Reviews for The Duke of Death and His Maid Season 2
Back to AnimeBocchan Season 2 is fluff of the highest order. It’s a very cute watch with some really good romantic developments and awesome CGI. If you enjoyed the first season it’s a no brainer to watch this one as the story is substantially better and the character relationships have finally taken shape. While I really liked Season 1, it was a little lacking story wise. You had really cute moments between Alice and Bocchan and Cuff and Zain’s relationship, but the quest to cure Bocchan of his curse seemed like a backdrop. In this season, it’s front and center and drives the developments of the season. Everyepisode feels like solid build-up. We finally get some lore about Bocchan’s past and the events that led to him being cursed as well.
There’s a much bigger focus on the supporting cast in this season as well, which I really appreciate since Cuff, Zain, Daleth, Bocchan’s siblings etc are all hilarious and great in their own ways. Of particular note, Cuff and Zain’s development was a joy to witness. Various ships sail over the course of the season, so if you’re a big romance fan you have a lot of good stuff in store.
Like the first season, CGI is amazing. It took me some getting used to in the first season, but I’ve really fallen in love with this art style and can’t imagine it being told in 2D now. It brings so much charm and makes it a unique watch.
I had so much fun watching this this season. Every episode went by in what seemed like moments and I’m really going to miss it. While the story was consistently good throughout, it got even better in the last few episodes and I think season 3 if it comes, will be another step up in terms of quality. Here’s to hoping we get it.
Bocchan S2 gets 9 out of 10.
The Duke of Death who cannot be touched, and can only be tempted by His Maid, is back for Season 2, and is still ongoing for Season 3 next year...I see that the reception is rather low and dwindling (a noticeable 25% drop in member counts, and a staggering 90% in user counts), especially if you didn't like the premiere season that came out back 2 Summers ago in 2021, partly in question towards the choice to go full CGI on this one, courtesy of SMDE a.k.a Shogakukan Music & Digital Entertainment. Well, I'm sorry to say that the naysayers will never be silenced, for 2Summers ahead in time, we finally have Season 2 of "My maid is in love with me, but we STILL cannot touch each other". And since there is enough material from mangaka Koharu Inoue's already completed manga to cover, we're officially now past the halfway mark of the manga, I hope that the anime can continue to adapt the remainder of the story towards the end for a completed adaptation in time to come (but save for Season 3 next year first).
The crux in Season 2 for the character cast is twofold: finding a way to cure Bocchan of his lingering curse that has been there since the beginning, as well as the coming of witches of Cuff and Zain, especially with the latter's magic, which could very well be the key player in helping Bocchan reverse the curse that was put on him, that coincidentally, could help Alice's mother Sharon be awakened as well. And it all hinges on finding the witches that were held responsible for this big affair: the current leader Daleth and her older sister Sade, which aside from being the main antagonist, she's physcially dead, but not soulfully dead yet. Even Sade did not spare her younger sister safely, scarring her for life by being disfigured with a head close to a naked skull, which Daleth uses her magic to hide it by showing her as an undead witch. It's a long way to recovery, for Bocchan, Alice, Cuff and Zain's queries must now be questioned by outsiders who know the witch business fairly well, and their services in full aid for the main cast to reach to the answer they've all been seeking.
Otherwise, everything pretty much stays the same as per Season 1, from the characters to J.C.Staff and SMDE's overall production, these are not likely to change as the seasons gloss along. What's different this time is the new OST for Season 2, and while both the OP and Nasuo's ED songs are good, I still have the emotional attachment from Season 1, so it's just a teeny step down.
There is progress, though this progress is in time to come. So, let's wait until Bocchan's curse can be broken, in Season 3 coming next year, garnering for the end of the story.
Season two has come to a close, and is leaving me wanting more! Continuing from season one, we get a deeper dive into the lives of the main cast. With romantic twists all around, getting to understand why certain characters act the way they do and how their current struggles are actually helping them pull forward and try even harder the next day. Although most of the animation is CGI, it gives the anime even more character and makes it stand out in the crowd. OST gets stuck in my head after episode. Lastly, I'm always hoping for the best for our young duke Viktor for he'salways meticulous about how to approaches everyone around him with a smile and fantastic attitude.
