Some anime this year impressed me. There are also some anime this year that made me wonder if the creators were high on something. Then, there’s Joshikausei. There’s an old phrase that you’ve probably heard of before: silence is golden. As a short anime without any dialogue, that’s what Joshikausei represents. The manga itself is also silent without dialogues. So now the real question comes, how would this show work? Was the author high when they made this? Not quite. It’s actually real simple. The show is about high school girls interacting with daily activities. An easy draw of the show is the character chemistry between thethree main girls – Mayumi, Momoko, and Shibumi. The show explores their lifestyle that reminds what normal people would do. Sometimes, characters are represented with fan service in the case of Momoko. The first episode is a testament of this with the suggestive leg shots plastered all over the place. But an important part is to see the character interactions. Joshikausei explores the limits of language and how characters communicate with their expressions. Their emotive performances combined with music carries the mood of each episode. Writing a series like this isn’t easy. For a manga with over 80 chapters of content, it’s not hard to see why. At the end of the day though, it works out just fine and dandy.

Joshikausei isn’t long and ran the risk of looking like a humorless joke. Embedded into the show is simple slice of life storytelling featuring a trio of girls. Every episode is only 3 minutes so it’s an easy way to pass time. The real question is if this silent anime is a golden treat for you. For me, it’s just so-so.

Dem thighs tho! Amirite? There’s a common misconception that silent films are vacuous works with minimal insights on the human condition. But this could not be further from the truth. Done correctly, the choreography of actors ‘tells’ a story through facial expressions, symbolism, and physical actions. The absence of dialogue, ironically, allows the viewer to focus with greater intent and awareness. Thus, enabling the audience to form a connection with the character(s) that they might not otherwise understand or empathize with. Yet it is paramount that the work has a recognizable theme that the viewer can identify; otherwise, the storybecomes a senseless barrage of foolishness.

Joshikausei falls in the latter camp, unfortunately. By placing Momoko in awkward, sexually suggestive positions, the show displays a preference to arouse the viewer. Which is acceptable, if those situations lead to effective comedy. But this is not the case. Perhaps the arbitrary actions of the characters aimed to force the viewer into laughter via the preposterous nature of the situations themselves. For this to be valid, however, the writers should have exhibited a greater degree of audaciousness. No risk, no reward.

At three minutes per episode, you may think Joshikausei is worth a watch (regardless of the quality). Let me tell you something: it is not.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Well this a waste of time. Studio Seven is one of the worst producers of "regular" anime because according to this database, it seems that they are only good at hentai shows. Things like King's game, Galaxy Tylor and now this thing Joshikausei I will be short with this one. If you want to watch an animated work where characters don't speak at all go watch some classic cartoons like Tom and Jerry, the Pink Panther or The Coyote and the Roadrunner at least those silent characters are still remember over 50 years instead of these waifus. Story Just 3 girls that for some reason can'tspeak at all but only make grunt sounds in daily life situations that should be funny, but are stupid. These skits are painful to watch and I am not exagerating with this, this show is 3 minutes but every single second feels like an eternity with this awful "story". It even feels like those Family Guy skits that drag the joke for way too much

Because someone resting and focusing so much on her thighs, getting pooped by birds, focusing on a snack falling on someone's legs, skating, having to run after getting wet because of the rain, a mother/sister doing exercise over one of the protagonist or doing these origami fights are funny according to Studio Seven and the creator of this manga and it is laughable to say manga when it is only drawings in different sections while I was "Reading" the source material.

Sound

Those voice actress had to be the luckiest girls to get paid for grunting. Heck even John Dimaggio saying "Rada Rada" as Schnitzel from Chowder constantly has more passion and feeling than these women saying "ha" "Eh" "mmmmmh" combined. Except until the end when suddenly the protagonist says "I'M HOME". Woah what a big plot twist and sorry for that spoiler. BTW The ending song is generic jpop crap.

Art

Typical Hentai shots, again Why does Studio Seven try so hard in doing these crappy non sexual shows when they are good in hentai according to many people? And also that Mosquito animation is one of the crappiest movements of an insect I have ever seen.

