Reviews for Mr. Villain's Day Off
Back to AnimeAre you tired at your unloved job? Do you want to take a vacation? Or maybe you also want to relax watching anime? Then Mr. Villain's Day Off will be a real silver mine for you, and if you also like pandas, it will even become a gold mine. The Slice of Life genre has been changing the concept from anime to anime for years, but the essence of the genre remains the same - to relax the viewer and take his mind off the murders, fights and other elements show's on which you need to focus and turn on your brain. There are workssuch as Tanaka-kun, which are full of everyday routine, and in their center of attention are the most ordinary schoolchildren, and around the "plot" reigns carefree school atmosphere and various funny situations. However, some authors have picked up on a detail that makes Slice of Life even more comedic, as was the case with Great Teacher Onizuka. The detail lies in the conflicting image of a bully or villain and everyday life with the same funny situations. So starting in 2018, a manga started appearing on the Pixiv website with the title Mr. Villain's Day Off and its writer was Yuu Morikawa, a young mangaka who loves quiet stories, such as his work The Night and Noon's Delicious Time about two different people living together.
Back to Mr. Villain's Day Off, it's pointless to write about the plot, it's not important. The protagonist is Warumono-san and he is a general of the evil forces that seeks to destroy all mankind and take over the Earth. But not today! After all, the forces of evil also have days off, and even the most badass villain needs a rest. The show itself is a "situation comedy", a show consisting of a large number of short films unrelated to each other in terms of plot and meaning. It is a set of cute stories that make Warumono-san gradually realize the beauty of human society, its love and happiness, and the villain himself becomes comfortable with it. In addition, the villain's heart is enslaved by...PANDA PANDA PANDA PANDA. Watching this show be ready to die from the cuteness of pandas, the abundance of which is many times more than the number of animals on Discovery. Even the absolute evil will melt at the sight of pandas, and this is a fact. The humor here is quite the opposite, so if you expect the same humor as in the famous Gokushufudou manga, you won't find it here, because Mr. Villain's is just a nice show with a calm atmosphere and cute pandas.
In addition to Warumono-san and the pandas themselves, Yuu Morikawa gradually introduces us to three types of secondary characters. These are villains like Warumono, such as the jolly Rooney or the powerful Trigger with a talking name. There are also people called rangers, referring to the Power Rangers series, and these guys live a peaceful life but do not forget to fight evil, their names are based on the color of the suit Red, Blue, Black, Pink and two little Green. Also in each episode there are ordinary people, thanks to the influence of which Warumono becomes more human.
The duo of two studios Shin-Ei and SynergySP turned out to be quite good, which is to be expected. The director of the anime adaptation is Yoshinori Odaka, a man who started out directing some episodes of Naruto and Teacher Onizuka and ended up with the abysmal work on Bem and the Mr. Osomatsu parody. Let's consider it a redemption of sorts, though it doesn't take much talent to create an adaptation of a show of this format.
The music in the adaptation is fairly calm. Ivudot's opening Yūho splash screen is too quiet, unlike Glasgow's Kyūsoku Jūden closing splash screen, as if, lol, they were really confused. It's also notable that the opening splash screen starts right at the beginning of the episode, which is consistent with the content of multiple short films in one episode.
I'll finish my review with an interesting fact about pandas: The panda's main occupation is eating. This process takes about 12 hours each day. If, while eating, you want to watch a quiet show and just relax without getting into the plot, I'll re-recommend Mr. Villain's Day Off.
This was one of my favorite anime of its season if not my most favorite. Every week I looked forward to watching the next episode and I'm really sad that it's finally come to an end. The characters are engaging and I liked the way by making the theme of the series everyone's day off, we got to see elements of the typical Power Rangers/Magical Superheroes shows that we don't get to see as much of in the proper genre. I also liked that the series focused on one of the main villains of their universe because it also broadened what the audience got tosee and experience.
The series was mostly a comedy but it did have some heartfelt and dramatic moments at times. It kept everything in balance and didn't get boring or stale. I liked that because all the characters were a little weird that makes them feel believable. I would definitely watch more of this anime if we get future seasons.
If you like the slice of life episodes when you watch super power shows or you like slice of life with a bit of fantasy, then you'll like this anime. It was a genuinely fun and funny watch.
