Reviews for Saekano the Movie: Finale
Back to AnimeI have very complex feelings for this movie. I had high expectations because I love both seasons of the TV anime, and honestly, I think I would have preferred a 3rd season over this movie. The animation is very good and what one would expect for a movie production, and there are plenty of Easter eggs for you to spot in various scenes. But I feel that aside from Eriri, all of the other characters aren't given the development and growth they deserve. It's unfortunate that even though Michiru and Izumi get relatively more screen time, their existence isn't very important. There are both scenes meant to beheartwarming and heart-wrenching, but everything gets rushed along due to the time constraints and the impact isn't as strong as one would hope.
It is an ending to the series, but was it the best ending? I personally don't think so.
Also, when you watch this, be sure to watch past the credits.
Saw this movie today at a fan screening and I was not disappointed. In fact, I liked it enough to spend my first review writing about it. If I were to describe this movie in a few words, it'd be sweet and satisfying. The heavy focus on romance is what made it so much more satisfying to watch than the previous 2 seasons. The animation, as expected, was great. Clean and high quality, a slight step above its already well-animated prequels. Comedic scenes were also scattered throughout the movie and funny to watch. The story was well-executed. Although this anime is known for its melodrama, Ifeel that the plot was nothing too extravagant. The romantic development was simple and clear cut. I really liked the empathy and understanding between the MC and best girl, which gave a really different form of romantic entertainment unlike the usual misunderstandings in romance anime.
All in all, it was immensely satisfying to watch its conclusive ending. If you've watched the preceding 2 seasons, I'd highly recommend that you watch this movie. I'd personally gave it an 8.5, but I'm sure it'd definitely be worth a watch for anyone else. Oh and remember to stay after the credits!
The end story is terrible. Believe the author is forcing the unrealistic loveline between MC and the boring GF while she was not the best girl out of 3 possible romance candidate. The art style is decent. Senpai is clearly the best girl and also carries the most influence on MC's character and career development. MC and the boring GF had no romantic feeing towards one another for an entire 2 seasons. Somehow author force the romance towards the boring heroin in the last arc which is the major let down for its ending. I believe most people would have love it more should the MCends up with the Senpai.
You can say I have bad taste in anime or that I'm simply following another persons preference. To be honest, I really don't care. This movie was great and that's all I have to say. Yes, I'm aware of the things that they could've made way better but in a good anime, there's either an ending that satisfies you, confuses you, or pisses you off. None of these three are bad but that depends on your "taste" in anime. Me personally, it made me really happy. The ending was just perfect (before end credits), and the fact that they came back to where it allstarted brought tears in my eyes.
Only reason why I didn't give this a 10 is because of the disrespect on Utaha, who's supposedly one of the main characters. Not only was her screen time limited but the lack of her development as one of the main characters bothered me. On the other hand, Eriri was given what she deserved with a "proper" goodbye to her "what could've been relationship" with Tomoya.
The actual ending (after credits) hit me right in the heart, I was brought back to reality after seeing what could've been the end of their relationship and their status as a couple after giving up on their dreams. Later then being reunited with all the members was just the cherry on top of the movie, it really couldn't have been any better than that.
So if anything, don't drop the series, trust.
This is a movie, which means it can only holds one plot. And that's may disappoints some people, but the hardcore Otaku fans will enjoy this regardless the fact the main subject isn't about comicet. Indeed, in this movie we finally get what was missing in the series. And that's all about feelings, for a 3D girl. The prefect girl, for an Otaku. The animation and the art was fantastic in all seasons just like in this Movie. The sound and music was great. And we get a group of lovely girls, well writen and designed. I just want to say thank youfor all the people who worked on this show. It was an interesting journey for sure.
And finally.
The boring girlfriend, rasied her boring boyfriend.
If there was anything they could've done wrong, this would be perfect. They plot was mid, the art was nothing special and there was basically no important character development. Going back to seasons 1 and 2 neigther Utaha or Eriri never in a million years would have let Tomoya go. Then suddenly in the movie they just want Tomoya to pick Megumi. This veers so far off of the series that it should be thrown into a sewer and stompped on. Overall, this is garbage and a waste of the good anime that this once was, its very overated and i cried because suddenly Megumimade up with Tomoya in 5 seconds and they kissed after a huge dissagreement. Plus at the very end when they were adults, Utaha was ugly and Iori looked like a stoner for no reason.
