THE WORST ANIME OF 2019 PERIOD! Ok guys be warned I am going to rip apart this piece of garbage. I hate it so much that I can finally take all my anger with it. Watching many kinds of filths can be really tough to endure, so sometimes in my free time I decide to do other activities like practicing New Zealand’s rugby national team dance, the Haka so like that, the Maori Gods can help me endure this piece of turd that I will talk about. The torture I had with this was horrible that I want to forget it. I thought that Afterlost wasthe worst anime of 2019 but Try Knights takes the cake and tried harder to surpass it, unless something wants to challenge it in the fall 2019 season.

Try Knights is a manga adaptation of the same name written by Shunsaku Yano, but the author doesn’t know a thing about Rugby and I will explain this in a little bit, because inside of this pseudo sports anime, what there really is a laughable try hard boys love story and to add to this disaster, the Japan Rugby Football Union, the official governmental entity of Rugby in their country, decided to get help from 2 of the worst current animation studios that I already talked about in this site before. This atrocity was made possible with the morons who brought you Conception and the hentai assholes who brought you Galaxy Tylor oh yeah baby we go all out today.

THIS PRODUCED THANKS TO GONZO AND STUDIO SEVEN. Since mathematics don’t fail and the commutative rule also applies here I can assure you that if you have turd and you add another turd you get a bigger pile of turd and this show is the biggest example of that. See science is everywhere.

After finding this information

The biggest questions I have is how did they let this manga adaptation of the same name got to be accepted and how did a sports federation approve that this should be done by the hands of assholes who are only good at making scenes where a male human and female human drawings reproduce only for lust and not for making babies and also they destroy legacy series like Captain Tylor.

I cannot process how did a committee didn’t see something wrong with this idea. NOT EVEN A MINISCULE THING GOING WRONG WITH IT.

Holly hell really that work of CG is so wrong, so inadequate, so beyond believe. I will tell you my scale to comparison and I hope you are reading. NOT EVEN STAR FOX FROM SNES LOOKS THIS BAD. I don't think that even the worst playstation game or the worst Saturn game that used polygons looked that repulsive. There are scenes where they design the characters like the icon of the yellow person of google maps but in a horrendous way.

The downgrade is so notorious that in episode 8, which is the stopping point I had for this mess, they gave up and the producers decided to throw their roblox characters, that I was perplexed by such ridiculous way of animation, and sometimes I was thinking that they did this as “try to watch before you close the video player challenge” cause there were instances that I was wondering if one character is emaciated or just drawn poorly.

It’s hard to believe that in 2019, something like Star Fox on Super Nintendo or any super Nintendo game using the FX Chip looks better than this and that was the 90s. Heck for all you, haters of Panzer Dragoon, the 90s CG of that OVA looks better than this and Just let me remind you of that this show was supervised by the Japan Rugby Football Union by the way.

Well besides having people using old technology to make CGI and making it even worst, what is the premise of this thing?

If you have watched any typical sports anime, you already know. It is about these rugby school club that wants to get better, but they don’t have certain key player positions, so this guy enters to the club despite having lost his practice after an injury that occurred many years ago, and they want to prove that they are the best of the region so they can defeat the Elite 3. Sorry there is no Elite 4 here and that’s the premise of this piece of garbage.

One of the things that really annoyed and angered me, as a sports fan and for sports anime standards, the producers and manga author don’t know a thing about rugby in general. In shows like this explaining the rules is one of the basics if you want to attract more people to play such sport. But here they just searched rugby on google and rubbed it through their asses because these producers don’t know that Rugby has many variants. This show doesn’t know about the different variants of rugby, is it Rugby Union, Rugby League, Rugby Sevens because I barely see more than 7 players in this team, but apparently it is Rugby Union. Well thanks for at least telling us about the different ways Rugby is played Try Knights. Maybe you should try harder

Also they don’t know the rules of this sport even though they hired a professional rugby player to explain the rules after each episode ends, but they don’t implement them properly in any instance.

The biggest issue I have with this crap it is that in Rugby Union, for example they don't know the difference between Maul and Scrum and the moment when they are making points, the numbers appear randomly on the scoreboard and they don't do other ways of making points like Conversion Kick and Drop Goal and I know this may be nitpicking but if a sport federation is supervising this project, and not because the show is called “TRY” knights , shouldn’t the rules be as clear as possible? Even the little I know about over the top sports anime like Inazuma eleven with their crazy techniques at least don’t pull non sense like this.

Also another thing Try Knights doesn’t even Try to do something Right and they desperately attempt to create fanservice for any desperate fan of Boy Love stories, but it comes out as annoying and really doesn’t make the show even better, it makes moronic, stupid and bland. It is just filler to kill time for this crappy promotion of a big sporting event.