If you enjoyed animes such as the way of the househusband, this anime is right up your ally. If you watched power rangers, this is one of the baddies who fights against them, and this is how he enjoys his time away from work. There is no fights, there is no development, other than his admiration for cute pandas and his kindness to others. Its meant to be a collections of shorts that is entertaining. If you want something to watch casually, this is a good show to watch, its not going to leave you with cliffhangers, so watch whenver, sit back and enjoye!
Mr. Villain's Day Off - Even villains do need their days off of rest time as well. Slice-of-life comedy series are easy to do, but when you have Iyashikei series (like Yuru Camp) doing the same, it becomes hard to separate the truth from fiction. And in the Winter season, boy, do I have the perfect couch potato show for you: mangaka Yuu Morikawa's Kyuujitsu no Warumono-san a.k.a Mr. Villain's Day Off. Do you desire rest from the world's never-ending troubles of work? Well then, how about the work of good vs. evil? These two things never ending clashing that well, and this is the problem forMr. Villain, Warumono-san. All day and night long, he's the General of an evil organization with their headquarters in space, thwarting the peace of the everyday life, only to be stopped by the everyday heroes of a pseudo–Super Sentai a.k.a Power Rangers-style hero vs. villain plotline. However, all Warumono wants is a life of calm and collectedness that he's able to to do the things he really wants to do...like seeing animals in a zoo, which captures his attention and starts his obsession on these cute furry black-and-white creatures we call pandas. And not even the everyday Rangers can stop Warumono on his evil deeds...from the passing of time seeking pandas, going to convenience stores to hunt for panda-like food, to fully resting on his well-deserved day off.
I have to give applauds to VA Shintarou Asanuma for nailing Warumono's character, even if the voice doesn't really fit his devilish thematics. For a character who is constantly on and off about good and evil, Warumono may look like a pure villain character from the outset, but his heart is ever that pure, understanding and ironic like a mockingbird. Being impressed about the life of Earthlings and threatened by the cuddliness of the pandas at the same time, Warumono experiences Nirvana like he's never experienced anything of the sort before, and vows to get revenge...by going for more panda-licious treats, all while letting his trusty assistant Rooney do all of the backend work. The Rangers too are like your typical everyday people, from the caring Akatsuki Red who easily loses his sense of direction, to the standards of Green being the twins of Mugi and Sora, Shinonome Pink serving as the titular girl within the all-boys group, as well as Yoiyami Black, the founder of the Rangers who is mysteriously unseen most of the time.
Everything else about the anime gets its simple job done: the usual collab of Shin-Ei Animation and SynergySP coming to produce the show with minimal but glowing effort, and if anything exemplifies the Iyashikei vibe, look no further than the music itself, with its serene OST and the theme songs (though I see a debate there). Ivudot's OP is just that: a calm walk/stroll in the park against the quietness of night life, and Glasgow's ED a contrast to a cheerful song with hope for the future. People complained that the former's song doesn't sound like an actual opening, but whatever, it perfectly complements the feeling of the anime and its source material.
At the end of the day, whether there are heroes or villains, the desire to one day have a rest is a monumental task, and Kyuujitsu no Warumono-san a.k.a Mr. Villain's Day off exemplifies that fact so well. Now, if you please excuse me, I want to go to the zoo and see pandas now to be fantasized in their fluffyness and aloof characters, chilling the life away in a chip without a heck care in the world.
"Oh? Sit back and enjoy the sight of pandas?" That sounds good, like a chill pill.
Ever feel like you want a day off school or work (or both if you’re lucky)? Mr. Villain’s Day Off tells the story of an alien general who seems to always get time off work (def lucky). The unnamed protagonist is living his best life relaxing at home, exploring the city, and visiting the zoo to stare at pandas all day—seriously, in one episode, he just stands there for hours waiting for a panda to turn around so he can see what color its tail is, and I love it. The plot itself doesn’t matter; like with Spy x Family, I wouldn’t mind if the alien’sscheme against humanity never comes to fruition. It’s the slice-of-life bits that make this anime what it is: scaring off and/or bonding with little kids, escaping social interactions “with the grace of a shooting star,” eating ice cream in winter, overall winter stuff constantly reminding you that no matter how tough life gets, at least you’re not outside.
