Reviews for Tokyo Ghoul: Pinto
Back to Anime*Some spoilers* So here we have an interesting little side story from Shuu Tsukiyama's high school days when he met photographer, Chie Hori. Story: There isn't much to this story but it was interesting to say the least - it revolves around Tsukiyama meeting this "oddball", Chie Hori, who randomly takes a picture of him feasting on a meal one night; Tsukiyama's immediate response to discovering her was to devour her however he is distracted by her camera flashes as she takes some pictures, then all of a sudden Tsukiyama develops some lima syndrome and decides to "befriend" her instead which was an interesting choice. As expected, withTsukiyama's brilliant personality, he is extremely popular with the ladies in high school which brings some jealousy among the men however this idea isn't remotely touched upon as Hori immediately cuts into the scene. This story is mainly about Tsukiyama trying to find the reason why he didn't feast upon Hori that night.
Art:
Not the best, but definitely not the worst. It is acceptable to the point where it just flows and you don't immediately notice any flaws.
Sound:
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant - Tsukiyama's excellent choice of vocabulary, exhilarating french accent and orgasmic screams alone make up entirely for the enjoyment of the show.
Character:
We have a good contrast between Tsukiyama's extremely vivid design and Hori's bland/modest yet still interesting "oddball" - the sighs Tsukiyama makes towards Hori conveys so much of a lighthearted feeling in them.
Enjoyment:
Personally I enjoyed this short OVA quite a bit, not much as much as Tokyo Ghoul: JACK, but still on quite a high level. The voice acting of Tsukiyama is just superb in all ways.
If you're a Tokyo Ghoul fan, you definitely need to watch this.
*THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS* This show isn't as terrible as the first ones. STORY ---------- It's about Shuu Tsukiyama, the weird guy from the original meeting a little girl, Chie Hori, who took his picture while he was eating one of his victims. This girl is an oddball. The only thing that interests her is photography. She's not at all shocked about the fact that Shuu is a ghoul and this surprised him. So they become "friends". He then takes her to a hospital, tells her to sneak in some old man's room at night and take pictures of what she sees inside. Long story short there's anabusive nurse, Shuu comes in and eats a bit of the old man, then threatens to throw Chie out the window, then actually throws her, but finally catches her at the end.
The story isn't anything special really. Same old Tokyo Ghouls, so 3/10
ART
------
Not much to be said here really. the art is ok. Nothing special but still looks good. 6/10
SOUND
----------
The music was pretty ok too. I liked the orchestra music when Shuu was eating the old man. 5/10
Characters
--------------
Shuu is the same old weird guy and Chie is somewhat of a dandere. I found their interactions kinda boring and the characters uninteresting however not annoying and irritating as some of the characters from the original (eg: Kaneki). I did enjoy the sheer insanity and random mood swings of Shuu though. And the nurse was fun as well. 4/10
Enjoyment
---------------
I like this one more than the original so far. The story's the same and the characters aren't great but as I already said they're not as terrible as the original ones. 5/10
CONCLUSION
------------------
Not the worst so far. I'll continue watching it.
This OVA i my opinion did better than the first. It did the better in the aspect of character development a the same time keeping me, the audience, entertained. The main character being Shu Tsukiyama, I enjoyed learning more about a character I liked although at the same time he can be the most creepiest character of the entire anime. It explained well enough to understand the feelings of Tsukiyama the ghoul and how we would interact with Chie Hori the girl who mysteriously appeared in his life. He demonstrated that unlike other ghouls he didnt just feed on humans just for the sake of satisfyinghis hunger but instead to taste the best of meals, proving why he is a gourmet.
It also explains well to his relationship with Chie Hori in the manga Tokyo Ghoul:re.
I thoroughly enjoyed how Tsukiyama would react next in this OVA. The OVA was good overall and I enjoyed it much better than the first.
Tokyo Ghoul: "Pinto" is the second standalone OVA which follows the story of a ghoul and his "pet". Personally, I think the story for this OVA is great! It is most certainly more impressive then √A or even the first season. Unfortunately, the art and character development are nothing special. The interactions between Shuu Tsukiyama and Chie Hori are boring. You don't really feel a connection even though that is clearly what is being pushed, a strange friend-like relationship. The settings shown are really immersive. I have to give credit where credit is due for all of the Tokyo Ghoul series. Very atmospheric. For something thatis a little bit longer then your average episode, I think it was good. Despite development not being the best in some aspects it still gets a decent amount right. The story fit very well with these characters and environments. Pinto is a 7/10 for me, as was Jack.
Tokyo Ghoul: "Pinto" (2015) Again like with the other spinoff 'Jack' we have a side story that is at a level higher than the main show in my opinion. Once again if the show was to meet such a standard it would be soaring much higher. The story with this one is a bit messed up inside of the ghoul world, especially with the hospital story conclusion. Although like most things it is a precursor to not such a happy ending. A good thing to see was more of a backstory to Chie Hori since she is overly cute and was also good to see Ikaruin her role.
The art is a great standard as expected of the styling.
The sound was nicely selected and represented this segment well.
Characters develop in as much of backstory and eccentrics. Chie was cute and great and Ikaru was also interesting and cute in her own way. The permanent shadow over her eyes is sinister yet suited.
A great side story filler here well worth watching.
9/10.
*MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD* This was a fun OVA that I thoroughly enjoyed. While the art and soundtrack wasn't really anything special, the story itself was enjoyable and it was interesting to see Tsukiyama's backstory, as he was one of the most enjoyable characters from the original stories. The characters were interesting, and I was glad to hear that Horie makes appearances in the main series. The nurse was an interesting, if clearly troubled character, and I find it interesting that her death is actually referenced in the main series. All in all, this was an interesting look into the world of Tokyo Ghoul which fits wellinto the main story. If you're a Tokyo Ghoul fan, this is definitely worth watching.