Enjoyment and Overall

It is crap as I said go watch some of the classic cartoons mentioned above if you want something funny and with non speaking characters from an animated show because this one tries to make you laugh but these shorts are worthless and will drain some of your time for no pay off.

Expecting a show which is quite literally about the characters not going through any dialogue throughout the whole show and expecting it not to be weird would be weird in itself. This anime is about a girls "everyday life" as a high school student. I would almost want to compare this to babies speaking to each other, or more so.. not speaking with each other just kind of doing and showing things with their hands. I usually found myself lost in what was actually going on even if it was something quite simple happening. I think the main reason for this is because of what most peoplewould be most used to.. Dialogue. So alright, this show tries something new that barely any other anime has tried before. So was it worth it?

Unless you're only here for the main characters thighs I'd say this is most definitely not a show for you. On the other hand if you are here for the thighs.... theeeeennnn... This probably still realistically isn't the perfect show, there are way better shows that would compliment your likes.

Story: 3/10

A generally quite basic and boring story, and in many cases things that makes no sense (the first episode most definitively).

Art 3/10

The art generally isn't too bad, nothing spectacular either, the animation is rigid and boring but generally achieves what it needs to.

Sound 2/10

The sound in this show (though there's a good reason for it) is generally quite bad. It makes a lot of sense if you were to look at it though and that's because there's no dialogue... go figure.

Character 2/10

It's hard to develop characters without dialogue. Basically. so a 2/10 is all I can give

Enjoyment 3/10

Being confused at what I'm watching generally isn't the greatest way to go when trying to make someone enjoy it, I myself couldn't enjoy it that much though it did. have some scenes that weren't absolutely awful.

Overall rating 2.6/10

(I'll have to put it on 3/10 because I can't put decimals obviously)

[The Quiet Girls] From the studio that brought you Rance 01: Hikari wo Motomete The Animation, Koikishi Purely☆Kiss The Animation, Baku Ane: Otouto Shibocchau zo! The Animation, and Real Eroge Situation! The Animation, comes Studio Seven's latest series entitled Joshi Kausei. STORY: It's a story about three “silent” high school girls and the random events that happen to them. You'll watch the girls get involved in some strange skits, such as riding a skateboard, playing with each other's thighs, be concerned about fortunes, and create origami in a family restaurant. And to spice things up, the girls are also involved in some risque situations like wearing wet clothesafter a rain shower, having a hand print near one's thigh, and planking over your sleeping daughter. Three-minutes of silent action. It doesn't get more exciting than this folks!

ART/ANIMATIONS:

Be entranced by the stunning plainness of its art and animations, you can appreciate the lack of details from its background art, the rigid movements of non-human objects, and the plain and uninteresting character designs. You can also contemplate as to why Studio Seven's other works, mainly hentai adaptations, appear more refined, animated, and well-produced, considering their previous history, this should be their specialty, unfortunately it doesn't show here.

SOUND:

Watch as the characters move their lips and speak dialogue, but alas, no dialogue is heard because every character live in a world of silence. Watch as the characters create various sound effects from squeaks, squeals, and cries to grunts, sighs, and moans, accompanied with many facial expressions, such as happiness, sadness, anger, embarrassment, shock, and concern. Hear multitudes of background music that successfully fits the mood and tone of the scenes in question. Hear a 30-second ending song called “Silent Days” that is accompanied with moving animations of the girls in different locations through images, playing with water guns, wearing school swimsuits, flying on a rainbow, and looking over the bridge.

CHARACTERS:

Meet our three protagonists: “delinquent” girl, glasses girl, and short-haired girl. “Delinquent” girl is beautiful and cute, has long, light brown hair, carefree, and somewhat unlucky. Glasses girl is calm, composed, and levelheaded, and has long, light blond hair. Short-haired girl acts childlike and is naive, and has short, black hair. Be impressed by the show's lack of character development, its lack of character personalities, and its lack of memorable characters.

ENJOYMENT:

So, sit down and watch as the time quietly goes by, and by the time episode 12 rolls around, you'll have forgotten what the previous episodes were about. But, that's okay, this series isn't suppose to be memorable, its a quick “cash-grab” for a studio whose strengths lies in hentai adaptations.

P.S: Our “delinquent” girl finally says one line of dialogue, and that's “I'm home!” What a fitting line for the end of this series.