Title: "The Duke of Death and His Maid Season 2: A Stray from the Charming Duo" "The Duke of Death and His Maid" Season 2 brings back the visually captivating world and entertaining characters that fans fell in love with during the first season. However, this season takes an unexpected turn by shifting the spotlight away from the central characters, the Duke of Death and Alice, and exploring other secondary characters. While this may provide depth to the overall narrative, it might leave some viewers disappointed as it deviates from the charming dynamic established in the initial episodes. One of the strengths of Season 1 was thesense of impending resolution, leaving audiences eagerly anticipating the next developments in the Duke's curse and his relationship with Alice. Season 2, however, introduces additional characters and plotlines that feel more like filler than necessary progression. This decision might leave viewers questioning the direction of the series and whether the focus on new elements was truly warranted.
Fortunately, the animation quality in Season 2 remains a strong suit. The visual appeal and unique aesthetic of the series are upheld, contributing to the overall immersive experience. The characters, both old and new, continue to be entertaining, maintaining their charm and adding enjoyable moments to the show.
Despite these positives, the dilution of the core narrative with unnecessary plotlines and secondary characters ultimately impacts the quality of the series. The initial focus on the Duke's curse and his relationship with Alice created a compelling narrative that resonated with fans. The diversion from this central theme in Season 2 may result in a sense of disappointment for those who were invested in the original dynamic.
In conclusion, "The Duke of Death and His Maid" Season 2 maintains its visual appeal and entertaining characters, but the deviation from the central storyline and the addition of unnecessary elements may leave some viewers feeling that the season falls short of the expectations set by its predecessor.
They are back at it again fellas, back to making one of the sweetest cutest "don't judge a book by its cover" anime of all time! This season was a lot more focused on working with what was built on season 1 and less plot development, which is great! Everything season 1 introduced either got used or developed, if season 3 closes out the plot threads that season 1 opened and season 2 refreshed then this anime is a 10/10 when it comes to overall plot pacing Honestly I am not even sure what to say after this, if you liked season 1 you'll like season 2, ifyou loved season 1 you'll love season 2, if you hated season 1 you'll hate season 2.
The CGI's beauty grows on you, but if you watched S1 then you know that, as for animation mistakes, I didnt notice anything too jaring, just a few inconsistences here and there, nothing major.
As for the characters, this show does an amazing job of keeping the plot bouncing between a few core characters, we get some extras here and there on this season but you don't even need to memorize their names and get a whole read on their personality, its great.
Such a good show, if you're a 12 year old who only watches anime for big boobies please watch S1 and S2 so you can turn into a normal human
9/10
First of all maybe you would like it but i didn't.season 2 depends on what type of tings you like to watch.season 1 was very good and watching the maid and Duke's relationship was really cute. Some background characters with their own story. It was cute and good to watch. But season 2 felt like it ran out of ideas. It was Basically a season to do side characters development.Rather than that it was same shit as season 1 between Duke and the maid playing and making naughty jokes which becomes boring.we have seen enough bruh. The other thing I didn't like about the Duke characteris he is so damn pussy hiding inside his maid's skirt all time. His brother has more guts straight going to the witch leader to ask about the curse. I mean like come on , he is the main character he is supposed to do something rather than playing with his maid all time. The zain character is more like a main character who is powerful, has a burden , and actually try to protect someone in action rather than yapping about it all time like Duke(mc).
And the animation, which is I am not so fond of, it's very 3d feels wired. It was even worse than season 1.
To be fair I am not a fan of this type of loveydovey anime but i watched it to just know how the curse will break. So maybe i was more disappointed.
The Duke of Death and His Maid Season 2 felt like a perfect continuation, and honestly, it exceeded all my expectations. I was already so invested in Bocchan and Alice’s story from Season 1, but this season brought in even more depth, more heart, and somehow even more reasons to root for these characters. Right off the bat, the stakes felt higher with Bocchan’s mother giving him a spring deadline to break his curse or lose his inheritance to his younger brother, Walter. That looming pressure added a sense of urgency to everything, and it was amazing to see how Bocchan rose to the challenge. Evenwith the stress, Alice kept things light with her playful teasing (which I will never get tired of). Their chemistry is just chef’s kiss.
One thing I loved about this season is how much attention the side characters got. Cuff and Zain’s backstory was surprisingly emotional, and watching their friendship evolve into a slow-burn romance was so sweet. I found myself smiling during their scenes—it’s like they balance each other out perfectly. And Viola? Oh man, she’s a riot! Her obsession with Rob and her hilarious antics never failed to make me laugh out loud.
We were also introduced to Amelia, this quirky half-octopus, half-girl character who brought a unique charm to the show. She had such a fun, upbeat vibe, but she also genuinely wanted to help Bocchan. And then there’s Walter and Daleth—who saw that coming? Their dynamic was so unexpected but refreshing, and it was nice to see Daleth slowly stepping out of her shell (pun intended).
