of characters there, then you may enjoy this. Just don't look too deep.

I liked Season 1, I wouldn't watch Season 2 if I didn't, I wanted more of the same and to some extent I got it, but it wasn't exactly the same. First as everyone else points out, there is a drop in the animation quality, second, Luna gets more focus in the series (I didn't mind this) however almost all of the old cast from Season 1 have been left behind besides Luna. I feel the series also mocked me as we got Yukikaze best 'girl' back for all of 5 seconds and then was quickly ditched. For me the biggest issue is the absolutely terrible pacing, what was the point of wasting time recapping the past events in the first episode when it then blasts its way through everything else, jumping from place to place, as it rushes to the end

Honestly I don't expect brilliance from this series, I watch it for the ridiculous over the top nature it has, the MC's sass, and the dynamics that exists between him and the other supporting characters,

Season 1 had so much, Season 2 in comparison is just lacking, it's still enjoyable, but it's definitely fallen in quality and has way more issues now.

Unfathomably poor. The story has no direction and everything feels random. Fight scenes are below mediocre. Character designs from s1 were butchered thoroughly. There was never any explanation for the power system to begin with and this season made it worse. The flashbacks were more confusing than anything and added nothing to the overall story. What a steaming pile of garbage. The world has potential to be pretty watchable but goodness, it's lik everything is wrong with this. First two episodes were bad recaps. Then on, the anime never fixates on a single topic, moving around introducing characters who are never explored in depth. Thereare some wierd fan service moments. Really not worth anyone's time.
