Reviews for All Saints Street 2
Back to AnimeI loved the first season so I went onto the second one. Watched it all in an hour again. I love how you can now summon demons with QR codes. Better beware of those! Said demon also sounded like some sort of crazy advertising sales guy. Again, great antics from all the characters. It's so fun. And although it seemed to take a slightly darker turn, it was all good in the end! There's also some more action/fighting as a result of that but it's still cool. Still enjoy this series. So let's see...Story: 10/10
There was some sort of overarching plot involving some demon king that got half-wrapped up by the end. I mean it did, but I want to know what happens next. It's definitely not the worst thing i've seen.
Art: 10/10
Again, it's very unique but good!
Sound: 10/10
I mean... definitely. They kept the opening theme as well as the ending themes from the first season so no extra comments there. There's also a lot of Halloween-sounding music.
Character: 10/10
As unique as usual! We got some more character backstories this time. Awesome. Some relationship developments.
Enjoyment: 10/10
Thoroughly enjoyed the second season, even if I was sleep deprived watching it too early in the morning. Oops! But I'll just have to watch it again.
Overall: 10/10
To be honest as soon as I finished writing this review I went back and rewatched it again >.<
It's definitely fun, even as a rewatch. I think this has safely made my top 20 anime for now :)
I enjoyed season one so I was hopeful season two would be nice as well. Wasn't disappointed. The story is interesting and fun, the characters are well designed and charming, and despite this being a short anime it catches you. At least it did me. I would look forward to watching this every week despite it being 4 mins a pop. Its not a serious anime, but that's its charm to me. Its light heartedness in this 2020 bs is something I definitely needed. And although I do enjoy a darker anime, I needed this. I needed a show to make me laugh, smile, and just breathe again amidst all the destruction.
And it did that. For at least 4 mins a week I felt like everything was OK again, and that was everything to me.
I had never been a huge fan of donghua because of how highly censored all the action and romance is. This show isn't an exception either. Two of the main characters were missing: an American zombie roommate because his fleshless cheek was too graphic, and a Japanese carry girl neighbor for being to sexy. Even with these limitations, I quickly feel in love with the charm of the first season. However there is a big problem with the second season. The first few episodes are not following the mc, but his brother. I don't mind the new character, but the first episodes in this season arelacking the same charm the following episodes and season one had.
All Saint's Street is the kind of donghua that you can come back to time and time again and still get a giggle out of and could make your day much better than it originally was. All Saint's Street 2 has the same gimmick as the first season, where you have Neil and plenty of other characters in rather fun scenarios that you can get a kick out of. First off, the art is absolutely magnificent. The art is very simple (almost like you just wanted to do sketches out of CSP with just one brush), but the animation is VERY fluid and the colour palettethe series uses gives a rather soothing feel, almost like the cherry on top of a cake you've perfected.
The story doesn't do much to impress, but you have a solid plot that overarchs what the goals are (or were) for each character. Typical demon-king plot note that at the end of the day, you face off face-to-face.
As enjoyable as this series is, I have two main problems.
The beginning of this season felt like I was experiencing deja vu, and almost didn't feel original to start with.
*spoiler and criticism ahead, be warned*
By the second episode, you have Nick trying to summon the Demon King out of Neil. I believe this was another episode that occured in the first season, however it had a different ending than the one in this season. Regardless, I feel like using the same plot-hold for episodes really shows some kind of laziness and you sit there going "I've already watched this, do I need to watch this again?" Despite this, I was still determined to finish it, and I'm glad I did seeing as how that was really one of the only plot-holds that seemed to replay again (besides it being mentioned that Lily wouldn't go to an angel school and would instead transfer).
The other main issue I had was how lazy the ending felt. It felt REALLY GOOD to have each group come together and try and take down the demon king, having every character reminded as to why they're in Neil's presence in the first place. However, this takes a turn when the Demon King side of Neil pops out and starts destroying stuff left and right. This, to me, felt like a genuine cop-out throughout the last episode with Neil facing the Demon King without having any issues, while everything around him is literally coming to ruin. Sitting there, I feel like I'm stuck between confusion and sadness--on one side I feel like bawling my eyes out because of Nick's backstory, the other part of me wants to take a notepad and figure out another way of writing how the ending should have panned out.
Not to mention, while I adore the animation, the art during the last episode feels slapped together and not as smooth or great-looking as other episodes.
Overall though, I understand that All Saint's Street is lighthearted and supposed to be funny, with a couple of added heartstring-pullers just for added spice. ALL SHOWS, no matter how good or bad you think it is will have flaws. All Saint's Street has this kind of charm to it that not a lot of other shows have, which is why I think I overall enjoyed what it produced.