I don’t know if the fujioshi bate is strong on this one since I am not the target audience for that aspect, but comparing to series like Kuroko no Basket or Free where the artstyle is impressive to even attract people that don’t give a damn about sports in general just shows that this is low levels of ass.

Now I will tell you how to make over a million dollars and a good rugby promotion. Grab the JoJo episode and the part where Jonathan and Dio are playing rugby, make it an anime and boom you made over 1 million dollars. But I guess that is asking too much.

To end it all, the question is why Studio Seven is trying so hard with non hentai shows? I mean if you look at their other works which contain sexual intercourse, they are regarded as one of the best in that genre. I know some studios started doing Hentai at first like JC Staff back in the 90s and they sucked at it, to the point that they produced that Mom show that I could possibly talk about it in the future, but with Studio Seven, these guys are swimming on a gold mine if they know how to translate sex in animation perfectly, I may not know that since I won’t watch more hentai than the 3 shows I already watched and with my Tsui no sora review also here but the ratings seem to valid this claim. so Why bother on this non sexual shows whenever something from them comes out every single time

The other part it is sad seeing one of the producers that filled my childhood in the now extinct channel called animax and brought me entertainment with things like Black Cat, kaleido Star and even Linkin Park’s music video “Breaking The Habit” has gone so low and asking for help to a crappy hentai studio for their productions and to end it all, really Japan, is this the way you want to promote the Rugby World Cup 2019? Let's see if they don't do something more pathetic for the Summer Olympics Tokyo 2020.

This is everything for today, I hope you enjoyed reading this long review and see you around.

I felt bad for this series so many times during its run that I just lost count, for various reasons. I mean, look, if you have your main character declare he will put a collar on the other main character in the very first episode... at the very least make it a thing. A gag, a running joke, something that comes up multiple times during the series for a bit of fanservice. If you have a flamboyant pink guy whose self-proclaimed motto is "enjoy and excite"... leverage that for fanservice. When you're showcasing a sport with so much body contact... put some fanservice in there, it'sso damn easy.

And - yes, I'm going on about fanservice, which no anime should be solely built around, but if all else fails, at least you should be able to fall back on that. And boy, does Try Knights fail everywhere, sadly even at fanservice. Story and plot are pretty much non-existent, just a very few basic building blocks of a club in disarray. A few of the characters seem to have at least some level of, well, character to them, but it's very rarely utilised. The voice acting sounds rather sterile and unmotivated all too often, which is unfortunate because the animation is outright horrid all too often as well. Soundtrack can't help either, exactly because the visual setup is so sterile. It doesn't do much to showcase rugby in any sort of exciting ways either, and that's probably its biggest crime, being a kind of official tie-in for the rugby world cup happening in Japan. With all this, the fact that even the few attempts at fanservice are so tentative (or outright bad, like I've never wanted to say no to shirtless boys before) is really unforgiveable.

There is some honest effort that can be seen, here and there, particularly in the last few episodes... But it's not enough to redeem the entire series. At any rate, why should anyone suffer through more than three quarters of a series to get to the good bits?

Well, after all the negative reviews... I felt like giving contra. Story: I'll admit... when it comes to rugby... I have zero knowledge. But rather than enjoying the game, I prefer to look at the interactions of the characters. So it may not be most accurate when it comes to rugby (I really have no idea), but if you come to watch a sports anime for the general atmosphere rather than the actual game, it may remind other sports anime. If you don't like this kind of animes to begin with... you maybe look in the wrong place. Art: Well, I'm not the first to care aboutarts, but as a josei, this reminds more of a shoujo anime than a shonen. Not that I mind.

Sound: No special thoughts.

Characters: Though in a way, our characters were quite stereotypical for anime sport, when coming next to each other they make a nice combination

Enjoyment: As cliche as it is, I love this kind of animes, even if they can be predictable. I watched it as I looked for a relaxed anime rather than overwhelming anime. So... I guess it was good for me.

Perfect anime? No. Unique anime? Probably not too. Will you miss something by skipping it? Maybe not, but if you look for a nice relaxed show, why won't you give it a try?

I mean... what do you want me to say about this? This is like when Gainax and Production I.G decided to team up and make FLCL except we got the two worst studios working in the anime industry. I mean, this show is like the stars aligning for us. I mean, we are probably never going to get something this terrible for a long time. I mean... everything from the PVs to the schedule delays to the visual art following to the show, I knew this was going to be one of- no, THE worst anime I have ever seen in my entire life. Ihave now watched every single episode. Do I regret it? Yes and no.