Even if the protagonist spends most of his time outside work (i.e., not planning humanity’s demise), Earth still has its protectors. A bunch of barely functional, color-coded rangers are tasked with fighting the main character, who seems to exclusively encounter them on his days off. Although it’d be easy to write off each ranger as a trope, their bubbly design and fun personalities make them great additions to the cast nonetheless. I’m looking forward to more of their interactions, especially with each other as rangers! Red in particular is iconic, getting lost in his own city and encountering Mr. Villain the most. His voice actor’s performance also depicts him as the main hero, if this were a different type of anime.
Meanwhile, Mr. Villain’s low, droning voice is a bit of a drab and the main thing I dislike about the anime. I get that it’s probably meant to have a soothing effect and sound different from other characters, since this guy is, after all, a villainous alien. But it just sounds out of place in an otherwise fluffy anime packed with cute and refreshing moments. Other series of this genre that I watched recently, like My New Boss is Goofy and Cool Doji Danshi, have more upbeat main characters. Maybe it’s an unfair comparison, especially since Mr. Villain is meant to be a different type of protagonist, but three episodes in and the voice acting still isn’t really vibing. At least the aesthetic makes up for it. :)
I recommend this anime if you want a chill slice-of-life for the winter season. ^^
This is one of the anime which will go un notice but it has more potential then what it is Story - whithout spoiler it got one of the unique story where demon long is on vacation , spending his sweet time watch panda . The tings goes arround with hero and his army is funny. Believe me it got more then what it looks . I just gave it try and it kept hold of me throughout the episode Animation- It got everything what it required . Its bit sharp and smooth colour and backgroung Potentional - Its funny to watch him as he meethero's and dont want to fight them since its his off day . But more funny thing is how he deals with them .
Rating - 7/10
its good anime but due to its poster it looks like slice of anime . I hope it gets the audience who really want to watch some good funny anime
The show is basically what the title says it is: it's about the villain, but on his day off. We never even learn his actual name, he's just Mr. Villain or The General just to show you that this guy really is the top tier baddest of the bad, head of his evil organization (which itself is called "The Evil Organization), except he's actually a pretty nice guy who doesn't seem to get worked up about much of anything, unless you break his cardinal rule... never interrupt his day off. The fact that this came out in the same season as Time for Torture, Princesscould have easily made one show or the other feel redundant, since they both have a similar premise of "the villains are actually pretty chill", but the fact that this has such a different approach makes the two shows feel like an excellent complement to each other. Where Time for Torture is very wacky and slapsticky, this show is more gently relaxing. The basic premise is very funny, sure, and there's a lot of good-natured humor, but the tone is more slow elegiac bliss, occasionally dipping into a bit of melancholy.
The usual episode sees Mr. Villain just going about his day, finding some aspect of earth culture that he ends up enjoying, and the message always seems to be the importance of finding joy in the little things. There aren't any huge driving questions or big plot twists, it's more like checking in with him each week and seeing what he's up to. While it's not quite as ensemble-focused as some Slice of Life type shows (in the sense that there's only one episode not specifically focused on Mr. Villain, whereas some shows usually bounce around their cast), the characters around him are all fun additions to the mix and they all generally have something deeper going on under the surface. They really know how to get you to care and of all the characters who aren't the protagonist a pair of trees ended up being the ones I got the most invested in, which should be a testament to how good the characterization is.
The animation is perhaps a bit stiffer and cheaper than some of the other SoL shows that I like, but the art style is still very pleasant and it's definitely helped along by good character designs. What it might lack in the technical departments, it definitely makes up for in terms of sheer relaxing appeal and the music and voice acting both contribute to that comfortable vibe. They've definitely hit on something good here, so hopefully it gets renewed for a second season.
*TL;DR available. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (CAUTION: Lots of I and Me statements below. I believe personal opinion is an extremely important topic to touch on during reviews, but nonetheless, you have been warned.) I get it. Working is tiring. Jobs are tiring. To work is to die. Planning the mass extinction of the human race as an occupation is definitely bound to take a toll, and I doubt that a villainous organization secretly planning to wipe out all of humanity from Earth has a healthy work environment. Villains are people, they need breaks too. Which is why villains turn to pandas, ice cream bars, and steamed buns for comfort ontheir days off. Just like you and me.