What really hit me, though, were the moments when Bocchan ventured into the witch world. Those scenes had this mysterious, almost otherworldly vibe, and you could feel how desperately he wanted answers about his curse. The way he keeps pushing forward, not just for himself but for Alice, is so inspiring.
Season 2 felt like a mix of everything—romance, comedy, drama, and even a bit of mystery. The balance was spot-on. And can we just appreciate how much effort the animation team put into the details? The colors, the expressions, and even the music—it all added so much to the experience.
Overall, this season just reinforced why I love this anime so much. It’s not just about breaking a curse; it’s about the relationships, the growth, and the hope that shines through even in the darkest moments. Easy 10/10 for me.
The second season of "The Duke of Death and His Maid" started strong like the love between our romantic duo, but the second half met the touch of death incarnate. The first five episodes of the season shift focus from the relationship of the main duo, while still giving them entertaining scenarios and exclusive moments. This first half of the season worked well; it gave attention to some new developments with other characters, avoided the risk of becoming stale, and it changed the setting to make all character actions more interesting. In addition, the events felt led up to a great crescendo; the firsthalf of the season become its own arc with lasting effects, such as one character shifting in personality and becoming more prominent.
My only complaint with the first half is that it was choppy, swapping between scenes and characters in an inorganic way. With the sequel-like nature to some of the "skits," the choppiness made them feel like unwanted filler (and I say this as someone who loves filler so long as it serves some sort of role to character development, world-building, etc.). I would rather something that progresses more slowly but has a continous thread; honestly, I think this boils down to whether you are the type of person who prefers Super Mario Galaxy or Super Mario Galaxy 2 (I prefer the former).
The second half starts by playing with some of the new dynamics from the first half, and I really like some of the parts of the mid-season episodes. New character developments make for interesting dynamics between side characters. Unfortunately, I remember practically nothing from this second half, despite having just watched it. The second half was a choppy mess, with some developments feeling stagnant.
Then there is a final sort of "arc" for the last two or three episodes. It dragged. And it felt like something from a completely different series; it had action sequences, character appearances that felt unecessary, and a lack of the connection between the main duo. I was bored during the last episodes. What made things worse is that the last few minutes of the final episode started to get interesting, but it constantly left that dreadful feeling of "There is no way that this will wrap up or have a satisfying ending in the alloted time."
The first half of the second series led me to believe that something big would close out the second season, much like how the first season managed to wiggle in a satisfying conclusion. Unfortunately, the second half of the second season feels choppy and undercooked. I considered dropping the series toward the end of this second season, but I am in too deep and want to know the outcome for these characters; the last ten minutes of this season just barely kept me invested. I will pray for a better third season and hope that the second season was only temporarily cursed by a witch.
So this is season two of the series and not much really changes As we already know the characters From season one and They didn’t add any more until three episodes to go so it’s quite nice And these new characters aren’t hard to understand either This show is more of an enjoyable series Then the first one with A couple of side stories and a couple of little bits of progression to see if the curse will be lifted. We learned quite a lot about the curse and who did it Which is really cool. I don’t think we’re anywhere neargetting close to the resolution of the curse That’s okay, because season three is out right now Which I will be watching
Overall, I would say this is better than season one And is a good continuation Of the story And does its job as a season in between seasons So I do like it
Rating 7 out of 10
This isn’t a super in depth review. Check out other reviews for deeper thoughts. Season 2 was very much a bridge to Season 3. It was a half time show to the final quarters of a football game or (insert sports analogy here). Not my favorite season of the show, but I’d be lying if I said I was disappointed in S2. I mean besides Shield Hero fans I don’t know any fan who would be disappointed in a favorite show getting a 2nd season. Had plenty of great moments, high stakes, and needed character development for all involved. Art & animation stayed consistent from S1to S2.
The English Cast was phenomenal again. Ricco Fajardo’s performance as Zain is probably the only way I can tolerate Zain as a character or ever for that matter. Yes Zain has admirable qualities in how he treats, cares, and protects those closest to him but that is easily wash away by his unnecessary perverse behavior/comments towards Alice and Cuff.
*This review is based solely on my opinions and little critical knowledge. The second season seems not to have as much of comedy as the first one, but starts to bring more purpose to the series as we got a new goal for the main character (with the magical school and the limit time to break his curse) The timing of some serious/romantic scenes feels a little bit too fast, if that makes sense. At times, it feels like they just got thrown there in the middle and cut in a weird abrupt way. the cgi choice seems to limits the characters'expressions and dynamic in their designs, also, the lighting
in most scenes feels flat. It's a bit of a bother, since we have more serious moments in this season, and their silly
movments and limited face expressions end up subtracting from the wanted atmosphere.