Ugh, this show... Who thought this was a good idea? :/ One of my favourite short comedy anime is Morita-san wa Mukuchi, where the extremely shy protagonist doesn't speak a word during the whole two seasons and we can only hear her thoughts from time to time. It was a cute gimmick that fueled the lighthearted SoL comedy of that series and made me remember it despite the rather plain "cute girls doing cute things" formula - I'm sure many people would find it boring, but it was well-crafted and relaxing. Here, the silent cast is not a gimmick. It's a pointless hindrance that adds nothing ofvalue to the whole setup - there are obvious places where dialogue takes place, but we don't hear it. The gags are mostly piss-poor and don't utilize the lack of dialogue in any interesting way. Fanservice is weird and obnoxious, with the opening episode (!) missing the mark in a particularly spectacular manner. Characters are boring cliches. Not even the visuals or the ending song are particularly appealing (and that also is very important in making these kinds of shorts memorable).

There's nothing even remotely interesting or memorable here, and the humour doesn't land more often than not. I've seen worse shows, but I'm not sure I ever saw one this pointless - truly a waste of time.

This is a collection of three-minutes long vignettes of a certain high school girl’s life. The gimmick is that there are no dialogues, so it’s basically pantomime. The gimmick works. That’s it. 9/10. No, really. The situations presented are far from mundane, so the plot actually keeps you engaged. The characters express more personality than 90% of the anime casts. There are backstories, twists and deepest lore. The art and music are fine. Fun things are fun. Dixi. Incidentally, the first episode is about anime thighs. It’s not representative of the content and exists solely as pleb filter (just kidding, it’s actually the opposite - an appealto the degenerate demographic which is like the main group of people that actually buys the BDs in Japan). Anyway, the point is this is not a gravure series, so there is no fuel for the “ironic weeb” act, the only enjoyment will come from the show actually being good.

Do you have 40 minutes to spare? Go watch something else. I was hesitant to continue after the first episode and I should've stopped then but part of me was hoping it really couldn't be that bad. I usually don't dislike what I set out to watch but man this show was incredibly boring. A little sad to say but don't waste your time, you'll just be disappointed. There isn't really any story, the art is decent but the characters are very bland -maybe it's because they don't speak, you dont really get an impression of their type of character. Would've probably disliked it lessif the characters actually spoke. Can't say it made me want to read the manga.

Ok, so for an anime such as this to only run for 3 minutes , was......let's jaz say a breath of fresh air, since it ain't much that we get to see something unique , from the day of silent movies of the 1900's. Here, there isn't much dialog nor any monologue, jaz actions, and the sounds you here were nothing more than just hums and chuckles.................................................................................. ......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................., It was nice that the facial expression and the action were the ones doing the talking and one can basically get it from start to finish. Of course we still can't deny that the girls here servesas the usual eyecandy around here , most especially Momoko whom has the body and a lotta upskirting that provide us audience that ecchi thing , but not as brazen as the manga version, were one would see a lotta panty flashes, Characterwise, them girls were the usual girly bunch found in any josei genre, but then again that was something that can be forgiven cu'z of the simplicity of their roles which basically fits well with this kind of dialogless anime/manga, so without any further adieu, here were my ratings:

Story-fair 6: Cu'z it was a cliche josei genre.

Art-Good 7: Ok so there was still that Momoko and Shibumi eyecandy...btw , Mayumi is pretty much dorky in her former school uniform. But then again, the facial expression and actions were the ones that does all the talking in which original creator, Wakai, Ken has brought to the table.

Character- Decent 4: Since, the characters role were jaz as cliche as any josie genre.

Enjoyment- Decent 4: It wasn't totally boring but my interest with this anime shifts back and forth as to how I enjoy this anime.

Overall- Great 9: Cu;z I wasn't always we get to to see something unique as this.

Btw: If you wanna see some Momoko's uncensored panty flash jaz go over the manga.

The adaptation no one asked for. This in an anime with no dialogue - like in the manga. Even though each episode only lasts three minutes, i do not recommend wasting your time on it. Joshikausei is supposed to be a light comedy manga with a kind of slice of life of an extravagant high school girl. It doesn t work at all in this adaptation, there is nothing funny at all. I don t understand what they were trying to do but the situations are not funny, just awkward and sometimes stupid. Also some scenes are really close to soft porn or at least suggest eroticthemes. That s really disturbing for an anime supposed to be cute about a young girl.

