In short: if you like a strong main character and well animated fights, without a structured story, you may find some enjoyment in it. First of all, this show, and the reason I am watching it is because it is based on a Chinese light novel with the same name (around 2000 chapters), which I have finished and heavily recommend. For the donghua, even though a lot of hard work has been put in to it, and the sound and animation is not bad, compared to the novel, so many important plot points are missed, and most arcs are rushed without explaining things about how theworld works, how cultivation works, and what the main character actually goes through. It just feels like a highlight reel of the main battles of the novel.

For these reasons, it is quite unsatisying and confusing to watch this without having read the novel. I will only continue to watch it because I am too obsessed with the novel and want to see certain scenes animated.

Bottom line - If you enjoy reading, read the novel instead, and watch the donghua for some of your favorite scenes animed. The donghua show on its own is not a good story.

so it was good like maybe approximately 40-50 episodes and then everything went to hell when he defeat his cousin's brother for stealing his bone. by hell i mean they literally made MC into some garbage trash. also don't go by the frecking genres tags there is a harem and that's also where everything went to hell MC got 1 too many girls and honestly like none of the girl characters aren't worthy to be in a harem-like they frecking surpass his stupid harem they should have been in the league of their own MC wasn't worthy of any of the girl this is basicallynight and shining armor tropes where MC saves some girls and she just fell for him god why they do all the female characters so bad. they made the girls absolutely weak. furthermore, the only reason i stuck around was to see MC reunited with his family but no they start to frecking giving random villains when he is done taking revenge on his cousin's brother. honestly wasted my time. i hate the fact that the genre tags were "action, fantasy, and adventure" there was no tag mentioning that there was gonna be a "trashy" harem-like, way to go ruin good female characters and make MC into worthless trash. also, I'm not just upset cause they did the female characters badly let me put it this way MC literally imprison one of the fairy girls and made her become his maid nice right (sarcasm) it totally not any Stockholm syndrome oh yes, and to make it perfect they sugar coat it as if she actually wanted to be MC maid mind you although she lost to MC she went down fighting. 1 more thing the same girl MC was like "keep her by my side wouldn't bring me any trouble, right? stay by my side I will protect you" mind you he was checking her mind out littery diving into her consciousness totally not invading of privacy it's for everyone to go into someone consciousness (sarcasm). anyways i haven't seen him meet his parents someone who likes this show commented on the episode where he meets his family cause no way in hell I'm gonna waste more of my time watching this also MC's plot armor made him into a garbage person heck his personality is hypocritical cause he's like don't bully the weak but he does the same thing also slowly his male friend disappear as soon as his harem start to be building. i haven't seen the little monkey for a good while and the lions with many heads. so yeah I'm dropping this also his male friend is way better than him so far that i see. also when i say "male friend" disappears i mean you don't see them anymore in the anime barely any screen time most of his time is with his harem screen time.

Review of "Wanmei Shijie" (Perfect World) Rating: 8.3/10 If you’re a fan of fantasy and martial arts, "Wanmei Shijie," or "Perfect World," is a donghua that deserves your attention. Adapted from the popular web novel by Chen Dong, this series offers a captivating storyline and impressive animation, drawing viewers into a richly crafted world filled with adventure and intrigue. Plot Overview The story follows Shi Hao, a young boy navigating a world dominated by powerful clans and mystical beings. After a devastating loss, he sets out on a journey of self-discovery and growth. Along the way, he faces formidable challenges, meets unforgettable characters, and learns valuable lessons about friendshipand resilience.

What Makes It Good

Immersive World-Building: One of the series' biggest strengths is its detailed universe. The lore surrounding various clans, mythical creatures, and ancient artifacts creates a vibrant setting that truly draws you in.

Relatable Characters: Shi Hao is a well-rounded character whose struggles and growth resonate with viewers. The supporting cast also adds depth, with each character bringing their own unique story to the table.

Beautiful Animation: The visuals are a real highlight. The animation is stunning, featuring smooth action sequences and breathtaking landscapes that elevate the storytelling experience.

Strong Themes: "Wanmei Shijie" dives into themes like resilience and personal growth, leaving you feeling inspired long after the episode ends.

What Could Be Better

Pacing Issues: Some viewers have pointed out that the pacing can be uneven. Certain arcs feel rushed, while others drag on, which might disrupt the flow for some. Personally, I find the pacing intriguing; it keeps me on my toes, even if it’s not flawless.

