Reviews for Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld Reminiscence

It became a staple at this point, and I gotta say I'm glad it did. Recap episodes only increase accessibility while at the same time remaining an entirely optional approach to watching a series. But sometimes, or should I say, most of the time falls short on delivering the complete or most of the experience that watching the whole show is pron to provide. It's by no mean the best way to approach a series, but for regulars of the show, people that rewatch series often, it's a time saver many people underrate to the depth of the abyss. This recap episode goes through the firstcour of SAO:A War of The Underworld which byitself was a pretty short and fast paced climax of Alicization that rendered Kirito from the Dual Wielder to the Dual Wheeler.

An idea that makes sense… but becomes extremely tiresome in practice within Sword Art Online. The premise of this special is, in theory, valid: to recap the Aincrad arc to prepare the audience for the series' upcoming events. For those who have been away from the series for a long time, this might even work as a quick way to remember important points. The problem is that, in practice, this is already being taken to the extreme for me. Honestly, there comes a point where these recaps cease to be useful and become merely repetitive. It feels like watching the same thing over and over again, withoutany relevant new information to justify the time invested. And this is even more pronounced when you're binge-watching the franchise, as was my case.

After stopping at Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale and deciding to resume everything at once, I ended up consuming practically years of content in a short period. In this context, these recap specials become even more exhausting. What could be a useful resource ends up seeming like just unnecessary repetition, breaking the rhythm of the experience. The biggest problem is precisely this imbalance: either the recap is useful for those completely lost in the story, or it becomes irrelevant for those already following everything sequentially. There's not much middle ground. For those immersed in the narrative, it sounds like pure filler, something done more out of obligation than creative necessity.

Putting the rant aside for a moment, analyzing it more technically, there's not much to comment on. The animation is good, but that's because it reuses already known scenes. The voice acting follows the same competent standard as always, precisely because it's also reused material. In other words, there's practically no new element that justifies watching this special beyond the recap's purpose.

In the end, it's content that adds nothing to the overall experience. For new viewers or for those who have completely forgotten the story, it might even have some use. But for any other case, especially for those following everything sequentially, it ends up being just tiresome.

Still, my rating isn't as low as it could be, mostly because I'm currently enjoying the franchise and expecting something new, like the Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night movies.

Final score: 4/10.

I don't recommend this special. In the end, it's just another example of how recaps, when overused, stop helping and start hindering the experience.

Uma ideia que faz sentido… mas que se torna extremamente cansativa na prática dentro de Sword Art Online.

A proposta desse especial é, em teoria, válida: recapitular o arco de Aincrad para preparar o público para os próximos eventos da série. Para quem ficou muito tempo afastado da obra, isso pode até funcionar como uma forma rápida de relembrar pontos importantes. O problema é que, na prática, isso já está sendo levado ao extremo para mim.

Sinceramente, chega um momento em que esses recaps deixam de ser úteis e passam a ser apenas repetitivos. A sensação é de estar assistindo a mesma coisa várias vezes, sem qualquer novidade relevante que justifique o tempo investido. E isso pesa ainda mais quando você está maratonando a franquia, como foi o meu caso.

Depois de ter parado lá em Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale e decidido retomar tudo de uma vez, acabei consumindo praticamente anos de conteúdo em um curto período. Nesse contexto, esses especiais recap se tornam ainda mais desgastantes. O que poderia ser um recurso útil acaba parecendo apenas uma repetição desnecessária, quebrando o ritmo da experiência.

O maior problema é justamente esse desequilíbrio: ou o recap é útil para quem está completamente perdido na história, ou ele se torna irrelevante para quem já está acompanhando tudo em sequência. Não existe muito meio-termo. Para quem está imerso na narrativa, ele soa como puro preenchimento de espaço algo feito mais por obrigação do que por necessidade criativa.

Deixando o desabafo um pouco de lado, analisando de forma mais técnica, não há muito o que comentar. A animação é boa, mas isso porque reutiliza cenas já conhecidas. A dublagem segue o mesmo padrão competente de sempre, justamente por também ser material reaproveitado. Ou seja, não existe praticamente nenhum elemento novo que justifique assistir esse especial além da proposta de recapitulação.

No fim das contas, é um conteúdo que não acrescenta nada à experiência geral. Para novos espectadores ou para quem realmente esqueceu completamente a história, pode até ter alguma utilidade. Mas para qualquer outro caso, especialmente para quem está acompanhando tudo em sequência, acaba sendo apenas cansativo.

Ainda assim, minha nota não é tão baixa quanto poderia ser, muito mais por estar num momento positivo com a franquia e pela expectativa de seguir para algo novo, como os filmes de Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night.

Não recomendo esse especial. No fim, ele acaba sendo mais um exemplo de como recaps, quando usados em excesso, deixam de ajudar e passam a atrapalhar a experiência.