There is no story. You don t get to know who are the characters. However they constantly moan since they don t speak and it s unbearable. It was less weird that the characters don t speak in the manga since you can t hear anything.

The art is okay for this kind of anime. But it doesn t add any kind of enjoyment to this show.

What can i say? this anime is useless. Read the manga instead, it is cute.

Story : 1/10 (there is none, and the characters don t talk)

Art : 5/10

Sound : 2/10 (the constant moaning of the characters is unbearable)

Characters : 1/10

Enjoyment : 2/10

Overall : 2/10

Three girls live their daily lives. You have the cute one, the smart but goofy one and the cocky one. The whole concept of the anime is that nobody talks, so all the anime comes from the visuals. The run time of each episode is three minutes and you can finish this series in half an hour. Here is where most people would say that this anime does a mediocre job and just move on with their lives. But for me, I just want to take the time to tell you why I like this anime. We live in an anime landscape that is tougher then everbefore. Anime try to one up eachother in quality, popularity of certain anime has boiled down to which has the most stupid title and/or premise, japanese animators get barely paid for their hard work, and with all of this happening time moves on with new series coming out every quarter.

This all makes you forget the little things in life. And Joshikousai reminded me of those little things. Like having goofy exchanges or having fun with just some paper. There are more things then just the best things or the worst things.

This anime won't change your life. This anime may not even be funny to you. This anime may even waste your time, but I have a soft spot for this anime. Watch it if you just want to take a break from all crazy things that are happening now.

In spring 2019, Joshikausei received a 12 episode anime adaptation by Studio Seven. As a fan of the manga, I decided to give it a watch. As someone who was used to my favourite manga receiving terrible adaptations, I knew what I was in for. The Joshikausei anime adaptation is poorly animated, has generic music, with lacklustre designs and energy. You'd think that a show without words would do all it can with the musical score to retain our attention and complement the scene. However, the music in Joshikausei sounds like minimum-effort trash, just on-par with the rest of the adaptation. The charm and adventureof the manga is completely lost. Studio Seven haven't made anything even remotely interesting besides 'I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying', which was probably just a fluke on their part because everything else they are involved with looks like garbage. The adaptation looks ugly and rushed, the only thing I am thankful for is that the episodes are short and to the point with no mucking around. I only really needed to see the first episode and a couple minutes into the second episode, to see that this wasn't worth my time.

My only hope is that this adaptation gets people to check out the source material. If Joshikausei anime looks interesting to you on any level check out the manga, its comfy, fun and a lot better than this poor excuse of an adaptation.

(2/10) ❤ ❤

What the hell did I just watch? And why the hell did I watch it? Throughout this, I just kept telling myself that it's only 3 minutes per episode so I may as well watch the rest. I think I was trying to figure out why some people scored this at a 7/8 & 9. I don't think I will ever figure out what those people saw in this show. This has to be one of the dumbest, mind numbingly ridiculous shows I have ever watched. I mean...WTF? Story: 1 - Again...Wtf? So this is show about…well, to be honest I’m not quite sure what it’s really about. Istill haven’t figured out the purpose or meaning of the show or it’s characters. The most likely and most reasonable assumption would be, that there simply isn’t one. To sum it up “It Is, What It Is” & you have no idea how much I hate that saying, but I can’t help but feel that this ridiculous saying and this ridiculous anime, were made for each other.

The show is episodic. There is no overall story/plot, no direction and nothing interesting happens. Its just a series of random events. Oh, and there’s no dialogue, it’s classed as a silent anime.

3 girls go about their day together and wind up in some unusual and unrealistic predicaments. The girls who are meant to be high school students are seriously immature, they behave like little kids. Is this supposed to be cute?

The episodes are packed with the worst attempts at fan service ever. I mean there is nothing remotely good about the fan service, I can't even say is so bad that it's good, because it simply isn't. It's all just very peculiar and totally absurd. I mean the first episode is all focused on a thigh fetish and other weird girl on girl flirting, I have nothing against girls flirting with each other, but in this shows case, there is nothing sexy about it. It’s just weird.

