I absolutely loved Carnival Phantasm, but its F/GO counterpart pales in comparison, and it's exactly just because of the material it's supposed to parody. As you probably know, Carnival Phantasm's cast was limited to Tsukihime and Stay Night, and thus had much more limited number of characters to feature. And as all of those characters were written by a single person, their chemistry with one another was just naturally easier to be written better. F/GO, with each character designed and often written by a different writer, horribly fails at this premise and that's projected to Fate/Grand Carnival too. Comedy here peaks at killing off all Cú Chulainnservant variants or Orion assaulting Mashu and it's pathetic. Most of the content of the episode 1 is just fanservice for gacha addicts who want to see their favourite servants animated, but it doesn't provide much else besides that.

Although they used Super Affection as ending, they didn't even manage to animate it at all, which could've been the one redeeming quality of this shitshow.

EDIT: Super Affection OP has been released. It's also basically just more fanservice for the F/GO fans, but doesn't really bring anything new if you want more than that.

ranca ga shinda Storywise, it's a jumble of mess, but who really cares about that? You get your funny shorts, your favorite servants — and most importantly — you get a whole season's worth of memes to take out of context. The art isn't ufotable, but it stylistically works with the content given. SUPER AFFECTION WITH THE GRAND ORDER SEIYUUS, WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR???? The show doesn't need to give you character development. You've gotten that by playing FGO anyways.I'm enjoying this OVA so far. I can definitely see there being more scenes that can be taken out of context for the general public to use and milk for another decade. I'm excited to see if it'll be all the lancers that need to avoid death, or if it is just our boy Cu.

Story x Character: 9 It's a mess but I dont give a damn honestly. From Nero, to CU CHULLAIN GA SHINDA, to Orion getting sniped, its really fun seeing how the Servants would act if the story was a Comedy (since yknow Grail War) Art: 9 Seeing Servants drawn/animated in the Anime's art compared to their versions in the Game is kind of refreshing and fun to see Sound: 8 Super Affection OP? With Grand Order Seiyuus? Straight 8Enjoyment: 9

Any Adaptation of FGO is such a blast to watch(or Read)

Overall: 8

Even though FGO is one of my fav mobile games, I cant let Bias get in the way of judging

Would have loved to see like 12-24 episodes of FGC honestly, but hey this is still very much fine, just gonna wait another 10 years I suppose

If you enjoyed Carnival Phantasm and came here expecting a similar experience, Fate/Grand Carnival completely differs from its predecessor. This anime is a fan-service towards the audience that enjoys Fate/Grand Order. To clarify what Grand Carnival differs from Carnival Phantasm is that you would not understand the context of various scenarios when gags or jokes are used, unless you've actually played the game and understand what the FGO community is like. There are of course, familiar characters but they follow the context of what commonly occurs in the game such as in-game events that people who have played the game are aware of. I have playedFGO for a long time now and with my understanding of the game, Fate/Grand Carnival actually carries the soul of what was Carnival Phantasm. You're whole enjoyment of this anime is solely reliant of your understanding of Fate/Grand Order, where if you haven't played the game, then everything will go over your head.

If you have actually played the game (or know anything about FGO), then I am sure that you will enjoy Grand Carnival the same as you would have with Carnival Phantasm.

Alarm bells rung loud and clear within seconds of the OP starting. A bad cover of the original season a decade previous complete with animation made to resemble, but fail to recapture the magic of, that fun little romp. Unfunny, thoroughly uncharming and a chore to suffer through even at it's short run time. A pale imitation of carnival phantasm at best and a damning indictment of the state of type-moon as a company/franchise in recent years at worst. the animation is passable. that is the only redeeming thing i can say for it. go play melty blood instead of this.