And that is what makes this anime so laughably plain. Why would I watch a twelve episode show about me?
Kyuujitsu no Warumono-san (or simply "Mr. Villain's Day Off") is a slice-of-life about, you guessed it, a villain on his day off. I was originally drawn to this concept because most animes that belong to this genre are about high schoolers doing high school things, and I didn't want another show about high schoolers doing high school things. What's the fun in that? But this... a show about a bad guy...? Who is only bad for the sake of his paycheck...? Who hates his job but is also relatively passionate for the cause that he strives for...? "Count me in," I thought with much enthusiasm. (SPOILER: most of that enthusiasm has long since dissipated.)
This show is REPETITIVE. All caps, would be double-underlined and bolded if MAL allowed it in reviews. The quips were cute at first, big bad guy is actually an introvert who likes pandas and ice cream. However, jokes usually don't stay interesting when they're recycled for the next episode. And the next. And the next. And so on. Nothing ever happens. Nothing much really happens in slice-of-life shows, but it's not like other slice-of-life shows that at least show character development throughout each episode, building and building until the viewers get to see a rewarding (or, at the very least, comforting) payoff for spending time with the characters. Instead, this show just reuses the same premise for each episode, and only ever letting its cast grow somewhere during the last three episodes. You'll also be quick to notice that each episode is formatted exactly like this: "Guy is an evil villain paid to be an evil villain. But guy is different when he isn't being paid to be an evil villain. When he isn't an evil villain, he does normal people stuff." And sometimes, the show features background characters that nobody gives a shit about to accompany the plotline that nobody gives a shit about. Hooray!
There are no other redeeming qualities for this show, either. Art style was teetering on the ledge between bad and acceptable, animation was nothing special, and I don't even remember what I thought about the soundtrack.
So, what about the three episodes of character development at the end? Turns out, those episodes are even more uneventful than the episodes that repeat the same panda jokes over and over. The backstories are boring, and it's apparent that the writers really tried to evoke emotion out of me with these episodes, but it's a bit hard to sympathize with characters that the writers gave nothing for me to connect with, and the backstory that we got to see wasn't even the backstory of the main character, the one character that everyone might be able to relate to. It was about the rangers. The people who appear once every sometimes for 5 minutes during each sometime they appear in. Backstory wasn't unique in the slightest either. The only thing that kept me going was my adamancy against dropping shows.
My whole point is: slice-of-lives have to at least be either unique or relatable to be engaging. And this slice-of-life made the one relatively relatable character a demon overlord. I am not a demon overlord.
(TL;DR: Nonexistent storyline, soulless little husks of characters, and bland animation. If this anime was a seasoning, it would be flour.)
This is a really light-hearted and sweet anime adaptation of a parody of sentai, shounen, and even shoujo works to a degree, with a delightful cast, phenomenal voice acting, lovely art and music, and overall a very funny and sweet feel to it. Each episode just makes you relax and laugh. It's all around a very relatable story about work-life balance, worker protections, friendship, and found family. It plays delightfully with the never-ending nature of the genres it's parodying, with the, "I'll get you next time" nature of it. Underneath the humor and warmth is a lovely layer of of intricate and fun world-building. Thecharacter designs are really fun, too, whether it's Shogun's two character models, the cute and supportive little alien who holds up his phone, his various other subordinates, or the different Rangers and other humans who make up the cast. Shogun himself is such a fun and amusing character, and it's fun to see him explore Earth and its various curiosities.
Overall, it's a great addition to the manga (this started as a webcomic on twitter/pixiv, and was later published as a manga through Square Enix), with phenomenal art. Not all of the cuteness makes it into the anime, but what they did do is outstanding. A lot is expanded, and Shogun is just so funny and sweet, and his interactions with all the cast members are lovely. Almost everything he does is relatable if you've ever worked a 9-5 or minimum wage job, focusing in on minute details and appreciating the little things in life.
If you like superhero stories told from the perspective of the villain, (e.g., Megamind, Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy, Venom), but with a warm tone, this might be your thing. And if you like the anime, Morikawa-sensei's manga is beautiful and worth picking up.
There's still material for a second season and the manga is ongoing, so here's hoping it gets one!