Let's start with the animation which is... horrendous. Some of the worst key framing and overall feel of the show I have ever seen in a while. I felt like I was watching a kid in the back going through a slideshow presentation and falling asleep halfway through. At least Arifuerta was hilariously dumb. This is just painfully awful that I wouldn't wish up on my worst enemies( if I had any).

The characters? What characters? You mean the cardboard cutouts that kicked cgi balls? Yes I did see them and yea, don't even bother asking me questions about them or what their personalities that even with watching the last episode 3 minute ago, I don't remember their names and honestly, the character models are so shitty that they all look the same without a single bit of irony. What the hell were Gonzo and Studio Seven even on when they made this? Jesus, this was terrible.

The music is boring and plain. The OP is pretty bad and so does the ed. The sound design is unremarkable and I don't even remember anything awful like in other shows.

Every anime I have seen and disliked, I can picture in my mind a hypothetical person that could watch a show I didn't like and enjoying it. Even CONCEPTION, which is pretty fucking awful, I could see a person that could watch Conception and say "I didn't mind that". Try Knight though? I cannot picture someone watching this show and liking it. I'm sorry I just can't. I can only picture that the reason why this was made was because Yakuza needed a front and this was their best option.

Yeah, this wasn't the most well-versed review I've ever given and I am sorry about that, but I really don't know what the fuck to say to this. This show should be studied on and be taught to animators on how not to do an anime. Thank You Seven and Gonzo. You have created a truly awful show. That deserves at least a slow clap.

Review up to episode 5. Verdict: A "mediocre" 5. About me: 20-ish woman, so I'm exactly the advertised target audience. I've enjoyed sports anime such as Kuroko no Basuke, Tsurune, Haikyuu and Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru and hell, even gone through Yuri on Ice as well as Free!. I'm no rugby (or sports in general) fanatic and I'm fine with not 100% accurate technical stuff. To be honest... I'm disappointed. This could have been so much better. But this totally stands and falls with the animation. Have I seen worse? Yes. Have I seen better? Hell yes. You don't just animate a title with a manga that has artby Takarai Rihito and then come up with this subpar gibberish for the anime -- it won't fly. If you went for a shounen anime for 6-10 y.o. boys, sure...Go ahead. They might easily forgive/not notice the bad art and horrible (!) computer animations. But this is supposed to be Josei...? At least they stopped using the computer animations after episode 3 (?).

I think they spent 90% of the budget on the voice actors and character design makers. Sure, you'll have a decent image here and there but the overall animation/design is bad and the characters don't match their published/advertised character design. When I saw the trailer for this a few months back I was hopeful that these problems would be fixed once the actual series premiered but it got even more horrible at times.... And I'm someone who even endured the most horrible Black Clover animations...You can get through that if an anime will have 200+ episodes... But not on such a short anime... Then it's usually go big or go home (unless you're producing for kids who won't care or notice either way).

The voice actors are great though. So much that I actually feel like it's a waste...

They should have rather taken lesser known seiyuus (come on, there's a bunch of them in Japan... and even the rookies there are often ten times better than the English dub pros, so you'd still find enough matching voices) who might come with a lower price tag and invested the difference in better animation.

The story is okay to good. Nothing too exciting up to ep.5 but nothing too boring either.

Sports anime do need a lot of background stories and stuff to make you invested in the characters after all, so I don't mind that too much. How many episodes is this supposed to get though? 13? If so, I'm not sure we can get anywhere. We'll either be stuck with no real development/a cliffhanger or they'll rush through the actually interesting parts at the end of the season and leave us hanging all the same....So I'd actually hope they'd get like 20-24 episodes. Though they would absolutely have to up their game with the animations to make more people watch it...

As I have no clue about rugby, the chibi tid bit at the end of each episode explaining some rules is nice though I'd certainly prefer it if they integrated this into the actual episodes like they did for example in Haikyuu. People who actually know the rules and expect more tactical info will probably be disappointed.

As for the coming DVD/Blu-ray release... They must overhaul the existing animations. I see no way they'd sell more than 200-300 copies otherwise because I can't imagine anyone other than the die-hard fans of the seiyuus or the manga/novel spending money on it otherwise. Which is really sad. Come on, this has potential....

By now, I might even prefer it if they put this on hold for half a year and fixed the animation....It's obvious they were either entirely under-budgeted from the beginning or they ran out of time horrendously and just half-a**ed it all to hell. I don't get why they didn't test this out with 2 nicely animated episodes as OVAs and then followed through with a decent season if it got the attention they wanted.

Oh well.... Fingers crossed that they'll save it somehow. I haven't lost hope entirely yet seeing as how they at least (for now) didn't use the horrible CG anymore.