Personally, the cgi itself is not that big of a problem, but some scenes would feel much better with a
better lighting choice that would suit the moment. Doing that would distract the audience from the dullness of
the models aswell.
About the characters, the Second Son really is the funniest XDD since the first season, all scenes with him were the
funniest. I know comedy is pretty relative, but i think a lot of people might think the same!! He's just so funny.
Daleth's interest for him is so sweet!! Their first scene together was really sweet, the moment he called her beautiful
i started shipping them. Am i to blame? Their personalities complement eachother's really well and do a lovely dynamic.
I do hope they don't make it too fast tho, the Second Son is really immature for now, i at least hope to see he getting
more mature as he realises his interest for her or something like that. A slowburn would be nice...
Talking about Daleth, i was a little disappointed when she turned into a cutie not-so-evil character so quickly. I don't
feel like we saw a lot from her and simpathized enough with her to already see her development. The pacing is really
fast... That's something that bothered me a little since the first season (about the fast pacing).
For example, the anime didn't show us much of Cuff being frustrated for being weak; it happened once in episode 10 and
then she was already super motivated to get stronger. It end up feeling like it came out of nowhere...
It would make more sense if Zain was the one determinated for training, since he the one who always showed his
frustration for being so weak and not being able to help Cuff.
A crazy shot was seeing Alice not have much reaction literally seeing her mother she thought was dead for deadass
years. Sure, she had a reaction, she was surprised... But that's really all?!?!! We don't even see her reflecting about
the fact. Man. Her mother. Who she cares so dearly for. Who she thought was DEAD. We don't have a deep character
reaction about it and it's kinda crazy.
I suppose the writing will stay like this so i'm just ignoring the flatness and taking it as "this anime simply
doesn't take things too seriously" and moving on. It doesn't make the anime bad. (It had potential to be something
more tho).
I like how creepy Shade can be.
I love the opening and ending. So good. So sweet. Suits them soo well!!
Well what the fuck was this last scene?!?!!?!?! Great job of making me hooked for the 3rd season ahaha we have to
agree sooner o later the stupid idea of going to the past so suddenly without any preparing would lead to some weird
things in the present, but i wasn't expecting that. Well if there's something we can learn from this anime is
ALWAYS WATCH UNTIL THE END!! lol

I found this season to be a really interesting one. It gave a lot more incite into a lot of things including the characters, their backstories, gave us a bit more lore and look into everyone including Daleth and provided quite a bit of character development for almost everyone. I found it interesting that Daleth isn't as menacing as she appears to be. Now that she has removed her mask it's revealed she has more insecurities than one first thought and actually she didn't want to be in this position to begin with. She's also starting to get more character development because of Walter justbeing nice to her which I'm happy with as I am a fan of Daleth. Her mysterious-ness in season 1 interested me to learn more
I am a bit surprised about how Alice took it when she saw her mother for the first time in a long time in a basically comatose'd state. I pretty much expected a little more of a reaction, especially with how everyone thought she was dead. I get Alice is a lot more calm and collected but the most we got was a shocked expression which was a little underwhelming to say the least.
I am really interested to see what's going to happen in the third season, especially now that Shade has appeared and they time travelled back to see her. I actually got goosebumps when I saw her.
9/10
A promising start, but just that. I have mixed feelings about this season. On one hand, the interactions between our protagonists continue to be great. It's enjoyable to see their relationship unfold, even though it causes a lot of distress because the curse prevents them from getting closer. Regarding the secondary characters, they remain fun and charismatic, especially Daleth with her stalker-like interactions and her love for Walter, which led to numerous amusing situations. We also had good development between Cuff and Zain, which started off quite satisfying but became lukewarm and somewhat annoying as Zain's personality unfolded throughout the episodes. As for the story, this season wasthe weakest so far. Despite the character development and the backstories, I felt a sense of disappointment. Everything seems too easy to resolve. The main plot unfolds very quickly and simply. Sade, the main villain and the greatest witch, doesn't manage to create any discomfort or threat. She seems like a weak villain who doesn't command any respect, which makes the anime quite weak.
The animation remains consistent, not losing quality, and continues with its 3D style.
In the end, the season was a 7 or 6.5 at most, lukewarm, saved only by the good characters and the perfect chemistry between the protagonists.