Familiar Tropes: The series does lean on familiar fantasy tropes, which might feel predictable to some. For me, though, the execution still keeps things engaging. Sometimes, there’s comfort in classic storytelling.

Character Depth: While Shi Hao and the main characters are well-developed, some supporting characters could use a bit more depth. I think that with a little more attention to these characters, the overall story could become even richer. But the main cast does a great job of carrying the narrative.

Conclusion

Overall, "Wanmei Shijie" is a captivating donghua that beautifully blends fantasy, action, and heartfelt storytelling. Its stunning animation and engaging plot make it a must-watch for fans of the genre. While it has its flaws, the positives definitely shine through.

If you’re in the mood for an enchanting journey filled with adventure and emotion, "Wanmei Shijie" is worth adding to your watchlist. It’s a series that’s sure to spark discussions and keep you hooked!

Story | 8/10 | The story is pretty common among donghuas as far as tropes go but slightly unique in how it's a revenge/seeking family plot, the mystery of how it all happened, who the perpetrators are, and what happens once revenge has been dished, or family have been saved isn't hidden for very long either. Pretty early into the show it's explained to the MC to set his 'path' so to speak for the rest of the show. I personally liked that it ended up that way because it allowed for personal opinion/investment into his feelings towards it earlier on while also seeing a childhoodpurity. It contains the common power growth idea wrapped into most cultivation donghua and incorporates spirits/anime soul beasts very similarly to soul land (*Douluo Dalu*)

Art | 9/10 |

I'm going to include length in the art section because I feel like it's relevant specifically in the case of donghua. There are many donghua with fantastic (imo) animation and battlecraft but many tend to balance that with extremely short length, this thankfully does not. The battles are done extremely well, it incorporates that black/monochrome filter flash + red blood filter occasionally on specific bursts or moves to add dramatic flair (see one punch man to know what I'm talking about) and pairs it with some absolutely fantastic scenery. All in all I was not disappointed whatsoever with the art.

Sound | 7/10 |

The sound was good, but that's about it, the character's voices were fairly unique and fit to character, battle effects were standard compared to other equally well rated donghua, it didn't really excel in any specific place for sound but it wasn't really lacking much either, thus the 'good' rating. If there was any room for improvement it would be music, and music timing/fading and length. I loved the intros and outros but music used for dramatic flair or added emotional depth really wasn't the dongua's strong suit.

Character | 7/10 |

The characters were all pretty unique, I feel like the brother of the MC was the only exception, a seriously boring antagonist, but he did really do well at grinding gears. The females in the show are fairly billboard common, tropes were met and few stream line breaking developments for the characters. The MC develops predictably but none of it is unenjoyable. The antagonists are likely the most lacking part of the show though.

Overall/Enjoyment | 9/10|

I'm pairing the two because to me, enjoyment weighs extremely heavily on the overall rating to the degree that sometimes other can be almost ignored. In the case of this anime I would say it was a show I binged after watching maybe the second episode, it was fun, action packed, hilarious at times, and really cute/sad at times, it was predictable but I wasn't really looking for a groundbreaking new concept when I chose to watch anyways. I guess I'd put it like this: If you know what you're getting into by reading the summary / intro to the donghua / have seen others, you'll very likely enjoy it. I did.

[NO SPOILERS] There are tons of series about cultivation out there, but this one is a bit special. Having watched all of the mainstreams like Soul Land, Xingchen Bian, Battle Through the Heavens, etc., this one felt like a breath of fresh air. The MC is the king "I don't take shit-talk from anyone". Enemies get stronger, but ya boi does not shy away from a fight... seriously, you'll have to watch to believe. Tactical retreats are not a thing. The characters have diversity, except for the normal, stereotypical elements found in every donghua. Overconfident enemy talks shit, MC slaps face followed by the standard "We'llremember this!" exit. There's a bird later on that's hilarious, so the humor is there. There are 'gaps' between the weak and strong, but this isn't nearly as big of a deal as others show.

There are plenty of standard cultivation elements standard, but it bring its own unique way of leveling up. This is not a spoiler and is a little similar to others, BUT instead of finding some weird drugs stashed in a 10 million old vase, experience is one of the large factors of cultivating. Simply understanding new concepts is enough to help someone breakthrough.