The girls are all so immature in their personalities, that they innocently land themselves in provocative predicaments as a consequence of their stupid behaviour.

Well the studio aimed for sexually provocative but ended up with a mix of weird & unflatteringly lame.

Sound: 1 - I’m lost for words…Just as this anime was.

What can I say, there isn’t much! There isn't a dialogue, this is meant to be a silent anime. However, it does have the characters laugh out loud and make strange god-awful noises to express themselves. What I found really odd is, their mouths still move in some episodes, but there’s no sound. I mean WHY? Did they animate the mouths accidently?

Barring a few very childish girly giggles and squeaks and other weird expressive noises, their isn’t any voice acting. Although, if there were, it would probably have been painful to listen to. If the standards I’ve seen so far in every other category are anything to go by. The music is annoying too.

Art: 2 (I’m being nice) – Terrible, Though it was the better of all the categories, but only just!

The art was lame and unimaginative. The expressiveness was void and about as useful as the silent dialogue. Nothing good to say, it was pure garbage. If you going to make a anime without dialogue, the art has to be at a level where it is expressive in itself, it has to paint a picture & do the talking. The art should have been capable of communicating to the audience. It didn’t do a thing!

I also want to note that the art lacked detail, For Example: The facial expressions were weak and it was difficult to differentiate which emotion they were supposed to be portraying.

The characters and art overall looked like the illustration team had had a few too many the night before and due to this, had thrown in the towel, then rushed and crammed in the work at the last minute.

Characters: 1 – They need rehab!

Awful!. The characters are all childish and irritating, they’re supposed to be high school students for goodness sake, so why do the animators to have them acting like elementary school kids (primary school)??? The behaviours of these characters are not remotely normal.

Its like they’re all trippin on some serious Psychedelic drugs (hence the need for rehab).

Enjoyment: 1 – Need I say anymore?

I think it would be in poor taste to pull this anime to pieces anymore than I already have. What can I say… I’m nice like that! 😜 .

Overall 1 (Because it’s the lowest I am able to score it)

Remember, every minute you spend watching this anime, is a minute you can never get back. Ive wasted 30 minutes of my life! Life is precious! Learn from my mistake!

** On a separate note...The manga apparently has no dialogue either. How does one read a manga with no dialogue? Isn’t it just a picture book?

A decent concept with a poor execution. I gotta commend the creators for doing something unique and original in an industry flooded with a lack of creativity, but it really just doesn't work. There isn't a terribly lot to say about this anime; everyone unanimously agrees that this show was just the definition of "meh", and one of the weakest releases of the season. I stuck with it for the whole 12 episodes just to see if there's any hidden gems in there, but there really isn't. In the end, I would not recommend watching this anime, but the synopsis is worth a read as aconcept. Maybe someone can do it better in the future, or maybe it was just meant to remain as a manga.

I still do not know why I watched it. Maybe because it's a 3-minute anime? I do not know, I did not expect too much from the anime, but it was worse than I imagined, and it's not because the characters do not stink, it's due to the fact that it's annoying, if I had not been together for a week, never that I could see the 12 episodes in a row, the anime is quite episodic, the design of the characters and the scenarios is quite generic, the characters have no charisma, songs and sound design that should compensate for the lack of voice(besides, of course, the "sounds" that the dubbers did) were disappointing, the only thing that can be praised here, are the voice actors who tried their best to give life to the characters.

Joshikausei is about the daily lives of three girls and silent hijinks ensues... An anime short having no dialogue can either be a waste of time, or like the early adopters of comedy can work...to a certain extent and Joshikausei was... Well it was ok, it was ALMOST a time waster if not for the quick 3 minute length and much like how sometimes comedy doesn't need to explain the joke, well if characters never speak besides grunting or noises and you still get the visual joke, it's doing "something" right. Well from what the characters do with their actions you know how the characters personality are, stereotypicalsure, from Momoko Futo voiced by Rika Tachibana, the chaos factor and troublemaker of the group, Mayumi Furui voiced by Yurika Kubo as the shy type and Shibumi Shibusawa voiced by Tomomi Mineuchi as the voice...well in this case person of reason but also a slight perv as well.