Plot: The little story between Shuu Tsukiyama and Chie Hori turned out to be more captivating than I could have imagined! I confess I loved the development of their relationship! At the same time, the events that took place at the hospital proved so appalling to me that I experienced a drastic disruption in my enjoyment of the anime. Is not that I don't understand the purpose and role of those events, but it was just too much for me 😅! They were not only too graphic, but even the idea itself was horrifying 😖. Characters: I was definitely impressed by Chie Hori! She really surprisedme until the very end. The window moment was epic! It was actually what helped me understand her personality which brought me to a blocking contradiction as I experienced both shock and admiration toward her haha! Additionally, her interactions with Tsukiyama were so intriguing!! At the opposite side were the nurse and her old patient. In my perception, both went from disturbing to disgusting, although I must confess that at one point I actually felt agonizing pity for the old man.
Art: Nothing special in particular, except for the sinister scenes from the hospital. I guess the vivid remembrance I was left with should qualify them for a great art since they definitely had the power to shaken me emotionally.
Sound: I honestly don't remember anything about the sound hahaha. It probably did a fair job since I have no memory of being bothered by it, but this only means it was average in my opinion.
Tokyo Ghoul: "Pinto" was 25 minutes of enjoyment. If it was longer then it would have probably got a higher score. As always, I going to try my best to not give any spoilers. The review will talk about Story, Art, Sound and Music, Character’s, Overall Enjoyment and Overall opinion. Story The Story is nothing special, but it makes sense unlike the story of Tokyo Ghoul Re. it mainly focuses on Tsukiyama, Shuu (a Character that was in Tokyo Ghoul (Season 1), Tokyo Ghoul Root A (Season 2), Tokyo Ghoul Re (Season 3) and Tokyo Ghoul Re second season (Season 4)) school days were we getto meet him as a young Ghoul and some of his friends both human and Ghouls.
So i give the story 6 out 10
Art
The art is lovely. Not much more that I can say about it.
9 out 10
Sound and Music
There is not much music in this anime just the ED which was not that good. The same goings with the sound but unlike the music the sound is good.
The camera click, the ripping of the flesh is sounds lovely.
6 out 10
Character’s
Firstly, Matsumae and Ikaru are friends of Tsukiyama, Shuu. There are not really given any development above that, there are both Ghouls.
The Nurse. She beats an elderly people that is in her care every night, to get her angry out. The Nurse puts on a smile during the day but when behind closed doors she is angry at the world.
Hori, Chie the second main character of the OVA. She is a human. She is a oldball that focuses more on his pictures then her study’s. That catches Tsukiyama, Shuu in the middle of his feast, at first he was going to kill her but then she shows him some pictures that she has took of him and they become friends. At school the people there thinks she is weird and no one talks to her. But in the face of death she sticks to what she loves and talks a pictures instead of crying out for help.
Tsukiyama, Shuu the main character of this OVA. He meets a human and they become friends. He rip’s and tears the flesh of an old men and we as the audience learn how Shuu became who he is. He tests a friend to test her character saves her when she passes.
8 out 10.
Enjoyed
I enjoyed the short plot and events that happened. As well as the characters in this OVA.
7 out 10
So my overall score is 8 out 10.
How is it that these side episode managed to be more interesting to me than anything the main series was trying to sell? The camera girl is instantly compelling as a character, and probably for similar reasons to the creepy gourmet guy you become fascinated with the way she sees the world. It's all just photography and watching things through a lens, which may be a pretty blunt metaphor but it works for this setting. My favorite moment had to be when he was in the process of throwing her out a window to her death and her only reaction was "this would make a coolpicture." Gotta love it. From the first few episodes of season :re that I've seen it looks like she's going to be a recurring character, though confusingly her personality seems to have completely been rewritten.
The gourmet is ever the creepy guy you love to hate and surprisingly fun to watch. 8/10
Pinto is a Tokyo Ghoul OVA about the character known as: 'The Gourmet'. It's about how he met a human girl who he befriended instead of ate. Since the gourmet appears a lot in the first season you can watch this after the first season of Tokyo Ghoul but watching it after the second season makes just as much sense. Honestly with the story being about the gourmet, arguably one of the most messed up characters in Tokyo Ghoul, I didn't have high hopes for the OVA. Yet while the story wasn't amazing, it also wasn't bad and I do think it's nice that you cansee how the gourmet's character naturally evolved from how he acted in the past. The story itself isn't too impressive but the dialogue between the two characters can be amusing.
The characters were acceptable. The gourmet wasn't as crazy as we've seen him in the main anime and he frequently gets shut down by the girl's silly behaviour. I kind of wish she was with him in the main anime because she's able to provide some kind of counterweight.
The animation, voice acting and music are comparable or the same as the main anime.
Overall this can be worth watching if you like tokyo ghoul and would like to know more about the gourmet. The story is a bit disturbing but such is tokyo ghoul.
Tokyo Ghoul OVAs are great! While Jack has a more classic but still engaging story about hunting Ghouls, Pinto uses an already established character who has a "refined taste". Although I don't really need Tsukiyami, I appreciate that they took advantage of the fact that they have an established character and introduced an interesting conflict with a person who is controlled by a similar "obsession", just in a different industry. It was fun to watch both characters and their reactions to each other and it's just a well-crafted side story. By the way, bring some food and take some screenshots from this refined OVA.