One thing i can praise is the art wich is Decent
*SPOILERS* If you've seen season 2 and you liked it, then you can skip my review, because I'm going to complain about the new direction that saekano took after episode 9. Now you may be wondering what exactly happened in episode 9 to force me to write a review for the first time in my life. I will cover it briefly since you need to understand why I think the movie is the most mid thing ever, or even worse. So, while I agree that both Eriri and Utaha needed to be in an environment where they can grow faster and being with Fields Chronicles was the bestdecision for them, just ditching Tomoya like that was completely out of line. Especially for Utaha, who, following her dere tropes, is supposed to be able to die for her love. Well screw logic, I think the author said.
Which brings us to the movie, which has the same flaws. As in season 2 after ep 9, the author wanted to do everything very seriously, like trying too hard to squeeze a tear even though until then it was a relatively cheap comedy harem.
This movie is as shallow as it gets from the plot to the characters to the melodrama. It gives you the impression that they try to build on the story and develop the characters but all they do is try to give random harem moments with some melodrama sprinkled in ... sounds like a masterpiece at work here. The fact that he chooses to leave Kato behind crying in order to 'save' the game developed by Eriri and Utaha, even though he has feelings for her, just doesn't make any sense. "But hey, it's a harem, he is supposed to chase after every girl, it's normal to be unrealistic". Yes, you are partially right, but after you try to sell me emotional donuts filled with drama you can't really come and make unrealistic harem twists. This is inconsistency with the plot and writing style (funny that the author talks about it in the show lol). And let's not forget that when he comes back, Katou almoust instantly forgives him and they kiss.
After the credits, you get to see more. They are 'adults' now, or at least that's what the author is trying to make you believe. They whine and bitch about stupid shit they shouldn’t be whining and bitching about anymore, and they do so all whilst acting like the petty elements of their lives are actually complex and mature. Also, all the girls still like him, because why not.
TLDR: The art and sound is great, the story is as bad as it gets. 5/10
First I want to say a big thank you to the producers, development studio, and narrators who created this story, Saekano Movie. I was very happily surprised and my feeling somehow felt that this was a masterpiece that I had been waiting for, yeah, maybe about 3 to 4 years I waited until Saekano Fine finally aired on the screen or maybe your favorite cinema. The thing that I really like about this Anime is from the first anime series "Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend" you the audience will be escorted by many scenarios that are fun, soothing, funny, or strange, as well asvery deep feelings for the main character in this anime series itself. I will not tell you how the main character struggles in finding his love story, how did all this begin until the end? I will return it to you yourself who determines through what you will see or watch later. If you want to understand this Anime, try to watch it in stages starting from the first season, the second season, and the last is the film.
Once again, I thank you very much for your great work to make this masterpiece, this means a lot to me because this anime also gives me a lot of information and descriptions of things that I may not know or things that make me very interested.
For those of you who haven't watched the Saekano Movie, you should try to watch and feel how the mixed feelings and actions of the players in it produce an extraordinary ending, or maybe in my understanding, it is "The Best Ending", which is expected for those who following the story of Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend from the beginning until the story ends. Love you too Katou Megumi and Aki Tomoya for being the unique and best life partner.
SHORT SUMMARY: MAINSTREAM, CRINGEY, ANKWARD BUT I LOVE IT. *Warning spoilers ahead* Saekano's story is as mainstream as it gets. You have your typical harem male protagonist where he tries his best to help out all the girls in his harem while also making things work out for him. Then a big conflict arises, characters fight, they make up and he falls in love with a girl in his harem. Its super mainstream and cringey at times but for me that is all part of Saekano's charm. Especially if you're watching it from an otaku's perspective like Tomoya. What separates Saekano from your average storyis its charming characters especially the "Main Heroine", Katou Megumi. Since the start of the series, Megumi never fit into any character stereotype. In fact, she even looks and act like a side character sometimes. Even though she was part of Tomoya's circle she never seemed jealous of the other girls and was a true "boring girlfriend" but she did everything for Tomoya like cheering him up even though they were not close as classmates, understanding his yapping and even learning how to program and script just so Tomoya can achieve his dreams. It made me realize that Megumi really loved Tomoya way before they both even took notice of it.