Production-wise, the animation done by Seven was ok in all respects, typical for such an anime short but the animation does get fanservicey which might have given off a bad first impression as a result and the character designs and backgrounding was ok. Nonetheless, the animation overall was ok...just ok. Well might as well get this out of the way but the voice acting, well since this anime short is silent...was there even a need for the seiyuu's?...well if want your characters to make noises then...uhhh...ok.

Joshikausei isn't a horrible concept for a comedy anime short, emphasis on "anime short" and alot of the situations the three main characters go through does have some funny moments from time to time and sometimes they go straight out fanservice route, which puts a detriment to LA's argument but nonetheless Joshikausei isn't harmful, it's bite sized, almost Charlie Chaplin-like comedy.

Anime can be very experimental, most of the time going into some weird yet ambitious premises, but sometimes one little detail can either derail the premise, or it can make an anime and Joshikausei as simple as being "silent" and being an anime short at that, well it's not groundbreaking but it does it's job.

So everything is dependent on perspective. This is a 3-min/episode over 12 in total so if push came to shove, and you have an hour spare, could do worse! 3 JKs go about their daily lives together and it's actually pretty charming - as they don't talk at all. The art is surprisingly good for such little screen time, the music is also decent and seeing as there is no talking between the 3 girls it carries the load well enough. Pretty interesting for a non-speaking show, worth investigating and seeing as it's short won't interfere with anything else. EDIT - ironically the review is asking for meto write a longer review, so I'm going to try and pad it out in an extended opening and closing sequence. Look! Cute girls running and being happy! Enough words?

Honestly, I wasn't expecting much, especially with most shows this season being overshadowed by OPM S2, Isekai 4, Demon Slayer, and Carole & Tuesday. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed with this. The art is pretty good, albeit a bit sexual for a silent tv show like this. 8/10, not really much to say there. The story is just your average sitcom, not amazing, but not a flop, either. The situations are different enough to make it not boring, and the reactions to the situations are honestly pretty funny. 7/10 The sound, the sound, the sound. The sound is what's most important in a tv show with0 dialogue, and this hit perfectly, in my opinion. It captures the mood of each situation quite well, and the music itself is really frickin good. 10/10 there

Characters are meh, regular tropes, not much to say about this either, but they're designed pretty well. 8/10

I enjoy watching this, as it's a very nice change of pace with all the action stuff this season. 8/10

Overall, pretty good show, this is my first review so I don't really know how to write one well. I'd rate 8/10

I am not sure what other reviewers were expecting from this show and I don't know why everyone decided this was the show to shit on for the season. It's a 3 min ep. 12 ep. series based around the gimmick that no one speaks. At 3 min. a pop the time investment is incredibly small. You can watch the whole series in less than an hour and each episode is charming to some degree. Would i recommend it? IDK It's a pretty pointless show, but it was a good little snack to have every week. And that's all it was ever meant to be.If you have a short road trip or flight or train ride, you could kill time with this show.

There’s not much to see here. That’s a pretty good way to sum up this show. This is a show about three high school girls going about their lives, but with zero dialogue. Just sound effects, music, and any sounds the girls might make. Instead of using dialogue to tell each episode’s story, their actions, expressions, and sounds tell the story. It’s an interesting concept, but pretty strange too. If you’re in the mood for cute scenes with high school girls, this show has a couple episodes of just that, but there are also episodes filled with fanservice, which was a real surprise when I picked it up,but I'm not complaining. Don’t expect anything super lewd though, just some close up’s of a character's thighs and butt. It never goes pass that, but at least you get a great view in multiple episodes.

For what this show is, it’s not bad, just okay. You’re not going to get anything super deep or complicated in this show, just 3ish minutes of cute girls doing cute things together, which is nice and all, but this would’ve been better with dialogue. Having the characters instead make mumbling sounds to provide some kind of communication between them is an odd choice.

Overall, this show is a 6/10. It could’ve been done better, but what we do have isn't completely bad either. It’s okay. Not a show I plan on rewatching anytime soon, but I enjoyed the fanservicey scenes, plus it had it’s cute moments, and kept me entertained for a bit.