How this anime feels is the first sip of coffee in the morning, hearing the trees rustle on a spring day, hearing the laughter of close friends. Or to put it more plainly, this anime is a warm, heartfelt, ironically human show that is an standup example of its genre (as a slice of life). This show is very self-aware and knows what it wants to do, then executes it well. Throughout the anime I found myself yearning for more character development of each side character, not because they were boring but because from a few seconds on screen, the anime made me want to getto know them. The main character has a clear and distinctive personality. This show had a couple of tropes (mainly with it's personality types) which usually annoys me, but it toed the line the right amount that I ended up finding the tropes endearing. That being said, the tropes are completely minimal as from my experience, this is a pretty unique show. I don't know how common the slice of life aspects are, but the premise is fun and gives a well executed show even more life.
My primary concerns going into this show we're that I would get bored of all the panda content, but actually about 4 episodes in I completely forgot that concern as I was propelled onwards by the engaging and endearing storytelling.
I'm a sucker for character-led stories, human moments, and soft, happy vibes. If that sounds good to you, then I highly recommend this show!
i'll say this much - it was a pretty unique story. but it still was an overall "fine" anime for me. i really enjoyed some of the asmr-like episodes where there won't be any dialogues and it was v soothing to watch. some episodes are also v heart & will definitely have u awww. I think the strong point of this anike was definitely the very vibrant & colourful animation. it was really aesthetic and pleasing to the eyes. of course I checked this out for Umehara Yuuichirou - no cookie points for that. he's not the main character's VA but it was still alikely character that I liked a lot.
They say that evil never sleeps, but that's not always true. Whether it's spent sleeping, eating ice cream, or watching pandas at the zoo, even villains trying to take over the Earth need some time off from all of that. That sentiment is best demonstrated in the anime "Mr. Villain's Day Off", the subject of today's review. I didn't watch it back when it was airing, but I had been hearing about it quite a bit; thus, I eventually decided to give it a watch. If there's one thing I can take away from this anime besides the whole "needing to take some time off"thing, it's that pandas are cute, although that's something I already knew.
The premise of Mr. Villain's Day Off, or "Kyuujitsu no Warumono-san" in Japanese, is pretty self-explanatory. The titular Mr. Villain is a general for an evil organization plotting to exterminate humanity and conquer the Earth in the name of their home planet (which I don't remember if it was even given a name), fighting against a group of Rangers who aim to protect the Earth. (Yes, Rangers as in Power Rangers.) However, most of the anime doesn't focus on these battles between the Rangers and the organization; instead, it is a slice-of-life focusing on the general's time off of work and how he spends it. A common way for him to spend his days off of work is using his annual pass to the local zoo and watching his favorite animals there: pandas. In addition, we sometimes get to see his interactions with other characters whether at work or on his days off, including those with the Rangers.
As you can see, it's the kind of anime that puts a character who is normally in a villain role into that of a protagonist. That being said, to sort of steal a quote from the movie "Wreck-It Ralph", just because he's a bad guy doesn't mean he's a bad guy. He doesn't want his work and private lives to intermingle, he can't help but take multiple pictures of cute animals at once, and he just wants to spend his precious time off of work relaxing; I'm sure we can all relate to all of that. Plus, he has displayed multiple acts of kindness throughout the series, such as when he helps the Red Ranger - who is his enemy, mind you - find his way on the multiple occasions when he gets lost. I think Red Ranger's nickname for the general, "nice guy from the Evil League", really says it all.
In regards to the other characters....well, it's not like I'm not quite as interested in how they spend their times off as the general, but none of them are really bad characters. Sora and Mugi, a pair of twins who combine together to make the Green Ranger, have a pretty sad backstory, so there's that, at least. There's also Trigger, one of the general's coworkers who has a grudge against him, and I'm still not entirely sure whether he amuses me or annoys me. One character that I wish we got to know more about is Hiroki, a child who the general meets at the zoo. His dream is to become an animal doctor, but his mom tells him that he can't do it; I really wanted to see him show his mother that he really is capable of what he wants to accomplish. Other than these characters, I was, unfortunately, not too invested in any of them.