And this movie was the perfect epilogue to their story. Some stories end when the MCs get in a relationship but Saekano made sure that we see it until the end. The end where they grow up but are still together which is for me the icing on top. Yes, it might seemed rushed but it is due to the anime being a movie. Besides, the plot development was already fleshed out in the first two seasons and I liked it better that they focused more heavily on the romance here rather than just bringing out mainstream plot points. Also seeing Megumi breaking out of her own shell and letting others understand her feelings was very moving. It also provided a conclusion to Eriri's feeling towards Tomoya. Some people may argue that Utaha was not given a proper conclusion but for me it already occured in the previous season when Tomoya didn't go with her route on their game. Nevertheless, I was a great movie and my personal favorite movie this year. Its a sweet love letter to those Megumi fans but a bittersweet one for those Eriri and Utaha fans. But, let's be honest we all knew that this was Megumi's show from the get go.
You can say that I'm biased but this is what I truly felt for the series and this satisfying epilogue.
I can only wish for one last episode where Megumi and Tomoya go for a real date not bound by being circle members.
#TeamMegumi
This is the best as I really expected, because the TV series is also very guaranteed Really, the story is shocking, very unpredictable in all aspects, I think this is the best I don't know what to say because maybe this is not just good but the work of the gods is very god I saw a slice from Instagram that soon I will be waiting and waiting and finally my friend told me that he had watched me immediately looking for the work of gods, this is no doubt the work of gods From the visuals and graphics alone it can be seen that this isthe work of a god and the movements of the characters are very smooth. The opening is very good. This is a romantic comedy that is so godly that not even gods can match this
I have always been waiting for this movie since this movie has aired in Japanese theaters since then I have been waiting for Blu-ray, a real effort that is not in vain to wait for this god's work
so you guys have to watch this definitely has to be the best story of Fumiaki Maruto san

If you do not want to spoil the impression of the series, then it is better not to watch this movie. I'll start with the pros: the drawing is not bad, without jambs, but also nothing impressive. That's it, there are no more pluses. The following genres are listed: Harem, Comedy, Romance, Ecchi, School. Harem: here we have a denouement, gg admits gg and they have lava-lava, the rest suffer. Everything is like in a third-rate harem, they do not even try to surprise you with anything. Comedy: even jokes about a hedgehog are funnier, and the smile was caused only by the scene after the credits (yes, this story should have ended), which, unfortunately, turned out to be a fake.
Romance: romance we have here for junior high school students, everything looks so stupid and unnatural that you can throw up without any shame.
Ecchi: What? Where? maybe then the ecchi hidden in the 25-th frame? In short, ecchi here does not even smell (movie for junior high school students, do not forget).
School: except for the mention of the circle and the heroes of junior high school students (in mind and behavior), there is no school here anymore.
Total: the plot is so dull that you can't wait to see when it's all over. GG rag furiously yelling and asking for forgiveness, heroine acting like a complete scum, and it does not bother anyone. The rest of the characters are paid attention only for show. Don't watch this shit, don't waste your time. I apologize for my English, the auto-translator works
First of all: my main language isn't english, so be kind to me. Let's say this to me, this movie is a great delusion, in this movie we take all we have seen until now and we rip away all the good things. The sentimental scenes, the comical scenes, the teasing scenes... all removed, the story goes all on a sterile, boring anime on the most boring parts of "how to realize a visual novel... Nearly 2 hours of movie that if it was half lasted... maybe it would be better. The only parts of this movie are the beginning but more than anything else the end, in theend we find what we were used to in the series.
I mean this isn't a bad movie it's seeable, but it doesn't go beyond the sufficiency and I have written down this because... I really can't understand all the high votes it has received, really...