Try Knights? More like try HARDER to represent a sport that the main show doesn't know what to showcase. ESPECIALLY since (at the time of airing) this is the Japan Rugby World Cup, and it incorporates only one or a few types of play, and this show just went to whack every single type of Trys in rugby, as if to educate the viewer about the sport (like we know nothing DUH). Smarts. At its core, this shitshow is an ultimate failure in all aspects: story/plot, characters, animation (the biggest sin) and sound. Need I say more? There's no story, just high school boys with no motivation,in the usual school club at the verge of disbanding, and needing an external person, such as a "Zhuge Liang-esque" strategist junior and some "Bakugo" aggressive people (cuz' you need some brute force) to get things going, essentially forming a team and going straight for gold. Let the characterization begin...and I don't really need to fill you in with the remainder. It's as boring as watching soap opera shows of the past and I could spend time watching another show, but I chose to press onto this animosity.

Even worse is the animation. Dabbling in repeat shots, along with the 2D and 3DCG mix is Gonzo in partnership with the infamous hentai studio Seven (since the director affiliated with the show is from Seven), it's insanely clear that there isn't any dedication, much less motivation for the production staff to AT LEAST do their jobs well. And what we got was an astounding mishmash of GOD-TIER trash animation and art that honestly, one second of it can burn our bird's eye views of horrible mediocrity. Gonzo, after their LEGIT trash anime (i.e. Conception), it's a studio where 99% trash always comes out without fail, not safe for Seven either, falling into the same category (i.e. King's Game the Animation).

Sound is alright, I'd say the average subpar of the series. While on all fronts every piece of music here is downright crap, there are only 1 or 2 decent ones in the flush of "pumping sports" music just to rile up the "experience" that is playing sports both casually and seriously.

Wrapping up the Spring season (where I should have stopped at Bem the 2019 reboot), this was such a colossal dereliction of people not taking their work seriously and just taking this project like a child's play. For God's sake, if this was a passion project, this could be anything BUT that.

What a reject of a show, and everyone SHOULD PASS. Don't ever take one foot into this. Believe me, I've tried for 3 months, and all I need for a cure is to watch All Out!! and hope for a Season 2.

It's my cringy moment of the week XD Sometimes i'm crying but laughing at the show... When i show some scenes too my friends and family, they're disturbed about how it did pass the screening test. I don't know about the animation house but i guess they're better off doing something else than sport or something because i feel bad for the CVs of some people with that Anime... :// Somehow, i wonder why am i doing this to myself, since it's so bad... I mean it's unrealistic, too much dialogue for what it is, as if you have time to chat during a match... Character dev-what?Stor-what?

And that animation is so stiff it looks like stamps moved a bit in photoshop... and badly at that.

Objectively speaking, not very good, especially the animation quality is pretty terrible. However. I was really entertained by how the rival school is going full on into LARPing territory with their shtick. You know how some anime will have "the prince of the school" or something? This school has a rugby club leader they treat like a prince (one guy would likely do anything for his sake, and frequently gets down on his knees to like, just give him a towel) and their club room has a large round table they all gather around, and it's located presumably in the Sistine chapel, if the decorationis anything to go by. It's ridiculous and over-the-top, I love it.

There's also a fascinating character that I cannot believe comes from this anime, and I know he'd get a bunch of fanart with angels and hell-like backgrounds if he was from a better anime.

Watch with a friend and prepare for something silly to have a good time with this.

I decided to look up rugby anime after i finished watching All Out! Which if you don't know is another rugby anime- i won't lie I've never played sports before and usually don't care much for them but i like watching anime sports- and Try Knights is well pretty bad compared to other sport anime- It doesn't explain anything about the sport, doesn't even show a full team of rugby players which from all out i know is supposed to be 15 players- it doesn't even explain the players position other then mentioning the fly half- nothing about the backs and fowards or wingers orflankers nothing- plus the scoring i believe is wrong and they don't show half of the plays or anything- like after they score a try i believe they are supposed to kick the ball into the goal yet they never show that part or that it even happens since the scores are only going up by what looks like 5s instead of what the actual rugby scores should be

(although like i said im not a sports player and I've never watched or played rugby other than watching all out which i am using that information so i might be incorrect on this so im sorry if i am wrong but at least all out explained rugby and hows its played unlike try knights which tells you nothing about the sport)

So i can only imagine how real rugby players feel if they wanted to watch an anime about their beloved sport. And not only that but most of the animation is absolutely horrible- i would never recommend this anime to anyone- matter fact i don't plan on even watching the rest of it- i gave the first 4 episodes a try thinking it might get better but it didn't