Right there, in that last sentence, lies the main problem of Mr. Villain's Day Off; it's not incredibly interesting. Sure, it's a slice-of-life anime that is not meant to have a real story to it, but you could at least make the supporting characters more memorable than they already are. Although I wouldn't say I'm a tokusatsu fan, it's also a bit of a disappointment for tokusatsu fans who want to see some cool action scenes between the Rangers and the evil organization and don't really care for what happens inbetween the battles. That being said, if anyone who's like that is able to sit through the entire series, they are rewarded with a full-blown battle scene between the Rangers and the evil organization in the final episode. This battle scene doesn't have spectacular animation, but it's campy enough to be a fun watch regardless.
What I said about the animation for the final episode's battle scene can be said about the animation in the rest of the series, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Shin-Ei Animation and SynergySP worked together to give viewers some solid animation with some solid color design; it's nothing thrilling, but it suits the vibe of the anime very well. Speaking of vibes, I have to mention the opening theme, "Yuuho" by Ivudot; the backing track for this song sounds to me like it could be heard on a lo-fi hip hop playlist, and the vocals are pretty good, too! Oh, and the ending theme, "Kyuusoku Juuden" by GLASGOW, is pretty good, too. Even the voice acting was pretty good, and I especially want to give a special mention to Nao Touyama, who voices a convenience store clerk named Yamano who appears a few times in the series; she does a good job at making her sound enthusiastic!
I may have said some pretty negative things about Mr. Villain's Day Off, but I do think it's on the higher side of average. If you want a nice slice-of-life anime to watch on your day off, you could do much worse than this. At least you'll get to see some cute anime pandas!
A very chill and enjoyable anime with a fun hook. It's not as slapstick comedic as The Way of The House Husband, but it feels like it's in a similar vein of shows. It has some really interesting emotional beats between The General and everyone he encounters which gives everything a really wholesome vibe. It starts off a bit slow which is unfortunate as the first half of the season is basically "pandas are cute" so lets do everything possible with a theme of Pandas. While it was cute for two or three episodes, I think they overdid it in the first half which iswhy I can't give the series a higher rating. I really wish it had a second season in the works, because I was left wanting more of all the characters and their stories.
In a parody of the power rangers we have one of the evil bosses of the invading aliens. He is fierce, he is evil, he is dark, he is... off the clock. The show follows Mr. Evil on his down time. He decided to separate work from leisure so even though he runs into the power rangers from time to time he does go out of his way to avoid confrontations. His favorite pass times include:- - Visiting the pandas in the zoo - Trying different snacks in 7-11 - Watching vids of pandas being cute - Petting fluffy animals- Buying Panda merch
- Panda
- Panda
- Did I mention pandas yet?
The show has the appeal of batman eating a hotdog. It's the cool guy doing everyday things. Because he's an alien it's all new to him so it does dip to the absurd sometimes.
Overall a cute show. I just wish the main cast was introduced from the start instead waiting until the very last three episodes! Yes really, two main members got introduced as the show was ending... It also had a weird habit of jumping around in time a lot. In the span of the show Sakura season, aka spring, came and went three times in a row.
Mr Villain’s day off is a comfy & wholesome experience with beautiful art & character designs that match what we see of their personality & traits throughout the show. The music suits each episode perfectly and the show’s opening music & animation reflects itself in all aspects, that being said the ending featuring an upbeat song didn’t do the same which was only notable because of how great the opening was executed. Each episode was a wholesome & cosy watch that focussed on separating oneself from work & enjoying the little things. Each episode showed us the aforementioned through the main characters fascination with Panda’s &interactions with humanity, creatures & other side characters. There are a few episodes and scenes that get dramatic or emotional but they somehow maintained the established tone & vibes without feeling jarring. That being said there were massive time jumps during two episodes that weren’t reflected in others and I’m guessing that may be a result of the short story format but it was noticeable when every other episode felt linear.
I will say that I binged the show and while that might be the reason I picked up on its repetition & smaller issues, its comfy nature ended up helping me get some sleep. It might be better off not binging the show so that the aforementioned repetitive segments aren't noticeable however watching the main character establish a boundary, develop his appreciation for different aspects of the world & interact with the cast was addicting, so it might be difficult.
After completion I felt like the initial episodes were probably its weakest as it relied too much on the Panda fascination & the reminder that it’s his day off, to the point that it got repetitive & noticeable. The initial episodes don’t feature much of the wonderful side cast and that helped me reach such a conclusion as I personally found that his interactions & impact on them were the cream of the crop but sadly new introductions were sparse and limited to the second half of the season. While the show is about appreciating the little things in life and the aforementioned panda fascination is one of those things, I believe once the show found a balance between the aforementioned, new situations & added other interests it really picked up and highlighted that expression, the shows characters & stories more.