"Did I become the main heroine you always wanted? Not for an audience, but for one person." I had a lot of fun watching the first two seasons of this anime. They were great after all. But for the movie, I have to say that it's the only one that leaves me astounded and ends up being one of my favourite. As a reminder, this review contains major spoilers so I highly suggest you watch the movie first before flipping through the pages. STORY [9/10] This movie is a continuation from the second season, so you will need to watch the second season beforehand. Anyway, it startswith the timeline when Blessing Software is one step away from completing the second project, which is a dating sim game called ‘How To Raise A Boring Girlfriend’. Tomoya has to write a script for the last route, the main heroine route. While he’s at it, he has to face obstacles here and there. He’s asking Megumi for her help in scouting a new location on Saturday, but it turns out that Megumi’s birthday is on the same date. At the end of the day, they agreed to meet up at that place. Megumi is waiting at the agreed place, and suddenly she receives a call from Tomoya, saying he’s not going to come because of a ‘life or death’ situation. The famous producer, and also the leader of the circle in which Eriri and Utaha is staying, Akane, is lying on the hospital’s bed. Turns out that she’s diagnosed with a stroke, so she has to be there for one month to recover. This is surely a huge problem for both Eriri and Utaha, as they can’t progress without a leader. They come up with a solution, and ask Tomoya to be their leader for a while. In order to pay Tomoya’s favor, they both have to agree on supporting him to chase his dreams with the main heroine, Megumi. It’s hard for them to know that they’re not the ones that he chose, but what else can they do? Tomoya goes along with him being the leader, leaving his circle behind in the meantime. Megumi knows this and she’s incensed by the fact that Tomoya has more concern for Eriri's circle than for their own circle. Long story short, Megumi forgives Tomoya instantly after he returns. They kissed after that, and dated each other.
I really like how well the plot is in this movie. The development of the characters, breathtaking dramas, and glamorous romance between two individuals are aspects that make this movie so entertaining to watch. Also, I really like how this movie mainly focuses on the relationship of Tomoya and Megumi, not on the game or other characters. For the story, I’m giving it a score of nine with no doubt.
ART [9/10]
As for the art of this movie, I think that it’s overall the refined version of the first two seasons. Well, I did expect it from the beginning as the series and the movie were made by a different studio, one is CloverWorks, and the other one is A1 Pictures. Anyway, I really like the art in this movie. It’s not the best, but it’s on par with famous titles like Your Name for example, as expected from a studio that made Wonder Egg Priority and Horimiya. A solid nine overall!
SOUND [8/10]
For the sound aspect of this movie, I have to say that it’s decent. It’s not as good as other anime titles, but I enjoyed watching it anyway. The voice actors, soundtracks, openings and endings are perfectly fine together. For this section, I’m giving it an eight!
CHARACTERS [10/10]
I’m not biased or anything, but I have to say that this anime has one of the most outstanding characters I’ve ever seen. They all have different characters but they’re still unique in their own way. The progression of each character is very well presented. Also, each of them has their own spotlight, so this anime is not only focused on the relationship of Tomoya with one individual. On top of that, most of the girls in this anime are waifu materials, so pick one as you please. You can choose one of these characters: A cold, normal, expressionless girl but caring named Megumi, a tsundere childhood friend named Eriri, or a harsh but appealing senpai named Utaha. The things mentioned above are the reasons I’m giving this movie a perfect score of ten.
ENJOYMENT [9/10]
There’s nothing to talk about in this section. This movie is a very enjoyable piece to watch and it will be worth every second of your time.
Overall, I really like this movie as a whole. It’s very fun and wholesome. The superb plot, marvelous art, fine sound, and amazing characters are aspects that make this movie one step away from being perfect. Also, the dramas here are spectacular and breathtaking. For your information, I’m not into harem romance, but I feel like this anime is different in a very good way. With that being said, I recommend all of you to watch this movie as soon as you finish watching the series!
