Reviews for Robot Girls Z
Back to AnimeThere is really only one way to describe Robot Girls Z... IT'S SO BAD THAT IT'S ACTUALLY GOOD It's really a comical all girls superhero short with an ecchi twist. The three main characters all fit stereotypical anime roles ranging from happy bubbly yandere to overly eccentric possible tsundere leader to cute likable kuudere (which btw is my favorite) Overall the special is fun to watch, surprisingly entertaining, and really bad, but above all it's so bad that its actually good.
This anime deserves more love. Its pure, comical, dumfounded, and ridiculous fun. This show is probably going over people's heads. The story is simple, 3 robot girls defend the city against evil. The characters are a mixed bag, some are forgettable, some are just really fun to watch, especially the villains. The OP and ED are catchy, as well as the rest of the soundtrack The art is cute. Each character has something distinct about them, whcih makes them really fun to watch. This show is goofy and shouldnt be taken seriously. Anyon calling this a masterpiece is giving it way to much credit. Anyone calling it stupidis giving it way to much crap. This show is worth checking out.
There are 3 episodes, about 30-45 minutes each.
I find art to be an important element in anime. This is just me personally. Now this is an example of an anime where the art does not make up for its cons. Story (3/10): This is the worst part of it all. It is supposed to be about three robot girls going up against four other robot girls that want to kill the Robot Girls Z. Why? Because some person on a screen wants them to die. The lack of reason kills it. Art (9/10): What can I say? The art is beautiful, shiny, refined, and colorful. The animators knew when to put less effort into it. Thecomedic moments. If you don't like the comedy, you can at least appreciate the effort.
Sound (8/10):
Catchy opening and ending, but the soundtracks never stood out or got you in the mood for an upcoming event. The voice acting is ridiculous, but in a good way. They knew to sound goofy and childlike.
Characters (6/10):
Everyone had their own personality, which I like. The downside is that they were too generic. The villains did have more unique personalities, so it made me look forward to most of their appearances.
Enjoyment (5/10):
I did get lost from time to time, but the comedy made me at least smirk now and then. If I knew more about the series they were parodying, maybe I would have a better enjoyment.
Overall (6/10):
It was bearable as it was only 3 episodes. It didn't make a large impact, and I would never recommend it, unless I was joking. That said, it wasn't particularly bad, and I think they put a good effort in. Goes to show, effort isn't always what makes something good.
Recommendation: Very funny short parody of magical girls/giant robots anime. Requires no prior knowledge of the robot series' that the characters are based on to enjoy. Definitely give it a try. Robot Girls Z is only 3 episodes long and there is no story to speak of, so this is going to be a short review. The main 3 robot girls and the 3 villains fight each other and the villains get owned, and then they bring in new one-off villains to fight the robot girls and the new villains also get owned. Rinse, repeat. They come up with new bits andjokes each time to keep the formula feeling fresh though. The Underground Empire's evil plots all have a vaguely Wile E. Coyote quality to them where you know they're doomed to fail from the start, but watching the specific ways their plans unravel always makes for good entertainment.
The main downsides here are laughably bad animation, which is so cartoonish and tongue-in-cheek that it almost feels intentional, and the unnecessary ecchi bits with girls' clothes constantly getting blown off. It added nothing and just felt really uncomfortable given how young some of the girls look. That being said, it's a small part of the series and easy to ignore, and the series overall is funny enough that it's worth tolerating some brainless fanservice for it.