At the end of the day Mr Villain’s interests & personality were fun to watch but it really shined when it came to his interactions & reinforcement of the shows wonderful side characters & exploration of things outside of panda's. I think there are a few things regarding its world that you could be distracted by if you put some thought into it but thankfully the show does a great job at hiding & keeping you focussed on the wholesome & cosy setting.
If you want a fast or actionable Slice of life I don't think Mr Villains day off is for you but if you want a cosy experience with a surprising amount of depth, care & love, it's worth giving it a watch.
Without spoilers my favourite episode was about trees.
An absolute delight! This is one of my favourites this season, even with some of the other amazing titles in competition. The anime itself is both chill and relaxing but with a dash of action and a surprising amount of comedy that actually had the ability to make me laugh, none of those weak jokes or predictable puns that just make me roll my eyes, but instead trying to hide giggles. The characters all looks great, some nice refreshing designs instead of the same generic black haired MC, and almost all the characters are adorable and interesting. I think nearly every single one I've become investedin knowing and seeing more of!
Whether its hijinks getting in the way of him seeing Panda's or his favourite snacks being replaced by something else (horrified gasp) the humour is top tier. I feel like it slightly has the vibes of Saiki K? Just nice little 'short comedic stories' within an episode. Awesome stuff!
[Eng] Kyuujitsu no Warumono-san was certainly more than an anime in my life, it was an experience. I really appreciated the way this anime shows the little beauties in life that we sometimes don't notice because we're busy, it made me remember how worth living every day, even when we have bad days, Warumono is almost a metaphor for that, He was supposed to be a villain and want to destroy Earth and humans, however, he was able to see with his own eyes and in his classic days of rest that life on this planet is much more than that. When I say it was an experienceand even therapy, I'm not kidding, in a certain episode, Warumono was too lazy to get up to get ready for bed and wanted to leave everything for tomorrow, however, when she saw her stuffed panda in the sofa, he heard his voice telling him to go do those things and after that, he gathered strength and did it, it may seem like a silly and funny scene but for me it had a big impact, how many times do we procrastinate on the silliest things and when we see it again, Are we doing this our whole lives? Holding on to something healthy that brings us comfort and strength is what made me rise to life, just like Warumono's little stuffed panda and her unconditional love for these cute animals, even after watching this episode, I felt so good that I was able to sleep early, have a great night's sleep and have the strength to do everything I wanted the next day; Of course, this was my personal experience, but I don't deny the possibility that any of you who watch this anime can also feel good vibes and take that into your lives.
This anime could have just fallen into the limbo of generic and current anime and been a stupid comedy, but it gave us different forms of relationships, whether between individuals with antagonistic positions, with nature or with the supernatural. We had a villain who behaved much more like a hero in his free moments than the rangers themselves, and we only delved into their relationships in the penultimate episode.
The reason I gave this anime a 7 even though it stuck with me is that I would have liked to have seen a much more in-depth look at Warumono's relationship with Earth and the League of Evil, I know the anime was focused on showing just everyday situations from the villain's days off, but if they had done the entire anime in the same style as the last two episodes, where Warumono adopts C-018 and the story of the rangers, I would give it a 10, for sure, as they would have given me much more time to get attached to the characters and give even more value to the everyday moments that unfolded throughout the work, however I don't deny the possibility of this being an adaptation of the anime and the manga having much more of the depth I was looking for.
I really hope they make a second season and if it exists, I want to be able to feel all those good feelings that Kyuujitsu no Warumono-san brought me again.

The main issue with this show is the lack of character development or meaningful interaction with the characters. Rather than say that the characters in this show have any sort of personality, they are more like mere plot points in order to progress with the story; a convenient way to pivot the focus of the main character. If the cast of side characters on both the side of the heroes and on the evil faction were more developed and had more screen time, then this show would actually be pretty good. The problem is that it's mainly Warumono carrying the show with rarely any meaningful interactionwith the rest of the cast, and the fairly simple, boring, and predictable setups for a lot of these scenes don't carry the show enough for it to be this simple.