Note: There's an extra scene at the end of the movie after the credit scene. I almsot had a heart attack fr. Anyway, just watch it yourself!
for the animation, it's so cool. I think the opening was used motion graphic or 3d movement that the first time i see that thing in anime. I love the sound design, left and right is very pronounced. The story is presented very well, some scenes can be identified without further explanation. the feelings used are also very emotional. sad, annoyed, passionate, happy, everyone can satisfy the heart when watching. the after story given is also quite good. we can find out how their lives as adults, their circle that has become a company. The intimacy of Tomoya and Megumi which is even more attractive eventhough I don't know they are married or still dating.
after watching this i feel very satisfied. there has never been an anime or manga that made me like this. thank you to all the staff who created and worked on every process of this anime.
*btw sorry if some words or sentence are wrong
Overall this was a great finale to Saekano. I loved the both previous seasons and this was such a great movie finale that I'm even going spend my first ever review on it. Animation was great like before, romance was much better because they decided to have an even heavier focus on it during this movie and the story itself was really well executed. My only real complain was the cut on the screentime for some of the characters in the previous two seasons. Utaha especially didn't really have any screentime during this movie and there wasn't really any development. I absolutely loved the ending after the credits,it made me confused at first but then I got really happy and I see it as a perfect ending for this show.
If you liked the previous two seasons, you're most likely going to like/love this movie a lot.
Damn. Just found out me and Utaha share the same birthday!!! WOO This anime portrayed the Romcom theme really well. It had its romantic aspects as well as its heart clenching and funny moments, I loved how there were so many references to other animes, like the SAO figures in Tomoya's room. The anime also foreshadows the winner quite well, with the title being "how to raise a boring girlfriend" referencing to Kato's personality, as well as Kato being the main heroine in the game they produced. Thank god that the author made spin-offs where Utaha and Eriri won, can't wait to read those! Ngl the scriptUtaha wrote at the end made my heart skip a few beats, but all is good cause when Kato is chopping up the veggies shes wearing a ring so... IT'S OFFICIAL!!!!
A very nice and fitting ending I would say. I enjoyed how the characters develop and felt that nothing was out of place. Someone who enjoyed Saekano, especially S2, would most likely enjoy the movie as well. The ending wrapped up the series quite well and left me satisfied.
Definitely recommend this and I advise you to not drop it.
P.S. There's a rlly nice post credit scene
It was Megumi's route all along?...it always has been. Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata Fine's movie more or less starts us straight after the events of the second season of the anime series with Tomoya's circle continuing with making their game for Winter Comiket whilst Eriri and Utaha has started working on Field Chronicles in a different company. So right off the bat LA will say that the movie has all the trademarks of Saenai Heroine's "meta" storytelling in mirroring the events of Tomoya's writers block in writing the "main heroine's plot' to the romance route to Megumi from everything from the trials and tribulations Tomoya andMegumi encounters.
Character-wise, the movie not only fleshed out the majority of the characters from the second season but made them way more likable characters namely Akane Kousaka, the person whole "stole" Eriri and Utaha off Tomoya's circle, though Akane is the biggest example due to her weight in the plot and how she factors into almost everyone involved. Though the second season saw her as the insanely strict busybody, we still see that here but in a bigger perspective whilst also being something of a mentor to Tomoya with his scripts. we do see latter that Akane means well to Tomoya let alone some her setting in motion events that happened in previous seasons at that. To that end, Eriri and Utaha gets their just dues with this movie, due to the massive *ahem* "debate" that occurred during the second season that Akane's proposal to them and everything, the movie rectified it all in more ways than one and more or less "cleansing" that "*ahem* ♭ taste off.
Ok before LA talks about Tomoya and Megumi's relationship, LA does wanna talk about LA own internal waifu wars with this series, as LA was an avid Utaha fan and Utaha got LA into the series, Utaha being the seductress and senpai type only elevated her to best girl and it did kinda broke LA heart when she started working for Akane and betraying Tomoya...though uhhh the kiss at the end of the second season made up for it, but nonetheless her actions were kinda justified and made it solidified here. So with that Utaha history out of the way, this movie IS Megumi's route and because of that, LA wasn't exactly the best fan of Megumi as Utaha already had the position of best girl and with her maturing in this movie to being the one into being the voice of reason for Eriri and like Utaha says at the start of this movie that their now bit players to the real plot, LA could still get behind this. Utaha is best girl still in LA's eyes but this is Megumi's route and how it worked out, LA still absolutely agrees with the outcome the movie went with.