TL:DR - Its worth the watch. The story and fights are fun

There are a lot of reviews that really stomp on this show but in my opinion it's one of the best if not the best coming out as of late. The episodes are top tier in terms of quality and direction (especially lately). The protagonist does indeed constantly get put with challenges (from random people to random silly events) but this is what is expected from the genre. It's cultivation based so every new enemy is a stepping stone and from what I've seen, they are VERY relevant in some way. I've enjoyed every small side story I've seen so far and also enjoyed realisinghow they impacted the overall direction later into the show (e.g. obtained treasures are often used and old friends are brought back into the picture).

This is my first review so I won't go as in-depth, but I definitely do believe this show is worth watching as you can see everything slowly coming together especially in the later episodes. Some episodes even left me speechless and in complete awe over the animation quality as well as the INSANE action scenes.

I love everything about the donghua graphics, cloth design, the girls he is with, actions, a little humors, and romance. I hope that they put more in the romance and humors in it. Also Shi hao need friends too because throughout his battle, he fight by himself. It is just too lonely. Shi hao got the best males outfit compare to all the donghua out there. I really like his outfits cause it looks white then it looks gray so cool especially his shoe. Overall I love everything about it, it just feel that shi hao's journey is mostly by himself and fighting byhimself. He needs lots of friends helping him out like battle through the heaven and the Great ruler. Anyway Perfect world is my number 1, battle through the heaven number 2, The great ruler number 3, throne of seal, soul land, apothesis, jade dynasty.

I like the anime so far, it's not you're typical OP Cultivator MC & it let's the audience know that. I can understand how some people aren't a fan of the 3D animations, that most 动画(DongHua/anime) use. I myself don't understand why but, I enjoy them anyways. It gives a classic DongHua vibe. The character grows from each experience, although a few of the villain's are your typical over confidant type; It's to be expected in the martial arts type of anime. I personally don't have an issue with the main character to be honest. From the few Martial Art's anime I have watched (meaning theChinese one's), the main characters are sometimes given special powers or know certain things. I love characters that struggle & earn their worth, specially when it doesn't break the flow or the way the world works.

This is epic. I would definitely recommend this. As of this point, seen 99 eps. It meanders from time to time, and has been doing so for the last couple of months, but when it's focused and on point, it's really great. And right now it's back on point! If you make it this far, you'll know what I mean. By the way if you're starting this now I envy you. Baby Shi Hao is really cute!! But the adult is not bad either. :-) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ edit. currently at episode 155. This is still very awesome to watch! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Born into a unique world where villages fight to gain power andcontrol, the main character, Shi Hao, is a genius blessed by the heavens born under the poorest of conditions.

His clan, however, has a mysterious past. To rise up and become the genius he is meant to be, the clan goes through every effort to aid his cultivation as they battle through fanatical monsters and engage in power struggles with other clans.

His journey will bring him through unknown lands until he is able to become a person that can truly shake the world.

Its okey, at starting it was good then later on haram added that makes it annoing, i enjoyed first 50 episode , also first 50 episodes can be said its first major ark. then from there on it become quite rush . i guess they started to adoped 15-20 web novel chapter in one episode and ,many things feels rushed. in that way. well i enjoyed it. charater r decent written. not very deep, because of added harem 🫡. i cant feel tooo touched. my rating r quite strict giving it 6 , if you have lots of free time you can watch it first 50episode gonna be very good then later it feels rushed , but the animation improve as episode progress. so you ca give it a try.

I am doing a round of donghua, because I finished all anime in my watch list. I only watch fantasy and there's almost no western fantasy in donghua, so I am left with cultivation stuff. Per se I don't dislike the genre, but I struggle with its EXTREMELY formulaic structure and the boring repetition of the same exact tropes and stereotypes to the tiniest detail. I also find the super flashy animation too overwhelming, and the constant battles annoying. So, I drop all what's not truly outstanding. This is NOT. And it's the second time I give it a chance and second time it disappoints me. It does start nice, theMC is quite cool as a kid, and the tribal setting in a desert has a charm that does stand out from the many copy-paste stories with an historical Chinese setting.

But after a few tens of chapters this is gone, and the story soon becomes an extremely boring loop of the same thing over and over again (like most cultivation stories).

It's a shame, it had potential, but either the writer or the publisher wasted it completely by normalising it for what I suppose they thought that the audience of this genre wants.

Regrettable.

in my opinoin

all - it is a good anime, but not great one, not a masterpiece
