Reviews for Eyedrops
Back to AnimeI know what you're thinking: This is a joke, right? A 4.7 overall score is getting a review that's a 9 out of 10? Yes. This is genuine. I love this mini-series so much. Ok, but first I gotta point out a fundamental flaw that will turn people away: Yes, apart from transformations, it is visual novel animation. I was a bit off-put at first, but then I thought, "You know, maybe they didn't have a great budget, so they had to do with what they got." And then I was fine with it. And it's not even really a transformation sequence, since there aren't anyoutfit changes. Really, it's just "here's what I do, and this is my name" and then when they're all together they shout the name of a specific product as their move to defend the eyeball. So, if you were expecting actual animation, I apologize, but this is what you're going to get.
Alright, so now the characters. When I watched episode 0, I thought it was hilarious that the names of the girls were actual ingredients. I legit chortled over "Vitamin B6". They are, admittedly, fairly one-note, but I love them. I think what won me over is that they actually learn stuff and call back to them from previous episodes. That's actually better than a lot of popular anime out there.
And now, my feelings about all the characters, in the order of the credits at the end of Special Episode 2:
Taurine - Clueless and aloof, but is the one that gets the other characters to talk about the eye's numerous crises. One moment I heard her say "Atashitte hontou baka" and I went, "Hey, that's Sayaka's line... spoken in the exact way that Sayaka would say it... holy crap, is this voice by the same person that voices Sayaka from Madoka Magica?" And then I looked it up, and I was right. I fully gushed. Instantly became a 10/10 character for me.
Neostigmine Methylsulfate - Easily flustered, one of the tsunderes, tries to act as the leader though they're more of a coalition than anything. She's ok as a character, she has my second-favorite outfit out of all of them. I think she gets the most screen time out of all of them.
L-aspartic Acid Potassium - Umm, her 3D model looks a little bit out of proportion. I like that everyone has a matching bandana, but hers being placed around the neck makes the whole outfit less cohesive, and makes me concerned that she's going to choke. Not much to say about her character since she doesn't get a lot of screentime.
Vitamin B6 - I think she eluded in Episode 3 that the minerals get menstrual cycles? Which is weird? She's a pretty weird character overall. She also doesn't get much screentime and I'm pretty glad about that.
Vitamin B12 - Very tsundere, tends to pick fights. I like her outfit, though it's not my favorite out of the bunch. She also gets a lot of screentime, but I don't mind her as much as Neo-sulfate (yes, I'm abbreviating here).
Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride - I think she grows the most out of everyone, she's the first who learns her lesson and utilizes it the most throughout the series. She also enjoyed watching B12 and Neo-sulfate fight. Honestly, you go girl, get that popcorn. I also like her voice the most.
Chlorphenamine Maleate - Ass. Me no likey. Likes to call out the smallest of things. Doesn't really care about the work she's doing. And that's including the moments where other characters go, "Uuuugh, I'm tired of this work." Least favorite character.
Epsilon-aminocaproic Acid - Uhh, pretty weird. She doesn't get very many lines, but the lines she does have are her speaking like the situations they're in are like a fantasy novel. Quite strange.
Chondroitin Sulfate Ester Sodium - One of the mediators. Is calming compared to the rest. Has the best outfit. And I think she has the best transformation. Love her.
Glycyrrhizin Potassium - Very shy. Poor thing. She's also a mediator. I like her. I want to protect her.
Flavin Adenine Denucleotide Sodium (special episode exclusive) - Ohhh, they *want* you to know who she is. She is the true boss, the most powerful out of all of them. And you absolutely *need* to know who she is, every single syllable. Second-best transformation imo.
Medanine (special episode exclusive) - I don't want to spoil him, but what he does is funny as hell. Also, one of the things he does was exactly what I was experiencing while watching this series. Gave me a whole lot of clarity.
Anyway, so why am I giving this a 9? Is it because I'm so hype about this? Will the magic fade over the next couple days? Maybe, but for now, I love this show. I know I've scored other low-rating anime higher than expected, but I think out of all the low-rated ones I've watched so far, I loved this one the most. I actually learned stuff about the eye, an important part of my body, without making me feel any sort of sickness? I got excited for the product names the characters were using as their attacks? And now I actually want to try eyedrops despite me hating the idea of anything going on my eyes? I was fully engaged. I know I'm in the minority of users here, and I'm going to get a bunch of funny reactions under this review. But man, I love this series. Please, if you're one of an open mind, give it a try. I promise it's worth it.
Oh yeah, and Deco*27's here for some reason. That's how I found out about this show. Pretty cool stuff. Can't believe some big names were a part of this.
Ugh, my eye is dry. Better fix that quick. ;)