Now as for Eriri, well she got the development she needed to finally move past being "the childhood friend" as character development which worked out for her which was great and finally Michiru was probably being the support to both Tomoya and Megumi in many ways through this movie, she didn't do much, much like in the anime series besides her own "arc" but with how things were going between Tomoya and Megumi that was kinda expected.
Now one more thing before LA actually goes into Tomoya and Megumi's relationship and that would be that Izumi and Iori Hashima as character probably got the least development from the movie as a whole due the massive amount of focus towards Tomoya, Megumi, Eriri and Utaha's resolutions thus much like Michiru, they became supports with little fleshing out of character development and the such, kinda to the point MICHIRU got more development with what little even she gotten.
Ok, so onto Tomoya and Megumi's relationship and it quite the unique one, one in which probably got alot of people into the serie sin the first place and really it's unique in that yes, the script of the game Tomoya is making mirrors that of their own relationship but we more or less got to see Megumi's true personality coming into focus with this movie, something that was shown a little bit during the second season but the movie really did flesh out Megumi as a character as the not so "pure maiden with a sense of wit" character but as something else that made her alot more human in that ways, especially when the trials and tribulations of the Akane incident within the movie starts up and we get to see Megumi opening up to her true feelings as subtle or not she portrays it. It made her likable oddly enough as being more human, yes Utaha is still best girl for LA but this was kinda the development LA wanted from Megumi but LA guess the anime series left the best til last with this movie to show it off. Tomoya as a character more or less is his usual self though he to opens himself up to Megumi even at the risk of his love life with her during the more dramatic moments of the movie at that. It's an interesting and rather unique relationship to say the least as in anime terms Tomoya would've routed Eriri instead but this isn't just any romance anime as the title of the anime series shows.
The animation done by CloverWorks were stellar as they took the stead from A1-Pictures to have the same animation flair as the anime series with ALOT more polish towards every other element. Though the movie is a rather talkative movie, the animation work CloverWorks did to the movie was stellar without a shadow of a doubt.
The voice work was also great with all the returning cast members form the anime. LA will give HUGE props to Kiyono Yasuno as Megumi with her stoic monotoned, tsundere cadence giving off ALOT of subtle hinting to Megumi as a character, along with Ai Kayano as Utaha cos of course and finally Saori Oonishi as Eriri making this voice cat extremely well, expected when the voice cast mingled with one another for two seasons of the anime itself. Nonetheless MVP easily, EASILY goes to Kiyono Yasuno with the movie.
Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata Fine's movie is the finality, the conclusion to the Saenai Heroine anime series and it left in great strides, now is it a masterpiece?, well for LA yes, for romance animes?..well sure it did ALOT of plot curveballs to be "original", which to some elements it did and executed decent to fairly well in LA's eyes. But for all the flaws and "debates" it caused during it's anime series, the movie concluded and wrapped everything quite nicely at that. LA did love the metaness of it all, which is a staple of Saenai Heroine's humor, considering the premise of the anime series itself and everything let alone the movie itself being tongue in cheek sometimes especially towards the end. But LA loved this movie, as it gave new insights to the majority of the characters from the anime series, made HUGE romance strides for the main cast and gave the proper resolutions for the cast needed to make this series go off in the way it did to make LA satisfied through and through.
Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata Flat left itself in a bitter flat note in it's ending but Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata Fine...left off in a fine yet happy resolving note.
Didn't know Utaha played Fate Grand Order though............huh Utaha still is best girl~!
But Megumi won...
Overall: 7.3 / 10 A closure according to this story so that it does not become one of those adaptations that never get a true epilogue, and one way or another "Saekano" has managed to find a correct epilogue. And to be more precise, I consider that it describes quite well both the format and the concept of the plot in general and the outcome of this program, thus being in general terms a regular / acceptable show. Let's see, on the one hand, if I was looking forward to the film because I knew it would give the final touch, but the reality is that theanime proposal coming from the designs, the animation and perhaps the theme regarding the creation of video games, does not leave much more, even from season 1.
The plot takes a very evident position from minute one, which suggests that it points to the "Happy end" of the Prota x Prota pairing and then it already becomes a predictable work in terms of the "Romantic" aspect. As for the same characters, I always had a problem with Katou, that taking this film that looked a little more "human", I always took it as a flat character, and that it did not really add up and for what I consider Utaha and Eriri were the real factor in getting the show moving, so it hurts me that in the end they didn't have a bigger role in this adaptation.
In order to finish an adaptation with a beginning and an end but without surprises or great aspects to highlight in addition to the visual, and if you want to learn some other basic thing about the development of this type of video games.
En español:
General: 7,3 / 10
*This review contains spoilers.* To me, SaeKano has always stuck out from other romantic comedies of its kind due to its parodistical approach to the genre and how it plays with its own tropes that it makes use of. At the same time it doesn't really stray away too much from what romantic comedies are supposed to be and also pays attention to character development. Something that I've always liked in particular was the narrative approach to Megumi's and Tomoya's relationship development as it's reflected within the series in the writing of their visual novel. However, the movie left me a bit underwhelmed considering that it wassupposed to offer a well-rounded conclusion to the series. It felt more like a recap of a 12 episode TV series than anything else. The pacing is rather fast and many events aren't fully developed but rather stacked together loosely which results in many weird tone shifts. A good example is the scene where Tomoya and Megumi agree to go on a date on her birthday. In the next scene, Tomoya rushes to the hospital and cancels the date because Akane has suffered a stroke. Immediately after, the scene switches to Megumi's birthday and Akane never really receives any more focus.
This is consistent throughout the movie. A lot of major events don't receive much focus besides being mentioned to happen which leaves an overall underdeveloped impression. I guess this movie should have rather been a 12 episode TV series as the pacing is clearly too fast and you can easily see that a lot of content from the source material was cut in the adaptation. Storywise the movie brings to the SaeKano series to an end, so I guess in a way it's good to have some sense of conclusion there. Every love triangle is solved and you may be surprised that the girl you were rooting for is not the true heroine.
There is one other thing that I would like to mention but it is something that I don't want to spoiler to someone who has not yet seen the movie. It is something that caught me by surprise because I really did not expect it but it ultimately turned out to be a misleading bait. If you have seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about. I liked it.
All in all, if you've seen the previous two seasons of SaeKano you know what to expect from the movie. There's no new characters or anything, just the same of everything with all storylines tied together to a conclusive end. If you liked the TV show you will like the movie as well. The fast pacing left a bitter taste in my mouth and I enjoyed the movie a bit less than I wished to do but it is what it is.
Spoliers: This show did a fantastic job at highlighting it greatest aspect; romance. The show drove home a wonderful relationship between Megumi and Tomoya and having the viewer wanting those two to take the spotlight but then two horrible characters try to crawl their way into such a wonderful romance anime. Those characters being, the traitors Utaha and Eri. Those two characters enter the scene only to use the MC only in hoping to make themselves famous. I know I am supposed to rate the movie itself but how is the viewer supposed to feel sympathy for the project failing when they LITERALLY LEFT HIM FORTHE BIGGER PROJECT. That is why outside the romance aspect this anime is a hot dump of garbage. The story clashes its beliefs with the viewers but doesn’t convince us why the MC should help the two characters when all they have every done is work on a game in a club and betrayed him. The MC continues to help the traitors through thick in and thin and after everything is said and done that is it. He doesn’t get to have them return to the his company (at least until his company is famous go figure proves my point) all that happens is they help him make the deadline for his game even though they don’t help for nearly the same amount of time Tomoya did and they have the nerve to cry because he found someone better to fall in love with. And for him to crawl back to them every time they need help is so irritating because somehow this one person saves the whole game but they call him average but somehow Utaha is a legendary screenwriter and Eriri a legendary artist (who is also masochist) but they can’t make up the slack for one person. With all that basically the betrayal ruins this show but at least you get to see best girl Megumi carry the whole movie on her back I guess.
